As I was walking toward the library today, I was thinking about stopping at the box office and buying a ticket for NUTCRACKER. It was the reason I first came to New York in Christmas week, 1966, and it's one of my favorite things about New York at Christmas.
I don't thnk the director was too smart, though, about directing the ballet for tv: to many cameras so you can't see Balanchine's beautful patterns and pictures, why the cut to Marie during the Prince's narrative about the Mouse King instead of sticking the camer on him? It's his moment. I'll videotape it on Sunday, and I ,ay rn down to Lincoln Center when I hit the NYPL and buy a tcet for next week.
