WRITE LIKE THE WIND

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I shan’t dip my toe in the water, writing notes-wise, I shall jump in and write like the wind. I’m very fond of the writings of the wind. Especially the wind’s wonderful contribution to The Randy Vicar stories – the wind is responsible for one of the finest – The Randy Vicar and the Door Knob. That was a corker. Anyway, I shall not dip my toe in the water I shall jump right in and que sera sera, whatever will be, will be. One thing I’ll mention right off the bat is that I uploaded the soundtrack to The Russia House to iTunes, because I was rather surprised at how good the score was when I recently watched the marvelous new Blu-ray. I bought the CD when it came out because even though I thought Mr. Goldsmith was long past his prime days, and listening to the soundtrack back then, I just really didn’t care for any of it but the main theme. Listening to it again, I still don’t like it. So, I really liked it in the film and really didn’t like it on disc (disc has sixty-one minutes of music). Why is that? Well, for one, the score sounds absolutely amazing in the film – on the CD it sounds rather anemic. And whatever the sequencing on the CD is about, it’s just not a very good listening experience. Albums are an art and it’s just amazing how many soundtrack albums are not helped by either bad sound or bad sequencing. I wish the music could be released again, but alas, it doesn’t look like that will be happening. And now, the notes.

Yesterday, I got only six hours of sleep due to brain being active. I was up at ten, answered e-mails, had telephonic calls, and then suddenly it was noon and time for the work session for the Kritzerland show. We went through all the numbers, we worked out the “feels” and there are quite a few put-togethers in this show, so we figured all those out, too. The songs are all wonderful and I think it will be quite a lovely show.

Then I did a two-and-a-half mile jog, the helper returned from vacation and came and picked up some invoices and we discussed the moving of our storage unit to a different storage place. I have had it with these jerks at Public Storage, raising the rent hugely every year without fail. The helper found another place, same size space, and it is HALF the cost of the Public Storage unit. And I can tell you right now, the minute we vacate in order to actually rent the unit, they will give someone a much more reasonable price because no one will be willing to pay what I was paying. They are venal, sickening people, the owners of that company.

Then I got ready, and then moseyed on over to the rehearsal studio in North Hollywood. We began rehearsal at four with the band and our two singers running all the numbers. Some things were adjusted, but the musicians are great and there wasn’t any real trouble. We took a break, then ran the entire show with patter. I’d given a little cute staging to one number, which is all I had time to do, but I took notes and will be e-mailing them to our two wonderful gals. And then on Sunday we’ll work out all the entrances and exits and I’ll probably give a teeny bit more staging and some buttons.

I hadn’t had a chance to eat anything prior to that, so at seven I headed over to the Coral Café, where I was joined by occasional dear reader Leslie Young and her daughter Alexa. I had my usual chicken Caesar wrap and a little side salad with Caesar dressing. Because that was way under what my caloric intake needed to be, and because they so rarely have it, I had a small slice of pumpkin pie, the least caloric of any pie, weighing in at about 240 calories. It was very good and I did leave some of the crust. After, they came back to my house to get a Nudie Musical Blu-ray, as they’d never seen it. They went home and watched it and thought it was really funny, so that’s always nice to hear. Meanwhile, I just relaxed, listened to music and did some writing.

Today, I’ll be up by ten, and then I have a lunch meeting at the Du-Par’s in Pasadena. I’ll try to just have something light, like poached eggs and an English muffin, or perhaps some clam chowder. I’m sure that will last about ninety minutes, and then I’ll come back to the City of Studio, hopefully pick up packages, then come home. Then a bit later I have to go to the Dale of Glen to see some show.

Tomorrow, I’m having a lunch then seeing Hello, Dolly, then coming right home. Sunday I’ll relax until three, at which point I go to The Federal to sound check, set entrances and exits, and make sure we’re all good to go. Monday we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, and the rest of the week is either ALS stuff or Kritzerland rehearsals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, either jog pre or post lunch, have a lunch, hopefully pick up packages, and then see a show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, upcoming Kritzerland stuff. Blu and Ray, next up, Victor, Victoria. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having written like the wind.
