Dear neighbors. Stop screaming at your puppy. With that tone of voice, I wouldn't come to you either. Also, it just plain annoys the crap out of me.

Poor puppy.  Would you like a list of good training books to give your neighbor?

Not only did I think that Heath Ledger was brilliant in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, but I truly enjoyed his work in CASANOVA as well.
I've not seen NED KELLY or 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU.  It's been eons since I saw A KNIGHT'S TALE, and I didn't really care about it.

Such a tragedy for ex-wife Michelle Williams and their daughter.

I think I should explain that Fred Thompson didn't scare me politically...I haven't any clue what his political views are...it is just that when I would see him on TV lately he just looked scary!

I also made a quick run through the Essex Street Market.

I mainly wanted to check out where the "legendary" - and, in some circles, infamous - Shopsin's General Store had moved to - it used to be located in the West Village.

I also came across Roni-Sue's Chocolates - a place I will definitely be making a return trip (or two) to.  *Be sure to check out the "truffle selector" on her website.  :)

Who says he wanted to kill himself?  I'm thinking accidental overdose, myself.
Yes, but when there's a lot of stress, some things happen accidentally-on-purpose.

And, finally, (well almost) I stopped into The Doughnut Plant.  I haven't been down there in months, and during the interim, he's introduced two new Signature Doughnuts:

Chocolate Blackout - Chocolate Cake Donut, with Chocolate Glaze and Chocolate Cake Crumbs
Tres Leches - Like a tres leches cake, but just in donut form.

As soon as bit into the Chocolate Blackout, I was in L-O-V-E!  ;) And my L-O-V-E only grew once I started sampling the Tres Leches one.  Both of them were light and rich at the same time.

Oh... And I also picked up a Blackberry Filled-Peanut Butter Glazed Doughnut for tomorrow morning.  Well, actually, I picked up two of those since the guy at the counter gave me one for free since it was close to closing time.  :)

The Chocolate Blackout is the first one on the left in the second row.
The Peanut Butter and Jelly is the first one in the third row, and the Tres Leches is the third one in the third row.

A quick Google supplied these lyrics to the aforementioned.  Proceed only if you are very brave and have not eaten.

Well, you did warn us.  But it's too late...I clicked.

And I've just lost my supper.    :P

Dinner is oven-ing.  Or at least the taters are.

Very thinly sliced on the mandoline, then overlapping each other in a skillet, with melted butter brushed over the tater slices between layers.

Topped with Parm, and into a 400 oven.  Cook until crispy.

This will go with poached chicken breasts, and spinach wilted with sweated sliced mushers and shallots (seasoned with nutmeg).

Actually, A TIME FOR US (The love theme from Romeo & Juliet) was not originally an instrmental piece.  It was written for the film as WHAT IS A YOUTH, which is sung in the banquet scene.

What I don't get is he's found naked, face down & in Mary-Kate Olsen's place & no one suspects foul play.  ???

Thanks, Jose.  Fascinating!

When you said "infamous" and "West Village" together in the same sentence, my fevered mind was imagining something slightly different.  ;)

And the lunacy of declaring someone's career as being DEAD because he speaks out against the war is a sicko's attempt to shut people up and prevent them from expressing opinions (I don't think Alec Baldwin or Sean Penn ever noticed their careers were dead.

In the liberal atmosphere of Hollywood, I thought it was often the conservative actors, who speak out, who loose work.

In the meantime, the remodel of the store started today.

It turns out that my idea of heading in early was a good one.  I took notes on where the various goods had been moved, which helped several customers with questions.  (I also made a copy of my notes for Gail, who followed me on self-scan duty, which I hope helped her on the job... and I also hope she could read my notes.   ::))

There was one disgruntled customer who was railing against the changes, insisting that they would destroy the store and turn it into something from New England.   ???  He then turned against our store manager, Mark, blaming him for everything that is terrible about the store, and bemoaning how the former manager, Carol, "had" to retire.  (That Carol chose to retire, and that she had trained Mark for six years as her assistant manager before he was assigned to another (smaller) store as manager for a couple of years didn't matter to the complainer.

Some people just like to complain, I guess.  I just felt sorry for Mark, who took the abuse very well but still didn't deserve it.

Another *sigh*.

So...  Today's Culinary Creations started off with a stop at one of DR Jane's favorite places, Russ & Daughters.

I bypassed some of their sweeter offerings (halvah, babka, rugelach and macaroons), and opted for one of "Martha's (Stewart) Favorites":

The Heeb - Whitefish/Baked Salmon Salad and Horseradish Cream Cheese on a bagel.  -The Super Heeb gilds the lily with Wasabi Flying Fish Roe.  (Next time.)

It was quite dee-lish and most definitely appetizing.

Yuck ;D  You could have least had one small piece of halvah so I could eat vicariously with you. ;)

Der Brucer is watching the season two opener of Life on Mars.  I have no idea whether he understands the premise of the show as yet.  I'm not even sure I understand the premise of the show.
