Well, you've read the notes, the notes were speedy and now it is time for you to post until the speedy cows come home in Speedos.

And the word of the day is: TOXOPHILITE!

And now - Dino at the piano.
-
And now... DR Matthew to bed.... speeding.

And now... DR Matthew to bed.... speeding.
Is that a euphemism?
-
Good Morning!...
And since I apparently have just spent the past hour or two asleep in the living room sitting in the big comfy chair with my laptop on my lap...
Goodnight.
-
I've finally caught up with all of yesterday's posts! I went to work for a few hours and afterwards, my niece and went to Trader Joe's in Federal Way (about 45 miles north of us). On the way through Tacoma, we saw the smoke from the Atlas Foundry fire and people on the opposite of the freeway watching what was going on. From the car, we couldn't see anything except the smoke...and there was a lot. The traffic going north was not a problem at all, but later in the evening, going south was very slow around there. But, it was only about a 10 or 15 minute slow-down. After that, fast as ususal. :)
-
Congrats to DR Noel on latest review of "Such Good Friends"!
-
Thanks, DR FJL. Most of the material I've seen says 4:30, but my e-ticket says 4:00. :-\
DR François - thanks for the links!

What did you purchase at Trader Joe's? I love that store!
-
I will have to pull out Evil Dead and listen to it again in your honor...
-
I think DR George went out for a pizza...
I need to go walk Zach and get ready for church.
Smooches, kidz!
-
What did you purchase at Trader Joe's? I love that store!
I haven't been to Trader Joe's in several weeks. I got some greek style yogurt (two 6-ounce containers of vanilla bean flavor and two 32-ounce containers that are plain...the vanilla is good...haven't had the plain, yet), two bottles of sparkling blueberry juice, two 1.5 litre bottles of Figi water (I just love the bottles :)), some mini chocolate peanut butter cups (one serving is 210 calories, but 27...yes, 27 pieces! they're small, but very good), some chocolate covered cherries and a few other things that I can't remember. I also got some stuff for my sister and my friend, Margo (I was on the phone with her for almost a half hour at the store). A good time was had by all. :D
-
I think DR George went out for a pizza...
Not quite, but that sounds good..even at this hour. ;D

Hello from Montreal.
Visiting family on this Canadian Thanksgiving Day Weekend. I didn't realize it was this weekend. I remembered it being the second weekend of the month. Oh well.
It is also the weekend for the Black & Blue Party, which I heard about on CBC radio. It is a gathering of gay men who enjoy the leather lifestyle. Which I guess explains all the men I saw in the custom's lineup at the Montreal airport.
Friday had some fine weather, but Saturday and Today (so far) has been damp with occasional rain.
The high point of my trip has been drinking a Gibeau Orange Julep. They are celebrating their 75th Anniversary. It must be the last of the drive-in restaurants in the Montreal area and the last of the architectural thematic designed restaurants. Having a julep is one of my last connections to my youth. All other places are gone and are just a memory.
Below is a picture of the big orange.

Good morning, all! I'm treading cautiously but making plans to head to Toyland for a few hours of work. Beyond that, I have nothing to report.
-
Sunday morning greetings! Today's the day DH Richard and I bid farewell to NYC :'( He's gone to church, but I thought it would be best to stay away from the incense, which makes me cough even when I don't have a cold. I must pack, but not before another cup of coffee or 2.
-
Great news that the Brain and Starfighter CDs are getting a sales bump from NYMF. Our friends Doug & Jon were very pleased when we presented them with a Brain CD at dinner the other night. Thanks, DR Elmore, for helping make that possible!

DR Ginny, you are quite welcome! How's your plan to convince Doug to join HHW going?

Good morning!
Slightly cooler this morning, but we're ehading toward a high near 90 today and tomorrow, so I'm trying to cool the house down so I can close everything up by noon and not have to turn on the A/C. That's the plan, anyway.

I spent some time this morning listening to the audio commentary for the two hour MEDIUM season premiere. The first hour with creator/writer Glen Gordon Caron was very dull with lots of silence; the second hour which features the co-writer and director of the episode is much livelier and more interesting.
-
This afternoon will once again be devoted almost entirely to MEDIUM. I'll be starting disc 2 in the 6-disc set. Would love to get discs 2 and 3 finished today.
Tonight, of course, are DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BROTHERS & SISTERS, COLD CASE, and DEXTER on the agenda. Will watch the two ABC shows and have the DVR pick up the others.
-
And the word of the day is: TOXOPHILITE!
And The Song Of The Day Is- STUPID CUPID
with a BOW to Neil Sedaka
-
On the DVR, I still haven't managed to see THE OFFICE, MY NAME IS EARL, or CSI: NY, but I have deliberately put off watching the latter since I had spent several days with the season 3 DVD set.

GOOD MORNING ALL

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. A busy, but mostly fun, day ahead.

As much fun as yesterday, DR Laura? The photos look like you were having a great time!

I am watching THREE FOR THE on TCM....a musical I have barely heard of....featuring Marge & Gower Champion, Jack Lemmon, Betty Grable - and a lot of dancing and dream sequences set to classical music (Swan Lake, Liebstraum, William Tell Overture)....very strange movie.

Main theme though is "Someone to Watch Over Me."

Did you get to visit with Jonathan and Jackie? How was their line?

Yesterday, I gave Bonnie a bath.
Der Brucer and I decided to go downtown for the Greyhounds at the Beach festivities. Most of the festing takes place in Dewey Beach, to the south of us, but there's enough overflow here in Rehoboth to make the closer trip worth while.
We took just two of ours, Bonnie and Buster (the blondes), along with us. Der Brucer also took the camera, but it was already too twilight to get any good shots.
Bonnie and Buster were extatic to a) get a wonderful car ride, and b) get to walk around, side by side, on the Boardwalk. Some people thought them cute, which of course they are. And appropriate sniffing took place with some of the other dogs.
We'd have stayed longer, but while walking along a parkway Bonnie suddenly stopped and started rolling around, pressing herself down onto the ground. Lo and behold, she'd found a spot where some other Spot had left something behind. It was not pretty. Nor was the perfume that eminated from her neck as lovely as she might have thought.
Which is why I gave Bonnie a bath last night.

No, the only two competitive reality shows I watch are AMERICAN IDOL and PROJECT RUNWAY. I don't see that changing for as long as those two shows stay on the air.
(I'm assuming this show is a competitive reality show?)
-
Speaking of PROJECT RUNWAY, they had the line-up of contestants for the next season in ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY last week. I tore out the two page spread and wil have a better estimation of who each one is once the show begins. I can also cross them off as they get eliminated.
-
I'm going to head back down now and pick back up with MEDIUM. I may slip in Thursday night's THE OFFICE for a change of pace around lunchtime.

