Good morning, all! I have a big day of writing on these Men's Chorus charts. My intentions in Ohio were good, but I did not accomplish there as much on the charts as I'd wished. Today I'm scoring "Let It snow." I'm also still waiting on a budget question concerning a vibraphone to finish a nearly-finished chart.
I did finish reading last week Seth Rudetsky's funny novel, BROADWAY NIGHTS, which I recommend to one and all, and I'm now in the middle of a mystery by Laura Lippman, WHAT THE DEAD KNOW. I've also noticed that now the taxes on the estate are paid and the Macbeths are no longer an essential part of my communication, I'm sleepng much easier.
TOD:
These pieces make me weep:
The finale of Britten's opera PAUL BUNYAN
Chopin Ballade in G-minor
"Nimrod" from Elgar's "Enigma" Variations
Barber's "Sure On This Shining Night" and "Knoxville: Summer of 1915"
These make me laugh:
Almost all Offenbach (always a big smile if not a big guffaw)
Bernstein's opera-bouffe CANDIDE
Several variations in Britten's "Variations on a Theme By Henry Purcell" aka "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra"
Prokofiev's "Lt Kije"
Shostakovich's arrangement of "Tea For Two"
Charles Ives' "Variations on AMERICA," especially in William Shuman's brilliant orchestration
