November 9, 2012:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s another anniversary here at haineshisway.com. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, today, November 9th we begin our twelfth year (I think we begin our twelfth year – I can never figure out this stuff) on the Internet and I do feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet. This site was born out of chaos on November 9, 2001, but, for me, it quickly became the most beautiful place on Earth, peopled with the most beautiful people on Earth. We’ve been through good times and bum times – we’ve seen ’em all and my dear – we’re still here. We’ve gone from being completely unique to being completely copied by others. We’ve had births, deaths, anniversaries, birthdays, comings and goings and goings and comings and it’s been a helluva ride, I have to say. I adore all of you dear readers and even our lurkers. We’ve made a beautiful thing here at haineshisway.com. And who would have thought that on this discussion board alone (which came into existence after our second year, I think) we’d be having ten million hits a year (I’m not kidding) and close to nine hundred thousand postings? That’s really something – I don’t know what, but something. So, here’s to many more anniversaries and many more wonderful days and nights here at haineshisway.com.

Now, the question of the day is do I or do I not get off my chest what I need to get off my chest? That is the conundrum I face this day. Last night, I wrote a very strong draft of an e-mail and the question now is whether to send it. I feel the recipient deserves to get it – I feel I’ve been spat upon by this person, I feel this person has been rude and insensitive, when I have invested a lot of time and energy and effort to do nothing but be helpful and loyal beyond the call of duty, really. I’m sure most of you can figure out what this is regarding, but I feel if I don’t send the e-mail, that this will continue to eat away at me and cause negativity, and that I cannot and will not allow. Once off my chest then it’s easy for me to let it go and put it away once and for all. Well, I suppose I’ll read what I wrote when I get up and make the decision then. IF I send it at least it says everything that needs to be said, albeit in a strong way, which, for me, is the way it needs to be said. This is kind of just the straw that broke the Kimmel’s back. End of paragraph about a conundrum and am always ready to hear our wonderful dear reader’s thoughts

Other than that irritation, yesterday was a VERY long but very nice day. I finally got about nine-and-a-half hours of sleep, which was great. Then I had to answer a bunch of e-mails, then I had a couple of telephonic conversations and then it was time to mosey on over to the editing room to swap out one shot for episode one of Outside The Box and see the first cut of the second episode. The swapped shot took only a couple of minutes – the editor agreed with my reasoning and it does work better now, I think. It was in the first number with the ensemble, and at the final line of verse one, which is kind of a humorous lyric line, he’d cut from a front shot to a side shot – the shot itself was fine, but we both ultimately felt that it made you look rather than hear. I felt that strongly at the screening. So, we simply went from a closer front shot to a medium front shot – and that made the lyric much clearer because your eye was accustomed to the angle and the change was only in size – it did the trick and we locked the episode.

Then I watched episode two and it was a very good first cut. He’d done two versions of the set-up scene – the full scene as written, and a slightly shorter version. Since the episode was running almost seven minutes, I immediately opted for the shorter version. And then we shortened the shorter version by about fifteen seconds so it’s very tight now – in fact, it’s shorter than episode one’s set-up scene (the songs are a bit longer in the second episode – hence the disparity). Then we did some nitpicking of shots in the musical numbers – in the end I think we changed about five things and then we watched it and it played really well. It has some truly funny things in it and I was very pleased. We then made the compressed and uncompressed files and put them on our hard drive, after which we went out and had Dino’s Pizza, each having four of their reasonably sized slices. It really is the best pizza in town. Then we went back to the editing room and I headed home. I never had time to get to the mail place so I have no idea if I had packages or not.

Then I had to head over to Mr. Barry Pearl’s house and we all read through a script and listened to music, after which we had a talk about all of it. We’ve been futzing with this project for a couple of years now, and we’ll see what happens from here. After that, I came home and ate a few pieces of Halloween candy. I’ve about had it with the Halloween candy and my dump all of it in the trash today. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I need another good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I have to finish liner notes two, I have to have confirmation that we’re finally fully cast for next week’s shoot (I have a back-up person if we’re not), I have to hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, eat, and I hope to get some relaxing in. And I will hopefully make the decision and the right decision whether to send the e-mail and get this off my chest once and for all.

Tomorrow will be more writing and hopefully some relaxing, Sunday I’m attending the opening of a play at the Pasadena Playhouse, and next week is going to be REALLY busy with working with the East Coast Singer, doing our shoot, and getting packaging done on two releases and trying to figure out exactly WHAT our next release is and exactly WHEN I’ll feel like announcing it. Since November is such a loony month for releases, I may just wait until the beginning of December and then do three releases that month. We shall see.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, maybe do a jog, confirm we’re fully cast, write, hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, many Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, Guys and Dolls and many others. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I will awaken and deal with the conundrum of getting it off my chest. Just what it is doing on my chest when I have never been on the chest of it is anyone’s guess. And once again, the happiest of anniversaries to the likes of us.
