Well, you've read the notes, the notes finally achieved pith, and now it is time for you to post until the pithy cows come home.

And the word of the day is: COLUMBARIUM!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Jed!! ;D
-
Tonight, I'm going to Seattle see BK's close and personal friend, Stephen Sondheim in conversation with Frank Rich (http://www.seattlesymphony.org/symphony/buy/single/production.aspx?id=8337)! I have to leave work a little early to get up there in time, but it starts at 8:00 pm, so I don't have to leave too early. I wish I had a tiny video camera to covertly film the evening ;) ...but I don't. :P
If they do like they did in Portland, Oregon (last year when I had a ticket but couldn't go...I gave the ticket to a friend), we can write questions on cards and Sondheim answer some of them. What should I ask??
-
I cannot get used to our calendar - I thought Jed's birthday was tomorrow! I'll go add it to the notes.

Happy Jed Day!!!

! ! ! ! ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR JED ! ! ! ! !
-
Good morning, all! I feel better today than yesterday, but i'm still feeling groggy and not quite awake. This morning I have another trek to Toyland, and later in the day my first round of physical therapy on my left shoulder.
DR Jose, I was invited to the Loesser event several weeks ago and I turned them down in case I had any emergency work on FR. I was also feeling rather poorly at that time from the shoulder pains. I wish it well, and I think I'll send the conductor Brad a "break a leg" note. I believe Ashley Brown is doing my chart for "I Wish I Didn't Love You So," which I did for Linda Lavin in 1998 for the Wall-to-Wall Loesser at Symphony Space. Hopefully tonight's event will take some of the bad taste of the last GUYS & DOLLS revival away.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to DR Jed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TOD: Can't think of a single thing at the moment; all my Sondheim letters and signed editions are at the Miami U Library now. Beats me.
-
TOD:
Alexis Smith's Tony Award
-
I heard that Lou Jacobi had died over the weekend. He was 95.
-
Happy Birthday DR JED!
-
I am off to do some Monday things and return anon.
TOD:
Inscribed photo of Miss Frances Farmer - NOT from DR JMK's closet.
Two nice personal cards/letters from Miss Allison Hayes.

I would love to have a letter from Mr Sondheim! I do have a question for him. Do you think he would answer it if I wrote to him?
-
I would love to have a letter from Mr Sondheim! I do have a question for him. Do you think he would answer it if I wrote to him?
He used to be good about answering every letter (in the late 70's/early 80's). I don't know if that is still the case.

I think it is so cool that you have this! :)

I know that Jose wrote to him at one point and received a response IIRC. Isn't that true Mr. Jose?
-
DR JRand59 - thanks for the warning!!! :)
DR JRand I totally disagree with what you wrote about posting the ending to shows that eliminate someone without giving anyone a head's up.
Maybe you knew DR Mbarnum would not care. But there are other people who watch too. And i think it's up to each person to decide if they want to be spoiled.
-
I'm having lunch with Ginny, Richard and Anthony today. We will be having Chinese food at The Cottage.
-
Tonight instead of showing HOUSE Fox is having a special episode to highlight the top 20 on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
I'm curious to see how much of vegas they will show. If they do this show right (and don't just have the contestants dance) then i think it could be a great way to highlight dancers we've never seen.
Tomorrow is the first performance show (2 hours). My sis said she read in her tv that there will be no voting and that at the end of the show the judges will just eliminate 2 contestants. Not sure if this is true. But it could be an interesting way to do things to accomodate baseball on wednesday.

Happy Birthday to DR Jed!

Big ditto to that, DR Jennifer. Yes, these are all only tv shows, but I still like to be surprised. I'm glad that I did happen to catch TAR last night before I caught up with last night's posts this morning (I usually watch TAR a day delayed.) I would still appreciate spoiler warnings of some kind...