News from Work:
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a lot of pink is to be found in the store. There's special pink printing on different cans and boxes, there are special pink signs posted, and there are even special pink shopping bags, of the reusable/recycleable sort.
Along those lines, Dixie and Stacey, two of the lead floor managers, have decided it would be a great idea for all the cashiers to wear pink t-shirts on Saturdays, if the idea gets approved by Mark, the store manager. And Mark will probably say yes.
Dixie asked me yesterday if I would be willing to wear a pink t-shirt on Saturdays, if the plan goes through. Well, sure I would. Only, of course, I don't own a pink t-shirt.
Dixie joked that I could have der Brucer wash a red t-shirt with a white t-shirt. Only, of course, most t-shirts are being made color-fast these days. And I do my own laundry, thank-you.
So, while Bonnie was stinking up the car, der B and I checked at some of the stores in the outlet malls we have here in Rehoboth.
No pink t's at Jockey. At least, not for men.
No pink t's at Nike. No pink t's at Old Navy. No pink t's at any of the stores we checked.
At least, not for men.
I'll have to try downtown, where there are specialty/novelty t-shirt stores for those with souveniers in mind. I might be able to find a good pink t-shirt there.
But it's not just for myself I'll be looking. There's also Larry, and Jim, and Karen (from eastern Europe - the second syllable is accented), all of whom I doubt have pink t-shirts. Well, maybe Larry has one. I know Ed, who handles customer service, has one, because I've seen him wear it. So I'll be looking for two Large (for me and Larry), a Small (for Karen, who is very slight in build) and an Extra-Extra-Extra-Extra Large (for Jim, who doesn't look like Karen at all).
It's either that, or try dying some plain white shirts.
If we're going to do that, we might as well go all-out and dye them Barbie pink.
I wonder if Dixie and Stacey have any idea how much trouble they're causing.
-
Re: Next Iron Chef
(I'm assuming this show is a competitive reality show?)
Yep, a competitive reality show. The winner's prize is a regular role in Iron Chef America, as one of the lead chefs. This can mean mucho moola - Bobby Flay and Mario Batali have both parlayed their FoodTV fame into big franchises, with Morimoto and Cat Cora following suit, although neither is yet as famous. And ICA is a show where the competition, and cooking, is decidedly real. I've even got der Brucer hooked, and while my cooking skills are not up to what they do on ICA, I've picked up a few ideas from that show.

Did DR MBARNUM say he was looking for a new television set?
I guess I have to say thanks to NBC for putting 30 ROCK between EARL and the OFFICE.

And of course Thursday is also the night for MAD MEN.

IS IT WRONG DEPT?
Why is it that I would rather have my brother's new girlfriend at my niece's wedding next Saturday than his estranged wife?

The morning after…
First, thanks to the community here at Haines His Way, for showing so much interest in Such Good Friends. Asking questions, saying you enjoyed reading my posts, enjoyed reading reviews and interviews, and, best of all – attending the show! So many of you! I’m very grateful.
I always thought it might be interesting to compare and contrast our NYMF experiences: me, BK and FJL. BK had to endure the headaches that a director and producer go through. I was shielded from those anxieties by a top director and a NYMF-veteran producer who saw to it that my blood pressure wasn’t raised every time our show was NYMF-ed. Fred alludes to things he cannot utter, so we don’t exactly know what they are, but it’s a safe bet his experience is very different, wearing one hat (book-writer) and being in the good hands of the director with the most NYMF experience, Elizabeth Lucas.
There’s a line in My Fair Lady (probably Pygmalion, too) in which Higgins defends his bad behavior by claiming that he treats everyone equally. I imagine NYMF could make that claim. Among the keys to Such Good Friends’ success was having a team of top professionals – stage manager Jon Goldman, lighting maven Jim Milkey, and sound man Nick Borisjuk, who saw to it that every word could be heard. From the audience’s point of view, there were no technical glitches at all.
Our leading lady hosted a terrific cast party that lasted no fewer than 6 hours. We could barely tear ourselves a way from each other, such was the love and admiration in that room. These ten came into my life SO recently – the first read-through was September 10, and all brilliantly contributed to the storytelling. Rehearsals were an amazing creative process “What if I moved here?” “How about if I said it this way?” that improved the show immeasurably. To anyone who seems impressed that one man wrote book, music and lyrics, I say it’s a misconception: one writer and ten actors fashioned this text, under the superb guidance of a boy wonder director, who contributed a great many lines. It’s the product of a dozen. And, those who saw it: How about that choreography? Funny? Telling the story? That’s Wendy Seyb’s brilliance. And the one thing I never had to worry about – SO supportive, SO helpful in furthering the story – the musical direction and orchestration of Michael Horsley.
Something I never imagined was how colorful our production would be. I dream in black and white, and Jeff Hinchee’s sets and Lisa Zinni’s glorious costumes enlivened what I’d always thought of as a drab era, still remaining true to the period.
I may have more later...
-

Good morning. The girls are driving me crazy!!! Boo insists on clawing my couch in the living room. I trimmed her claws so she isn't really doing any damage, but I still don't want her to do it. Callie is not well enough that when I say NO to Boo often enough she comes in and starts chasing her and wrestling with her. It's kind of cute. Boo was going crazy earlier watching the leaves fall, so I think I'll go get her some to play with. I brought in a few last year and she had a wee of a time playing with them.
Now I'm off to the Temple up the street for their annual Latke feed
-
I'm up and trying to get ready for the interview this morning.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm sooooooo not looking forward to having to be up and functional at 8:15AM on Tuesday (and Wednesday). Just sayin'.
-
I can't and won't say anything negative, but I'll point out as a mtter of factual accuracy that the shows that got on the big NYMF press conference (most of them due to having major star names) got much more press coverage than all the others.
Also as a matter of factual accuracy, shows that didn't have to store their set in a 16-square-foot area had a clear advantage over shows that did have to.
-
I do suspect we all had different NYMF experiences for completely different reasons, none of which had to do with having a team of top professionals. Certainly you can have a top sound board operator, but if the sound board is screwing up or other shows in your venue are unpatching things without telling anyone, then it's the fault of the cheap board and the other shows. Some shows lucked out and didn't have problems, although most did, from what I've read and been told, in all the venues. I think the Acorn had more lighting problems than any other venue, so the shows in there naturally suffered more than shows who were not. I think we had a total of two shows that went without a technical glitch of some sort and I heard the same from other shows in our venue.
I think NYMF does not treat all shows equally - in fact, I know they don't. Not just from my vantage point, but I've heard it from several other shows. And yes, if one is doing duty other than just writing, of course one is in the thick of it. Other than writing the checks, I was not the producer of The Brain - that's why I hired a general management company - they were the line producer of the show, dealing with all the daily stuff, just as Julie and Noel's producer dealt with their daily stuff. When I needed something taken care of, they took care of it, and they were on NYMF like nobody's business.
In the end, it was a worthwhile experience because we had some wonderful audiences who loved the show, got some nice reviews, but, most importantly, it looks like we came out of it with what will be a terrific stock and amateur licensing deal with a major company - we're hammering out the fine points now, but are very excited if it all works out.
-

Yeah, it's quite interesting not hearing the flipped/rolled "r's". However, his version of "The Prayer" is also interesting since he definitely sounds more Italianate on that track, which I'm guessing is the influence of the original recording of Andrea Bocelli.

