Well, you've read the notes, the notes were warped and had speed, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're using warp speed and they're STILL not home - what's that about?

And the word of the day is: BENTHIC!

I don't believe I've ever seen Star Trek in any iteration, on television or at the movies. :P

Congratulations to DR dB on his new posting milestone!!! :D

I, like DAW, have never seen Star Trek. I may be a geek but, like many sub-groups, my geekiness exerts itself in only one or two areas and Star Trek was never one of those areas.
-
I enjoy Star Trek but was never a Trekkie.
Did not watch the last TV series and caught an occasional episode of Deep Station 9 (or whatever it was called) I preferred Babylon 5.
Most of the movies were good and others just okay.
That's about it
-
T.O.D.
I think I have seen every episode (or almost every episode) of the original STAR TREK series. If I didn't see some of the episodes on their initial run, I caught up with them over the years in syndication. I enjoyed the show, but I was never a fanatic. I watched a few episodes of ST, THE NEXT GENERATION, but was nevver much of a fan.
I have never seen any of the STAR TREK movies.

Good morning, all! I'm off to Toyland in a few minutes. It's time to clean up the office, put BABES IN TOYLAND to bed, and tidy up. After that, I'm back here for more Frank Loesser work.
DR Jose Holy Trinity Church, the Catholic Church across from me, became an Episcopalian Church, St Edgar's(?), in last nights L&O: CI episode. Leland Orser played the married philandering priest. I met Vincent D'Onofrio right after FULL METAL JACKET opened and he was very friendly and interesting. I understand he's a lt more of a handful now, but I would have liked to run into him outside my apartment. I think he's very talented. I think my freidn Rebecca knows Kathryn Erbe.
Okay, that's my news.
-
Although I've seen several of the movies and watched various episodes of the original TV series, I am really not a STAR TREK fan.
Not my thing.
-
Monday morning greetings! I left here abruptly yesterday because DH Richard woke up from his longer-than-usual nap and came to my study door complaining of chest pains. With his family history, we take that pretty seriously, so I called 911 and they transported him to our spiffy new hospital. It was determined fairly quickly that he did NOT have a heart attack, but our family doctor decided to admit him to see if they could bring down his slight fever enough to administer a stress test. The doc thinks he may have one of the flu bugs that's going around (not THE flu) and I think he's plain exhausted.
Fortunately, Rob and Mary Linda were still here, so Rob was waiting up for me when I got home at 1:30am. They were off to school at UC before 7:15 this morning, but I sure appreciated their help yesterday.
-
Wow, DR Ginny. :P
Glad to hear that DH Richard didn't suffer anything more serious.
***RECOVERY VIBES!!!!!!***
-
Thanks, DR DAW! I just talked to his nurse (after not being able to reach him by phone) and she said he's having his stress test right now. As soon as I get the vacation laundry under control, I'll head out there to see what's what.
-
Good morning!
A very cool, crisp morning, and it may inch up to 70 today, but if it does, it will do it just barely. I LOVE days like this. Beautiful, sun shining, but not hot, not even really warm. Just cool and delightful.
-
I had my semi-annual dental check-up and cleaning this morning. Happy to learn all is well. That's always a relief.
-
I watched STAR TREK off and on during its original run but was never what one could consider a real fan (though I had a crush on William Shatner back in the day for a time). In the years since, I have seen all of the episodes pretty much. Last year I had to review the third season box set of the show with the remastered special effects, and while many of the episodes were clunky and predictable, it looked gorgeous. I can just imagine how fabulous the show looks on Blu-ray.
-
As for the STAR TREK films, I've seen all of those, too. I had to review them all for the newspaper syndicate I worked for, so that wasn't an option. I always liked the even numbered films in the series (2, 4, 6) better than the odd numbered ones.
I saw all of the three NEXT GENERATION films, too (four if you count STAR TREK GENERATIONS), though I have only seen a handful of TV episodes of the show. Each of the NEXT GENERATION films is worse than its predecessor though all are reasonably entertaining, and they look great on DVD (the last time I watched them). I assume sooner or later, they'll come to Blu-ray, too.
-
ON TV Tonight!™
CBS - comedies (season finales), CSI: MIAMI (season finale)
NBC - DEAL OR NO DEAL (two hours), MEDIUM (season finale)
ABC - DANCING WITH THE STARS, THE BACHLORETTE (two hour season premiere)
FOX - '24' (two hour season finale)
CW - GOSSIP GIRL, ONE TREE HILL
-
Today I'll be working on the recent movie hit TAKEN which came out on Blu-ray last week. I was late getting it from Fox on Blu-ray, of course, but I should be able to see the film and watch the bonus features during the afternoon and evening hours. It doesn't look to be that long a film.

BK, like you I never watched the original series...though I think I may have seen a few episodes in re-runs. Not many. I saw the first two or three movies with the original cast. I never watched any of the other movies or TV spin-off series. Leonard Nimoy wanted to have a meeting with me to discuss writing the film he ultimately directed (at one point, his son was one of my lawyers), but I said I was the wrong guy for the job. My pal, Harlan Ellison, wrote what many consider the best episode of all time, CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER...and won the WGA award for it. I remember being at a birthday party for Harlan once (his 65th?) and was talking to mystery writer, Robert Crais. We both looked over mid-conversation to see Walter Koenig and Leonard Nimoy sitting at Harlan's dining-room table. Spock and Chekov. I turned to Bob and said, "Well, this is certainly surreal."
-
It would have been even more so had Chekov gotten up and done the Twist with June Wilkinson!
-
Congrats to DR JENNIFER and her new niece!!!
Recovery vibes to DR GINNY's DH RICHARD.
-
Thank you, DR JRand!
-
I wanted to love STAR TREK, but I didn't.
I don't think I have been able to watch a full episode. And I gave up even trying when they started going to planets with alternate realities of Earth civilizations such as Nazi Germany and the Old West.
I did however enjoy TNG very much....especially after it had been on awhile, and was then stripped at 11 p.m. each night on my local FOX channel. Hated Whoopi Goldberg's appearances....but other than that, still watch it now and then when it shows up.
Saw a couple of the movies - but didn't like the "reverent" and "important" tone of most of the ones I did see.
-
Thanks, DR DAW! I just talked to his nurse (after not being able to reach him by phone) and she said he's having his stress test right now. As soon as I get the vacation laundry under control, I'll head out there to see what's what.
DR Ginny, it's good news that DH Richard did not have a heart attack! And i know how he feels right now--just about two months ago I had a non-heart-attack attack myself. It was all due to stress but just going through such an occurance is stress-inducing itself.

