Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to more beautiful music, this by Thijs Van Leer, a wonderful flute player, accompanied by the orchestra of Rogier Van Otterloo (his arrangements and orchestrations of classical music – very Claus Ogerman-ish). Rogier Van Otterloo was also a terrific film composer who did most of Paul Verhoeven’s early films. He also did fantastic albums with Toots Thielmans and Jan Akkerman, all worth seeking out. I sought them out years ago. I discovered Van Otterloo with the soundtrack of Turkish Delight and then the album with guitarist Jan Akkerman, also lush versions of classical music a la Ogerman. You can find a lot of this stuff on the Tube of You. I do think I own every album Van Otterloo did, some on LP only, most on CD. I did manage to watch a motion picture last night and what a stinker it was – some “horror thriller” thing from 2014 entitled Kristy, about a college student who stays behind at her college during Thanksgiving, after saying goodbye to her boyfriend. The only other student on campus is her roommate, who then decides to leave and spend it with her boyfriend and family, leaving our girl all alone, with a security guard for her dorm. Already, it’s ridiculous, but I’m along for the ride. She goes to a local gas station and 7-11 kind of store. In there, there’s a weird girl wearing a hoodie and a lot of mouth and nose rings. She’s a little nutty, dropping magazines on the floor for no reason. They have a brief interaction that’s a little tense, and then ring girl gets in a car with some others and drives off. Our girl gets in her car and begins driving back to the campus. Of course, the car is waiting for her, the car with ring girl and others and they do some unnerving things, but she speeds off and avoids them, gets back to campus, asks the security guard to keep his eyes open, etc. Then, somehow, ring girl and her three masked friends are on the campus. Somehow, they know exactly where she is, they know where everything is on campus, they divine where she’ll try to run, they’ve somehow disabled the phone system of the entire school, taken over her cell phone. They kill the security guard and one other guy on campus. They then stalk and torment her and tell her she’s going to die. And that’s the movie, one endless stalking interrupted every thirty seconds by a ear-shattering loud noise on the soundtrack, the equivalent of going “BOO” every thirty seconds. If that’s what you have to do to scare your audience, you are lost as a director. It’s just a silly film straight down the line, but with a good performance by the lead girl. The other thing about the ear-shattering “BOO” moments is that after the fifth one, the other sixty become less and less effective. Definitely one to skip.
Otherwise, yesterday was fine in its way. I got over ten hours of sleep, which I needed, got up, answered e-mails, then moseyed on over to the mail place, where I picked up the more important of the two envelopes and a small package containing a small thing. I ordered foof prior to the moseying on over, and I also ordered food as I didn’t think the foof would be that appealing. I came right home, and the food arrived a few minutes later – an Eyetalian sub from Santoro’s, the real deal sub shop. It was excellent and I also had some of their pretty good potato salad. I wrote some commentary, and I’m down to the last three songs now, so that will be done today. Then I watched the stinker, listened to music and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll finish up the commentary, I’ll go to the mail place to hopefully pick up the second important envelope, then I’m seeing a play, and after that I’ll eat, then come home and watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is a ME day, and I will do nothing but ME things. Oh, and I have breaking bombshell news – tomorrow is September. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, tomorrow is September, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that September will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. The rest of the week will be Kritzerland show stuff and a work session with our musical director.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, finish the commentary, hopefully pick up the second important envelope, see a play, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What kind of foof – sorry – food – do you eat more than any other. And what foods do you completely avoid because you cannot stand them? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, on this, the last day of August that leads to the first day of September.