DR SWW - As far as finding pink t-shirts right now... Well, since we are in now in the season known as Fall - even though it still feels like Summer - I suspect a lot of the pink shirts have been put away or sold at Clearance. But, really, no pink t-shirts at Old Navy? Hmm.... Is there a Hello, Kitty store near you? ;)
*I'd also check Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Macy's, etc., since I'm guessing Jerzees, Champion, etc., may have pink t-shirts still available - but they may be in the "active wear" section of the store.

While I was in NY, I was having some abdominal cramps, which I chalked up to eating a lot of weird food at weird hours. But when I got home, it continued. When I went to work Thursday it started really hurting. By Friday, I felt feverish at work and when I got home from work I had a temperature of 101. Not enough to be really sick but enough to make you feel crappy.
Saturday I woke up with a very sharp pain below my hipbone and my fever was even higher. So I went to the after hours care at Kaiser.
They took blood, and the technician stabbed me several times to find the vein. After she was in there, she then started moving the needle around. It hurt so bad I almost passed out.
The Dr. thinks it might be diverticulitis but they will have to do a CAT scan to be sure. I am now renouncing my evil ways and am going to make my health more of a priority. I have taken things for granted because I am so rarely sick and have only taken one sick day since I've been editing, but I have to realize that I am getting older and need to be taking better care of myself and not making work my #1 priority.
This morning I felt better after the drug (they gave me some strong pain meds but I'm going to stick with Ibuprophen for now) and was awakened by my little cat tugging on the cotton ball taped to my arm.
We got up and I told Greg about my blood-letting experience. He gently looked at my arm and then paraphrased a BRAIN line that made me laugh:
"Look at you, being probed and not found"!
LOL!
-
Woody, I think it would a lot less stressful and time consuming, if you just took enough T-shirts that you need for the group and a box of Rit; and dyed all the shirts at the same time.
BTW (By the Way in internet lingo), thank you Jane for the beautiful photos of Ashland yesterday.

DR Jose, you are such a temptress! But I'm going to be good, at least until things get better!
They did decide it wasn't an ovarian cyst. I kep thinking of the CLOSER episode when Brenda felt feverish and had abdonimal pain and they proposed "ovarian drilling". The phrase (uttered by S. Epatha Mererson) was so horrific that they repeated it in slow motion for comic affect.
I still don't know what that is, but I don't even want to think about it at the moment. At least this can be treated by antibiotics and anti-infectants (I had a high white blood cell count) and vicodin, if necessary (which shouldn't be..)

Well, for a few moments there, I thought you were going to tell us that you ended up having an emergency appendectomy and that you were posting from your hospital room, but, thankfully, that was not the case.
However, I remember when Steve's father was diagnosed with diverticulitis, it was quite interesting going over the list of "good" and "bad" foods since some of the "bad" foods seemed like treats to me. :)

Yep! Whatever happened to their announced production of Thomas Keneally's wonderful novel THE PLAYMAKER? It was made into a mediocre play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, Our Country's Good, but the novel is a wonderful book I recommend to everyone.

Well, you can send the Vicodin to me. I have been taking them so often lately, that I have started storing them in a Whitman's Sampler box.

I was kind of afraid of the Vicodin, I thought I might enjoy it too much. The other options were Tylrnol 4 w/ codeine and percocet. I chose percocet but ended up with something called Oxycodene. Is that like Oxycontin?

I spent a majority of the afternoon with MEDIUM, discs 2 and halfway through 3. Disc 2 had no audio commentaries and only one deleted scene.
-
I am really enjoying seeing these MEDIUM episodes again. I've always thought the show was put together so intelligently with Allison's dreams and real world situations. Yes, some episodes are better than others; some are easier to figure out than others.
But even the weakest ones are entertaining and worth seeing.
-
The most memorable one of the batch I watched this afternoon was the one with the bridal shop owner and her daughter murdered. Allison was channeling the murder through the mom's eyes, and Ariel was seeing it through the daughter's eyes. It took the two of them comparing notes to arrive at the killer's identity, not easy to do since Ariel was furious that she was being burdened with this ability that she felt made her abnormal.
-
I concluded my afternoon viewing with Thursday's night's THE OFFICE. It wasn't as funny as last week's episode, but it was still plenty hilarious.
-
I still have MAD MEN, MY NAME IS EARL, and CSI: NY on the DVR to view. I will probably get to EARL since it's a half hour, but then I'll go back to MEDIUM.

Is this a slow newsday here at haineshisway.com? I did a fun interview for the Tolucan Times this morning, then went out and drove about in my motor car on this beautifully beautiful day. I did a couple of errands and now have a few things to do here, but let's get some postin' goin' on, shall we?
-
I was having a bad day at work.
My bartender didn't show up until passed 1:15 (due at 10), nor could she be reached by phone as her cell phone inbox was full and no messages could be delivered.
It was a Steelers' home game day, and I was stuck with managing, serving and bartending - go ahead, call me a wench!
The kitchen is down to one cook per shift on Sundays.
All my people wanted orders from both sides of the kitchen's line.
My bartender showed up having slept in. AND having forgotten her cell phone at the downstairs bar last night.
Fortunately, my second shift server showed up twenty minutes early for her shift.
Went to Borders and got my Entertainment Weekly, which calls FUNNY FACE a "mishmash," and the dvd of JONATHAN LIVINSTON SEAGULL.
The latter sent me online to see what Richard Bach was up to, hence the above link for the esteemed BK.
Got a big grocery order, then cooked country fried steak and country gravy.
The DD Dixie Bell has been out for THREE walks already today.
. . . and I'm looking forward to DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES tonight.
-
...then went out and drove about in my motor car on this beautifully beautiful day.
I too did some motor car tooling about - mainly looking for a parking place at the Beach (it's not only Greyhound weekend, but side-walk sales as well). I finally found a shop with a stock of plain pink men's T-shirts for $20 (which sure beats the $55 another shop wanted for a pink-knit golf shirt).
I made a quick stop at Woody's work place where I discovered they had put a bunch of Romanov Caviar, Reese's Sardines and some Kipper Snacks in the clearance bin :D

You put something out there, you don’t know that anybody’s going to get it. And that’s why I’m so cheered by reading the reactions of others.
Such Good Friends could only have been written by someone steeped in musical theater tradition who respects and loves quality, polished writing and keeps the word "entertainment" as a goal. {EdgeNYC}
…that’s the sort of appreciation I’ve been searching for all my life. On the other end of the spectrum, I’m very interested in what didn’t work for people, since I will clearly jump back into the rewriting process some time soon. Such a steady stream of people came up to me with such compliments, it’s clear that Such Good Friends worked wonderfully for a whole host of people in this form. But folding my arms and saying “then it’s good enough, no more changes” is not an option. I have to learn from these first six audiences and make the show better and better. Away from the pressure cooker of NYMF.
And that means listening carefully to every cavil, including the show ends indecisively. It feels like it needs either a big bittersweet finale, or some sort of shocking downer, but it gets neither {BlogCritics}
Oh, if I’d only remembered to include some sort of shocking downer! Well, maybe next year…

If you want a shocking ending, musicalize Doctorow's BOOK OF DANIEL.