Thank you, DRs Dan(the Man) and Jane!
Dan, I'm more and more convinced that he's suffering stress exhaustion. Hope to have that confirmed when we get the results of this morning's test. Have you fully recovered?
-
Scary experience with Richard, DR Ginny. Glad it wasn't the real thing!! Hope he is home soon!
-
I remember seeing a few episodes of Star Trek as a kid, and over the years have seen a few more episodes here and there. Have seen one or two of the movies, but don't recall which ones they were.
-
Thank you, DR MBarnum! Optimist that I am, I'm taking "coming home" clothes with me!
-
I still remember the first time I saw Star Trek. This was before I became a fan of science fiction & am surprised I watched the show without Keith. He worked nights as an assistant manager at movie theater near by. I called him at work excited about this fantastic show he must see. I talked about it so much he finally managed to get a long dinner break to watch it with me. Of course he loved it as much as I did & would manage a dinner break whenever possible.
We have enjoyed the following series as well, except for Deep Space.
-
TOD:
While I caught an episode here and there during the initial run, I wasn't a big STAR TREK fan until NBC began showing reruns. And even then, the real fascination didn't start for me until the syndicated reruns (I was one of those who went orgasmic when Paramount required that stations broadcast the show complete and uncut.) I was never a real Trekkie, though I did subscribe to the official newsletter for a time and I did build and display a model of the Enterprise.
I was bored with ST:TNG in the first season because it seemed only interested in rehashing the concepts of the original series, but as it began to develop its own personality, I gradually became a fan. But I could not get into any subsequent show--DEEP SPACE 9 seemed to have no focus, I dislike Kate Mulgrew too much to ever watch VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE just never entered my radar.
As far as the movies are concerned, I was bored with the first, enjoyed WRATH OF KAHN the most and was just okay with the next two but then my interest petered out. I'm pretty sure I never saw another ST movie after THE VOYAGE HOME.
-
Interesting to read the Star Trek comments. One wonders how it achieved what it achieved, because everyone I talk to mirrors the non-enthusiasm (save for a couple of people) here. I'll be curious to hear comments about the new film - I actually don't think it's ultimately going to do the business they're going to attempt to say it's doing. Usually folks here are a pretty good gauge of the must-go-see-them movies and there hasn't been a peep. And the less than half-house at the DGA was, to me, very telling.
-
I am sorry bk doesn't like the new Kirk. I like him! And I haven't even seen the movie!! ;)

Um...define "recovered".
:)
-
I'm up, and it looks like it's gonna be another hot day.
-
My problem with the new Kirk was what the writers did with the character, and the fact that the actor, despite his looks, is typical of today's generation of non-actors.

The trouble I have with the new ST movie is that everytime I see how young the new cast is I can't help but think: MUPPET BABIES.
-
Here's an idea for a sure fire hit TV series: THE NEW GOLDEN GIRLS. It would be just like THE GOLDEN GIRLS, but with hot twentysomthings playing the leads. Sophia would be played by an older actress--what's Mary Stuart Masterson up to these days?
-
Just had a call from DH Richard. He's back from his tests and waiting for lunch and a doctor visit. I'm going to sign off, go to the PO to get last week's mail, and head out to the hospital.
Bye for now!

Here's an idea for a new tv series:
The antics of a group of army laundry workers in Korea....it's called, of course:

Good luck at the Wilshire Ebell. I'm glad the theatre is still there; they have talked for decades of razing the place. I am happy to see they have not!

TOD:
I have seen about 2 or 3 episodes of the original series. Unfortuanately anytime I attempted to watch an episode of Star Trek (usually when sick or something), it was always those very same episodes. So, I saw 2 or 3 episodes of Star Trek about 3 or 4 times each.
Haven't seen any of the movies or the later series.
-
I don't believe I've ever seen Star Trek in any iteration, on television or at the movies. :P
First it was Steve McQueen films, and now Star Trek!
You're the Mike Barnum of the east coast!!!
-
I have seen every episode of Star Trek, the original series, every Star Trek movie, every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager. I have the complete Star Trek: Enterprise TV series on DVD and have seen probably 40% of those episodes.
That said, Star Trek has been part of popular culture for more than 40 years. While I find it difficult to imagine that something so much in the mainstream could be missed/ignored by anyone to the extent that they've never seen one movie or one episode of any of the shows, I have admit there are movie "types" I avoid like the plague, even when they show on TV.
-
DR MBARNUM - I have been to a couple of estate sales, but I don't visit them regularly. Here in farm country - most of what is on sale consists of tractors and plows.

I don't believe I've ever seen Star Trek in any iteration, on television or at the movies. :P
WHAT!!!! When I was in college we used to watch the reruns every day in the dorm. We'd guess who was going to be evaporated, but that was easy because there was always someone there who was expendable. We even made a movie in the hall where everyone ran to one side and the person holding the camera tilted it...just like on tv!
I've never seen any of the movies
-
I should say I was no Trekkie. We watched it and laughed at it. I wouldn't enjoy it with realistic effects

My favorite "Star Trek" movie is IV (Voyage Home). It's also my second favorite "Star Trek" score (the original Jerry Goldsmith score is my favorite).
Most film music fans who love the series HATE this movie AND the score, in my experience.

Me, neither, nor would I remotely qualify as a Trekkie. Wouldn't be caught dead in a costume at a convention...but I might go just to experience it.

It is currently F 60 here in Oakland.
This time yesterday it was F 81.
HUGE difference!!!

