NICE COMMENTS ARE NICE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, still a bit knackered from the show and a little less sleep from a slightly rough night, but still glowing from the glow of a glowingly good show. Was trying to watch a BBC show from 1961, I think, entitled Maigret, an English take on the French detective created by Georges Simenon starring Rupert Davies. Simenon thought Davies was the perfect embodiment of Maigret. It’s a cheaply done series, but seems like it’s going to be interesting and all the episodes are adapted from the Maigret novels and stories. I got through half of episode one (each episode runs about fifty minutes) but, of course, dozed off and stayed dozed for an hour, until the end of episode two. I’ll go back and watch those. After tomorrow at three, I’ll be without a motor car for a period of time, hopefully not too long, so I’ll have time to really catch up on my viewing. I took a free seven-day trial for a channel called MHZ, which has a lot of mystery series, like The Bridge and The Killing, along with other foreign series and movies that look interesting. I don’t think I even knew there was a series four for The Bridge, so I’ll definitely watch that, and I’ve saved a few movies to view, too. The channel also has the complete Maigret series from France with Bruno Cremer, which, for me, is THE series thanks to Bruno Cremer, excellent production values, and a terrific score. I had all the DVDs at one point, but I think I got rid of them, so I’ll watch a few of them again. I don’t really know how much sleep I got – maybe five or six hours as I managed to get to bed by one. Once up, I did the usual things like answer e-mails. I heard that there were wonderful comments about our show on Sunday and that was nice. I wanted something fast and easy for food, so I got the small Marco’s pepperoni pizza – it arrived quickly, and I ate it all up and that was pretty much it for food. I moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up a couple of envelopes and a couple of screeners, one of which I’d seen already and the other of which I have zero interest in. I came right home, did some stuff on the computer and began what will be a long process of organizing things and getting some boxes out to the garage. Of course, I’m still praying for a modern major miracle or five. After all that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish and began my failed attempts to watch something, but glad I found a streaming channel with a seven-day free trial that has stuff I’m interested in. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up by eight and out the door by eight-thirty, for she of the Evil Eye will be here. I think I might mosey on over to an Apple Store and just check out the new iMac M4 all-in-one computer, but also the Mac Mini to see what that’s about. Then I’ll come back home and do whatever needs doing, then the Pearls will come here and pick me up for the belated birthday dinner, which I’m looking forward to, since I already know where it’s taking place. After that, they’ll take me home and I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is a big day – first, the dentist for the permanent crown to be glued in and finally I’ll be able to chew on both sides of my mouth after six years of one-sided chewing. One-Sided Chewing – that’s the title of my next novel. Then I take my car to the body shop and if I like the vibe there and they have a reasonable ETA as to when it will be ready, rather than some amorphous hoped-for time, then I’ll Uber home. I do have to empty out everything from the car, so I’ll have to do that today. I have clothes for the dry cleaners in the trunk, so that’s one errand I can do in the morning hours while I’m out and about. Then the rest of the week I’m just kind of stuck here – haven’t quite figured out the mail situation and how I’ll retrieve stuff, but we’ll see.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight and out the door by eight-thirty, I’ll go have something small somewhere – maybe just a bagel or an English muffin – must save the calories for dinner – then perhaps the dry cleaners, the Apple Store, and home, James, then doing whatever needs doing, then the belated birthday dinner, then home, James, and watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Who are your favorite fictional detectives? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have gotten some nice comments on our show, because let’s face it – nice comments are nice.