DRMusicGuy was kind enough to come over to my place today and help me. He did carpenter stuff and was very butch. It was very gracious of him to agree to help.
And Bruce, all Marie Callender's have slipped a great deal. The service is nil, and much of the food isn't quite as good. The pies. however, are still spectacular (even if I'm still made at them for taking the Boston Creme Pie off the menu).
-
DR Edi - so sorry to hear that you may have diverticulitis. My mom has it and does very well for long periods of time then decides she needs to have strawberries or raspberries (seeds) or nuts or something she shouldn't and gets another attack. It isn't pleasant. Vibes that things go better for you

A friend who always invites me out to eat when he is broke, asked me to go to Panera tonight because he wanted a big salad. Knowing he wouldn't ask me to pay unless I was also eating, when he called I said I had eaten at home to save money, but planned to join him and have and ice tea. He decided he didn't want to go after all, LOL
-
Time to put in a load of laundry and find some dinner....I hadn't really eaten
-
My father had diverticulosis, boy were those attacks of diverticulitis rough, I feel for you Edi. As my father’s dementia increased he didn’t pay any attention to his “not permitted to eat list” and it didn’t seem to make a difference.
My mother-in-law finds eating certain foods does bother her and sticks to a strict diverticulosis diet. I suppose everyone is different, therefore the controversy over certain foods.

I can't and won't say anything negative, but I'll point out as a matter of factual accuracy that the shows that got on the big NYMF press conference (most of them due to having major star names) got much more press coverage than all the others.
Also as a matter of factual accuracy, shows that didn't have to store their set in a 16-square-foot area had a clear advantage over shows that did have to.
For Such Good Friends, interrupting our third day of rehearsal for a press conference was a huge inconvenience. The actors had to arrive for a sound check at 8:30 a.m., and, given the maximum number of hours they're allowed to work and the time consumed by the press event itself, that day was pretty much ruined for us. We were promised that video from that day would end up on our website. Nope: NYMF'd again! :(
I don't think it's factually accurate to say that these nine shows got more press coverage then shows that weren't there, like that underwear musical. I, for one, never saw any stories about Going Down Swingin', Tully (In No Particular Order) or Look What a Wonder Jesus Has Done - did you?
The press does what it does, and it sounds like you're saying that the presence of a well-known Broadway star in a rinky-dink little festival is not worthy of coverage. Pick that bone with them, if you can. ;)
Staring at my program here, I'm seeing that Such Good Friends was one of seven shows at The Julia Miles, while The Acorn had six, and St. Clements had five, one of which only gave three performances. It's possible the program's misleading me. Only Roller Derby was in a space it didn't have to share with other NYMF shows. But I've no information about whether they had to store in 16 square feet or not.
At some point, I'll suggest ways of making NYMF a little more of a level playing field to the heads of NYMF, and maybe I'll run a few ideas by the folks here. A NYMF-imposed spending cap might be nice. And what do we think about the concept that the same festival can present a true never-been-seen-anywhere before World Premiere, alongside shows that have been seen in New York and out of town before without making this clear to audience and critics? Should there even be critics?
Much to think about...

Good Evening!
I'm back from basically wandering here and there in and through midtown/Times Square/Hell's Kitchen/call-it-what-you-will. I did have to drop off two things for two various people, and those two "missions" were accomplished, and quite easily. However, the rest of my missions/options for the evening just did not appeal strongly enough to actually go through with them. And since I was such a state of indecision, I just went ahead and headed back home. And now I'm doing laundry.
-Oh, I did stop by the New Amsterdam thinking I would go ahead and audit Mary Poppins tonight, but when I got there, it turned out there was a semi-last minute change in the music personnel for the evening. None of the first chair keyboard players were on tonight, so that was the start of my wanderings. There's nothing wrong with keyboard subs, but since I had specific questions I needed to run by the conductor and associate conductor - and since they weren't there - I took that as a sign that I did not need to be there tonight.
Or something like that. ???

And what do we think about the concept that the same festival can present a true never-been-seen-anywhere before World Premiere, alongside shows that have been seen in New York and out of town before without making this clear to audience and critics?
Have you any idea of the ratio of "virgin" to "previously deflowered" shows at NYMF?
der Brucer
-
You made me laugh Jose :D
-
Oh, I'll be suggesting many things about the NYMF experience, believe me. And actually, there were seven shows at the Acorn - one was a two or three-nighter as I recall. Roller Derby is the poster child for how to abuse a festival. They clearly wanted the NYMF prestige (if there IS prestige) or the NYMF umbrella, but they just as clearly did not want to play by any NYMF rules or have any of the constraints that other shows have. Either there's a level playing field or there's not - it's that simple. The fact that a show using the NYMF umbrella was allowed to rent their own theater because poor babies just didn't want to have to break down their set in thirty minutes like the rest of the shows, and they wanted to have a preview, and they wanted to rehearse in their theater, and they wanted two or three days to tech and they didn't want to allow critics into their show the first week (and it looks like the second week, too, as I have not seen one review of the show). So, they rent their own theater, put the actors on a different contract so they can tech the show prior to opening, their set can stay on the stage, and they don't have to share their lighting and sound equipment with four to seven other shows, all of whom don't give a crap about each other, and therefore do whatever they feel like without regard to the consequences the show that follows them may have.
A spending cap? It is to laugh. Equity DEMANDS a spending cap of no more than 15K on the production - the actors and rehearsal space are on top of that. I would doubt that ANY NYMF show this year respected that cap. They all turn in budgets that are bogus, it's that simple. Roller Derby spent close to 100K. Think that's fair? Of course, the joke is everyone hated the show so there you are. For all the bellyaching about money, it's obvious that you spend and spend and spend - no one knew about all these little extra NYMF charges that kept popping up over and over again - it certainly drove my show considerably overbudget.
I agree about letting people know that many of the shows have been presented elsewhere, while few are World Premieres. We were very open about it and it was all over our NYMF page - photos from the LA PRODUCTION, blah, blah, blah. Again, the most egregious and blatant show that didn't put its cards on the table was Roller Derby, The "New Musical" which had its first production in 1978 and several productions since, all with considerable money behind them and all failures.
I'll say this about critics - allowing them to attend opening night is reprehensible. The cast is playing that space for the FIRST TIME, after having had a run-through right up to ninety minutes before curtain. I'll tell you this - all our mediocre reviews were from critics who saw the show opening night, when it was simply "off." The critics who came Friday night issued wonderful reviews. The critics who saw it during the run, save for one, issued wonderful reviews. But those opening nighters - ridiculous. Not even a bloody preview.
Having to design a set that then has to store in a tiny space is something every show should have to do. But, they don't. Some shows truck their set to a storage facility. Level playing field? I don't think so. When Roller Derby moved out of St. Clements that allowed other shows to get in early (paying to do so, of course) and get at least a few hours of tech time in. That happened to us, although we could ill afford it we did it - of course, NYMF didn't have a sound guy there, so that part was a complete waste of time - lack of communication on their part - they apologized - they didn't refund any dough. We did get to write a few light cues, though, so that was good. However, by the end of our run, one moving light was completely broken (a key one, too) and every other scroller was screwed up, gel-wise, so that on our closing performance most of the lighting design had no color at all. Level playing field? I don't think so.
As to what shows benefitted from being NYMF favorites, clearly the shows at the original press conference did, and it is disingenuous to say they didn't. Many shows had stars that had Broadway leading role credits, including mine. But they chose what they chose and the other twenty-two shows be damned. The other shows that benefitted from NYMF's selective generosity, were, of course, the early sell-outs, like the underwear musical. But, let's look at that - instead of promoting the shows in the bigger spaces that weren't selling out (especially the late-afternoon matinees), they just continued to brag about those early sell-outs without stating the obvious reason for them - all the early sell-outs were in theaters with only sixty to seventy seats to sell (because NYMF holds back between twenty and thirty tickets for their own use for every performance). Well, for example, if we'd been in that size theater then we would have sold out all but one of our shows. The shows that sold out frequently had their producers purchasing blocks of tickets in order to sell out and get the publicity and also the added performance. In our case, I didn't give a crap because adding a performance was simply not going to happen, because it didn't interest me in the least.