I had a friend growing up who was a total Trekkie. She had the outfit, the Enterprise, you name it, she had it. I wasn't into it, but how do you argue with "Live long and prosper"?
I didn't watch any of the TV shows other than the original. Wasn't Lost in Space on at about the same time? Now I loved that "DANGER WILL ROBINSON!"
-
It's a beautiful day here. I walked over to what passes as a deli in Iowa for lunch and could have stayed outside all day. My window is open and the breeze feels great.

I have seen bits and pieces but not enough (for me) to say that I saw Star Trek. I never saw the movies or any of the other television spin offs.

It's chilly in Manhattan but tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful. We will be going to Long Island for the Memorial Day weekend and, of course, Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be rainy. Oh, well.

It's supposed to get down to a brisk 92 degrees by the end of this week. I hope I haven't packed all my sweaters away!

BIG time LOST IN SPACE fan here. Loved it all, from the initial serious and scary first episodes right on through to the space hippies and carrot man of the third and final season (though I didn't like Penny Robinson's young teen-age dress in the third season. Whay would a young girl in space suddenly elect to start wearing a dress and putting her hair up? To attract Don? Forget it, honey--you sister's got that one!)

My other new idea for a TV series: a bunch of old white economists perform skit and blackout comedy --
The McLaugh-In Group

You mean this one? The three of them are looking pretty friendly here ;)

That's 2 [two] "Feh!"s.

At least, it's a beautifully sunny and cool(er) day here in Richmond - mid-60s. I believe I'm going to head out and take a nice walk in Carytown. Steve told me that one of my favorite stores, Lane Sanson, closed up shop rather abruptly in April. I want to go by and say Goodbye in person, I guess.
The Richmond Men's Chorus, which Steve plays for, is also giving a preview of their Spring concert tonight at 7:00, and I may head to that, and then stick around for the usual post-concert dinner with the "Mens". Otherwise, it's just going to be a day of resting and recovering and doing laundry. And I believe I'll be heading back to NYC tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.

As for the Topic of the Day...
I believe I may have watched or semi-watched every episode of the original "Star Trek" series over the years. It was just always on at one point or another. The same goes for "TNG". Channel 20 in Washington, DC, would show blocks of "Star Trek" and "TNG" twice a day once "TNG" hit syndication. And I know I watched a smattering of episodes of "DS9", "B5" and "E".
As for the movies, I'm pretty sure I saw the first two in the theatres. And I know I saw the one with Donna Murphy in it. But that's about it.
*I shall save my Wil Wheaton story for another day.
-
I moved my portable AC unit into the living room over the weekend and stayed cool that way (along with having my balcony umbrella open to deflect the sun and my curtains drawn to deflect light).
At night, it cooled off sufficiently for me to sleep comfortably with only three fans circulating the air in my bedroom (one in the window blowing air in, one on the floor moving air up and one in the door moving air out).
I have ordered an industrial-strength oscillating fan to set up on those hot days when air movement is critical in my condo. Even when it cools down at night, vast pockets of warm air seem to pervade. I went 'em gone, I tell ya....GONE.

Yep, that's the one. And I guess Penny got that dress workin' it for her after all...

DR Druxy, I am so very sorry about little Cody. Please take care. :'(
-
The original Star Trek was a bit dated by the time I was old enough to see it in syndication. I admit I've seen quite a few episodes, but only out of boredom.
But I LOVED Star Trek TNG. I'm pretty sure I've seen just about every episode at least once. It reminded me a lot of the "Fantastic Four" cartoon I watched as a kid. Several of the cast were like superheroes with their own special abilities: Deanna Troi was the psychic, Geordi had that super eyesight, Data the android could compute stuff really fast, and Worf was the warrior (the last one wasn't much of an "ability" but you get the idea). So, I assumed I'd love Deep Space Nine, and I did enjoy some of the episodes - the pilot was especially good - but it never grabbed me the way TNG did. And Voyager was a complete snooze.
-
I don't think I have seen DR derBRUCER and DR SWW for a couple of days....or am I wrong? Again?
-
Tonight we are doing Kiss Me Kate, Act One - music and dance only.....could be interesting.
-
Condolences from Skip and me to Druxy and family
-
I must speak up as the one Trekker--not Trekkie, please!--in the crowd. I have seen every Star Trek episode and film, and although I am the first one to criticize their flaws, I love them all.
I adore Kate Mulgrew, and have played the album of her as Katharine Hepburn numerous times.
And yes, I even was Mr. Spock at a University of Wisconsin gathering back in the 60's, ears and all.
So there. Pfffft!

