Well, dear readers, I am sitting here listening to Mr. Ormandy do Mr. Berlioz’s symphony, Harold in Italy. It’s quite a lovely and robust work. This is a wonderful performance in great sound. It is quite late, so I’d best make these here notes short and sweet – perhaps I’ll call them Notes in Italy, given that yesterday my main food was a chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK. Speaking of yesterday, and who wasn’t, I did manage to get eight and a half hours of sleep, so that was lovely. Well, Harold has left Italy and I’m now deep in Russia with a certain Mr. Shostakovich and his tenth symphony and another winning performance by Mr. Ormandy. In fact, a great performance that most of the Ormandy naysayers refuse to even acknowledge. Their loss. I have a really large number of Shostakovich tenths – they’re all pretty good in their own way, but for me, none top the Ormandy and his Philadelphians. There, I said it and I’m glad and I don’t care who knows it. Where was I? Oh yes, yesterday. I answered many e-mails, had my chopped Eyetalian salad, caught up on stuff, showered, and then moseyed on over to the theater at six. We had over sixty reservations on the books – but we had twenty no-shows – that’s just ridiculous and more than a little irritating. Of course, it was the first night of Passover, so it’s possible that they were all Jewish and forgot that they had to go to a seder. It was a good performance and our leading man, who is still on the tail end of his cold, soldiered through the show. I made the decision that he should not kiss our leading lady – cannot afford to have her sick and thankfully she’s been doing her Sambucol and so if we keep in a positive frame of mind, she’ll be fine. There are four kisses and we just found different things to do. And that all worked fine and since I don’t think he’ll be completely well by today’s matinee, we’ll do that same stuff for the matinee, then we should be fine for next weekend’s shows. After the show, a few of us went out for food – I had some sweet potato fries and then a small piece of coconut cream pie – all very good at the Coral Café. Then I came home and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty at the latest, but probably ten, I’ll shave and shower, mosey on over to the mail place to see what’s what, and then go to the theater for the matinee. I think I know quite a few folks coming to the show. Perhaps some of us will go out for food after the show. Then I’ll come home and watch, listen, and relax.
This week will be a lot of catching up, hopefully another modern major miracle, we’ll ship out Vegas Can Be Murder, some meetings and meals, and then come Friday we’re back for week five of performances.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten or ten-thirty, shave and shower, mosey on over to the mail place then to the theater for our matinee, maybe go for a bite to eat afterwards, then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishing all our Jewish dear readers a lovely Passover and happy we had a good performance but not so happy that twenty people did not show up.