Well, after dining on Indian for lunch.....oh, a very handsome Sikh with a blue turban came in to get some food to go while we were eating...Jim and I went to an estate sale and then I decided to go and get the TV I have been looking at..a nice 42 inch Toshiba LCD with 120 Hz something or other that makes things no so blurry when there is fast movement of the camera pans across the countryside...

As for NYMF...
While I was having dinner tonight at West Side Cottage II, I happened to be sitting next to some of the participants in this weekend's NAMT (http://namt.org/default.aspx) Festival of New Musicals. *I was only semi-eavesdropping since I knew some of the guys at the next table...
Their biggest complaint about NYMF is that it runs right after the New York Fringe Festival, and at the same time as the NAMT Festival of New Musicals. Both The Fringe and NAMT have been running longer than NYMF. One of the director's sitting next to me happens to be on the "reader" list for both NYMF and NAMT. He said he lost count of how many scripts and scores he went over earlier this year after his 80th one. -And since some of the shows were submitted to both festivals, he had to read some of them twice due to the different "report cards" and the different deadlines for each festival.
He also happens to be with a pretty prominent regional theatre that actively seeks out new material. After Monday, he's going on vacation for two weeks since over the past three weeks he's gone to 20(!) NYMF shows, as well as the eight musicals that are presented at NAMT this weekend. Thatsa lotta musicals! And a lot of material to digest, judge, analyze, pick from, etc. -He didn't even attempt to catch any of the Fringe shows this year due to the burnout factor.
We also talked about the general lack of "buzz" this year for NYMF. We all seemed to agree that it seemed sort of a low-key year for NYMF, even though there were some potentially high-profile projects. None of us had any real reasons for lack of buzz. Although, one of the guys did think that a bunch of die-hard NYMFans have become Fanadus, Spring Awakeners, and Legally Blondettes this year. The "kids" weren't spending their $20 bucks to see a NYMF show, they were waiting in line all night and day for the student rush seats at The Helen Hayes, O'Neill and Palace. Some people also thought that NYMF's "warning" that some shows would sell out to members before the tickets went on sale to the public ended up making some people just not want to try to get to tickets since "high demand" usually means "craziness" in some form or another. I, for one, would like to know if any shows did come close to selling out before October 1 when the public tickets sales started.
I'm glad I was able to catch the NYMF shows I did this year. Do I wish I had seen a few more? Yes, of course Could I have? Possibly. Alas, due to my commitments to A Chorus Line and Mary Poppins, I saw shows when it turned out I ended up with a free afternoon or evening, and when I wasn't so tired or braindead after a rehearsal or show. I hate going to see a show when I know I can't be a "good audience member". Did I miss seeing a bunch of friends in colleagues in shows? Yes. Are they made at me for not getting to their show? Well... I hope not. If anything, I know they understand that in our line of work, that the hardest thing to do is see your friends in shows since you're usually working your own show at the same time.
End of rambling. :)

I don't know what I was thinking... I should have brought him along last weekend
Oh well...next year!
-
Oh... One more NYMF observation...
My friend, Mark, who ended up at The Last Starfighter on Friday afternoon with me, said he was "surprised" that NYMF was happening this year. Surprised? Mark is someone who takes his "culture" seriously. He attends the TriBeCa Film Festival, NewFest LGBT Film Festival, the opening week of the spring repertory at the Met, Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center, etc., etc., etc. -And he's fortunate to be in a position where he will actually take a week to ten days off from work to catch as much as possible during those festivals. (He gave up on the Fringe Festival years ago when it just became too big a venture to cover in 10 days or less.) Well, he didn't catch drift of NYMF this year until it was well underway. Yes, there were ads on the phone booths and trash cans all over town, but he didn't realize it had started up until he saw, of all things, the ad for Roller Derby in the Times. How "ironic" is that? -If "ironic" is the correct word to use here.
Admittedly, he doesn't check out sites like Playbill.com and Broadwayworld.com each and every day, so... But he also did not see much advance coverage this year of NYMF in the New York Times. Nor did he recall seeing any major display ad for NYMF itself. Does anyone know if NYMF took out an ad in The New York Times this year?

I too, was expecting you to say that you had appendicitis though - your syptoms mirrored mine when I had it...did they absolutly rule it out?
I can't help myself ;D I used to also confuse the two.
Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis & results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed.
So, except possibly Edi at the moment, all our relatives currently have diverticulosis.

A cortisone shot, a "Z-Pak" and a nasal spray... and I am doing better... I wish I had tommorrow off - I could use the rest bit I donlt think calling in sick would be appreciated. I can just hope he decided to let us go early of hears me coughing and decides to send me home
Goodess, that is some rather strong medicine's.
BIG VIBES YOU ARE BETTER SOON!
I'm curious, was the problem determined from blood work or x-rays or just from listening to you?
-
No, but everyone knows Federal Way is so much more happening than Tacoma.
Not yesterday it wasn't!
-

Hmm.. So a nasal infection?
As for tomorrow, couldn't you just don an Italian accent and say you're going to the Columbus Day Parade? ;)
-
So, now I'm doing laundry. -And that was an easy decision to make.. mainly because I need clean underwear and other clothes for the week ahead.
Clean underwear is a very good thing....I'm washing mine right now
-
Clean underwear is a very good thing....I'm washing mine right now
And once my underwear is clean and dry, then it's time for the socks.