DR Ron Pulliam - Do any of the units in your building have Central Air? Or is your building "of a certain age"? Could you install a ceiling fan or two?
No, my building was erected in the early 1980s. No central air of any kind. Except for office buildings with sealed windows, A/C hasn't been a normal fixture in most structures here. That's because we seldom have excessive heat. My particular unit has full top-floor western exposure. The unit "bakes" during hot weather...and the heat has no natural means of escape. There is no "flow" through the house....all windows and my balcony door are on the western side. My entrance door faces north and a wall, so there's not really and "through current" accessible there, unless there's a nice gusty breeze. I can cool the place down really well under "normal" (or, what used to pass for the "norm") afternoons as the fog starts moving in. That requires a breeze off the bay. When it's HOT here, the breeze is off-shore...and it rolls in from the central, desert-like regions in volumes of billowing heat.
As for ceiling fans...myceiling is low...about 8 feet. There are no overhead lights, either, so there would have to be re-wiring. That's not something I want to do in a rental unit.
-
Had a very nice lunch, but the breezes were quite stiff and even though I was in a long sleeved shirt and jeans, I was unusually cool. I wish I had worn an undershirt under my shirt.
-
So much sadness today over at Facebook (and here). Two people I know have lost pets today. I've shared the "Rainbow Bridge" piece with both of them.
-
I watched all four seasons of ENTERPIRSE, but really only the first two seasons were really good. Then they started having these long story arcs that were dull, and then only the actors like Scott Bakula and Connor Trineer kept me coming back on a weekly basis.
It was also a BEAUTIFUL series to watch in high definition. I got my first HD set during the show's original run, and it and CSI were the two shows I must looked forward to each week to watch in HD.
-
When I got in from lunch, I fired up TAKEN on Blu-ray. The disc offers the theatrical and extended (unrated) edition. There's only about 2 1/2 minutes of difference between them. I suspect the violent scenes are a little less censored in the unrated cut.
Very fast paced thriller. Imagine what Jason Bourne would do if he were middle aged trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter, and that's TAKEN. It only ran 93 minutes, so it just flies by.
I really enjoyed it.
-
I had time to get through the bonus features, too. Not really all that much to offer. A making of documentary, shots at the premiere in Paris, some split-screen action scenes showing the actual filming and how it looked in the finished work. There were also two commentaries, and a pop-up OPS information window keeping track of the number killed, wounded, and how many geographical miles are traveled.
-
DR Druxy, I am so very sorry about little Cody. Please take care. :'(
I agree!
-
And I had time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest. Damien was in the previews but no sign of the boys.

~~~Vibes for DR Ginny's DH Richard!!~~~
Sorry to hear about Cody.
Some interesting TV renewal tidbits:
LIE TO ME has been renewed and will be moved to Mondays at 9 after HOUSE in the fall.
BONES returns to Thursdays at 8 where it will be followed by FRINGE.
DOLLHOUSE has been renewed and will remain on Fridays at 9.
COLD CASE has been renewed, but THE UNIT and WITHOUT A TRACE may not be.
GARY UNMARRIED has been renewed. OLD CHRISTINE and RULES OF ENGAGEMENT are very likely renewals. That means WORST WEEK definitely looks to be gone.
SAMANTHA WHO? has been canceled (they have 7 unaired episodes to burn off, presumably this summer).
-
I've written a draft of one set of liner notes (almost gave away the title), and will try to flesh them out a little. I'm just not one to do a plot recap and I've already written my say about the composer, so the notes are very short at the moment.
-
Now I have some writing to do, so I must hop off-line and get it done.
WBBL.
-
I just found that my new TV and receiver automatically upscale regular TV broadcasts - they look pretty nice now.
-
Listening to some CDs. My meeting has been moved up to 3:45 and I don't really need to do the walk-through. I was hoping we could meet somewhere more convenient than the theater, but that's where we're meeting.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page five.
-
Will we never get to page six?
-
I had some chicken tenders for lunch.
-
No packages and only Kritzerland bills today - they never seem to stop, those Kritzerland bills.
-
My pal, Harlan Ellison, wrote what many consider the best episode of all time, CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER...and won the WGA award for it.
Directed by our Bialystock's father, I might add.
-
Got your email, bk, and we'll send that guy the sheet music. Thanks for forwarding it.
-
Thank you everybody for your condolences and kind thoughts re: Cody.
-
I am listening to CDs and trying to finish these notes so I can move on to the next set, plus prep for the meeting.
-
Some interesting TV renewal tidbits:
BONES returns to Thursdays at 8 where it will be followed by FRINGE.
Hooray for FRINGE!
DOLLHOUSE has been renewed and will remain on Fridays at 9.
Hooray for DOLLHOUSE!
COLD CASE has been renewed, but THE UNIT and WITHOUT A TRACE may not be.
I can't say that last show surprises me being on the bubble. Last week's episode truly sucked.
SAMANTHA WHO? has been canceled (they have 7 unaired episodes to burn off, presumably this summer).
Never should have been resurrected without a complete overhaul.
-
Will we never get to page six?
Ummm...we might.
-
Richard passed his stress test with flying colors and is now home from the hospital with orders to TAKE IT EASY.
Thanks to DRs Cillaliz, Kerry, Jose, and George for the vibes that arrived while I was away.
-
DR Druxy - sorry to hear about Cody.
-
And thanks to DR Jane for the See-lightful package that was in last week's mail that I picked up at the post office! I needed a treat today.
-
HOORAY for the winner of SURVIVOR: TOCANTINS.
My favorite player of the season!!!
-
I have a See's gift certificate sitting here like so much fish - I need to go use it.
-
I had a spinach salad with chopped boiled eggs and chipotle chicken strips for lunch today. It was all tossed in a light dash of olive oil.
I've also consumed two bananas.
-
Yesterday, I bought four largish chicken thighs. I removed the skin, soaked them in buttermilk for about an hour and then fried them with a generaous Bisquick coating.
The two I ate for lunch yesterday were scrumptious. The other two are for din-din, along with two huge slices of an heirloom tomato I bought and peeled yesterday.
There may also be grilled asparagus. Depends upon my hunger level at the time.
-
SEE's gift certificates....YUM. The cure for the common everything, IMO.
-
I reduced my DVR cache from 74% on Saturday morning to 22% yesterday afternoon.
