TOD - I walked home for lunch throughout elementary school and only ate in the cafeteria on those rare occasions that my mother had a midday commitment.  Don't remember particularly liking anything, but I do remember the disgusting stewed tomatoes in a Dixie cup  :P

Topic of the Day:  my mom more often than not made my lunch, usually just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  I vaguely remember having a lunch box with a thermos at some point, but I don't remember what kind it was.  When I got into middle and high school, I started buying lunches more often.  Favorite cafeteria foods were the burgers and pizza.  What I liked to do was put goop on the school pizza.  That was good. :D

I really hate to do it, but I think it's time to break out the jar of seasonal allergy meds.      :(

When I was in grade school, every Thursday (or it seemed that way) we had chilli con carne and these giant cinnamon rolls.  I don't know who ever dreamed up that combination, but at the time, it was heaven.

Another school favorite was Browned Beef in gravy over whipped potatoes.

My favorite dessert was the little cups filled with raisins, minature marshmallows, and salted peanuts.  Yum!

And I always loved the turkey lunch that we were served the day before Thanksgiving.  When I was a child I thought that was strange because I figured that everybody would be having turkey dinner the next day.  Now, of course, I realize that the school lunch version was probably the only one that a lot of fellow students ever tasted.

I usually took a bagged lunch.  Eating in the cafeteria was a rare "treat", by choice.  I purchased milk at school.  In elementary school they sometimes had fudgsicle.  On those days I had ice cream instead of milk.

My favorite was a chopped olive sandwich on Challah.  I liked mine mixed with mayo & a friend of mine favored sliced olives with cream cheese.  Sometimes we would trade a half sandwich.

Back from too many errands and whatnot and must now have a dreary telephonic conversation, which hopefully will only last about ten minutes.

Here's the link to the "I'm Still Queer" video on YouTube, just uploaded last evening.

Hope you like it, and if you do, please pass the link around.

It's to the tune of the Stephen Sondheim classic "I'm Still Here," with a very special thanks to the wonderful William Parry for doing the vocal, and it's on YouTube by arrangement and with permission of the real song's publisher. (And thanks to Jose as always, and to DR Julie for her help along the way.)
Thanks if you have time to watch - it's a little over four minutes long,

Very cute, Fred!

My sister always called that "Gravy Train."

In my school, the students took up a petition and demanded that Hamburger gravy over whipped potatoes could not be served more than once every 10 days or something like that.  I never minded the stuff, but by then I was going home for lunch anyway, so it didn't matter.

Dear Jane, jewelry not really.  It started as a way to make it less expensive, but it ended up costing more as the quality goes higher.  At the gem show a few months ago, the only piece I really liked was not marked (when asked = 2400.00)  It's really cheaper to buy it on sale at the department or jewelry store.

Challah with, or without, raisins?

You didn't especially enjoy making it?  I think it takes a good deal of talent & a great deal of patience.

That is the only kind of challah I have ever had.  It was served for Rosh HaShanah.
