Well, dear readers, last night’s show, while not quite as joyful and fun as Friday night, was still excellent and once again Sydney DeMaria came through with her usual exemplary performance, powering through what’s left of her cold. I didn’t hang around after, just came home and ordered some dessert as a sweet treat. And now, as I write these here notes I am listening like so much fish to volume one of a four volume set of Franz Waxman film music. I can’t really remember, but I think these may have originally been released on Varese Sarabande. Let me check. Yes, it was. So, I’m sure I have all four of those somewhere in the garage, but these are newly out and remastered. They’re excellently done, conducted by Richard Mills. This volume is themed WWII and Westerns. Ah, when film music was film music. Prior to all this, I got a great ten hours of sleep, arising at one in the afternoon. I ordered food from Taco Bell – nachos, two for the price of one, but I could barely finish the one and the two went into the trash. After that, I relaxed, did a few things on the computer, showered, and then moseyed on over to the theater at six. Not much else to report. I did hire Richard Allen to create the tracks for the music portion of the play I’ll be directing – nobody does that stuff better – answered lots of e-mails, watched a few irritating YouTube videos, although I’m truly getting tired of them, but will regale you with a few fun stories about them. That was pretty much it and it was pretty much that, not necessarily in that order.
Today, I’ll be up by ten and I’ll mosey on over to the theater around noon o’clock. At one, we’ll do the cast warm-up, and then I’ll give a little closing performance thank you speech to the company and we’ll take a company photograph. Then we’ll do our last performance of a show I will really miss, along with a cast I will really miss. The show is completely sold out with a waiting list, so I’ll be standing in the back, watching. I know a lot of folks coming to the show and a few I haven’t seen in decades, so that will really be fun. After the show, the set will be struck – I’ll stick around but won’t partake, then we have our cast partay at six-thirty. The venue changed, which is a good thing. I’ll eat something at that time, then say my goodbyes. Happily, about six members of the cast have joined the Group Rep, so I’ll be seeing them regularly and hopefully those folks will audition for the play when we hold those auditions.
Tomorrow, I finish casting the young people show, and choosing songs for both it and the July show. I want to get all that done early. I’m waiting to hear from a pianist about the young people show before I set one for the July show. I’ll have some meetings and meals, and hopefully get a lot of work done. I’m also pondering when I’ll start writing book two this year. Oh, and we’ll get Vegas Can Be Murder shipped out, too. One other thing I’m thinking about doing is writing additional chapters for Directed by as I do new shows. I’ll post those as free downloads and eventually do a second updated edition of the book. But I must decide on book two and make sure I still think it’s the right thing to do.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten, shave and shower, mosey on over to the theater around noon, give a little thank you speech and take a company photograph, do our last show, and then attend the cast partay. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, and then attend our Drat! closing show.