I now have the two-hour "Desperate Housewives" finale to contend with.
The rest of my cache is a slew of TCM movies. Among them is NO LONGER that bogus print that was a retitle of "Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder." UGH!
I longed for a modest 1951 British mystery and got a Columbia-Frankie Laine programmer. Yuckity-yuck-yuck!
-
I'm thinking about going for a walk along Lake Merritt.
The temperature is right, but I'm not sure about my mindset.
-
TOD - Richard and Rob got me into The Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise. The two of them went to 2 Star Trek conventions and I went to the second one with them. They came home from the first one with a sewing pattern for a uniform that was beyond my capabilities and just making the top almost gave my mother-in-law, an accomplished seamstress, a nervous breakdown. But, she pulled it off and with black sweatpants made a great Halloween costume for Rob that year (he was Geordi LaForge).
At the event I attended, George Takai was the special guest and Rob (then age 12) won an autographed photo of Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher) for answering the most trivia questions correctly on stage.
The Enterprise theme became Rob's "anthem" when he was in high school. He even used it as his signature music at his Eagle Scout court of honor. Hearing it still makes me cry (in a good, proud-mother sort of way).
The Voyage Home is my favorite movie, too, although I also like First Contact a lot.
Maybe this week, while we're taking it easy, Richard and I will go see the new movie.
-
Page 6 is looming.
It isn't looming as largely as it might, but I'm certain will get there sooner rather than later.
-
Cody died today.
Druxy, I'm very sorry to hear about this. :'(
Note to self:
I must remember to get out to the ballet more frequently...
Not many Star Trek fans were fond of that song as the main title for "Enterprise", Ginny. They wanted something along the lines of what Jerry Goldsmith wrote for "Voyager."
Still....it grows on you. And I'm a big fan of "Archer's Theme", which is the music written for the end titles of each episode.
-
Now we're gettin' some postin'.
Only three more to go.
Only two more to go.
Just one more.
I can make no guarantees at this point -- oh! no! No guarantees, not at this time -- about page 7.
I know, DR Ron, but as parents of a teenager we were heartened he was listening to and adopting lyrics like these as his theme:
It’s been a long road - getting from there to here.
It’s been a long time, but my time is finally near
And I will see my dream come alive at last. I will touch the sky.
And they’re not gonna hold me down no more
No, they’re not gonna change my mind
Cause I got faith of the heart
I’m going where my heart will take me
I got faith to believe I can do anything.
I got strength of the soul and no one’s gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star. I got faith. Faith of the heart.
For example, has edisaurus just left us completely?
-
This is someone who posted ALL the time and we loved having her here and she's just NEVER around anymore. I find it dispiriting, frankly.
I could name others, but why?
I believe Edisaurus has been very busy working on some projects and is, indeed, in Europe right now.
My good friend Ron is a huge Star Trek fan and his basement is FULL of Trekkie merchandise.
I am not sure why I never became a fan. I don't dislike the original series, just never got hooked on it like I did with other fantastic shows of that time like Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, and Mr. Ed.
-
I just today got the new 7 BD set of the original ST films, plus a bonus BD. Started up the first one--it's the theatrical cut, not the Director's Cut.
-
I do recall that a couple of Star Trek episodes did upset me greatly as a kid...I think some nice lady in a red shirt was turned into a tiny little square shaped thing and then a guy crumbled it/her into dust.
Yes, I've always considered Mr. Ed a sibling of TZ and OL.
DR Druxy, you have my deepest sympathy, so sorry about Cody
-
I am so sorry to hear about Cody, DR Druxy.
-
Ginny, I am glad Richard is ok. How scary it must have been for all of you.
My sister loved Star Trek; I didn't like it. As an adult, she went to many of the conventions. I did not.
-
Condolences, Druxy.
-
Topic of the Day: Star Trek...I love them all! I've seen all the series (the original series is the only one that I didn't see during the original broadcasts) and all the movies. Yes, some are better than others, and some were just not very good, but I really have enjoyed them all (as I've said before, my standards aren't that high 8)). Of course, I don't keep track of all the details and can never quote even the most quoteable lines, so I'm not one of "those" kinds of fans (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I have the original series, the animated series and all of the movies on DVD. I don't have TNG, DS9, Voyager or Enterprise on DVD. That's just overkill, if you ask me. ;)
:D
-
DR Ginny, glad to hear that all went well for Richard.
-
A Belated HOORAY for CHUCK, renewed by NBC for a 3rd Season!
(And with concessions that can only IMPROVE the show, IMO)!
-
Time to go water the garden and the new bushes I planted yesterday...and the new geraniums I bought yesterday
-
I may be mistaken, but we may be closer to page 7 than one would imagine.
-
Oh! Yes! At this time, I can speculate without fear.
-
TONIGHT------- DWS>>>>> the finals begin.....
-
Only a few more itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny pages to go.
-
DR Ron, I generally don't imagine page turns...they just are
-
I can practically SMELL page 7.
And that must be because this IS
PAGE 7
-
Yes, indeedy, DR Cillaliz, they ARE!
Now I find myself in the awkward position of, once again, telling poor BK that I cannot make any promises about Page 8.
Ron, I made a point of hitting the re-load button several times before posting, so as not to interrupt your song.
George, thank you for the VIBES on my washing machine, but they didn't work. Or maybe they did, depending on your point of view. The repair man gave me a quote of $479.00 to fix it...sheesh! Naturally, I could buy a new one for that. Mark and I are convinced that he worked the numbers specifically so I'd have to buy a new one. It probably was not the best idea to have Sears come out for the repair. Maybe I should have gotten a second opinion, but the hamper is very full now, so we picked out a new washer yesterday. With tax, delivery, hall-away-the-old fee, discounts, rebates, and coupons, the grand total came to $459.00. Sounds fishy to me. Anyway, it's being delivered tomorrow, but I doubt it will be nearly as much fun or gratifying as Bruce's new television.
I got to watch the Survivor finale but only up until they announced the winner.
I did not get to watch the Desperate Housewives finale yet. So i'm just trying not to read/hear about what happened. I won't get to watch the Medium finale. Or One Tree hill finale, or gossip girl finale for a few days.
