Just been watching Tony Bennett on the annual Royal Variety Performance. What an amazing performer - at the age of 85!

That sounds like fun. Heck, just the sounds of watching TV sounds fun. Maybe once the semester ends Monday I can kick back. (I thought it was Friday, but I heard that I have actually a couple of extra days.)

I think Tony had probably the most phenomenal breath control of any pop singer back in his prime.  When I hear him on ballads like "Maybe September," my breath is taken away.

I received a beautiful gift box today from A&E.  I thought initially it was fruitcake, but it's actually a nice variety of wonderful dessert pastries, including what looks like some delish brownies.

I hope they realize that doesn't mean I'm going to love Ice Road Truckers.  :)

Last night we were all feeling rather down & not in the mood to cook for our company.  It perked us up to go out to a nice restaurant for dinner.

Tonight, without an excuse, we ordered food in.  Craig is picking it up & should return about the same time our company, sweet Eli's mother, arrives..  She had to work in Grants Pass today & then make a stop at Toys R Us for a Christmas gift she will give her niece at breakfast tomorrow.

Someone just sent me an hilarious NPR blog post about bitter people who post negative comments on chat boards, kind of like what BK talks about with regard to YouTube.  I'll see if I can find it online and link to it.

PBS is showing the City Ballet's NUTCRACKER tonight live from Lincoln Center and I missed the first half! Balanchne's directon and stagng of the children in the first act is sheer genius.

I had no idea it was being shown tonight. Damn. Maybe they'll rebroadcast on Sunday.

Well, I'm off to see Capital Playhouse's production of Scrooge.  It's the first time that they've presented it without ousted founder Jeff Kingsbury as Scrooge.  I'm sure that it'll be good, though. :)

Until later.

It's rebroadcast Sunday at 12:30. I'll tape it then. I'm sure it's better than the filmed version with McCauley Culkin. Or hwever the hell you spell it!

As I was walking toward the library today, I was thinking about stopping at the box office and buying a ticket for NUTCRACKER. It was the reason I first came to New York in Christmas week, 1966, and it's one of my favorite things about New York at Christmas.

I don't thnk the director was too smart, though, about directing the ballet for tv: to many cameras so you can't see Balanchine's beautful patterns and pictures, why the cut to Marie during the Prince's narrative about the Mouse King instead of sticking the camer on him? It's his moment. I'll videotape it on Sunday, and I ,ay rn down to Lincoln Center when I hit the NYPL and buy a tcet for next week.

I agree about the camera work, DR Elmore, and I envy you being able to go see the production in person.  We did enjoy the broadcast.

It remans for me the definitive production of the ballet, and I can't wait to see the broadcast of Act One now.

I'll check on ticket sales. If I go, I want a good seat in the first ring or first balcony.

I was hoping for tickets to Follies for Christmas but apparently it is not in the cards --- I wonder if there is any chance of them filming it for the Broadway series  movie specials....

I just mentioned that that was my hope in my recent review of the Direct from Broadway MEMPHIS.

DR Vixmom - new glasses never feel right to me until I put them on after a full night's sleep.  See how you feel tomorrow morning.

OVATION is having the battle of the Nutcrackers this week.  Unfortunately they are introduced by Debbie Allen......the great danseuse.   Even with Nigel Lythgoe along, it's a strange evening.

One Nutcracker an evening for five nights.....and then you vote for your favorite.
