some great music mentioned there Miss Karen.. Goodnight and I'm back.

DR Jose is awake. Perhaps he has been burning a copy of "I Need To Wake Up" by Melissa Etheridge.

For some reason Melissa Etheridge reminded me of Michelle Shocked. I like "Anchorage" - the song (I've not been there).

Oh, I guess I should do that for you.  However...

If you plan to re-burn, re-copy the song, you may find that the iTunes "encoding" may prevent such a thing from happening.  I think.  -Which is why I was asking if you were using iTunes.  *And I looked at burning the iTunes file as an MP3, but there's a built-in block that prevents me from doing that.  I'm sure there's a workaround, but I have come across it yet.  In any case...

I shall commence burning Melissa Etheridge and Chris Cornell shortly.

DR MBarnum - Is your DVR still set to record "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency"?  If not, I'd say make sure to record the rebroadcast.  Two words:  Aussie Bum.

No ipod household Jose. Thanks for your attempts - successful or not.  This is even a no microwave oven household.

As for Blood, Sweat & Tears - I still love their rendition of "God Bless the Child".  Those horn lines.  That great gravel in the voice.

Of course "speedoo" is not a reference to the song title from 1956. (the Cadillacs).  Not quite the same thing.

Well, it's not really an iPod issue.  *And you can have iTunes without having an iPod.  It's more of a sharing issue.  iTunes encodes the music purchased from the iTunes store.  Any purchase is basically only meant for the person who originally purchased said song(s).  I can burn a CD for you with the two songs.  However, if you wish to incorporate those tunes into another compilation, then that's where the problem may arise.  But, again, I'm not really sure about all the workings of iTunes, so... You'll at least have the songs.  They just may only 'work' on the CD I send you.

For an album from 1969 it has certainly stood up well. The album also introduced me to the work of Eric Satie.

Good question -- I'm not really sure what I've been doing, or not doing ??? -- so I'll keep trying and like I said if all else fails I'll ask Boo-Key.

Glad to know that I'm still good for something.  :P

Ha ha -- I didn't realize what I was saying there, but I guess in retrospect there is quite the naughty aspect to it.  Hee-hah!

DR Cillaliz - Count me in as another Nanci Griffith fan.  When I first got her "Other Voices, Other Rooms" album, I played it almost continuously for weeks.  -Yes, it was basically an album of covers, but her renditions were so honest and aching.  "Tecumseh Valley" still destroys me.  And "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.  And her original rendition of Julie Gold's "From A Distance" will never replace nor outshine Bette Midler's pop treatment of the song.

*And she puts on one helluva live show too!

**Which reminds me, I still have yet to listen to her latest torch song album which I bought a few months ago.

I think she's stopped being surprised with the innuendos around here...speaking of which, the word "innuendo" itself is pretty suggestive, isn't it?! :o

and an aside: the class saying was "Always forward, never straight" (the guys that came up with it still laugh at the reunions about Stairway to Heaven getting nixed but their saying getting through..)

A friend of mine in Richmond would always correct me when we were driving somewhere together:

So, do you turn here or go straight?
-Not straight, Gay-ly forward.

...And now I'm listening to a bootleg recording of a Nanci Griffith concert that my friend, Andy, gave me - "Sound of Loneliness".  I think it was recorded in England.  Great concert. (And great sound quality too.)  -I think it's one of those authorized-unauthorized-from-the-sound-board deals.

Nancy Griffith does a lovely version of Buddy Holly's "Heartbeat" too.

Ohhh... I'm such a sap... -As my eyes start to tear up...

Southbound Train
(Julie Gold)

I'm sitting on a southbound train
Staring at the sky
I'm thinking of my childhood
And I'm trying not to cry
While a stranger sleeps against me
And it feels like I'm his wife
Towns and cities flutter past
Like the pages of my life
My heart is on the baggage rack
It's heavy as can be
I wish that I could find someone
Who would carry it for me
Just to pay it some attention
And to handle it with care
Because it has been dropped
And is in need of some repair

(chorus)
Some things I know
Some things I guess
Some things I wish that I could learn
To express
Like the way that I feel
As I stare at the sky
And I remember your voice
And the sound... of goodbye

Maybe it's the autumn chill
Maybe it's the rain
Maybe I should wake the stranger
And ask him his name
But, my eyes they would betray me
And my words could not defend
No, I must learn to wait my turn
Before I love again

(chorus)
