Well, you've read the notes, the notes ain't what they used to be, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they ain't what they used to be either.

I'm about to go to sleep.  Today (after I sleep the night away) will be a long day.  I'm taking the day off so I'll at least get to sleep in, but today will be the official, if belated, final performance of Reefer Madness! The Musical!  We were able to get the use of the Washington Center for the Performing Arts Stage II (the Black Box) but we won't have the set. :-\ But the good news is that the entire cast, crew and band are able to do the show!  No one had to back out because of prior commitments. :D

I've never been in a show where we've moved and had to re-block like this.  I was in a show that performed in two different spaces (in Centralia and Olympia), but it was planned that way and they moved the set, so everything was the same, except for the backstage area.  I hope everything goes well for us. ;D

Vixdad did not kill me and was glad I noticed the overburdened cabinent and emptied it before it fell off the wall

I still feel awful about it... he warned me and warned me I had too much heavy stuff in it and I didn't listen - he gets up at 6 AM to take me to radiation then drives me home goes to work gets in late because of my morning appointment so has to work late, he doesn't get home until 8:30 PM and then he had to start trying to repair a cabinent

Post by: vixmom on January 07, 2009, 03:01:40 AM
The radiation has really fried my mouth and throat I am always thirsty but nothing can slake the thirst... what's really weird is that nothing feels cold on my throat - I tried eating an icepop - one of those frozefruit sort of thingies and was letting little pieces of ice slide down my throat and it was like it was lukewarm - really weird

I mentioned this to my doctor andhe said it was not unusual - he also told me to stop letting ice slide down my throat apparently it is "contra-indicated"
He didn't say why.

Vixdad told me to make a list of all the things I want to do when this is over I told him right now there is only one thing - I dream about it now (literally) I want to drink a whole gallon of freshsqueezed orange juice out of a frozen mug

I wonder how long it will take to get my throat and tastebuds back after they stop shooting me full of XRays....

hmmm another question for the doctor

Good morning from Austin.

We have a 9am meeting with our builder to go over the house before they put up the inside wall.  We're bringing along our own building inspector just to make sure everything is kosher.

More later...

4:53am, I'm up.  I'm not sure how I feel about that at this moment.  The DP leaves at 4:00am to get to the bakery, the dog was restless, and I was laying in bed thinking that more things were stolen out of my car than I had previously thought.  I'll be checking on said things later today.  I'm not sure if they were stolen or if I had removed them previously.  The last 3 weeks have been a whirlwind, so anything could have happened.  In the meantime, why am I up?

Good morning, all! In about 30 minutes I shall run down to Toyland to drop off some edits, look for a few scores, and stop next door to drop off the NY State Tax info from three years ago.  Yesterday I had a long telephone discussion with the estate attorney about selling my third of the property, and that led to an email to my brothers asking if they knew a third party interested in buyng my share before I offered it to another buyer. No response yet from them.

My days are all the same for the nonce: mornings with the Babes, afternoons with the Happy Fella, and evenings on other matters. I am at the moment just a little bit in love and that's frustrating me beyond belief. I'm too old for this crap.

Well, all hell has begun over my interest in selling my third of the property. I was sure the Macbeths would bite and take my offer, but my brother, I believe, is more interested in screwing me over at a lower asking price. Randy is upset by my actions, but I'm still angry that an attorney and my two brothers let my dad draw up this deed four days before his death. The property should have stayed in the estate, and I would have sold it last year, perhaps not at what I believe it will sell for once the economy stirs but we allwould have ended up with a nice share. I will never know if it was my dad's belief he could avoid our paying inheritance taxes (wrong!) or if it was a King-Lear-control issue to keep the three of us on speaking terms (wrong again!).

So, i'm off to Toyland. Tra la!

Interesting MR B story from Danise.

re: DR Jose's macaroni and cheese comments from last night.

1. re: the cheese baked on top being the best part.

Yep it is. Good call on your part (since i was considering not bakin git).

2. using meat.

Not an option, since one person is a vegetarian.  And not sure i would like having meat.

3. Adding parmesean cheese for extra flavor. Do you mean the powdered stuff? (which i have).

Salt would have been a good idea. It was on the recipe (i checked). But i don't think i put any.

