WE INTERRUPT THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well dear readers, Just before I went to post these here notes, Time Warner went down. I called and was told it was a scheduled six hour maintenance so I won’t be able to put the rea notes up until I get up in the morning. Go Time Warner, you inept wazoos. Wouldn’t it be nice if they gave their customers, oh, you know, a warning? And now, the regularly scheduled notes.

Well, dear readers, last night we had our first run-through after a five-day forced recess – something I will never do again. I wouldn’t have minded taking Thanksgiving and the Friday off, but losing Saturday and Sunday is killer and five full days is something I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered before in my forty-one years in the business. Despite that, we had a very good run-through – the cast came back and pretty much got back into the groove – some of the show was not as good as it’s been in previous run-throughs, but the fact that we had no train wrecks, save for two flubbed lyrics in the second act, is completely amazing and a testament to this cast and crew. And the fact that this show has basically come together in fourteen days is equally amazing. If we’d had Saturday and Sunday we’d be ready to open. As it is, there is some work to be done and hopefully the few kinks will iron themselves out in tonight’s dress/tech with audience. I got through my stuff okay, but I really wish I did not put myself through what I put myself through – it’s totally irritating and unnecessary and starting with today, que sera sera – I’m not fretting or worrying about my voice – it will be what it will be and I’ll get through it fine, I’m sure.

The show looks very good and I’m still finding my own way with the act one patter – for some reason, the act two patter I’m having a lot more fun with – have to transfer some of that back to the first act. The performers are all terrific and getting themselves back into performance mode. We don’t have all that many tickets sold yet, but they assure me that most of their business happens the day of performance, so hopefully that will prove to be true.

Otherwise, yesterday was a perfectly fine day. I got up after nine hours of sleep – that was perfectly fine. I answered e-mails and then did the four-mile jog, after which I went and had some bacon and eggs, toast, and tomatoes. Then I picked up one small package and an important envelope, then came home. I got everything prepped for our new release announcement, which is going up as soon as these here notes go up.

The helper was supposed to be back yesterday morning but I never heard a peep. Many orders to go out, so I’d best hear from the dear girl very soon. I went to LACC around four, had a little meeting with the lighting and sound folks (our second mic never arrived, even though it was guaranteed for today – it’s showing as “in transit” – but no one called UPS and read them the riot act, so who knows when or if it will actually arrive). We did a cue-to-cue – some light cues we’d definitely programmed were MIA, so those had to be redone. Also, one of our moving lights blew a bulb and for whatever reasons there were no replacement bulbs – one will be bought today, but that means I don’t get to see it in action until the performance, unless they can show me at five.

After the run-through, I stopped at Gelson’s and got a few slices of their homemade ham, a teeny-tiny thing of lobster salad, and an equally small bit of Chinese chicken salad. I’ve been avoiding any sort of sweets for the last few days. Because it’s taken an unbelievable number of weeks to even lose two or three pounds, my black pants are not that comfortable a fit yet, which is really annoying. But, this one pair are the only pair I can actually get into, so wear them I must, unless I switch to beige – those I can get into fine.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get these here notes posted, I must announce our new title, and I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall hopefully get up after a good night’s beauty sleep. I shall then do the four-mile jog, after which I have an appointment with Teddy to get my do done, then I’ll have something light but amusing to eat, and then I’ll head over to LACC for our final dress/tech with audience. Please send most excellent vibes and xylophones for a smooth run-through and a strong voice for the likes of me.

Tomorrow is, of course, our opening night. I have almost no plans for the day, so I’ll just relax and then head over to LACC around six. Curtain is at seven-fifteen. Thursday we have a three o’clock matinee and a seven-fifteen evening. Our matinee gal goes on for the first time, without even a proper put in, but she’s been at every rehearsal and has run each of her numbers many times.

Well, the Internet just went out – planned maintenance the phone message just said, with no clew as to how long it will be down – this after we were down six hours last week. Not happy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, I must see Teddy, I must eat something light, and I must do a dress/tech with audience. Today’s topic of discussion: I am so angry right now with Time Warner that I cannot think of a topic other than what would be a good alternate way to get the Internet. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall hopefully awaken with a rested voice, as I just spoke rather loudly to Time Warner, which I should not have done as it just trashed my voice even further. I have no idea when these here notes will be up.
