THE FORGETTING OF THE GREEN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, somehow I forgot to mention that yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day. Therefore, I wore no green (I should have worn green, I wore green the last time – oh, a Follies reference), I ate no corned beef and cabbage nor boiled potatoes, I had no Irish beer and I did not speak in my authentic Yiddish Irish Brogue. However, I did eat a pickle and that was green, so it wasn’t entirely a bust, St. Patrick’s Day-wise. Otherwise, I had a busy day but got a lot of stuff done. I did not hear from my dealer about how helpful or unhelpful he’ll be, so I guess I’ll have to nudge him today. Keep sending those excellent vibes and xylophones and make ’em strong, baby – we need ’em, believe you me. It’s not going to be pretty around here if he doesn’t come through with more than the usual weekly payment. I had a good night’s sleep but with some of the weirdest dreams I’ve ever had, just completely bizarre. I got up, answered e-mails, then paid the last large bill I’m going to be able to pay without the dealer doing the right thing. Then I grabbed a sandwich and no fries or onion rings, after which I picked up no packages or mail, after which I came home. I made a couple of telephonic calls and then decided to buckle down winsocki and do an edit road map for an upcoming project. Once I figured out how the cues were slated, getting them in film order was a piece of cake, but I still watched the film and made sure all the pieces fit, which, thankfully, they did. We have every piece of music used save for one solo piano piece played by a character in the film. I’m going to hunt for it on one of two tapes we didn’t transfer, but if it’s not there, we’ll either live without it (it’s only about forty-five seconds long) or I’ll see about grabbing it from the laser disc release of the film. It was fun to see the movie again – I hadn’t watched it in a while and I must say it remains a favorite of mine, and I adore the music. I gave each cue a title (there is no paperwork on this film). All that was exhausting and took over four hours, but it’s done and I am now officially five CDs ahead in terms of having them prepared for the mastering guy. My plan next week is to write all the liner notes for these releases and that will make things a lot easier over the next two months. After that, The Singer arrived and we drove over to the rehearsal studio for our rehearsal. We set up and began the show. It’s running just under an hour now, which seems fine to all of us. It ran very smoothly with no hiccups. I had a lot of small notes, so after the run, we went over them, and then we spent about forty minutes running specific beats and moments for both patter and songs. We spent a while on the one number that hasn’t been working for me, and she really seemed to get it after that work-through and I think it will now be a highlight. I’ll post the complete set list tomorrow, as it might interest some of you dear readers.

Then I stopped at Gelson’s and got some toy food to snack on – a small amount of righteous red potato salad (the best tasting batch in ages), an even smaller amount of Chinese chicken salad, and some cucumber roll. I ate all of it up, had some CRANBERRIES, and that was that. I listened to the horror score I’d worked on earlier in its entirety in film order and it plays splendidly. We’re missing about twenty-three seconds of the final cue, but that may have been pilot error on the part of the tape transfer guy when he was burning the CDRs. Either way, I have that twenty-three seconds covered so we’ll have it for sure.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep whilst dreaming of things Irish and a fair colleen with reddish hair.

Today, the tape transfer guy is stopping by to get those two reels of tape to see if we can find the solo piano piece. I also found something I don’t think anyone is even aware of – a two-sided promo the size of a 45 (but at 33 1/3) with two themes from the horror film, issued for theater lobbies at the time of the film’s release. Someone gave it to me many years ago and it’s in perfect condition so I think we’ll include it on our CD release, just for fun. After that, I will hopefully hear from the dealer and hopefully the news will be good. Then I have some errands and whatnot to do, some packages and an important envelope to hopefully pick up, and then we have our one and only dress rehearsal at Screenland Studios in Burbank. Again, if any of you dear readers and lurkers who are in the vicinity would like to stop by, the more the merrier – just drop me a line.

Tomorrow is show time. I have stuff to do during the day, and then we have a sound check in the late afternoon. Then I’ll go back to the club at seven to sup. I will, of course, have a full report. Sunday is a ME day and I hope to keep it that way. The only thing I have to do is prep the e-mail blast for our new release, which I think we’ll put up at midnight on Sunday – we will, of course, be announcing it right here at midnight tonight.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to do a jog, do errands and whatnot, hopefully have good news from the dealer, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, and then have a dress rehearsal. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, various and sundried Kritzerland projects, as well as a whole slew of other labels’ soundtrack CDs. Blu and Ray, the restored version of Fistful of Dollars from Italy, El Cid, and The Fall Of The Roman Empire. Those ought to keep me busy for many hours. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to Irish dreamland.