I'm hoping my niece will watch DWTS with me. Although when i asked her if she'd watch it she said, "no thanks"
-
Ginny - Great to hear about how Richard is doing!
-
Cody died today.
Sweet Cody. My deepest condolences. It hurts too much when we loose our pets. Hugs.
-
*I shall save my Wil Wheaton story for another day.
It always bothered me he didn't go to the academy. I thought they could have done much with that in future episodes, during school breaks. Instead he ascended or whatever that was. I just didn't care for that
-
It hit 90 degrees here today. the average is 74....
-
I'm X's home opener (The Explorer's - our baseball team) . I had a lot of fun last year, my first game was their last game of the season. It's a whopping $14 for the box seats. I may do that or go for the reserved seats a little higher up for $12. What a deal
-
I've been cutting flowers in the yard and bringing them in the house. It's so wonderful to have fresh cut flowers to look at. They brighten up the room a lot
-
Ok, not as exciting as pick a little talk a little, but I did get some posts in for you BK
-
OH, Edith told me that her neighbor has 30...count them 30 rhubarb plants and he told them they could have all of it they want to have! I took her the strawberry rhubarb bars today and she said she'll bring me a whole bunch of it tomorrow. I hear it's very easy to freeze, so that's my plan.
-
I must speak up as the one Trekker--not Trekkie, please!--in the crowd. I have seen every Star Trek episode and film, and although I am the first one to criticize their flaws, I love them all.
I adore Kate Mulgrew, and have played the album of her as Katharine Hepburn numerous times.
And yes, I even was Mr. Spock at a University of Wisconsin gathering back in the 60's, ears and all.
So there. Pfffft!
How fun. I would liked to have gone to one of the early conventions.
I enjoyed Kate Mulgrew as the captain. Keith often complained.
-
I watched all four seasons of ENTERPIRSE, but really only the first two seasons were really good. Then they started having these long story arcs that were dull, and then only the actors like Scott Bakula and Connor Trineer kept me coming back on a weekly basis.
It was also a BEAUTIFUL series to watch in high definition. I got my first HD set during the show's original run, and it and CSI were the two shows I must looked forward to each week to watch in HD.
We couldn't watch the series when it first aired as our local station was simply too fuzzy. When we watch on hi-definition we thoroughly enjoyed the show & were sad it hadn't lasted longer.
-
Richard passed his stress test with flying colors and is now home from the hospital with orders to TAKE IT EASY.
GREAT NEWS!
Good Evening!
-I'm trying to remember how long it took to get over the jet-lag I had when I flew back from Australia back in 2003... However, I seem to remember not having much jet-lag at that time... ??? Moving on...
-
DR Sam I hope you are pleased with your new washer & find it an improvement over the old one.
-
DR Sam, I think a new washing machine would be quite wonderful...hope you like it
-
RE: Kate Mulgrew - I often see her at the Starbucks at 67th & Columbus (just around the corner from the Lincoln Square Cinemas). And the couple of times I've dined at Ouest, I've seen here there too.
*I've also wondered if Kate Mulgrew and Tovah Feldshuh have ever played sisters on stage or on screen.
-
DR Amy - Happy Laundering!
-
DR Pulliam - It's almost 5:00pm (your time)! -Although, I'm guessing your 5:00pm is probably 3:30, 4:00 or 4:30.
-
I do recall that a couple of Star Trek episodes did upset me greatly as a kid...
You know the episode of TNG where a probe enters Picard's brain and he lives an entire lifetime on a different planet in 26 minutes? That episode made my ex-husband cry every time he watched it...as an adult. By the third time, he announced at the beginning of the show, "I think I'll be okay this time." He wasn't.
-
Hello, everyone.
Vibes of comfort to DR DRUXY.
GOOD HEART HEALTH vibes to DR Ginny's DH Richard, to DtM, and to ALL DRS!
-
Yes, I felt yesterday's earthquake. It's epicenter was only a few miles away. It packed quite a jolt here.
-
Semi-random observation...
I was checking out the reviews on Yelp! for some of the restaurants that have recently opened here in Richmond. There is one reviewer who bases his star-rating of each restaurant on whether or not the restaurant serves sweet tea. Consequently, some very middle-of-the-road diner gets 4 or 5 stars, while a nice, high-end French bistro gets 1 or 2 stars.
FEH!
-
DR Jeanne, I thought if anyone felt it, you would have.
-
Yes, I felt yesterday's earthquake. It's epicenter was only a few miles away. It packed quite a jolt here.
Welcome back to California, DR Jeanne!!!
;D
I don't think I have seen DR derBRUCER and DR SWW for a couple of days....or am I wrong? Again?
derBrucer posted yesterday and SWW a few days ago.
-
And thanks to DR Jane for the See-lightful package that was in last week's mail that I picked up at the post office! I needed a treat today.
:) I'm glad the timing was perfect.
There was a See's kiosk at the Detroit airport. However, they only seemed to carry the medium to large boxes/assortments. If they had carried some of the individual bars or lollipops, I might have bought something.
I always seemed to see that episode too. Of course, I used to think that those "little square shaped" thingies - which I think were more like "little octahedron shaped thingies" ;) - looked like really dry cookies. ...That's the why the cookie crumbles...
*I also seemed to tune into the one "TNG" episode where whats-her-name died in that tar-pit looking thingy. ;)
-
Yes, I felt yesterday's earthquake. It's epicenter was only a few miles away. It packed quite a jolt here.
Welcome back to California, DR Jeanne!!!
;D
Yeah, welcome back is right!
But WELCOME BACK to you, Jose--to the US! I'm so glad you took your trip. It really sounded wonderful.
-
Thanks for the washing machine well-wishes, but why is everyone call me "Sam"?
As near as I can tell, the only improvement is that I'll now have 4 different water temperatures, instead of three. For dark clothes, I would often start the machine on warm, add the clothes, and then change it to cold in order to mix my own water temperature. With the new "cool" setting I guess I won't have to do that anymore. Okay, this is really really boring, so I'll stop talking about it now. The Star Trek discussions are waaaay more interesting.
-
Thanks for your continued vibes, DRs Laura, Cillaliz, Jennifer, FJL, Jane, and Jeanne!
-
My sister loved Star Trek; I didn't like it. As an adult, she went to many of the conventions. I did not.
How is your sister feeling?
She is doing ok. She will be glad when all the treatments are over. She had one last week and two more to go.
I must tell my other WELCOME BACK story.
