Thanks Dakota and Ginny.

I got my post office box today and found out the maintenance guy at the new building is my former neighbor.  We chatted and laughed when I went to the rental office to leave a deposit. After a little while the agent said...."You know what, we'll take it off the market and fix it up, then you can write us a deposit check.  We really don't need one until then."  :)

Ron, I do recall one being done on A&E that was very well done on the Black Dahlia but at the moment the name of the documentary escapes me.

Last Spetember

A&E Cold Case Files

115 - The Black Dahlia

Bill Kurtis examines one of the most infamous cold cases in Los Angeles history -- the 1947 murder of actress Elizabeth Short, who was found nude and cut in half in an empty lot. Though charges have never been filed in the case, theories abound, and Kurtis investigates some of the most prominent ones. He talks to a retired LAPD detective whose 3 year investigation led to the stunning conclusion that his own father committed the murder. Kurtis also probes the theory that the killer was a surgeon named Walter Bayley. Kurtis finally explores the possibility that there may have been a police cover-up in the case to protect the real killer.

Yes, written by Maxwell Anderson, based on a book by William March.

It starred Patricia McCormack and Nancy Kelly.

They went on to star in the film directed by Mervyn LeRoy (1956).

DER BRUCER,
Glad you want to give Minette a try. All her books are very good--yet all are quite different. THE DARK ROOM and ACID ROW are two of the better ones, in my view. PBS aired both THE ICE HOUSE and THE SCULPTRESS, so DVDs should be available, should you prefer that.

The WHITE CITY book that was recommended by DR GINNY more than a year ago is a terrific true crime thriller!

Our white skies turned to blue around lunchtime, and friend John and I had a pleasant lunch and did some walking, too, which was nice.

It first appeared as a prop in "Marathon Man" and was recycled for the musical "Little Shop of Horrors".

I didn't have a huge amount of time to watch things this afternoon; consequently, I only got 2 1/2 things watched.

I began with last night's MEDIUM, and an excellent episode it was, too. I adore the Texas Ranger character who's popped up on episodes each season, and he was wonderful last night, too. I especially loved his interaction with Bridgette.

The case was a real puzzler, too, until it became clear near the end, but I had no clue where it was going (my favorite kind of MEDIUM episode).

Yes. Me, too. A few things were changed at the ending of THE ICE HOUSE
adaptation, but I feel it was better for it. Daniel Craig did a wonderful job as the flawed detective--that might interest some H/Ks. I think THE ICE HOUSE was a really outstanding first novel; it strikes me more like the work of a very seasoned pro.

Next, I watched CSI: NY even though it was the standard definition recording on the evening's episode rebroadcast at 3 a.m. this morning.

Two interesting cases: one an apparent shoplifting case gone back and the other a seeming fraternity hazing ritual gone bad. Neither case was what it appeared to be, and I loved seeing each one play out as it did. One of the better episodes of the show that I've seen this season (but I've managed to miss four or five of them for one reason or another.)

I just couldn't resist, so I put in CHARLIE CHAN AT THE OPERA and watched about 20 minutes of it. The print looks mostly wonderful, very smooth and silky black and white with just a momentary spot or speck to spoil things.

Wasn't MARATHON MAN where one of the bad guys drilled Dustin Hoffman's teeth as a form of torture? That was one of the most horrifying scenes I've ever seen. Now THAT could give me nightmares. AAGGGHHH!!

When I go back down, I'll finish CHAN/OPERA and then finish AMERICAN IDOL which I only saw the first 1/4 of last night. If there's time left, I'll watch THE KNIGHTS OF PROSPERITY.

"The Bad Seed".
I remember one reviewer confusing it with Christopher Bond's play "The Sad Beedle"- best remembered now for introdcung German actress Mia Kulpal as Lucy Todd.

I find A&E's "City Confidential" extremely fascinating.

Many terrific tales of murder, mayhem, greed and gore.

I love that, too...especially the writing and the tongue-in-cheek delivery of the narrator.

What a sad spectacle she had become in recent years. And after the death of her son, I can't say this surprises me at all.

Criminal case in Oz "The Framed Dingo" was hard to avoid in the media frenzy.

Some DR's would be more interested in the crimes of "Chopper Read" or more probably,  Eric Bana.