A HHW BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DR JED!!!
-
Happy Happy Birthday to Jed!
-
Monday morning greetings! We're having a lazy morning before we make our way down to Union Square to meet Ben and Anthony for lunch. Richard has just discovered the wedding announcements in yesterday's NY Times and has read me some of his favorite tidbits.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Jed!
-
Good morning!
Certainly seems like a fall morning here. Cool but not cold and not getting out of the 60s today. My favorite kind of weather.
-
I heard that Lou Jacobi had died over the weekend. He was 95.
I had lunch with him once. He was a very warm, fun person. Great sense of humor.
-
TOD:
I'd say my original set of WIZARD OF OZ plates which I have on the wall in my den.
-
I'm anticipating a pleasant day off today. I have two HD movies on the DVR: SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and PAUL BLART MALL COP. I also have MONK from last Friday, and last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS and MAD MEN. SHould make for a really nice day.
Of course, if by some miracle that Fox Blu-ray of ICE AGE 3 should show up, my day off would be a day on and I'd be back to work.
-
DR JRand59 - thanks for the warning!!! :)

Maybe you knew DR Mbarnum would not care. But there are other people who watch too. And i think it's up to each person to decide if they want to be spoiled.
Well, DR Jennifer, I do more than sit around watching tv so I don't invest a great deal in tv viewing, but I try to tape the shows I miss, if I really want to see them. I then watch them ASAP. In this world of instant media, I refuse to let a spoiler dim my appreciation of a show. It's only TV and it's usually a rehash of someone else's plot. My feeling is, if it's an awards show, it's good not to spoil it for viewers on the West Coast who catch it later, but on a series, I feel the next day's log enough.
-
In addition to DR Jennifer's little reminder about HOUSE being preempted for a special edition of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, there are a couple of other notes about tonight's viewing:
the CBS line-up of comedies and CSI: MIAMI are all in repeats tonight.
TRAUMA tonight reveals a gay character among its regular cast. I plan to watch just to see what's up with that. SInce I've dropped HEROES, the only Monday show still in my rotation is CASTLE.
-
Happy Birthday to occasional DR Jed.
-
Sorry, I do not wish to get dragged into the SPOILER debate, which seems to rear its head here every so often. I have my own views on this, which I shall not share.
My comment to JRand59 was in regards to his post on the Titanic book(s).
Thank you. We now return you to your regular HHW programming.

Speaking of last night's THE AMAZIN' RACE:
SPOILER WARNINGS:
I agree/disagree with some of the comments made last night. For one thing, I think that many contestants realize beforehand that they have a fear of heights, water, etc., but they see the race as an opportunity to face and overcome those fears. For me, it's one of the delights of the show when we see a contestant come face to face with a task or stunt that they would have never even imagined themselves doing otherwise and they do go through with it. The girl last night (Mika?) obviously was not ready to confront her fears and. yes, that was a major disappointment, even though I didn't really care for this team to begin with. But what her partner attempted to do struck me as horrible and close to criminal. You do not overpower and physically force someone to anything, let alone push them into something that they are not willing to do! The guy was more than just a jerk! There are other ways to handle a situation like that--remember last year when the two sisters were stuck at the swimming pool because the younger one was deathly afraid of water? The older did cajole, but she kept telling her sister that she would support her whether she went through with it or not. Her sister's mental well-being was more important to her than losing a million dollar competition. And then the jerk had the balls to say that HE forgives HER? Give me a break...
Likewise, the Globetrotters are also on my shit list. Yes, you want to do everything you can to win, but they crossed that line. Out-and-out unsportsmanlike behavior. Looking forward to their auffing...
-
I don't think a competitive television show is the best place to face one's fears and phobias, especially if your partner is in it not for fun but to win a million dollars. That is, unless one got it straight before the race ever started that these might be issues and that it might cost them the race. Then the partner could decide if he wanted to participate under those conditions or not.
Perhaps once they found out they were cast, they might have sought out some place to work on those phobias ahead of time. I think trying to deal with something that is that paralyzing "under the gun" is foolish and likely unproductive.
-
Now I'm heading downstairs to check for any UPS deliveries, clean my bedroom, and then get cleaned up myself for lunch outing today with best friend John.
WBBL.
-
Happy Birthday, Jed.
I hope that wasn't a spoiler.
-
Off for a friend-filled Monday in NYC...bye for now!
-
DR DtM - Mr Sondheim answered a question via mail for me. I think if you write, you will probably receive an answer in return.

That's why I stopped posting anything about ANY g&^$d*#n television show. Being chastised on a public board about what I can and CANNOT write is ridiculous.
So I will just refrain from writing anything about television and make one or two people happy.

In approximately 15 minutes we will be sitting down to Chinese food (or at least ordering said food) with Ginny and Richard.

Sorry, Kerry, not quick enough ;D

I also never post about television shows. Or the fact that I like Canadian geese.

I like Canadian geese.
Broiled or fried?