A couple weeks ago i was on my way to Whole Foods Market when I passed what looked like a New Age pharmacy in West Hollywood. Since I was in need of a high-potency homeopathic remedy not available at most health food stores, I stopped in. The presence of a security guard puzzled me, but I proceeded. No, they did not have the remedy I was seeking. Then they explained that this was a pharmacy for medical marijuana. Ah! Now the security guard makes sense. My next thought, which I said out load, was, "Welcome back to California!"
-
Amy, even with four water temperatures, I found that WARM was almost as hot as HOT. Very little difference.
-
DR Pulliam - It's almost 5:00pm (your time)! -Although, I'm guessing your 5:00pm is probably 3:30, 4:00 or 4:30.
Ummmm.......huh?!?
My time is 5 p.m. -- or, more specifically, 5:19 p.m. Of course I'm still at work, where I've been since 7:30 p.m.
I've gotten a lot done today...including a lot of waiting around on other people to get stuff to me so I can finish what I've been doing.
This week's work tunnel seems long and dark, and I can't make out any points of light.
But know this: I WILL be taking Friday off.
-
When we lived in Michigan I only knew of one gourmet store that carried See's. After awhile they asked me for suggestions on what to order. I felt so honored.
I usually skip the Kiosk except for a box of mint krispys.
I read this one a few times, and each time it seemed you wrote, "I took her TO the strawberry rhubarb bars"....and I was confused. I also had a passing thought that you got her all lickered up and that's why she agreed to bring you a whole bunch tomorrow.
...oh...never mind. It's just where my head wasn't at that moment....
Spoo!!! -Corrected. ;)
Does your new machine have set water levels? or "infinite" ones? When my parents bought their new house and their new washer-dryer set-up, the washing machine only has three water levels: Small, Large, and Super. -Which basically breaks down to: 1 towel, 3 towels, and 10 towels. It's sort of weird - to me, at least - that a new-fangled washing machine would not have variable water levels.
Thank You, DR Jeanne - Now I just need to finish going through the almost 1000 pictures I took while I was in the Philippines and get the uploaded to Flickr and/or Facebook.
*And if I find myself still wide awake later tonight, I may just go ahead and make some headway on that front.
I must speak up as the one Trekker--not Trekkie, please!--in the crowd. I have seen every Star Trek episode and film, and although I am the first one to criticize their flaws, I love them all.
I adore Kate Mulgrew, and have played the album of her as Katharine Hepburn numerous times.
And yes, I even was Mr. Spock at a University of Wisconsin gathering back in the 60's, ears and all.
So there. Pfffft!
How fun. I would liked to have gone to one of the early conventions.
I enjoyed Kate Mulgrew as the captain. Keith often complained.
I remember reading after "Voyager" premiered that Geneviève Bujold was originally cast as Captain Janeway, but shortly after they started filming, she quit. I don't remember why.
According to IMDb, "Many well-known actresses were considered for the role of Janeway including: Nicola Bryant, Lynda Carter, Joanna Cassidy, Patty Duke, Chelsea Field, Erin Gray, Linda Hamilton, Carolyn McCormick, and Lindsay Wagner."
I also liked Kate Mulgrew as the captain. :)
I do recall that a couple of Star Trek episodes did upset me greatly as a kid...
You know the episode of TNG where a probe enters Picard's brain and he lives an entire lifetime on a different planet in 26 minutes? That episode made my ex-husband cry every time he watched it...as an adult. By the third time, he announced at the beginning of the show, "I think I'll be okay this time." He wasn't.
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of any of the series. :)
-
Well, I need to leave work early. At my condo complex, we're having our annual home owner's association meeting. Since it's only once a year (any some important things need to be voted on), I feel I should be there.
Until later!
Hmmm, Linda Hamilton might have been good.
While I was out and about earlier, I did drive to Carytown, and I did go by Lane Sanson to say, "Goodbye", and to take some pictures of the papered-up storefront. -I never realized that the store had only been in existence for only 18 years or so. I thought it's existence had preceded my initial time in Richmond. -It was also a bit disheartening to see even more "Closed" and "For Rent" signs along Cary Street. Ah, the economy...
Druxy, so sorry to hear about Cody.
May I share the following by Robinson Jeffers with you:
Cody died today.
Druxy, my deepest sympathies to you and your family on the loss of Cody.
Ginny, great news about Richard's stress test. Hugs to you all.
-
Druxy, hugs to you on the loss of your Cody!
-
Ginny, glad to hear the news about Richard. He needs to sleep!
-
And I need to sleep. It's bedtime for this one.
Goodnight all.
See you around 6am tomorrow morning.
-
G'night!
DRUXY-
So Sorry To Hear About Cody
-
Bruce, did you receive my email?
-
Hi Arnold, sorry I'm leaving you alone.
'night
-
Had another great runthrough with Roger and Carmen tonight, who are both hysterically funny. We all agree that this is one of the weirdest rehearsal processes any of us has been involved in, what with our director an Angelino and only coming up for the last couple of weeks. We've been in pre-production now for well over a month, getting all the hard work done. :)
-
DR CP thanks for sharing the link.....
Between that poem and DR AMY's reminding me of THAT episode of TNG.....I need a crying towel.
I also enjoyed the TNG episode that featured a half borg/half man who was imprisoned on the Enterprise, but desperate to get out and try to live as a human......
-
I just today got the new 7 BD set of the original ST films, plus a bonus BD. Started up the first one--it's the theatrical cut, not the Director's Cut.
I am NOT sure what this means, but i think it's positively indecent!
And DR JMK you will never get my inscribed and autographed photo of Frances Farmer until they pry it from my cold, dead hands....
-
Page 10 Frances Farmer Autographed Photo Dance. ;D
-
I'm not sure, but I think Frances lost the battle of hair and makeup that day. Or maybe it was a draw.
-
Wonder what is showing on the tee vee?
MR BK is high def......and DR JEANNE was nearly "high" def as well.
DR JANE I forgot to say I liked your bear story and the bear pic that went with it yesterday.
-
"Sad to be all alone in the world." - Mrs. Meers.
-
I got to watch the Survivor finale but only up until they announced the winner.
I did not get to watch the Desperate Housewives finale yet. So i'm just trying not to read/hear about what happened. I won't get to watch the Medium finale. Or One Tree hill finale, or gossip girl finale for a few days.
I'm hoping my niece will watch DWTS with me. Although when i asked her if she'd watch it she said, "no thanks"
Well, you can breathe easier about MEDIUM since it was NOT the finale as I thought it was. The show still has TWO weeks left to run! Hooray!
