DR Tomovoz, if you get an evacuation order, you and Colin please get out of there. Please don't stay and try to fight the fire with a garden hose (people here try to do that).

DR Vixmom I'm very pleased your day out included a walk.

It wasn't much of one just from the car park to the boardwalk and back, but yes it was more of a walk than I had for many a day

Glad to hear you finally got your rain Laura, hope it was worth the wait.

Are you going outside to eat pancakes?

And get them wet?

I was just remembering that old quote you had : I'll just sit here in the rain and eat pancakes

I know you remember. I was kidding.

That was the funniest thing. We still laugh about it.

Evacuation orders are not likely to arrive Dear Reader Laura.  There is just no-one to give them.  We have to leave well before the fire hits - fortunately radio communications are excellent. (if you have power and are awake).

It is way too dangerous to leave in a vehicle when the fires are near.  We do have basic fire evacuation plans etc but the Fire itself plays no heed to rules and patterns of behavior.  No doubt many of the people lost did what "rules" would recommend.

I was just feeding the birds this morning and my thought went to the wild life out there.

We have a large wild life sanctuary zoo in the Yarra Valley - Many of the "residents" have been shifted to the Melbourne Zoo.  So many of the species at the Healsville sanctuary are on the endangered list.  They have even rescued "eggs".

I think the area is "Safe" for the moment.

I don't imagine you were up to going far.  I'm just glad you got out & had some "vacation" time with your DH.

Is that why so many people have lost their lives in this?  The numbers are mind boggling.  Do you have escape routes planned?  Don't get trapped in a car either.  When we moved here the fire marshall came up & told us to stay put if a fast moving fire comes up towards us.  He said since our only way out is down it is safer in the house.

Tom - do you have your "most important stuff" packed in your car and ready to go if you need to leave?

Neighbours are in contact with each other frequently.  We may hear a siren in the village but the volunteer fire fighters are probably elsewhere fighting fires.

I took a few bags of important documants etc to my Sister's house a week or so ago.  Some other things are in the car

3000 CDs and a few thousand Records and 800 DVDs are not important!

CONTINUED VIBES!

My sister is in a suburban area.

Fires came to the edge of her daughter's place on Saturday.   (Her home is in a Vinyard on the Dame Nellie Melba Estate in the Yarra Valley which DR Kerry remembers well).  The Vinyard over the road was totally destroyed.

Heading down now to clean the guest bath, put away the folded laundry, and then head back into the home theater for more viewing.

You'll have to excuse us, Tomovoz. Vixmom, Jane, and I are all moms. We all worry. It's a mom thing.

DR Tomovoz can you store those in your refrigerator?  I once read sometimes a refrigerator will protect things in a fire.

:) We sure do.  Even Keith asked this morning when Tom would post.  In the summer fires are a big concern here.  We have never gone through anything this scary.
