NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’ve had my few days of rest and now it’s time to get my nose back to the grindstone. The problem is I don’t happen to have a grindstone nearby, and even if I did, if I put my nose to it wouldn’t I have less nose, or perhaps a sharper nose? A Sharper Nose – that’s the title of my next novel, a tale of olfactory intrigue amongst the nouveau riche. What the HELL am I talking about? In any case, my nose will be back to the grindstone and I shall be doing many things this week. I really did enjoy the few days off. I got rest, I got relaxation, I got rhythm, I got my man, who could ask for anything more? I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. Yesterday, I spent a very relaxing Sunday. I did the long jog and actually did five miles instead of four, just because I was feeling my oats. My oats, however, didn’t feel like being felt and the oats slapped my face. I had two count them two tuna sandwiches – hadn’t had that in a long time and they were both yummilicous. I wrote two-thirds of the liner notes for the new Kritzerland release, and I should be able to wrap those up by the end of today. I may announce the title here, perhaps tomorrow, as I’m planning on announcing it officially on Thursday or Friday. I did a few other things and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a couple of episodes from season two of Disney’s Zorro TV program. It was one of my favorites as a kid, and I don’t think I’ve seen an episode since they were originally aired. Back then, I never missed the show, and watching these two episodes tells me why – it’s a wonderful program, and Guy Williams will always be, for me, the definitive Zorro – so dashing and good-looking and charming. The supporting cast is excellent, and I just loved seeing it again. What I did not love was the fact that the DVD I was watching had the episodes colorized. Awful. I understand that Disney is issuing the original black-and-white versions later this year – I’ll be getting those for sure. I then watched Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone. I’d only seen it once before – I thought it was okay then and I think it’s okay now. I like the cast very much, and like all Chris Columbus films, it feels like a Xerox Spielberg movie. But it’s enjoyable and although it occasionally drags, it’s entertaining and fun. I have the Blu-Ray set of the first five films – I’ve never seen any of the subsequent films, so I’m very interested to see how the series progresses, film-wise. I began the second movie and it, too, seems like second-tier Spielberg, which isn’t a bad thing, although this one feels, at least in its first thirty minutes, a little too frantic. The Blu-Ray on the first movie is fine.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m quite certain the workers will be back to awaken me at seven, and I need my beauty sleep.

Today, I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to do, and I have to finish writing the liner notes so I can get those to the Kritzerland designer. Then I have to have a telephonic conversation about a potential production of Nudie Musical – I got a query from a theater and we’re going to talk about how it would work – whether it would be a full production, a workshop, or a staged reading. The fellow from the theater is very keen on doing it, and it would probably be a good way to shake down the show, presuming I’d direct it, and presuming I could get a cast I’d be happy with. I know there’s something else I have to do, but I don’t remember what it is – I’m sure it will come to me at some point.

The rest of the week there are meetings and meals, plus I’m taping a radio show with Donald – we’ll be highlighting House Of Flowers and Show Girl, and talking about all manner of interesting things, so don’t forget to tune in come Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must do errands and whatnot, I must have several telephonic conversations, and I must eat something light but amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite card games. What was the first card game you ever played? What games would you like to learn? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I get Ye Olde Nose back to Ye Olde Grindstone.
