Well, dear readers, we had us a really fun second Kritzerland rehearsal – everyone’s on their game, John Boswell is a singer’s best friend, and I just get to sit there like so much fish, listening to wonderful voices do happy holiday songs, including two of mine own. This time, Kerry O’Malley was with us, and her three songs are great. We wrapped right on time at six. All I’d had to eat up to that point was some creamy tomato soup, which is all I COULD eat, and it was very soothing and helpful. After rehearsal, I had a proper meal of penne pasta in pink sauce from Maria’s Kitchen. I needed something soft and easy to chew and that did the trick. Then I watched the first thirty minutes of a motion picture called Conclave, about the inner workings of picking a new Pope. So far, with the exception of an absolutely inept score, it’s interesting and I’ll try to finish it this evening. But that’s not the meat of the notes, as it were, nor the fish or chicken of the notes either. No, the meat of the notes is all the stuff prior to all the stuff above. I got almost eight hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, and noticed the gum swelling had gone down a little bit, which was a good thing. At 8:50, I headed over to the dentist’s office and he got me in pretty quickly. He looked at the thing and said it was good that I came in. He took an X-ray of it and noted that thankfully this huge build-up of tartar, which is what caused the issue, wasn’t too high up so that the bone was still okay. He then numbed me up but good, then went to work on the tartar – it took a while to get as much as he could get, and it was a lot. Lots of blood, obviously. While he was working, the temporary crown popped out because it was close to the problem area, so when he was done, he cemented that back in. He gave me a prescription for Amoxicillin and told me if I needed it to get it and if I didn’t to not get it. I then went to the bank and deposited two small checks, then came home. I answered more e-mails, took two Tylenol, then went to Gelson’s and thankfully they finally had my creamy tomato soup, so I got a small thing of that. I was still very numb, but I came home and managed to eat the soup without it dribbling out of my mouth. I also rinsed with salt water, which I hate but which does help. And while I was out, I also got the prescription filled because I thought it wouldn’t hurt to have one pill after the soup, and one later after the pasta. But it made me very drowsy, so I think that will be it for the Amoxicillan. I think it kills bacteria, which is why I thought it would be good to take it. Can’t take any today or tomorrow. There’s still swelling, but I hope by tomorrow it will be gone or almost gone. Then we had our rehearsal and the rest you know because you are observant dear readers. And as soon as I’m done with these here notes, I will do the warm saltwater thing again, because it really does help alleviate the swelling. Alleviate the Swelling – that’s the title of my next novel. Of course, that reminds me of the tale of The Randy Vicar and the Chocolate Mousse. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I had chocolate mousse again, but by did they short me on the whipped cream this time.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll set up the room for the stumble-through, then I’ll shower. At one, we begin our stumble-through and after I’ll give whatever notes I have, and we can run anything that we need to. Then I’ll go to the ATM to get the dough for the singers, then to the mail place, and then I’ll figure out food. After all that, I’ll rest my voice, print out the commentary and get all that ready, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, I’ll be up early and then I’ll mosey on over to the Arboretum for a ten-thirty arrival. Once there. I’ll make sure the set-up is right, and that everything is as it should be. Then the cast arrives, and we do sound check from eleven-thirty to twelve-thirty. Doors open at one and the show is at two. After the show, we’ll convene at some nearby jernt for appetizers and drinks to celebrate the double birthdays of Adrienne Stiefel and Li’l Ol’ Me. After that, a handful of us will mosey on over to a restaurant for a proper birthday dinner. Then I’ll come home and pray that my lucky 7s birthday brings much good luck for the rest of the year and the New Year. Then Monday is a ME day, Tuesday is a belated birthday dinner with the Pearls, Wednesday I get my permanent upper crown, after which I take my car to the fix-it place. I’m going to tell them I really need my car back in three weeks – one does hear horror stories about taking months, and that I cannot have, I’m afraid. If I’m not comfortable there, I’ll find my own body shop.
Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s dance the Hora or the Old-Fashioned Waltz, for today is the birthday of our beloved dear reader Jane, who I’ve known since she was fourteen. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our beloved dear reader Jane, who I’ve known since she was fourteen. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR BELOVED DEAR READER JANE, WHO I’VE KNOWN SINCE SHE WAS FOURTEEN!!!
