Merry Christmas, everybody!

And happy birthday to Evelyn Nesbit!

I am wearing DS-FC (Dear Spot-Faced Cat, in internet lingo) Joshie's present while he's playing outside. It's a feather boa. I look beautiful.

I am also trying to figure out how to work the iPod my aunt sent me. My mom is mad because said aunt didn't stick to the ten-dollar limit they agreed on. I, however, am not complaining.

I also got stacks of CDs.  The Anonymous 4 items put me in a Beta state (no mean feat, since Beta is a defunct format), and, though he is quirky and a little too precious at times, I really enjoyed JRB's solo album.  Still unlistened to are the two new Michael John LaC musicals (hey, they were on sale--so sue me).  I wonder if these will leave me as cold as everything else he's done has.  :)

Which two new musicals are they?

I'm missing The Brain From Planet X.  I hate those sort of two week runs - just when it's getting smooth and good and you want to start working on things, it's over.

That's how I feel about Cannibal.  We had just hit our stride and the audiences were eating it up (not literally, though ;)), and then it ends. :-\

I'm back from my matinee of DREAMGIRLS (actually was home by 2:30). The theater was packed, and the audience was VERY enthusiastic. Yes, Jennifer Hudson stopped the show (if you can call it that with a movie) twice, and "Steppin' into the Bad Side" and "Dreamgirls" also brought down the house. I will be very, very surprised if this movie doesn't hit big. Unlike most of us here, many people don't know this sensational music and will be discovering it for the first time with this film (just like CHICAGO).

I found it a marvelous piece of entertainment, and I found myself thrilled by it on several occasions. I also had a tremendous lump in my throat when it was over, relieved that one of my favorite musicals had been brought to the screen with so much of it intact.

Yes, there are definitely changes to the story, but in the main, I can't complain. I even liked all three of the new songs, especially the one Jennifer Hudson did in the first half of the picture. (Naturally, that's not the one that got the Golden Globe nomination; Beyonce's "Believe" did.)

I found the casting mostly spot-on, but I have to agree that Jamie Foxx just didn't bring enough grit and grouch to his part. His performance is almost nonchalant, and with everyone else throwing themselves into their roles with such vigor, he looked out of his league.

Great to see Loretta Devine and Ken Page in nice little parts (Loretta gets to sing, and her voice is still wonderful). The wig on John Lithgow brought jeers from the audience, the one truly negative reaction from the audience during the movie. Enjoyed seeing John Krasinski (Jim from THE OFFICE) in a tiny bit, and I didn't even recognize Hinton Battle in the movie. When I saw his credit on the screen at the end, I gasped!

See DREAMGIRLS!

I had time when I got home to watch the last two episodes on the MEDIUM set.

The next to last one featured Kelsey Grammer as the Angel of Death. The premise and mystery were excellent, but just as I felt when I first saw it, the ending was too pat.

The last of the season's episodes featured the ever-gorgeous David James Elliott as Allison's husband in an extended dream sequence in which her life was totally different. Things managed to work themselves out to everyone's relief but poor defense attorney Watt who always comes out on the losing end of these things. Seems like he'd finally learn not to mess with Allison.

Gotta run, they keep me very busy around here, no time for computers. We're going to eat a wonderful roast beef, brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes and gravy (potatoes made with cream cheese and sour cream) Lot of christmas cookies and scalloped corn.  With a nice wine selection, it should a be a wonderful feast.

Time to go get appetizers and watch ELF.

Today, everyone in the family is going to my sister's house for lunch.  It'll be a day of eating and playing games and talking and listening to music.  My niece's other grandmother, aunt and her husband will be there, too.

Have a great day, all!!

Just watched the ANNIE alum documentary, LIFE AFTER TOMORROW, on Showtime.  Very emotional and illuminating.

While it's obviously not the same impact on actors' lives, since the ANNIE "orphans" were all really kids, the whole phenomenon brings to mind the current phenomenon of the JERSEY BOYS leads.

She should find "Merry Christmas, Darling" by The Carpenters.

I also went to see DREAMGIRLS today.  The theatre was quite full (at 1pm). But what surprised me even more was how packed the whole movie plex was when we got out. It was so full of people i could not believe it.

I have never seen the stage version of the show, but really enjoyed the movie. My mom actually loved it and was gushing when it was over.

My favorite performance was Jennifer Hudson, followed by Jamie Foxx.

Fog has settled onto the pond and all the surrounding environs here in Johnston SC.  The air is cooler, too.

Not much longer before we'll be trekking 'cross the street to chow with the rellies...again.

Honestly, by Christmas Day, I've pretty much "had it" in terms of festivities.

We've been watching the History Channel all afternoon.  All UFO shows -- Brasil, Mexico, Texas, etc.

Nothing ever changes...lots of theories, lots of assertions, lots of debunking, ZERO evidence and no conclusions.

FYI, I'm flying back to Oakland on Wednesday morning.  I'll be arriving in San Francisco a little after noon, PST.

It's been quite a visit.  It seems to have gone by in a hurry, but thinking back on all the events and things we've experienced, it has been fully enjoyed.

By me, at least!

What would Camus do?

Would too many prunes make Camus doodoo?

Was Camus a practitioner of voodoo?

Do people not familiar with his work ask "Camus who?"

If you named your pet cow after him, would Camus moo?

She obviously takes great joy in her gift buying.

I always hated being restricted by limits when I participated in such things.

Of course, if names were being drawn and I wasn't fond of the person whose name I drew, I took great pains to meet the limit AND find something he or she would like (just to spite myself).