DR MBarnum - So... You got the LCD TV at an estate sale? ???

Oxycontin is the time-release form of oxycodone
http://alcoholism.about.com/od/oxy/a/oxycontin.htm
OMG! Hillbilly heroin!
I don't think I'll be taking that!
-
A friend who always invites me out to eat when he is broke, asked me to go to Panera tonight because he wanted a big salad. Knowing he wouldn't ask me to pay unless I was also eating, when he called I said I had eaten at home to save money, but planned to join him and have and ice tea. He decided he didn't want to go after all, LOL
He invites you out, so that you can pay? How does that work?
-
OMG! Hillbilly heroin!

Will doo!
O dio mio!! ;D

Again...
Like an Easy-Bake Oven.

Check your connections.
My euph-o-meter is flashing!
-
DR Edisaurua - YEESH! Get well and feel better SOON!
DR Vixmom - same to you!
DR td - glad your work day from hell is over!
bk, GREAT news about potential licensing for The Brain!!
DR MBarnum, congratulations on your new arrival!
-
No NYMF show sold out prior to October 1st.
-
The last performance of Starfighter was received rapturously by a capacity audience. I hate to sound like a broken record, but again I was blown away by the sheer professionalism of the writers, cast, and crew.
I haven't seen the movie yet, so can't comment on DR FJL's adaptation, but the storytelling sure worked for me. I already knew Skip's score, but it was such a delight to see and hear it performed live. I got to speak with Fred and Skip briefly, as well as finally meeting the lovely DR Julie, who did a magnificent job.
Bravo and Brava to all, and to ALL of the HHW NYMF participants!
-
Thanks for the report DR SINGDAW!!
-
I am working on Monday and Tuesday, because sister Molly comes in from Seattle on Wednesday.
Wedding music rehearsal on Wednesday night.....wedding rehearsal on Friday night with rehearsal dinner....and wedding on Saturday.
Exciting week ahead around here....once Tuesday is passed....LOL
-
DR MBARNUM must be working on his new TV.
-
JRand, I hope the wedding is perfect! And it gave Molly a reason to visit you. :)
-
He invites you out, so that you can pay? How does that work?
Well, it's just how he is and everyone lets him get away with it. He's the poor starving artist, who happens to be so busy with commissioned work that he complains about it. When he starts doing it with me, I just say no to getting together. Then he miraculously has the money to pay his share.
-
JRand, I hope the wedding is perfect! And it gave Molly a reason to visit you. :)

DR MBarnum - So... You got the LCD TV at an estate sale? ???
I want to know if that is the end of the story about the good-looking guy in the blue turbin? Is a blue trubin anything like a red hankie in the back pocket?
-
Jose, but it was an interesting ramble-thanks.
Although if you had broken it up more, we'd be much further along! :)
-
No comment. :-X
I think that would be different in your case, Jose. I don't think there was any suggestion of sex in Cillaliz's story.
-
I too, was expecting you to say that you had appendicitis though - your syptoms mirrored mine when I had it...did they absolutly rule it out?
Isn't your appendix on the right side? That's what Greg thought, anyway...
-
I hope your cough gets better, Vixmom.
Do you need some Vix Vapo rub?
-
Isn't your appendix on the right side? That's what Greg thought, anyway...
Yes.
-
Goodess, that is some rather strong medicine's.
BIG VIBES YOU ARE BETTER SOON!
I'm curious, was the problem determined from blood work or x-rays or just from listening to you?
he looked into my ears, nose and mouth with his little doctor doohickey he listened to my chest and back while I took deep breathes and he watched me bend over and cough like I was trying to eject my lungs. Once the coughing spasm was over and my wheezing attempts to breathe commenced and while my face slowly lost it's purple complexion he suggested the medicine mix.
I am still coughing liek crazy but not wheezing so much and the nasal spray has made breathing much easier
-
I think that would be different in your case, Jose. I don't think there was any suggestion of sex in Cillaliz's story.
Not with me...now if he had gone out with you or Jose or....well who knows ;)
-
Not with me...now if he had gone out with you or Jose or....well who knows ;)
Not if I have to buy dinner!
-
Isn't your appendix on the right side? That's what Greg thought, anyway...
wellit's supposed to be on your right side... mine turned out to be on the left.. although the scar is on the right side becasue that's where they expected it to be....this was back in 1967 before lasoscaptic surgery and CAT scans and all the rest...
basically I had the choice between biting on a leather belt, being hit on the head witha mallet or taking laudeum
-
Not if I have to buy dinner!
Have you seen a picture? You might even be willing to cook dinner!!!
-
Not if I have to buy dinner!
Well, unless he looks like Brent Barrett or Del Monroe.
-
Have you seen a picture? You might even be willing to cook dinner!!!
Why would I want to do that to someone I like?
-
DR VIXMOM if your doctor listens with his doohickey, he better go back to medical school.
-
Well, unless he looks like Brent Barrett or Del Monroe.
LOL, let's just say, if that's the standard....it's back to "Not if I'm buying dinner"
-
GET WELL VIBES TO VIXMOM, GINNY AND ALL THAT NEED THEM~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
DR VIXMOM if your doctor listens with his doohickey, he better go back to medical school.
no he listens with his stethoscope ... he looks with his doohickey
-
You know we've mentioned underwear several times tonight....where is DR Sandra????
-
DR Vixmom, I hope you get better real quick!
(I know something that would cheer you up- hint, hint).
-
no he listens with his stethoscope ... he looks with his doohickey
Can you post a picture of said doctor's doohickey?
-
I want to know if that is the end of the story about the good-looking guy in the blue turbin? Is a blue trubin anything like a red hankie in the back pocket?
That was the end of the story. His wife and sister in law came in shortly afterwards.
-
I hate my new television set. That is all.
-
I'm guessing she is out with Dear Reader Laura.
-
MBarnum, I'm so sorry. You can return it-yes?
-
Feel better vibes to all of you who need them, sadly too many to name right now as I have to say....
'night.
-
I did get the DVD to show in color...however all TV stations look terrible and sort of fuzzy.
I went back down the the store but they were closing. However I happend to see the clerk who helped me and he told me I need to get an HD DRV box from Comcast. Is that correct? I am presuming that the one I have is not an HD DRV box. Besides I don't watch any HD channels...but I didn't know my regular channels like TCM and Game Show Network, etc, would end up looking like crap!
-
Did the doctor's doohickey look anything like this:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/minx_the_dog/Otoscope_beauty_med.jpg)
-
Everything looked so nice at the store. I think it was a mirage.
-
I don't know if I can return it or not DR Jane. I am just soooo unhappy right now....$1799.00 worth of unhappy. :P
-
Grrrrrrrrrrr.....yes regular broadcast without an HD cable connection isn't great.
But it's a minor adjustment.....watch some DVD's until Comcast comes out.
-
I don't know if I can return it or not DR Jane. I am just soooo unhappy right now....$1799.00 worth of unhappy. :P
I'm so sorry for you. What is the unhappy brand name?
-
I suffered through the same thing for about a week before making the switch.
-
DR MBarnum - give it time.
Remember, the lighting in the store was not the same as your lighting at home, to begin with.
Then there's that precious, time-consuming task of calibrating your set until everything is pitch perfect colorwise for YOU.
Add in viewing distance, darkness of room. . .etc, etc and so forth.
It's not an easy "plug and play" type of investment, but once the time is invested and all the boxes are in place, you're gonna cherish that baby!
-
Have you tried watching local channels off air? If your TV has an HD tuner, you can get broadcast stations, I think.
But what do I know!
Don't give up....the hard part is over. You have it in your house and it's hooked up. Comcast will install everything for you when they come, like your HD box and your DVR.
-
Watch AOPP on that big screen and you will see...............
-
Yeah, when I got my HDTV, I was still with standard cable. . .about a month later is when I upgraded my Comcast box; when I bought Mum her HDTV, I made sure that an HD-cable box was picked up and installed on the same day. (I don't know if it's an option where you are, DR MBarnum, but here Comcast let me pick up my box at their nearest office and install it myself - something I hadn't done the first time around).
I know that DR MattH will have a lot to say on this subject as well.
-
I don't know if I can return it or not DR Jane. I am just soooo unhappy right now....$1799.00 worth of unhappy. :P
WHOA!
My guess is that, first, you should take a deep breath...
Then take another deep breath. :) Then...
I'm guessing that even though your new TV set is HD-compatible, there should be some way to hook a "regular TV" up to it. Maybe you need to make a house/phone call to DR MattH.
-
Grrrrrrrrrrr.....yes regular broadcast without an HD cable connection isn't great.
But even the DVDs don't look very good. Everyone is sort of out of focus. I just popped in my dvd of HOUSE OF USHER...Vincent Price and Mark Damon don't look so hot anymore.
The store clerk mentioned getting an Upconvert DVD player and using and HD cable contraption. I just don''t want to spend even more money and still having a crappy picture.
I just don't understand all of this. Maybe I am just doing in wrong.
-

