And aren't you supposed to be proofing something, dear reader Laura?  At this rate, the book will come out in a year.

Does anyone know anything about the city Vancouver in Washington State?  I tried googling to find out info about things to do there, since one of Skip's old shows is being done in a small theater there.  Is it near anything touristy?

Vancouver is just across the bridge from Portland where there is much to do.

Cillaliz, I imagine Bootsie will do fine once he has a chance to settle down...the little fella has been through a lot in the last couple of days.

It is currently, at 5:48 pm, 102 degrees in the city of Salem.

In my home environment, the living room to be exact, it is just over 85 degrees.

Oh, I'm sure things will be fine, this is just the crazy part. We'll get through it.  She's already settling down a bit.

Oy - I had a grizzly 5-hour drive home from Cleveland that included 2 (count 'em, 2) torrential rainstorms.  One was as I was driving through Columbus.  The second prompted me to pull off the interstate and wait it out in a Wendy's.  Took the back roads home from there.  Oh, well, now I probably don't have to go to the car wash!

Well, the rallying went pretty well until today, when we expected my dad to be dismissed.  It turns out now his kidneys are causing problems and he needs to be examined and tested by a kidney specialist.  Doctor Albers arrived at 9 PM tonight after examining my dad's records, said the problem may be caused by the dehydration, but they will see if cancer is overcoming his kidneys, check for other problems, and he may be released on Friday.  It never rains but pours.

On a creepy side, the farmhouse owned by my brother Randy was built around 1880.  When he bought it around 10 years ago, he added a new front room, renovated the interior, and inherited the ghosts, which have been manifesting themselves in creepy ways.  This morning around 6 AM, something heavy sounding like a heavy table or safe crashed to the floor next to my bed.  The room I'm occupying supposedly has a "little boy" who played with the daughters of the previous owners.  The other night, quite early in the morning, someone came in the front door and walked up the stairs.  I thought it was my nephew Matt who - it turns out - didn't come home that night.  Lots of footsteps on the ceiling which my brother and sister-in-law say is my imagination.  Matt assures me it's not.  Welcome to Hill House.

All's quiet in the guest room...did I mention she has a queen sized bed and windows facing both south and east? I'm doling out food a very little at a time.  She's been literally starving so she'd gorge herself if I let her. She makes the funniest sound when she eats sort of a yum, yum mum hum yum.  Last I checked she was lounging on the bed purring away.

Our one near catastrophe of Bootsie racing me to the door and me accidentally stepping on her leg was remedied by a handful of food which led to a happy kitten purring on my lap.  Callie however heard the howl and ran to the basement where she hid for about an hour. Now she's on my lap and all seems right with the world.  She hasn't hissed once. I think she knows what's up and that she won't be alone.

I heard the first firecrackers outside tonight. I am SOOOO glad my skinny skinny little black cat isn't out there where some unfeeling kid could possible hurt her with firecrackers or simply terrify her with them.

SO, my only question is when did I become the weird cat lady? LOL, I once told my grandmother I wanted to live in the mountains with 100 cats....am I on my way there?

How many people here live in states where fireworks are legal and how many in states wherre they are illegal?

They have been illegal here since long before Iwas born yet every year we are "treated" to days and nights of loud explosions.... the night of the 4th looks like the close of all the Disneys parks put togther.... which would be great from a safe distance... but when the debris all ends up in the pool and the gutters and the lawn  and the cars.....blecch!!!!!!

Fireworks are legal in South Dakota, but not in Iowa. Well, South Dakota is on the other side of the river, so there are always fireworks here.  The strange thing is there is a limited time in which you can buy them each year, it's longer if you don't live in South Dakota and shorter if you do. They aren't legal in the surrounding states, so how dumb is that?
The last time I was in Sioux City on the 4th the whole town smelled of sulphur from all the firecrackers and fireworks

A very bizarre law here in Pennsylvania--it's perfectly legal to sell fireworks, but you can't buy them if you are a state resident.

It's true!