4. Onions, or mushrooms.  Well my sis hates mushrooms, as does her hubby.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Torrential rains woke me up several times during the night so I didn't have the greatest night of sleep, and it was only 7 hours, another bummer. Still, looks like the gray skies are finally leaving us. This morning it was so warm walking out to get the newspaper that I could have sworn it was May!

I have a question which maybe someone will know the answer to.

I received one of those steam mops. In the instuctions it says to use tap water. But they put a note around the mop saying it will last longer if i use distilled water.

Now i have a hand steamer and was told to use bottled water so it would last longer.

I was just wondering if i should/could use bottled water for the mop (i don't have distilled water).
Or could i just boil tap water and then let it sit.  I'm not really a water expert. But i would like to try out my mop.

Thanks if anyone knows anything about this.

I've been struggling with whether to take another day off or go ahead and review what came in yesterday. Doing some research, I found out Paramount has renamed this National Lampoon movie for its DVD release which is definitely not a good sign, but since I am going to be in all day, I might as well get it out of the way while I wait for better things to arrive. I saw the UPS truck head down my street earlier this morning, but I never heard him stop near my door, so I don't think this morning's delivery brought me anything.

Mornin' all -- I don't have much to say (I know, I find that surprising/shocking too) -- but I do have two questions, but not for bk, although I guess the one might be answered by him:

DR Druxy: Which area of Austin will you be living in -- close to town or in the 'burbs? (I like Austin so was just wondering -- you know, curious, like a cat)

General populous of HHW (since I'm never on when DR Jeanne is): Did I understand post postings to indicate that DR Jeanne is moving to California? Where? LA? If LA, which part? Again, just curious, like a cat.

Pushing Daisies was cancelled. But they were supposed to air the remaining episodes.

Apparently they were supposed to show a new episode tonight, but it got pulled. And they don't know if/when they will air the remaining shows.

It is bad enough that ABC was so stupid and cancelled realy good shows (Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies). But now they might not even show the episodes they've got????

Did Ron ever make it to the Doctor?

No, he didn't.  He waited and waited and waited for a telephone call but doctor never called.

I don't call the doctor directly...I go through the VA clinic's procedures.  I was "interviewed" by one of the advice nurses who decided I ought to see my doctor.  But she can only forward the info to him.  She would have no idea if he was (1) at work on any specific date, (2) had any openings whatsoever, or (3) had time to check his voice mail or his e-mail.  If she faxed information to the Oakland Clinic, heaven help me.  There is a whole "other" bureaucracy that info would have to pass through (lots of non-medical folks deciding whether it was urgent or not!!!) that might have precluded it reaching him before the work day was over.

Bottom line:  I'm alive, relatively assured of remaining so for the near future, and none the worse from not having gotten the call.

Still...the coughing is there, the glop is there and I think it's high time it was gone, gone, gone.

On today's Ask Ausiello somebody asked if they were going to air the episodes this summer. And he wrote that as of now the guy who does Pushing Daisies had no idea about that. And Ausiello implied that wasn't necessarily the plan anymore.

I'd be surprised if they didn't air them. But why wait until summer? Then nobody will even remember the show.

If you are not able to go out today and just want tot ry the mop one time I am sure one run with regular tap water will not destroy the mop - they are talking about mineral  buildup over a period of time.

BTW which mop do you have?  I have been very tempted by the "Shark" since I have a lot of hard wood floors and tile floors, but the $69 + price tag keeps me from buying it... if it's the best thing since sliced bread please let me know

Not bottled drinking water. That has minerals added for taste.

Bottled distilled water. You can find it in your grocery store.

I'm just confused why they said to use regular bottled water for my hand steamer.

Thanks.

Dear Confused:  If you have or get one of those water filtration devices, such as the Brita Water system, you can use that easily enough.  The water gets demineralized decently (although not entirely) and it should work in both your steamers.  Plus, you don't have to keep buying bottles of water.

I have a Brita water pitcher which I use constantly.  I never used tap water for my cat's drinking water and I've used the Brita water for my iron and my Scünci steamer for years without any mineral buildup.

I think I am finally at the end of the yearly dig-down to get things organized.

