I missed the opening credits.  Peggy got out, briefly, and was running along the street, a big grin on her face.  Fortunately, another dog lover was also on the street, and she ran up to greet him, so she was retrieved fairly quickly this time.

But we got the whole show on tape.

I vote bow tie as well.

DRDTM, I think Michael Jackson will be acquitted even though I think he's guilty as hell.

DRJRand54, I love the film PAJAMA GAME, because of the cast, but I really don't like the show:  "Her Is" and "A New Town" give me the heaves.  Hugh would be a good Sid, with someone like Erin Dilly as Babe.  I don't think we have any Carol Haneys or Eddie Foys any more.

Hey, I actually know who some of the people are? And someone said Tom Wopat!

That is the play I want to see DR Elmore3003, the one with Tom Wopat.

Ok, give me a break, I am a newbie at this Tony stuff.

All in all, not my favorite Tony broadcast - too many commercials, too many speeches cut off.  Wish C-Span could broadcast this the way they do the political conventions and inauguration - point the camera and let the audience "be there."

I found most of the winners satisfying, though.  Jose's right about the number later in the show - you have to see & hear it to believe it.

First of all - CBS should be shot for the way they began the show with the list of TV friendly guest list - it's so transparent and disgusting.  Billy was funny, and Hugh has charm.  Liev was odd.  And now we're having four minutes of commercials.

I could have lived without the opening number, which wasn't even really a number.  And kids, there ARE screamers aplenty - because there they were in all their teenage glory as soon as they showed a bit from Bklyn and Little Women.

It's sad to say, but I think that, one way or another, Jackson will never let himself go to prison.
Michael Jackson was taken to an emergency room Sunday for treatment of a back problem that has plagued him throughout his molestation trial, a spokeswoman said.

Jackson, accompanied by a bodyguard, arrived at the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital about five miles from his Neverland ranch at about 2:30 p.m., spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain said.

“Mr. Jackson’s back has spurred up on him again,” Bain said. “It’s pretty serious. It was serious enough for him to come over here.”

Bain said stress contributed to the entertainer’s back problem

How large is everyone's Tony Award on tape collection?  I go every broadcast since '83, with a few from the 70s purchased on eBay.

DRMBarnum, I'm so proud of you abandoning Bollywood for the Tonys that I could spit.  Wopat is in GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, so I'll check to see if he's still in it.  I'm sure he is, but he may not be by the time you stop buying dollar DVDSs to pay for a plane ticket. ;D

MBARNUM - I think Wopat is in GLENGARY GLENN ROSS....or am I wrong again?

I started taping in '89 or so, but I did't get the year that The Secret Garden was on. :'(

Well the Tonys are over.  Let's see if I can give my round-up without spoiling any winners.

First off I loved the beginning.  The interchangeable stuff with the musicals was great.  The stuff with Bill Crystal was so funny.  My gosh I would give anything to have him as the host.  His stuff was so much better than anything Hugh Jackman did.

I HATED Hugh Jackman's manic song.  I loved Christina Applegate's presenter entrance.

Chita Rivera made a huge boo boo.  But it was bleeped out here.

Of the musical presentations, I thought Spelling Bee came across best.  Most of these shows seem to have no idea how to best display their shows.  I thought that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was too focused on Norbert, and I can't imagine that too many people would buy tix based on that.

Spamalot was good. But I wanted to see more of the jokes, to see if it would be my type of show.

Cages was okay. But way too much dancing and not enough performance.

Charity was also okay but it didn't make me want to see the show.

I thought Piazza looked lovely, and I would definitely want to see this.

Tacky: cutting off acceptance speeches. I won't say which ones, but turning off the mikes is disgusting when you get to the final awards.

All in all, I thought the show started out great.  But Hugh did nothing for me.  The musical numbers (Bernadette, Hugh, Jesse, Aretha) did nothing for me.  The tribute to those who died this year was nice. And the musical numbers were nice.  But as I said before, I would have loved to see Billy Crystal as the host. He is so funny.

THoughts on tonight's Tonys:

1. Loved the way the four Best Musicals were worked into the opening number. One of the most creative in years!

2. Hugh Jackman should do nothing but musicals and Wolverine. He is a sparkling song and dance man of the first order! Don't know ANY other male stars of the moment who have his showmanship and charisma.

3. SPELLING BEE's number was my favorite of the four Best Musical excerpts.

4. Christina Applegate sounded flat in some of the singing, and her dance steps seemed to be about one step for every two steps that Gwen Verdon or Shirley MacLaine did in their Charitys. (I didn't see Debbie Allen, but I suspect she did like Verdon and MacLaine since Fosse choreographed her, too).

5. All four musical actor winners seems deserving judging from the excerpts we saw them perform tonight. No complaints.
