OPENING NIGHT IS HERE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am coming to you live from the home environment with all the news that’s fit to print and all the print that’s fit to news, not necessarily in order, and in real time, which is better than fake time. I hate fake time. Last night, we had our second preview, and it mostly ran very smoothly – an hour and forty-five minutes. No major tech issues, which was good. We had half a house and I think they enjoyed the show – I know the first few rows did and rather vociferously. There were a few band flubs, nothing major. I made a change to the brief entr’acte (we’d cut it down because it was so weird – I felt it should sound like an entr’acte especially at the top, so we added the first two lines of She Touched Me musically and boy did that perk everything up. After the show, I gave very few notes. I stopped at 7-11 and got some snacks, since I didn’t want to eat anything too substantial this late. Whilst I am writing these here notes I’m listening to the first CD in over a week – a Beethoven piano concerto with Ormandy and Serkin – you know I’m not a big Beethoven fan, but this recording is so beautifully done, I’m enjoying it in spite of myself. I’m a bit overtired due to six hours of sleep and a morning allergy attack. I tried to fall back asleep, to no avail. I finally just got up and answered e-mails aplenty. Then our very own Donald Feltham dropped by – he’s in a new relationship and wanted to give his new boyfriend a unique present. As it turns out, his boyfriend is a huge fan of The Faculty, so I gave Donald a copy of our original script and I signed it for him. Then I tried a new sandwich jernt in the City of Studio called Uncle Paulie’s. Everything sounded good, so I ordered a prosciutto and cheese sub. Then I read the Yelp reviews – I didn’t realize Uncle Paulie’s is a chain. There some excellent reviews but a few too many really bad reviews, including several that said the food smelled rancid. This worried me. The sandwich arrived thirty minutes later and I must say it did smell odd. I ate the whole thing – it was very ordinary and VERY dry – supposed to be oil and vinegar but I couldn’t taste anything like that. A disappointment. After that, I finished writing all my opening night notes save for three, which I’ll do this morning when I get up. As I mentioned, I ran out of my note cards – only had five – snd the new ones were getting here today. But happily they arrived two days ago. I shaved, the sat on the couch like so much fish, closed my eyes, and woke up thirty minutes later. I showered, and then moseyed on over to the theater. At six , we cleaned up a few things and then we did the show and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll eat something VERY light to tide me over till the after-party, I’ll mostly just relax, then I’ll shave and shower and at six I’ll head over to the theater to hand out the opening night cards. And then we open to a sold-out house. I’m also told Sunday is sold out. I’m hoping that Saturday will also be a nice house. After the show, there’s an after-party with lots of foodstuffs, so that will be fun. I never stay too long at those things.

Tomorrow, I’ll just relax and enjoy the day, then see the show. Sunday is the matinee, and I’ll be there for that and the talkback. Monday, I have an early morning appointment with the eye doctor at Cedars and I’m hoping he’ll do the referral for the surgery so we can get that scheduled and I can look like a human again.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat something light, relax, shave and shower, give out the opening night cards, and unveil our Cat, then attend the after-party. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, continuing through the Ormandy box. Blu-ray, nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, ready to have our opening night.
