ASK BK DAY!

Could you remind us of the full list (as it stands) for the November fundraiser; and the price of tickets to attend?

DR JRand - Frost/Nixon is much, much more than a "recreation" of the actual interviews.  It's everything leading up to them, and a bit of a post-script.  The interview segments comprise only about the 30% of the piece - and even those segments are embellished and commented on by the various players involved.  And just the way the whole production is put together with the cameras, the TV screens, the lighting and the sound design is masterful, not a misstep along the way.

I was most surprised by the humor in the piece, some genuine funny stuff.  The play is not just some dry commentary on the whole enterprise.  There is also some conjecture on part of the author, especially in the crucial turning point scene which propels the play its exciting, thrilling and sobering finish.

I'd say give it a chance if you ever get the chance.  Or at least give the script a read, which I think is available now for purchase.

Well, I do need to get ready to head to the theatre.  The equipment is turned on at 12:30, and I want to get as much pre-performance, last minute practice time in as I can, so...

I should be back in time for the fireworks.

Good morning, again. This morning I went birdwatching and saw very few birds. It's too darn hot (a Kiss Me Kate reference).

Dear Reader Laura (and DR Music Guy), how hot is it supposed to be at your house today?  I feel like I got out of Vegas just in the nick of time.

I'm glad you enjoyed Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular. I loved it. The setting and the effects are great.  I have a friend in the ensemble, and he arranged house seats for me.

They are saying 115F today. That's down from the 117 they were predicting a couple days ago.

Did you see any other shows, TCB? Did you think of me when you noticed the lovely casino carpets?

I did indeed, Laura.  I would have taken a few more pictures for your collection, but it seemed like every time I turned around, I had misplaced my camera.

No, I didn't see any other shows while I was in Vegas.  I should have gone to see THE PRODUCERS while Brad Oscar was still in the show, but it was just too warm to think of going back out in the evening.  I am not sure that I would enjoy seeing Tony Danza as Max.

The office is fine this morning.  I saw one of the realtors in our neighboring real estate office, and he confirmed that they were indeed broken into as well and that a laptop was taken. It was a bit creepy there alone, and I had my cellphone all set to 911 if I needed to make a fast call.  Now I am back and debating what to do with the rest of the day besides working on Kevin Spirtas' charts..

JRand56, Ruth Gordon's son Jones was born on Oct. 13, 1929, two weeks before the stock market crashed.  I read that section of the book on the subway back uptown.  She has three published memoirs, MY SIDE, AN OPEN BOOK, and MYSELF AMONG OTHERS. I also have her novel SHADY LADY, and she's written  several plays: OVER TWENTY-ONE, THE LEADING LADY, and YEARS AGO, which covers the same territory of her biography between age 14 - or so - through leaving Massachusetts for  The American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York. They're all handled by Dramatists Play Service.

I still feel spooked at the church after my experience, Elmore. And then last week when I was there, when I tried to set the alarm, and one of the windows was ajar, when it wasn't ajar when I unlocked a few hours earlier. We wonder if someone tried to leave a window open to break in later. I did see someone wandering around the property that day.

Ask BK:  BK, would you mind confirming with Tony that he got my package to pass on to Marsha and Norman?  Thank you very much (a Leslie Bricusse reference, bringing Christmas to July).

TCB:  great BB story!!  I'll never forget how excited I was when I met one of my idols, Sergio Mendes, backstage.  I of course just barged back there with no invitation.  Luckily Sergio's wife took an instant liking to Betsy and me, so we were back there for a good hour or so after the show.

I repeat my Ask DR question from last night:  anyone with any good downtown San Francisco hotels to recommend?  It's been so long since I was there I have no idea of what's downtown anymore.  And of course when I used to go there with my father the General, we always stayed at the Presidio anyway.

JMK, I met Sergio Mendes back in 1969, when he and Brasil 66 did a concert at CWSU in Ellensburg.  I was working for the college radio station at the time, so I got to meet all of the guest artists on campus.

Happy 4th, everyone!

It's a tad bit gloomy in New York today...and a cool 72 degrees, which makes me happy as I'm about to hie myself to a barbeque at a friend's house in Long Island City.

DR Jose: Great Book 2 Guitar/Harp vibes to you. I'm sure you will be just fantabulous because...well...you always are.

I happened to pop into A CHORUS LINE last night for a few minutes to see my friend, Jessica, go on as Sheila for the first time. So far, she's also gone on for Judy, Maggie, and Diana Morales. She said she was terrified last night, but you couldn't tell from her performance. I only stayed for "At the Ballet" and "Sing," but it was fantastic to see her go on. She and I did THE MUSIC MAN together in Louisville about 7 years ago - she was Zaneeta...I was the Quartet tenor (!) - and during sound check, she'd walk out and sing "Red Hot Mama" and dedicate it to me. :) Now she's on Broadway, where she belongs. Yay for Jessica!!

I'm very hungry right now. I haven't eaten since I had that coconut dream bar last night at 6:30. And I did another hour of yoga last night. I was so relaxed by the end of it that I actually fell asleep in the middle of the living room floor. I think I woke up at 4:30 and came to bed. It was faboo.

I am also uncomfortable after my experience of being stalked. Still a bit skittish at times.