Calling DR MattH... calling DR MattH...report to Portland STAT

This makes it easy....but I think COMCAST will do it for you when they install your HD box.

DR MBarnum - Is there a customer service number you could call? Heck, you could probably discuss Bollywood movies with the person on the other end of the line. ;D

Heck, you might have seen the person on the other end of the line in a Bllywood movie
Get your Teevee fixed and and an interview all in one call!!!

Are you on cable, Mike? Most cable carriers have a separate number for each of your regular channels in HD. They are usually somewhere about the 100 numbers. Have you looked for those? Wait a few minutes, Matt should be back on HHW.

Well I must hie me to the office in the morn so night night boys....

~~~~ EXPENSIVE TV WORKING VIBES TO DR MBARNUM~~~~~
-
We're home! Thanks for all the travel vibes, which worked quite well. Our flight was almost an hour late leaving LGA, but only slightly late arriving in Cincinnati - do you think they built a potential delay into the schedule? Our connection to Dayton was only slightly delayed because we were waiting for the crew to arrive. We've been home about an hour.
-
I hate my new television set. That is all.
Blasphemy! Pure and simple.
-
Welcome Home, DR Ginny and DH Richard!
-
A cortisone shot, a "Z-Pak" and a nasal spray...
"I'll have what she's having" (a When Harry Met Sally reference)
DR Vixmom - we must have the same thing. My rib cage aches from so much coughing and I'm very short of breath. Fortunately, I'd already taken tomorrow as a vacation day, so I'll try to see the doctor. Hope you feel better soon!
And, DR Edi, I'm so sorry to hear about your diverticulitis. Be careful if you take the Vicodin - taking it following oral surgery several years landed me in the ER with much the same problem Callie had a couple of weeks ago :P
-
DR MBarnum, if you haven't adjusted any of the picture controls from the menu (contrast, brightness, color, tiny, sharpness), you're looking at it in dynamic/intense mode which is the absolute WORST mode you can possibly use.
Do you have any of the latest Disney/Pixar releases like FINDING NEMO or BEAUTY AND THE BEAST? These discs have a THX optimizer section on the disc that will help you dial in the color, brightness, contrast, etc. by following simple instructions.
But take the TV off dynamic mode first. Choose movie or theater mode (different TVs call it different things). Once you've done that, you can adjust brightness, color intensity, contrast, sharpness to suit your own taste.
NO TV STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX NOWADAYS LOOKS ANY GOOD.
-
Welcome Home, DR Ginny and DH Richard!
Thanks, DR Jose. Sorry we didn't get to see you again after the Brain gala.
I began my evening of viewing with MY NAME IS EARL. Much to my surprise, it was a gay-themed episode and very funny. I enjoyed it.
-
Thanks, DR Jose. Sorry we didn't get to see you again after the Brain gala.
Next time for sure!
In the meantime, should I send cookies? ;)
-
I spent the next three hours watching more MEDIUM episodes. Included in those I watched was the one where Allison woke up and was a totaly different person. This was a grand acting showcase for both Patricia Arquette and Jake Weber. A really riveting episode.
-
Ginny, I think they all build in time for delays. I've been early every time we took off on time and almost on time every time we've been 30 min or so later
Is this what DR MBarnum has just bought? It should dial in beautifully and look great. He just needs a guiding hand and some patience.
-
Next time for sure!
Aren't there laws against enabling across state lines?
-
Another MEDIUM episode brought back the wonderful Captain Push from Texas into the show. He always makes the show worthwhile.
-
And there was that heart-touching episode where Allison dreams that he youngest daughter dies from leukemia at age 20. Another memorable episode.
-
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES had its best laughs early with Carlos.
They have REALLY made Edie despicable this year. I know it's called "Desperate Housewives," but she pushes the term "desperate" to the farthest extreme.
-
Aren't there laws against enabling across state lines?
Not if the cookies are headed to Iowa. ;)
-
And BROTHERS & SISTERS had me in tears at three different times during the hour. Beautifully written show full of laughs and tears.
-
I did do a little calibrating. I had some Clint Eastwood western on the screen and used that in place of the Disney THX thing (as demonstrated on the link that DR JRand kindly supplied), which I don't seem to have..unless it is on Bambi...I didn't check that one. That is the only Disney cartoon movie I own.
99.9 percent of the stuff I will watch is not in HD tv...so what I need to find is how to make the regular tv shows and dvds look at least as good as they did on my old tube TV.
The guys at the store did mention something about replacing the componant cords with composite cords...or vica versa...does that sound like something I should need to be doing??
-
Well... After a couple of e-mail exchanges over the past couple of hours, I have all but one of my scheduling conflicts worked out for the week. And what a week it's turning out to be! I am off tomorrow, but the rest of week is booked solid. Hopefully, after some phone calls tomorrow, I'll have the other conflict worked out too.
-
Is this what DR MBarnum has just bought? It should dial in beautifully and look great. He just needs a guiding hand and some patience.
Yes, I bought the Toshiba 42 inch with 120hwz (or something) which is supposed to make motion scenes much more clear and less blurry...although I have not noticed that it does a very good job with that so far....maybe that is also a new cord thing.
-
Sorry to be such a drag tonight...just having buyers remorse...if I know for sure that replacing the old cords with the nice new fangled ones then I will be much calmer...and will not mind even putting forth the extra dough.
-
The three color cord for your DVD will help a lot, I have found.
I feel bad that I encouraged you buy it now....but I know it will be okay.
-
DR MattH - I'm not sure that's the exact set that DR MBarnum bought. I just Googled for a Toshiba 42" LCD TV and that's what came up. :)
-
Not if the cookies are headed to Iowa. ;)
LOL!