Torrential rains forecasted for today--they're expecting at least 3 inches of rain and lots of landslides.  Oy.

I have things to do today, including assembling a bass book for an upcoming industrial gig I'm doing, preparing for the start of the new Pops session tomorrow, and also making varied and sundried PRODUCERS phone calls as that long slog begins (the show doesn't even open until July and we're already in pre-production, can you believe it?).

Speaking of TMI,

the nurse at Rediation said if I am thirsty all the time it means I am dehyrdrated and that I should use the feeding tube to drink water.  I was mystified how sticking water inteh tube (which feeds directly into my stomach) could make my mouth and throat feel better - but by golly and buy bonds it did!

Now I have to keep track of how much water I am "drinking " to be sure I am getting at least 8 glasses in a day

I am learning so much weird stuff about how my body works.  I think the vixter has biology next year - she should be taking notes on me I bet I would be a heck of a good extra credit paper!

Question for Everyone:

If you could be on a TV or Radio Game Show (past or present) what show would it be and why?

When I was a little girl and stayed home sick from school  I used to watched a game show (I think it was called Concentration ) that involved having to locate 2 matching prize squares and then solving the puzzle the pictures would show

and I must admit that in the past month I have become addicted to to Deal or No Deal... well addicted isn't really the word, I don't seek it out... but if I run across it on a channel change  I am sucked right in

About your cabinet - we've had quite an epidemic of cabinet crashes in my family lately.  Before Christmas, the corner of our dining room hutch was bumped ever-so-slightly and a glass plate that was standing against the back crashed forward, breaking some glassware and scaring the daylights out of the person involved (name withheld to protect the embarrassed).  Then, my niece in Illinois had one of her kitchen cabinets come crashing down in an event that could have hurt her, but, fortunately, did not.  Then, just the other day, a shelf in my mom's corner cupboard came off its support and crashed on the shelf below.  I'm glad you were able to take preventive measures yesterday!

I think most musical theater composers under the age of 35 sound like JRB, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.  -However, since I live in southern tip of El Alto - Washington Heights and Inwood - In The Heights sounds a lot like the music I hear on the streets in my 'hood every day.

It's not a mop.

It's a steamer, and I do like it.  I use it on my appliances (great on grease buildup) and windows.

OH!   I know what you are talking about, yes I have one of those too

I've discovered it's one side of the adaptor's cords, the one that goes into the keyboard, that's faulty.  If I press on it really hard, the keyboard works.  However that makes conducting difficult.  :)

Not bottled drinking water. That has minerals added for taste.

Bottled distilled water. You can find it in your grocery store.

I never used tap water for my cat's drinking water

Neither did I, and with large dogs sharing the drinking water it became rather expensive at times. ;D

I was concerned you would get dehydrated.  I'm very relieved you figured this out before it became serious.

VIBES FOR YOUR WONDERFUL VIXDAD!  I’m praying all your side effects quickly subside once the treatments are completed.

Thank you for the good wishes.

1.  It is about a foot long flexible clear tube slightly wider than you r average drinking straw

2. I use a bulb syringe that looks like a small turkey baster (it holds 60ccs of liquid at a time if that's helpful)
I pour whatever I am eating or drinking intoa glass and then just suck it up the syringe and then put the syringe in the end of the tube (after opening the tube, it's capped like a blowup toy) and slowly squeeze whatever is going in,in.

3.  I would guess so... Vixdad has already (teasingly) threatened to get me drunk by feeding me liquor in my sleep

My DH has two portable electric pianos for this exact reason.  Saves so much time in setting up and breaking down the events. Not to mention the costs of Advil.   :)

Fat bottoms may be good for health, protect against diabetes - Harvard researchers

WOMEN can stop worrying about pear-shaped figures - fat bottoms have been scientifically proven to be a sign of good health.
New research, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, suggests the fat responsible for producing the pear shape flaunted by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce may be active in protecting women from diseases by releasing certain hormones.

People with the apple shape, where fat is stored around the tummy, can be more prone to type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Those with pear-shaped bodies, where fat is collected in the buttocks, are less likely to have these disorders.

The missing hair is all at the back of my head so it's not noticable here at all.

