Just put on the OCR of Weird Romance... just because...

So whatever happened to Marguerite MacIntyre?

I remember that she was on an episode of "Seinfeld."  The only thing I remember of the episode (I never watched the show) was that she was competing in a beauty pageant and Kramer (for some reason) was her coach and suggested that she change her talent to singing from something that wasn't singing.  At the moment of the pageant, she started singing and was horrible!  She (her character, of course) couldn't sing at all and she lost the pageant.

Marguerite, herself...of course, is a wonderful singer. ;D

For those of you who caught the end bits on the Tony webcast...

When they were doing the ringtones bit with the Sprint guy...  When I heard the screaming, I thought the answer was going to be Good Vibrations.

Here's the total number of awards received by each production, according to Playbill.com (I'm too lazy to count them, myself):

The Light in the Piazza - 6
Doubt - 4
Monty Python's Spamalot - 3
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - 2
La Cage aux Folles - 2
Glengarry Glen Ross - 2
The Pillowman - 2
700 Sundays - 1
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - 1
The Rivals - 1
Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - 1

I actually didn't mind Aretha's version of "Somewhere" - she was being Aretha!  *I still remember that version of "I Dreamed A Dream" she did at Clinton's Inaugural concert - WOW!  Talk about backphrasing!!

In any case...

I thought Hugh Jackman's attempt to sound soulful was a bit non-soulful... I would have rather had him hand the number over to her, rather than him joining her in a duet.

And maybe have it start more legitimately.  When I heard the R&B piano intro, I knew I was in for a "treat".

And what was with the double ending?  It appeared to me that Mr. Jackman was caught off guard by it.  -But he did hold that last note out!

My earliest Aretha album has her singing "If Ever I Would Leave You". it predates "Respect" by 5 or 6 years.

I think that rendition is finally on CD.

We had a woman come to an audition last year in NYC, and she sang it too.  Blew us away!  We asked why she had picked the song, and she said it was one of the first songs she heard Aretha Franklin sing.  Amazing!  And she sang it in the show key too - so she was belting high Fs and Gs.

Oh, it was the original "Acid Queen" from The Who's Tommy, Cheryl Freeman.

One of my favorite auditions ever.

So...

How long until the Weisslers put the closing notice up for Sweet Charity?

Before or after they announce the show will tour?

;D

Would they ever put Charlotte D'Amboise (sp?) back in?

Well, she's back in Chicago right now, so...

However, maybe they'll put Melanie Griffith in?

;)

Ooohh... But then they could cast Antonio Banderas as Vittorio Vidal.  Now that I'd like to see!

Did All Shook Up get nominated for anything?

I believe it's the only non-nominated musical still open - well, at least without a closing notice (Brooklyn).

Jesse L. Martin's performance tonight was even better than I remember his work being in RENT.

I think it will take a good while for DRs TCB and Ann to catch up tonight. And where is DR Jed?

It must almost be today there where it has been yesterday for so long.