I've taken my Tylenol and Robitussin and now I'm going to bed.
'night!
You do NOT want composite cables. (Those are the yellow-red-white). That is the lowest level of video quality you can get. Component cables (blue-green-red) will give you beautiful image quality. You'll need separate cables for sound. If you're going straight from the DVD player into the TV, then you use the red-white for audio. Hopefully, you get your sound from a surround receiver.
-
DR MBarnum - Ya' know... For what you paid for your new TV, you could have come back to NYC this weekend for the South Asian International Film Festival. ;D
Seriously, just keep remembering to breathe, and take it one day, one step, one set of cords, one calibration at a time. I see some serious TV and DVD enjoyment in your near future.
-
I just checked, and BAMBI does that the THX optimizer on it if you decide you want to try using it. But you need to know where the picture controls on your setup menu are located before you try to use it (or any program that helps you dial in a good picture.)
-
DR Jose is right. Don't lose patience. The new set I bought two weeks ago is the THIRD hi def set I've bought in the last 9 years, and it still took me days of tweaking it to get the pictrue the way I wanted it.
-
I'll do a little writing and then I'll be heading down to bed.
Good night!
-
The three color cord for your DVD will help a lot, I have found.
I feel bad that I encouraged you buy it now....but I know it will be okay.
I did get that 3 colored cord. But some of the other cords I am using are the old ones...I have my DVR, DVD player, and DVD/VHS recorder all hooked up together.
DR NOEL....did SUCH GOOD FRIENDS mention McCarthy...or are audiences and reviewers just assuming that HUAC is the same thing?
We were discussing this at lunch with my mother (who cleared names for The U.S. Steel Hour and Matinee Theater): People often use a shorthand which, to the detail-minded, is imprecise: "McCarthy hearings" shouldn’t apply to the HUAC because McCarthy was a Senator, and his friends in the House ran the HUAC (it’s what the H stands for). Such Good Friends gets it right: McCarthy’s mentioned, at first, for going after an army colonel. When someone’s glum, towards the end of the show, he’s asked what happened to his jovial disposition, and answers “McCarthy.” The voice of the Congressman – he’s called “Congressman” many times by the characters being questioned – has a Southern accent, not McCarthy’s Wisconsin drawl.
The show merely shows what happens to a group of funny people who are in the business of entertaining America. It doesn't say why the HUAC exists, or who's responsible.
-
Aha! Well, I do have the Component cable connecting one of the machines to the TV...but, I am using the composite cables for one of the other machines.
I am watching the DVD of GHIDRAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER right now and it does look good.
I will do the THX thing with Bambi, thanks for your help MattH!
-
And thanks for the moral support JRand, Jose, TD, Vixmom.
I am sure by this time next week I will LOVE my new tv.
I am just more of a plug and play sort of guy, though.
-
And looking at the back of my DVR Comcast machine it does have a plug for HDMI....so I guess I have the HD capable machine...I just need that HDMI plug...which I will go and get tomorrow.
Because tomorrow is another day.
-
I am just more of a plug and play sort of guy, though.
That one is too easy. Way too easy. ;D
-
Well, Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan got rid of that evil Ghidrah.....oh, and I must say that the sound quality of this television is wonderful!! And I don't have any sound system hooked up to it.
-
Jose, you just made me laugh again. I thank you!! LOL!
-
Glad things are coming along, DR MBARNUM.....
-
Thanks, DR NOEL....interesting.
Oh my....Miss Frances Farmer was on Matinee Theatre....I wonder how she got "cleared"?
-
Time for to go to bed, since I have to work tomorrow.
-
well actually Mr. td.. i meant to mention since the Vixter has been so wonderful helping out while I am under the weather I said I had something wonderful, that someone wonderful had sent and she said wonderful and I said wonderful and it WAS!!!
You're welcome anytime
You're a good mother!
You've raised a wonderful daughter.
-
DR MBarnum - I'm happy that you're feeling better about the teevee, and that we at HHW have done our part in bringing a little color and light into your night. ;D
-
DR MBarnum - Well, I'm glad that I made you laugh. It's the least I could do, especially after you let me lead you into the Ramble in Central Park.
-
DR MBarnum - Well, I'm glad that I made you laugh. It's the least I could do, especially after you let me lead you into the Ramble in Central Park.
I'd post a memorable quote from the film CRUISING, but this is a family site. . .
-
Well.. I'm gonna do some reading and then head to bed. -This has been a sort of weird day for me, and I think it's time to call it a day.
Goodnight.
-
I'm done with movie watching - first watched a movie I TIVOd that I've always wanted to see but which disappeared instantly after its 1970 release. After that, I watched a DVD that I've had for heaven-knows how many years - truly one of the worst films EVER made.
George, I am curious why you went all the way to Federal Way to go to Trader Joe's, instead of stopping at the one in Tacoma. Is the Federal Way store larger?
Well...I've never been to the one in Tacoma because I don't know where it is. Friends of mine who have gone to it say that it takes just as long to get to that one as the one in Federal Way.
-
So, how do I get there??
-
Fred, Noel and BK, that's a great review by Peter Filichia! Congratulations to you all!!
Hello sorry tpo have been E & T, I have beenm feeling pretty miserable the past few days, I keep going into coughing spasms that leave me wheezing.... I called my doctor's offce yesterday morning and in the middle of talking talking to the nurse sudrenly was hit with one of those coughing fits... she hung onpastienly and when I could breathe again she asked. "How long has that been going on?" "Since Wednesday" "Can you come in right now?" I could and I did
NO MAIL OR BANKING TOMORROW REMEMBER!!!
I'm going to the movies! :D
I don't know what I'm going to see, though. My friend Margo and I will meet there and decide.