I'd post about television shows, but I fear no one save for JR is interested in Frances Farmer Presents. ;)

I have five (count 'em) reviews I really should get written today, and yet I am here posting to no one reading. ;)
-
At least I got us to page 3, so BK will be happy, even though he will not notice who achieved this momentous task.
-
Among my reviews is the kind of interesting 2L audio Blu-ray release of a bunch of Grieg's music, with Grieg himself memorialized via piano rolls, as well as one of his favorite interpreters, Percy Grainger. Interesting, not especially successful. ;)
-
At least I got us to page 3, so BK will be happy, even though he will not notice who achieved this momentous task.
But it's not because he (and everyone else) doesn't read your posts, it's because you're a LESBIAN!!!

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm thinking I might go out for a brief walk around the neighborhood. Then once I'm done with that and back in my apartment, I'll decide if I need to crawl back into bed for another hour or so. Just feeling a little groggy and foggy-headed. I think.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR JED!!!

That is indeed true, Mr. Ben. In fact, I wrote to him a couple of times and received responses each time. You can basically ask him anything, but...
-Even though he likes solving cryptograms and other word puzzles, he doesn't appreciate having to "solve" correspondence. -And I'm just glad I didn't have to solve his response. Whew!
-If you share an opinion with him about one his shows, be prepared to have him share his opinion of your opinion with you. Ouch!
*I have no idea where my stash of those little white envelopes is currently located/stored.
-
He did send me a photo as well, which was nice. I am not sure if his address is the same.
I just watched a documentary about the rock group THE MONKS. Very interesting.

They're probably in the back of that drawer with BK's sleeping shorts.

SPOILER
The purpose of posting SPOILER alerts about the discussion of a show is a "courtesy" to other readers...readers whom, ostensibly, we consider part of a "family." Frankly, except as a courtesy to allow for the 3-hour delay between east coast and west coast airings of awards shows (except the Oscars, which are live everywhere), there's really no point in posting next-day "Spoiler" warnings about winners. They're on the news and in newspapers.
We cannot all watch a show when it airs. We cannot all go see a movie at the same time. But this should not deter anyone from discussing it. The SPOILER notification alerts those who haven't watched a show, or seen a movie, to pass on by.
Perhaps BK could establish a time moratorium on SPOILER-LESS discussion. Perhaps 24 hours, perhaps 48, before a show's plots/developments can be freely discussed without the courtesy of alerting someone who may not have watched the show.
After that time period, everyone would then know to read at their own peril.
Just my 2 cents.
END SPOILER

SPOILER:
The Titanic sinks.

Camille dies from a really bad cough.

I believe that exhausts my supply of spoilers. :)

And you're being pithy about it, too.
-
Too bad BK couldn't have worked "Vinegar" into today's notes.
The daily subject line could have been "Pith and Vinegar".
-
TOD: Too hard to choose one....the signature of "Alfred Newman" on a Beverly Hills Hotel registration slip...an autograph of "Erich Wolfgang Korngold"...a windowcard for "Mack and Mabel"...a copy of the LP for "Hello, Dolly!" autographed by Carol Channing and Jerry Herman...signed contracts by Hugo Friedhofer, Alfred Newman and Jerome Moross...
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
-My copy of the piano/vocal score to Sunday in the Park with George.
-Monkey
-The scarf I bought when I was 15 or 16-years old - mainly because I haven't lost it or left it someplace after all these years.
-
Why is it Monday. Why couldn't today be Saturday.
-
Because if it was Saturday I would have to go to work.
-
Vinegar is somewhere in today's notes.
-
SPOILER ALERT
I like Ron's idea of twenty-four hours - how does that sit with everyone?
-
Oh, and I'm up, have answered a lot of e-mails, printed out a few orders (Cry For Us All was just reviewed favorably on Playbill, and whenever that happens there's suddenly some orders).

DR Jrand, I hope that you will continue to post about your favorite tv shows. I enjoy reading your thoughts.
I also hope you didn't think i was berating you. I just noticed that you had mentioned who got eliminated on last night's TAR while the show was still on. And since you hadn't mentioned the title of the show (just the names) in your post i just thought you might want to fix your post.
re: the 24 hour thing BK and DR RonP proposed.
I think there is a difference between posting a surprise ending/elimination. Vs just talking about a show.
If you're talking about a show i think it's fine to just name the show before you start talking about it. That way if someone hasn't watched yet that week they can avoid it.
I know i don't always watch shows 24 hours after they are on, so that doesn't really do anything for me.
I think that we should just do what we've been doing. Putting the title of the show in the post. And trying to be considerate.

