FEH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, all I have to say is feh (hef, spelled backwards – Hef, of course, being a close personal friend of mine). Feh, I say, and feh I say again. Why do I say feh? Well, I’ll tell you why I say feh because why should I keep such vital information from dear readers like yourself? I say feh because apparently we are already in the dog days of summer on our discussion board. Yesterday we achieved what I believe is the lowest posting number since moving to the new board. I think one of the culprits is Facebook. Where once some dear readers spent most of their free time conversing with the wonderful folks here at haineshisway.com, now they are on Facebook all the time. Now, I enjoy Facebook occasionally, but I actually don’t visit much, other than to post updates on projects and occasionally to respond to a post. But I believe Facebook has caused this sort of thing to happen on many discussion boards such as ours. People treat Facebook as their OWN discussion board and I guess ones like ours feel antiquated and don’t put posts out there for thousands upon thousands of people to read. I do think people sometimes forget that we get close to ten million hits a year here at haineshisway.com and that’s some potent hits, baby. Ten Million Hits – that’s the title of my next novel, a story of Mr. Wilton H. Fremk, who went around the world hitting people for no reason whatsoever, eventually tallying over ten million hits. What the HELL am I talking about? Where was I? Oh, yes, feh. I believe if I have to use the word feh after this day I will seriously think about closing down the discussion board. I think that would be a shame, however, but I’m not one for having something overstay its welcome. If people want to use Facebook exclusively, then that’s fine. I don’t happen to think that’s as much fun or as personal, but it’s what’s happening and there’s nothing to be done about it. Funnily, I think if we did shut down the board in a few months people would realize just how much they miss the uniqueness of our board, so perhaps we should just get the HELL out of the dog days of summer and get back to some deliriously fun postings like we normally have. I’ve given up on certain people who really do seem to thrive and live on Facebook, but I’d hope that others will still be here for the merriment and mirth and laughter and legs. There, I’ve ranted, I’m done ranting, and time will tell whether we weather the storm or not. Of course, the notes will not be going anywhere anytime soon. But I say, let us rise from the ashes and banish the word feh from our vocabularies and make our board the hopping jernt it usually is.

Speaking of hopping, yesterday was a busy little day and I hopped hither and thither and even yon. I got a decent night’s sleep, got up, answered e-mails, did errands and whatnot, continued transferring Kander and Ebb songs into iTunes and then began listening to all of them. That was good, because I vetoed many off the list, which made the list a little more manageable. I got an idea for a way to open the show that I think is amusing, so we’ll see where that goes. We also cast our last female performer, so we just have one guy left and we’re waiting to hear from someone – if we don’t, we move on to the next. But for now, we have two new cast members and this will be their first show for us – and they’re two dear friends and two people I’ve worked with – Lauren Rubin and Marsha Kramer. The other cast members, both of whom have done several shows for us, are Juliana Hansen and Damon Kirsche. We’re still looking for a guest star.

Then I did some errands and whatnot, picked up no packages, made some telephonic calls, and somehow the day went by quickly without me having a chance to write. Then I went to the Hills of Woodland to take someone for a birthday dinner. We went to a very good Chinese jernt called Yang Chow (last time I was there was with Mr. Barry Pearl about two years ago). We had the orange chicken (very different from Genghis Cohen but VERY good), kung pao chicken (best I’ve ever had), cold sesame noodles (also great) and some white rice. After that, I came home but it was too late to watch a motion picture on any format. I also had an e-mail from the man who worked at the lab where I took the Nudie Musical internegative to check out. He said he may have a line on the camera negative. This I will believe when I see the thing in front of my eyes. If it were to be true, that’s what we’d use for the transfer, but it’s actually more work since the camera negative is not timed, color-wise – still, that would really be something, wouldn’t it? I’m not holding my breath, though.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get some beauty sleep before my early arisal.

Today, I shall be up quite early. I will then go pick up tapes for three potential projects. After that, I must get myself to the Hills of Beverly for a lunch meeting at Nate ‘n’ Al’s. I will be having my extra lean pastrami with cole slaw and Russian dressing and we’ll be splitting kishka. Can’t wait, actually. After that, it will be errands and whatnot, hopefully picking up a package or three, and then home to write, after which I shall watch a motion picture and hopefully not have to say feh.

Tomorrow, I will finalize the Kander and Ebb songs and gather up all the music. Juliana leaves town on Monday, I think, and needs her music and CDR prior to that, so I’ll definitely be choosing her three songs. Plus, I’ll do a bit of writing. Saturday is a work session and then a meal and then a film music concert in the evening. Sunday is, of course, our Annual Tony Awards Bash – it’s the place to be so be there or be round.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, pick up tapes, have a lunch meeting, do errands and whatnot, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the most indulgent thing you’ve ever done for yourself? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland trying not to say feh.