Actually I have been pretty lucky re: hair loss I have some thin spots inteh back but overall I have not really experienced the hairloss I was expecting.   I am glad I did not invest in a wig

DR Jennifer - "Distilled water" is made by boiling water and then collecting the steam via distillation in another container.  However, to help prevent traditional Chinese egg custard tarts from bubbling up too much, it help to boil the water before adding it to the custard mixture.  -Apparently, the boiling, boils out the oxygen.  Or something like that.

Favorite game show would be $64,000 Question because the questions were all on the one topic you chose for yourself before the competition started. So, I could pick something like Hitchcock movies or Sondheim musicals and try to win with my knowledge of those.

I used to have a fair amount of general knowledge, but as the years have passed, my use for that general knowledge has lessened, and I've forgotten so much so a show like JEOPARDY or MILLIONAIRE wouldn't suit me now.

Then I began my review work with Season 2 of Andy Griffith's MATLOCK. I only got 2 1/4 episodes watched because (a) the season premiere was a 96-minute episode, and (b) we had a power outage that interrupted viewing for a bit.

By season 2, Linda Purl had left the show and been replaced with Nancy Stafford. The first was a real murder mystery. The second was a COLUMBO-style episode where we see David Ogden Stiers kill Greg Mullavey and then try to pin it on Mullavey's battered girl friend.

Jennifer you will be able to find gallon sized bottles of distilled water in the cleaning aisle oy your supermarket and tehy should be very cheap.

It is the Shark. It was $20 off (although i did not pay for it). I'll let you know. I think i will wait to use the distilled water.  The dirty floor can just wait a day! :)

Does no one else harbor secret hopes of being on a TV game show?

(of course I am too lazy to do anything about trying to find out how to actually apply to be a contestant but maybe someday Howie Mandel will show up at my house and ask me to be on the show... could happen!)

I always wanted to be on Password (I just reviewed a magnificent set of the 1962-67 CBS version).  I also harbored secret fantasties of being able to use "smidge" as a clue, delivered in that weird, elongated, questioning manner that they used, usually to get them to say the opposite.  I am known for saying "smidge" in that manner for no reason whatsoever.

And what would be the "opposite" of "smidge"?

I'm guessing some would say, "That's easy...it's 'alot'!.  But, of course, "alot" is not a word.  And "lot" wouldn't work

So...."smidge...?"....should elicit.....?..."heaping?"...or "excessive?"

Since "smidge" is a diminutive of "Smidgen" the Word Central student thesaurus lists these antonyms:

abundance, barrel, bucket, bushel, deal, gobs, heaps, loads, mass, mountain, much, peck, pile, plenty, profusion, quantity, raft, scads, stack, wad, wealth; volume; embarrassment, excess, overabundance, overage, overflow, overkill, overmuch, oversupply, superabundance, superfluity, surfeit, surplus; chunk, hunk, lump, slab

Just received some absolutely shocking news:  our former rabbi, and former DR Dan in Toronto's cousin, drowned while snorkeling in Mexico.  We're really stunned.  Does anyone have Dan's email--I can't seem to find it.  Aryeh was not all that old, and had had twins by a second marriage rather late in life, so they're only about 6 or 7.  I think maybe Jane and Keith knew Aryeh, too, from his stint in Ashland.

Thank you for reminding me I did not transfer the clothes from the washer to the dryer after we returned home.
It is a nice sunny day, 53 degrees!  We took Sherlock into town for a walk & visit to his favorite shops.

A good-old fashion "naturalist" like yourself should eschew the carbon-footprint monster dryer and hang your clothes in the freah air like God intended.

I wonder if Jane ever used a washboard? A wash-tub with a hand-wringer? A wooden clothes-prop?

While I have done plenty of washing by hand I have never had any of the above props to do so.  I have had to hang all my laundry, including sheets & towels, on an outside clothesline.  I find the clothes hard & uncomfortable.  I like modern day softeners for my delicate skin. :)

I had not met him as he left Ashland for Portland prior to our arrival.  It was one of those interesting connections.  Dan asking if I knew his cousin & later  Betsy mentioning the temple she & Jeff belong to.  That was the day I met DRs MBarnum, George & JMK.  It was such a good day.

