REVIEWING THE SITUATION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I thought I was done with the Ormandy box, but then I realized I skipped the Verdi Requiem album because I wasn’t in the mood for something that long. So, I have rectified that situation after reviewing the situation, oh, yes, I have rectified that situation after reviewing the situation. It is now playing and while I have three for four versions of the Verdi Requiem, Mr. Ormandy’s is my favorite. So, now that the situation has been rectified, perhaps I can get on with the notes. I did watch seventy minutes of a motion picture last night, but I could not endure another forty minutes of its 110-minute running time. It was entitled Rated X, a Showtime original starring Charlie Sheen and brother Emilio Estevez, who also directed. They play the Mitchell Brothers of hardcore adult fame, which began back in San Francisco. They hit paydirt with Behind the Green Door. I was interested to see it, because that’s what we’re spoofing in The First Nudie Musical. But with a cliched and awful screenplay, horrible direction from Mr. Estevez, and all shot in Canada so that you never even get the flavor of San Francisco of that era. It’s everything you’d expect – they make tons of money, the mob gets involved, the FBI gets involved, then we get all the drugs, endless drugs, the brothers Mitchell aren’t in the least bit interesting – in fact, they’re vile, so you don’t care about a single thing. Characters are introduced and then dispensed with instantly. The scenes of them filming their movies are ludicrous. Highly not recommended by the likes of me, a real stinkeroo. Prior to that awfulness, I did get almost eight hours of sleep, got up, answered a lot of e-mails, got one that was a bit alarming from our leading lady – she’s got a cold now and has had it since Monday. She’s been taking her Sambucol and she thinks she’ll be able to get through the weekend shows and I’m praying she will be. I told her to rest and to get a Z pack if she felt she needed it. It’s really important she’s strong for the sold-out Sunday closing performance as some very important folks are coming, including an agent who’s coming to see her. When our leading man had his cold two weeks ago, he was able to get through the three shows and was strongest by the third, so I’m hoping that’s what will happen with our leading lady. As mentioned, I got the word that Sunday is completely sold out and eighty percent of that is full price. Now if we can just fill up tonight and tomorrow night, that would be wondrous.

I got fresh bagels from Western bagel and had two tuna sandwiches for food – very good. That was around noon. In the early evening, I had one more bagel, with cream cheese. I don’t think I had a single telephonic call, I heard from more parents of young folks for the Kritzerland show, otherwise it was a pretty uneventful day.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll have a couple of the leftover bagels to tide me over until after the show, but mostly I’ll relax until it’s time to shave and shower and mosey on over to the theater around six. Then I’ll see at least the beginning of the show, just to send good energy to our leading lady, but chances are I’ll stay to the end and then maybe go out for a small salad and soup, then I’ll come home.

Tomorrow is more of the same, and then Sunday we play our last show. There’s a cast party at six-thirty at a restaurant in Burbank – I’ll go to that for a while, then may split off and go have a nice dinner somewhere. I’m sure going to miss this show. Next week is finishing choosing the young people and the additional person for the July show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, have a couple of bagels to tide me over until after the show, I’ll relax, shave, shower, and then mosey on over to the theater around six, see at least the beginning of the show but probably tne whole thing, and then maybe go out for some soup or an appetizer or something. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, the Verdi Requiem. Streaming – who knows? Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst hit the road to dreamland, happy to have rectified and reviewed the situation.
