MUSE MARGARET CALLS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, say a little prayer for the parts of the city that are on fire, which now includes Runyon Canyon in Hollywood, and that this windy wind thing calms down. Thankfully, and knock wood, on THIS street there hasn’t been anything horrible that I’ve seen, just some debris and branches and stuff. Of course, I never left the house yesterday. It’s scary out there. But let’s get to the best news I had yesterday. Muse Margaret called and boy did she love what she read. Not a single nitpick. She said she was laughing so hard that her husband said, “Is it that funny?” She quoted a lot of bits that were her favorites, so I was quite over the moon about it. I always worry, especially when I have to revise something as much as I revised that one sequence with the timeline issue, but that was one of her favorite things. That just perked up everything. Now, if we could just have a modern major miracle or three, that would be the loveliest icing on the cake. Other than that, I got seven hours of sleep, got up at eleven or thereabouts, answered quite a few e-mails, then futzed and finessed, which took a bit of time. Then I wrote a few new pages, had a bagel, lox, and cream cheese, not necessarily in that order, had some telephonic calls, saw a few ideas from a set designer who finally contacted us – not quite right, but I think I’ll meet with him, and we can talk so he understands what I like and how I want the band onstage. I’m hoping it can work out. I wrote a few more pages, then got stuck in research mode again – you’ll understand completely when you know what the book is – figured that stuff out and wrote more. I took a break, intending to watch something, but even as I was scrolling through stuff I dozed off for an hour. I had a burger and a few fries later in the afternoon, wrote a few more pages and revised a couple of things I’d written earlier, and really, that was pretty much it. I had a nice e-mail from Liz Callaway, just making sure I was safe and sound – very sweet of her. And we had quite a nice posting volley here at haineshisway.com yesterday. At the time of writing these here notes, we’re on page fourteen. Thus far, I’ve written thirteen pages so far, maybe even one more depending on if you count what I revised, and I think after these here notes are posted, I’ll try for another two or three. I’m about to end a chapter, so I’ll definitely do that and then begin the next chapter. Then the next sequence should be fun to do, I think, at least I hope it will be. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll futz and finesse, I’ll write new pages, I’ll check with the mail place and see what’s what and most likely drive over there and get whatever’s there, I’ll eat something at some point, I’ll write more pages, I’ll take a few breaks so my back doesn’t revolt on me – we don’t need no revolting backs, let me tell you – it’s bad enough we have a revolting front, let me tell you and I have told you – and then at some point, I do believe I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is Friday, in case anyone was wondering, and it’ll be mostly another writing day in which I write, and Saturday and Sunday is more of the same. Then next week we’ll have another casting session and we’re putting the show on the breakdown service for the lead girl. I’m hoping we get a lot of responses – the show will not work if we don’t have the right girl and guy – the guy I do think we have.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven at the latest, futz and finesse, write new pages, check with the mail place and probably drive over there, eat, write more pages, take a few breaks, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Have you ever been in a situation like we’re in right now here in Los Angeles – near fires, having to evacuate, been near a hurricane or tornado – what were the scariest experiences of that nature you’ve had. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, so happy to have had the Muse Margaret call.
