Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, wondering how this can be the final day of March. March flew by, like a gazelle eating a gluten free pizza whilst sipping a gluten free orange soda pop before eating a gluten free plate of gluten. That darn gazelle. And tomorrow is April, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that April will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. I must remember that tomorrow is also April Fool’s Day so I must stay off the Internet as much as possible. I just don’t care to see April Fool’s nonsense like Liza Minnelli set to play Annie in Greenland or BK set to play Liza Minnelli in a new musical about fish. We want none of that. We want the hard facts – not the soft facts, mind you – no, we want the damn hard facts. Speaking of hard facts, now playing Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and the Bruch violin concerto with Ormandy and Mr. Isaac Stern. Does anyone know if Issac WAS stern? Just asking. But enough preamble. Yesterday, we played our second matinee, completely sold out, not an empty seat anywhere – in fact, I had to stand in the back and watch the show. Well, it was a GREAT audience and the show itself was the best it’s been – everyone was sharp, no one cut off laughs, and everyone picked up cues. And when that happens then the laughs are consistent and true laughs rather than chuckles. Wasn’t there a candy named Chuckles. Hold on. Why yes, my memory was correct, and I remember really liking Chuckles, but I had no idea that they still made them, so I’ll have to buy some. Here is an actual photograph in living color of Chuckles.
Did anyone else eat these and, if so, did you like them? And if they had Chuckles, why wasn’t there a candy called Guffaws? These are the questions that keep me up late at night as they roam around the windmills of my mind. Anyway, the only issue we had in the show was our leading lady’s mic going out just before her big solo – very annoying. Apparently, one of the batteries became dislodged – how is another question that shall remain The Unanswered Question. Of course, there should be a plan if such things happen and I have suggested we keep an emergency replacement mic and if either of the two leads’ mics go out, a text can be sent backstage and I think she would have had time to get a new mic on whilst making a costume change. Still, Sydney was a total pro, projected, got cheers on the song, and on we went. After the song, she really only has a handful of lines.
After the performance, quite a few people stayed for the talkback, and it was a lot of fun. I did some talking back, as did others. All the comments were wonderful, and they all promised to tell their friends. Will and Patsy McKenzie were with us – he saw Drat! The Cat! on Broadway but remembered nothing about it. And everyone was very complimentary about the staging, which always pleases me. After that, a few of us went to a jernt I’d never been to, called The Front Porch or something, located in the Beverly Garland Hotel, where I used to do the Hollywood Show signings before that became an over-the-top thing – in other words, when it was really fun. The first off-putting things when we arrived at five o’clock was that the only place we could sit was outside at a table for six – there were zero people actually in the restaurant. The next thing we found out is that we wouldn’t have a server until five-thirty, when they serve dinner. I will never understand restaurants that do that, but that’s just me, I suppose. So, we sat and chatter and finally we got to see menus. Well, it was one of those jernts where every item on the menu had something in it that I either didn’t care for or hadn’t ever heard of. I ended up ordering a pepperoni and sausage flatbread pizza thing, but sans yellow peppers and basil. Well, it arrived with yellow peppers and basil, so they remade it for me. But it really wasn’t very good.
Then I came home, caught up on e-mails, and then sat on my couch like so much fish and watched one irritating video. I know I dozed off for a bit, too. Then I made a cube steak so I could get the pizza taste out of my mouth, the only problem being that I now have the taste of the cube steak in my mouth, my tummy is feeling odd, I had to take another Claritin-D and just feel plain weird. I’m hoping a good night’s sleep will put things right or, at the very least, put things left.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll mosey on over to the mail place when I’m coherent and hopefully pick up two important envelopes, then I’ll come back home, maybe have some lox and bagels for food, but mostly I need to relax. I’ll also try to book the Kritzerland show dates. Other than that, I just want to feel good and have food taste good. I do have some telephonic calls to make and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is a new month and she of the Evil Eye can’t come, so I’ll do some laundry myself – she’ll be back next week – otherwise, if the important envelopes have arrived, I’ll do my banking, but mostly I must have a couple of ME days, and then I have to decide whether to start the new book or wait until summer or maybe just not do it. I’m really on the fence about it anyway. We shall see. Then we’re back on Friday for another weekend of performances.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, hopefully pick up two important envelopes, eat, try and book the next two Kritzerland show dates, make telephonic calls, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What candy and cookies that they no longer make do you wish would make a comeback? I’ll start – cookies, Flaky Flix and Cherry Fig Newtons. Candy, chocolate babies. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a sold out matinee, a great audience, and a fun talkback.