DR Ginny, I guess I read the number of times you have to walk the stairs incorrectly. I'm glad you have more time to enjoy NY.
-
It's been too rainy to get really good colors in the trees in my neighborhood, but maybe later in the week - it will be good for a photo.
DR DAW that is a lovely palette.
-
No convents nearby, huh? ;)
HawHaw Haw! That is so PITHY, DAW! :)
Speaking of colors:
My mom went to Asheville NC for a couple of days last year. The weather, she said, was beautiful but she was a little disappointed that except for leaves that had turned red, there was very little orange and yellow to give that wonderful autumnal glow to the landscapes.
My boss returned this morning from New Hampshire and reported that there were no reds, but there were plenty of orange leaves and yellow leaves.
Sigh.
Here...we have green....and bare....trees lose their leaves all-too-often before they can actually turn colors and amaze us.
-
DR Ginny, I guess I read the number of times you have to walk the stairs incorrectly.
I must have missed this.
Did she walk up the stairs backwards?
-
DR DAW that is a lovely palette.
"Palette"! That's the word I couldn't remember when I was dealing with the TOD.
Another treasure is a palette used during a performance of Baz Luhrmann's "La Bohme" on Broadway...and autographed by all the stars (save one) and by Luhrmann and the music director. It's quite an objet that I have not found a proper way to display (it requires a lucite box, I think.

But enough about your new pantyhose.

STRANGE THING DEPARTMENT:
I awoke Saturday morning with the mission of watching shows I'd missed that were in my DVR cache.
First thing I noted was that Friday's "Dollhouse" did not record despite having been scheduled to record. DRAT.
Then I noticed something VERY ODD. My cache was 92% full.
HUH? How could that be. I counted the shows I had recorded. Each was an hour-long show (save one) and each should have taken up 5% of my cache. I have movies saved that take up 23%, so I figured the six shows saved should have taken up another 30%....or, 53%. However, I recorded that LA Philharmonic concert on PBS last Thursday evening. It was, IIRC, two hours...possibly three. But at most, that should have been 15% of my DVR cache memory.
At a loss as to what had happened -- and facing the fact that I would not be watching the concert any time soon -- I deleted it.
And what do you think?
It was 50% of my cache!!!!!! The recorded programs went from 92% to 42%. ACK!
What the heck kind of signal were they transmitting do you suppose?

At the Naval academy one of the requirements for graduation was that we swim a mile fully clothed (less shoes) and that we jump into the water from large height. The latter was accomplished by climbing up a rope ladder to a small platform suspended from the ceiling of the Natatorium. I was less than thrilled with the idea, but I did manage to do it (climbing the ladder was freakier than the jump). My roomrate chickened out and climbed back down. At the end of the class he was given one last chance. There was poor Hal up on the platform frozen with terror. It was obvious the boy was not jumping! I swam out to the rope, climbed the nasty beast and confronted Hal. (I was forwarned that if he was pushed the jump didn't count.) I convinced him to stand on the edge - then to put his feet half-over. I then got behind him and used my stage-hypnosis skills to get him to lean out over the water - once teetering, it was an easy job to surreptitiously use one foot to nudge one of his so he lost his balance- down he went, and he was able to continue on to graduation.
Of course now I had to contemplate climbing back down the ladder or jumping again (with a whole class of witnesses) - well, in this case pride cameth before a jump.

Look at it this way--at least someone's reading your posts, LOL. I sometimes go for months around here without getting a response. ;)
Oh Look! JMK is here, haven't read one of his posts in months ;)
Evidently RLP is the only one who regularly reads my posts. Go know. ;D

Before I went to lunch, I watched BROTHERS & SISTERS. I enjoyed the entire episode. "Luc" is so gorgeous, he makes my teeth hurt (I thought the same thing when he was in the SEX AND THE CITY movie). Everyone gawking at him was SO true to life. I thought Sally Field had several memorable moments last night.
Best of all, Holly finally had something go wrong in her life. She's been gleefully hovering over the Walkers for three years almost cackling like a witch with their bad luck and now she has her own misfortune to circumnavigate. I LOVED it.
(I noticed the Olins have let another of their brood join the show. Didn't she play the lover of the soap star Kevin was involved with during season one, or was that another one of Ken Olin-Patricia Wettig's children?)
-
When I got in from lunch, I watched PAUL BLART MALL COP. It's a totally formulaic movie, as I suspected it would be. There were one or two moments of fun, but so much was ridiculous. Nice to see Jayma from GLEE as his love interest. (Jayma, honey, Matthew Morrison is a MUCH better fit for you.)
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, and nothing was in the previews either.
-
ONE LIFE TO LIVE was wonderful, though, and tomorrow's episode might be even better.