DR George, have a great show!

Hmmm, when we met, let me think....I may have been about 15 pounds lighter than I am now.    I still have 40 to go, but I'm swimming in most of my clothes.  I've been waiting to take them to be taken in, but I think I need to take a few things now.   I don't feel like I've lost that much. Today I put on a jacket that was too tight last summer and it is way too big for me now.

Michigan's loss is Oregon's gain:

ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,477752,00.html)

Quote
CONVICTED 'ZOMBIE BANDIT' SOUGHT IN OREGON ROBBERY

MEDFORD, Ore. —  A convicted bank robber the FBI nicknamed the "Zombie Bandit" during a string of bank holdups in the Midwest in 1991 is the suspect in a robbery last week in Medford.

Surveillance videos convinced investigators the man who robbed the Liberty Bank on Dec. 30 is 67-year-old Alan David Hurwitz, who served prison time for holdups at 18 banks across Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

"He is not the most likely bank robber, but we have seen people fall off the pedestal in the past and resort to crime," Medford police Lt. Tim Doney said.
The FBI nicknamed him the "Zombie Bandit" because of the vacant look on his face during the Midwest robberies.

"He's done a lot of good in his life, but he has been a slave to crack cocaine," Medford police Deputy Chief Tim George said.

At one time Hurwitz was a Detroit teacher, a staff member at Michigan State University, a member of a task force on school violence and a deputy director of the Peace Corps in Kenya, according to a 2005 profile in Detroit's Metro Times newspaper.

Hi folks.  I'm sorry I left so suddenly last night.  I was just so tired.  I am still tired.  There is to much drama going on right now.

So to up date  you:

They couldn't really work on the house today because it rained.  They did do some of the wiring for the light.  Thelma said I should ask them for a motion sensor light.  I will speak with them tomorrow.

Thelma's husband, Bill, isn't doing to good.  Vibes for him would be appreciated.  He is very weak.

The dog story continues.  As I predicted, the dog got away from them again.  The kid and Dad this time showed up at my door thinking I had him.  The kid is crying up a storm.  As we spoke, he comes the dog right to me.  The kid says I can have the dog.  I said I don't want your dog, I want YOU to take care of your dog.

I told the father, the dog needs to fixed so he wouldn't roam.  He needs food.  He needs a vet.  He needs shots.  He needs heartworm meds.  The dad states they do feed the dog, he's thin because he runs away all the time.  I said I don't believe that is the case.  He offers me the dog.  I decline.

Again as I thought, when I tell the kid to go get his leash so he can take the dog home, he tell finely tells me they don't have one.  I give them Bears old leash and halter.  Maybe that will help them control the dog.

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow which I suspect will confirm that I have diabetes.  I don't need this extra stress and I do not want to come home every night to a dog and a crying kid that isn't mine.

I keep wondering how I got caught up in all this.

Also today I get a letter from my house insurance tellng me they are canceling my policy  because the roof is in poor repair.  I called and left a blistering message and told them they had better get their ass (pardon the language) over here and look at the work that is being done.

Sorry but it just hasn't been a good day.  I feel tired and out of sorts.

I had 2 minor accidents while trying to cook tonight.

I seem to always have problems with my grater. I've often in the past lightly touched my fingers with the graters. But today the grater touched my fingernail. Luckily my nails were quite long so it took off a big chunk but i can still see the white of my nail.

Then some hot oil spattered and hit my eyebrow. The oil was only on mediu. I am lucky it did not hit my eye. But it still hurt!

I made something new i'd never made before. It was called Olive Garden Chicken Parmesean and bowties.

The boneless chicken breast was dipped in milk and then in a mixture of bread crumbs/flour/parmesean cheese.  Then it was grilled. It was so delicious!

Well I fed myself before and felt bloated so I laid back and the next thing I knew it was 4 hours later

The Vixter covered me up, turned off the TV and light and moved to the computer room where she could keep an eye on me

She made her own dinner and cleaned up the kitchen all while I was sleeping --

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I am so lucky

Maybe Vixdad needs one, or he should come join us.

Once you have completed the treatments I do hope you will look into a group, even an online one, to educate you about your particular cancer.  Education can be scary, ignorance dangerous.  I'm sure some of us would gladly do a little research for you if it is too much to cope with.