-
MR BK is dropping hints about the new release....a composer about whom he has already had his say...and the film is available on DVD......
-
Well, I had the entire evening free so I thought it was time to start cleaning some of the DVR cache programs off instead of watching a movie or something from a TV box set.
-
I began by watching last night's THE TUDORS. Henry finally gets to see/marry Anne of Cleves. Not a match made in heaven although the actress they hired to play Anne was not in the least homely as other Annes have been portrayed. She might have been a trifle plump but her face was rather lovely, I thought.
-
Next I enjoyed watching LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. Yes, the instigator of the crime was very predictable, but it was still an enjoyable episode.
-
Next up was the season finale of THE OFFICE. I enjoyed the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE riff, and there were certainly some surprises and lots of fun along the way.
-
'24' was riveting as only it knows how to be, and a wide open cliffhanger to end the season.
-
And I thoroughly enjoyed MEDIUM tonight with Anjelica Huston, Balthasar Getty, AND Rumer Willis. And directed by star Patricia Arquette (who did a very nice job with the direction).
-
I'm going to do a little research in the office and then head downstairs for bed.
Good night!
-
Back from the meeting and a visit to Amoeba, where I took in a big box o' DVDs I no longer care about, need, or want to replace with their Blu-Ray counterparts. I got a great trade-in gal who gave me more than I thought I'd get - a LOT more. I got a bunch o' Blu-Rays and am watching Mamma Mia right now - I hadn't seen it before. It's fun.
This whole BK-Blu-ray adventure is just makin' me smile and smile.
High def! It's really SOMETHIN', ain't it, BK!!??!
When the transfer is top-notch, it's more than amazing. When the transfer is iffy, like Rio Bravo, it's still better than the DVD counterpart, but depressing that Warners so consistently gets it wrong. I've been very impressed with other studios' Blu-Rays though - especially Columbia on their few classics - the Bond films From Russia With Love and Goldfinger both look fantastic, while Thunderball is almost half-faded, color-wise, and a distinct disappointment. Very sharp, but very brown.
-
Hello from an errant and truant poster.
Having been side tracked by irritating and annoying things.
Of which I hope are over.
I'm looking forward to being cheerful again.
-
I loved all the Star Trek episodes. And the movies.
I believe there were maybe 10 of us, who camped out for the first movies.
Those days were really good, carefree enjoyment.
I'm amazed we never got in trouble.
-
As you can tell I still have not read the last 3 or 4 days of posts.
Another good night of sleep, and fewer things to do, would be nice.
I need to find an hour a night to sit at the computer.
-
It's time to say goodnight.
Have a really pleasant Tuesday.
-
I've listened to House of Flowers a dozen times already. I really like the songs.
-
Through checking out the new Blu-Rays - many winners and a couple of losers, like A Bridge Too Far, which is faded, brown, and really ugly.
-
And I thoroughly enjoyed MEDIUM tonight with Anjelica Huston, Balthasar Getty, AND Rumer Willis. And directed by star Patricia Arquette (who did a very nice job with the direction).
I didn't notice that Patricia had directed. I really enjoyed this episode. :)
George, thank you for the VIBES on my washing machine, but they didn't work. Or maybe they did, depending on your point of view. The repair man gave me a quote of $479.00 to fix it...sheesh! Naturally, I could buy a new one for that. Mark and I are convinced that he worked the numbers specifically so I'd have to buy a new one. It probably was not the best idea to have Sears come out for the repair. Maybe I should have gotten a second opinion, but the hamper is very full now, so we picked out a new washer yesterday. With tax, delivery, hall-away-the-old fee, discounts, rebates, and coupons, the grand total came to $459.00. Sounds fishy to me. Anyway, it's being delivered tomorrow, but I doubt it will be nearly as much fun or gratifying as Bruce's new television.
Sorry that my vibes didn't help, Sam. :-\ Hopefully, the new washer will give you years of trouble-free use!
Does anyone have an iPhone? Jesse Jones (a Seattle consumer advocate) did a segment on people whose iPhones got wet from sweat but weren't covered by the warranty...click HERE (http://www.king5.com/video/index.html?nvid=362941) to see and/or read the segment. It's quite interesting...and not a problem specific to Seattle. It's something that anyone with an iPhone needs to know.
Just had to share. :D
I moved my portable AC unit into the living room over the weekend and stayed cool that way (along with having my balcony umbrella open to deflect the sun and my curtains drawn to deflect light).
At night, it cooled off sufficiently for me to sleep comfortably with only three fans circulating the air in my bedroom (one in the window blowing air in, one on the floor moving air up and one in the door moving air out).
I have ordered an industrial-strength oscillating fan to set up on those hot days when air movement is critical in my condo. Even when it cools down at night, vast pockets of warm air seem to pervade. I went 'em gone, I tell ya....GONE.
DR Ron Pulliam - Do any of the units in your building have Central Air? Or is your building "of a certain age"? Could you install a ceiling fan or two?
No, my building was erected in the early 1980s. No central air of any kind. Except for office buildings with sealed windows, A/C hasn't been a normal fixture in most structures here. That's because we seldom have excessive heat. My particular unit has full top-floor western exposure. The unit "bakes" during hot weather...and the heat has no natural means of escape. There is no "flow" through the house....all windows and my balcony door are on the western side. My entrance door faces north and a wall, so there's not really and "through current" accessible there, unless there's a nice gusty breeze. I can cool the place down really well under "normal" (or, what used to pass for the "norm") afternoons as the fog starts moving in. That requires a breeze off the bay. When it's HOT here, the breeze is off-shore...and it rolls in from the central, desert-like regions in volumes of billowing heat.
As for ceiling fans...my ceiling is low...about 8 feet. There are no overhead lights, either, so there would have to be re-wiring. That's not something I want to do in a rental unit.
This is very much like my place...there's no way for the heat to escape from my top floor, where I sleep. I hope that my building is re-roofed soon, but I don't know when it will happen, but when it does, I'll get a new skylight that can open. THAT will be nice. ;D
It's too close to Page 11 for me not to go for it...
...and since we're finally here...
PAGE 11 DANCE!!