I ended my afternoon watching last night's MAD MEN. Good episode with the John Slattery scenes especially superb. And I suspect this will be Jon Hamm's Emmy submission episode.

Good Afternoon!
I finally made it out of my apartment a few hours ago. It feels like Fall again here in NYC, and I had a nice walk down from 145th Street to 116th. I'm currently cooling my heels on/in the Quad at Columbia University, always a nice place to watch the sunset. And the co-eds.

I'm back with my physical therapist Gurjeet, and he and his assistant Jennifer were happy to see me back. I have a shoulder impingement, not a bad rotator cuff, and he thinks I will be fine when the swelling inside my shoulder goes down. I also had a great day at Toyland, working out what needs to be accomplished to finish volume two of the supplementary scores for BABES IN TOYLAND: various concert and dance pieces derived from the score for commercial usage and the four new numbers written for the German adaptation Spielland.

Personally, other than awards shows, I don't see the need for spoilers. However, at the same, I don't watch reality shows, so my opinion shouldn't count.

In the days, before recording technology, there wouldn't be a need for spoilers. Actually, I figure a bit of spacing to warn a person who hasn't watched the show yet would suffice.

It really was. I had sort of planned to venture a little further south than 116th Street, but it really was so nice just sitting in the Quad at Columbia, sunset-watching, people-watching. It also turned out that the Wafels & Dinges Truck (http://www.wafelsanddinges.com/) was set up by CU this afternoon too, and they were paid a visit by Bobby Flay and his "Throwdown" crew! They moved the actual throwdown indoors, but it was fun seeing some of the Food Network crew guys running around with waffle irons.

Had a really good work session - I've finally figured out the composer of the long musical is good for two hours, then he fades. So, we did a really good two hours and I suggested we reconvene tomorrow, which we will. I then went to Hugo's for lunch. Picked up a package and some mail, and am now answering e-mails and about to listen to the Holy Grail part of that two-fer. I did some fixes to a couple of tracks after I heard it last night, and I think I've finally made a really difficult decision, although it will depend somewhat on how long the second score ends up being. The decision was whether to include the source music tracks as a bonus. They're okay, but in both cases are not really part and parcel of the scores - it's music used for coming out of radios or at a dance, etc. I'd already made the decision not to incorporate that stuff into the score tracks as it occurs in the films themselves, because it's so disruptive to the beauty of the scores. Originally, given the length of my reference CDs I thought this would have to go out as a two CD set - but if I don't use the source cues on the Holy Grail score, then that runs only 34 minutes (48 with the source cues). So, that would allow approximately 42 minutes of the other score. That one had a lot of source cues and when all the blank spaces at the beginnings and ends of tracks get removed and all my edits are incorporated and tightly done, we might just squeeze by at forty-two minutes and if we do, then it can be one CD, which is what I prefer. For the second score the source music is especially uninteresting. And for the Holy Grail score, after the score is done you just don't want to hear that other stuff - it's like it's from a different film altogether. If we HAD to go to two CDs then I have no choice but to put the source cues on both, but I'd much rather not. I should have my answer by tomorrow evening.

DR DERBRUCER - As for yesterday's mention of Monkey Bread (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=2300.msg617781#msg617781)...
Amy's Bread (http://www.amysbread.com) here in NYC serves "Monkey Cake" (http://www.amysbread.com/hellsp.htm). However, they do sell something called a "Cinnamon Pull Apart" every now and then which is similar to "Monkey Bread". In any case...
I'm sort of surprised the article didn't mention the classic Monkey Bread "cheat": pre-made (frozen) bread dough or biscuit dough. In a way, it sort of reminded me of those "from scratch" recipes for "Green Bean Casserole" and "Dump Cake". Sometimes all of those refinements take the "comfort" out of "comfort food". True comfort food should not only be a comfort to eat, but also to make.