We are having massive flooding here in Pierce County.  Fortunately, it is the other end of the county, but very bad for my neighbors.  The Puyallup River may crest at 36 feet.

OH!   I failed to congratualte Cilla on her great achievement!  You go girl!!!!!!!

Thanks!  It's been fun.  Tomorrow will be the first weigh in since Dec 18th (because of Christmas and New Years being on Thursday, my meeting day).  SO, it will be interesting.

Do you also weigh in at home?  I prefer using the same scale, close to the same time, with the same clothes on.

Good luck tomorrow.  I'm sure you lost something since your clothes are so large :)

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!

I weigh in at home and occasionally at Curves.  So, I have a good idea where I am.

I'm finally cleaning out my closet, getting rid of the clothes (many of them) which are WAY too big for me now.  I'm trying to get some of my life in order.  Motivation is the hardest part!  I have too much stuff.   >:(

The good part is that some custom made shirts that I haven't been able to wear for years fit perfectly.  Hoorah!

I'm looking forward to doing that.  I've decided that I'm going to keep a much smaller wardrobe than I have now.  I like to clean out closets. It feels like such a clean start when I'm done. And I don't have that frustration of going through several things that don't fit before finding something that does.

I am finally home from the office.  Man! it's been busy down there.  I like it, but I am very tired.
Tomorrow the plumbers are supposed to be here first thing in the morning to fix the shower.  So, I brought home some work and will work here while they do the repairs....or I'll watch them and end up staying up all  night getting ready for a hearing and depositions on Friday.  Who knows which it will be, lol

Hello all.  I don't have much time for an update, and catching up will have to happen later.  The flood waters are coming in our basement, and we've given up trying to stop them.  Jed and I are emptying everything out of the basement, and writing off the carpeting as a loss.  Our basement is also our TV/family room, so we are hauling recliners and tables and baby swings and bookshelves and other various crap up.  I'm only on a break because I need to nurse the baby.

Vibes would be nice, but really, we're not in that bad of shape compared to some of the other towns around here.  Some of the smaller Washington towns in the surrounding valleys are underwater right now.

I'm seriously thinking about building an ark.

I liked the episodes with Julie Sommars.

Yes, she and Andy make fun friendly adversaries. She was in two of the eight episodes I viewed today.

As I mentioned earlier, I did watch 8 episodes of MATLOCK today. All but one were standard mysteries even though the show is more like PERRY MASON where information is withheld from the audience until it's sprung in court. MURDER SHE WROTE always put the clues out there if you were observant enough to spot them which made that show more fun to play along with than MATLOCK. As I mentioned earlier today, one of the episodes was a COLUMBO-style show where we knew all along who was guilty and how he did it.

One of the episodes was called "The Network" and it was peppered with cameo appearances by stars from NBC's then-hit shows: Betty White, Alf, Corbin Bernsen, Jason Bateman, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, but I enjoyed more seeing Cameron Mitchell as a real guest star in that episode.

Other guest stars in various episodes today: Dick Butkas, Scott Bakula looking trés gorgeous, Robert Culp, Ralph Bellamy.

Hmm... It's been interesting watching the different commercials for "Doubt". One makes it look like a almost-horror/thriller movie.  Another one makes it look like a great whodunit.  And another one is just a listing of all the nominations and awards they're up for right now.  I guess it's good to cover all your bases.

I liked tonight's season premiere of "Damages" too, and it will be interesting to see just how many more twists they will introduce as the season unfolds.  I lost track of all the ones that were presented or teased at tonight.

*And Glenn Close's Cadillac commercial after the commercial-free presentation provided a good laugh after the program.  ;)

**And then when I changed over to Letterman, Rose Byrne was the guest and sporting her Australian accent too!

Law and order - Maureen - spoiler

Dear friend (and BK co-star in Last Starfighter NYMF readings) Maureen's part was entirely in the first fifteen minutes or so, and had Maureen not mentioned that she had a deposition scene, I might not have known to keep watching for her.  So if anyone taped it or DVR'd it, she does appear as the lawyer (wearing blue) in the deposition later on, even though she's one of the victims before the credits.
