THE FRANK LOESSER NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what if Frank Loesser had written these here notes? And it might go something like this.

I dreamed last night I was doing the Lambada,

For all my work was completed – time for fun!

Then someone said: “Hey! You can’t do the Lambada!”

There was one more thing that needed to be done…

And I said to myself sit down,

Sit down, you’re writing some notes!

Said to myself sit down,

Sit down, you’re writing some notes!

You can write about films and music,

And your boring day, yeah, that gets our votes!

Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down,

Sit down, you’re writing some notes!

Or

When BK’s the Guy,

And the notes are his I,

You can bet you dear readers will get your fill.

He recounts his day, as if anyone cared,

And yet, no one is spared,

His day and his thoughts and all of that merde.

When BK’s the host

Well, then you’d better post

Or BK will admonish you, me oh my.

Is it hell, is it heaven,

If we don’t make it past page seven,

Well, BK’s only doing it for his I, his I, his I,

BK’s only doing it for his I.

That Frank Loesser could sure turn a phrase. I turned some damn phrases yesterday, too. I got six and a half hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, and then futzed and finessed quite a bit, then sent Muse Margaret the latest batch of pages, all 109 of ‘em. Then I managed to write one new page, then it was time to leave. I went to the theater to meet with a young set designer, she seemed really on top of it and her ideas meshed with mine perfectly, even though I didn’t tell her anything. So, we hired her. She came recommended by Tesshi. That was a big load off, and I also found out we have our lighting designer, the guy who did 70, Girls, 70 and I like him very much, so all we need now is a sound person and stage manager.

After that, I went to the mail place and picked up a small package, then stopped at Popeye’s for two count them two mild breasts and two mild biscuits. I came home and ate those, then went back to writing. It took me a while to get going due to some telephonic conversations and dozing off for an hour, but over the course of the evening I got another nine pages done, and as soon as I post these here notes, I’ll definitely write five more. Muse Margaret called in the early evening, and she had no notes and really enjoyed what she read, so that was lovely.

Today, I’ll try to be up by ten or thereabouts, I’ll futz and finesse, write new pages and try to get as many done as possible, since I have a meeting at five and then a long casting session that goes to eleven. Then I’ll come home and write some notes and however many more pages I can.

Tomorrow is all writing and I suppose there is the possibility that I could finish the book before I go to an opening night. If not, it will definitely be Saturday and I’ll send those pages to Muse Margaret. I have a birthday party to attend on Saturday afternoon, and if I’ve finished, I may try for a celebratory meal or that might happen on Sunday. Then next week is very busy, as we have final callbacks and I start the prep work for Drat! The Cat!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be up by ten or thereabouts, futz and finesse, write new pages, have a meeting, eat, have a casting session, come home, write more pages, and sleep. Today’s topic of discussion: What other songwriters would you like to write these here notes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that Frank Loesser did such a nice job with the notes.