I had a full evening of viewing, and I got to see many things.
I began with last Friday's MONK episode. This was the one with Bitty Schram returning in a guest role as Sharona, Monk's original "assistant." (More like caretaker.) It was an OK mystery, and while it was nice to see Bitty again, I think I prefer Natalie now to Sharona.
-
Certainly send all good wishes to Michelle!

Then I watched SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. It's a fine film, and while I understood why Boyle won Best Director, I really don't get why the movie was such a darling of Hollywood. Now, I haven't seen the other three nominated movies for Best Picture from last year (I've only seen MILK and now SLUMDOG), but I have to say I couldn't understand EIGHT Oscars going to this.
-
Then I watched the last PERRY MASON episode on disc one from the Season 1 set that I started weeks ago but had to put on hold due to the influx of so many work discs.
Mason was out of his element trying a case in a small town. He won, of course, but it was funny seeing him completely overpower the small little courtroom and townsfolk.
-
I concluded my evening with tonight's TRAUMA. It's a very mediocre series. Has some good actors (Jamey Sheridan is one of the doctors; Larry Sullivan was a guest star tonight), but unlike GREY'S ANATOMY, you don't get to spend long enough with the emergency patients, so nothing really takes hold. The gay storyline was pretty cookie-cutter in construction and execution.

I'm not sure if this accounts for the eight Oscars, but...
I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" in a movie theatre. Twice. And I have to say that both times the energy in the theatre was truly electric, visceral. Everyone was just with the movie, and that just added to the excitement of the whole movie watching experience.
I'm wondering if the "feel good" aspect of "Slumdog" gave it the edge over "Milk" and the other nominees.

Feel good/wish-fulfillment fantasy type movie I'm sure played a major part in its triumph. Maybe after all the horrible economic news of last year, something like this was what people needed to lift their spirits.
I found it very good, but I'd never classify it as a great movie. I would have given Best Picture to WALL-E over this, hands down. (Of course, WALL-E wasn't nominated.) I'm sure I'll get around to BENJAMIN BUTTON, FROST/NIXON, and THE READER in the next couple of months.

I have now climbed the stairs for the last time, under the influence of Doug's killer cosmopolitans and a lovely dinner wine. We had stuffed pork chops, mixed harvest veggies, and broccoli for dinner and key lime somethings from Magnolia Bakery for dessert. He and Jon are wonderful hosts.

Our day started with a delightful lunch with Ben and Anthony at The Cottage. Afterwards, Anthony escorted Richard and me to the Strand bookstore and then to FedEx/Kinkos for me to ship my Dawn Powell haul back to Ohio. Anthony put us on the 6th Ave. bus and we went to Lincoln Center to see the 50th anniversary exhibit at the NYPL and happened across a recital of material from new musicals. We only stayed for about half of that before proceeding to our friends' home for dinner.
A lovely Monday in Manhattan.

Recovery vibes to Michelle Nicastro!

I also never post about television shows. Or the fact that I like Canadian geese.
really? How do you cook them?
-
BK, does Michelle Nicastro ever read posts here?
-
DR JRand59 - thanks for the warning!!! :)
DR JRand I totally disagree with what you wrote about posting the ending to shows that eliminate someone without giving anyone a head's up.
Maybe you knew DR Mbarnum would not care. But there are other people who watch too. And i think it's up to each person to decide if they want to be spoiled.
I would like to be spoiled
-
I also never post about television shows. Or the fact that I like Canadian geese.
there are several thousand of them busy fertilizing any open space they can find on Long Island available for the taking - come and get 'em
-
I'd post about television shows, but I fear no one save for JR is interested in Frances Farmer Presents. ;)
I'm interested in presents
-
oh Presents
never mind

TOD

Vibes for Michelle Nicastro. We don't hold that whole Fidel-Cuba thing against you at all.
What?
-
TOD
No, it wasn't Zen. :)
-
Vibes for Michelle Nicastro. We don't hold that whole Fidel-Cuba thing against you at all.
What?
Hmm... Maybe it is all for the better that no one reads your posts.
-
I hope your Holy Grail works out the way you want it to.
I believe that was one of the last things said to Jacques de Molay. ;)
-
Have any of the other "gifted" (the term in the email, not mine) people on the site received the invitation to move to Branson and take part in the new Christian music show that's starting this fall? They're supposedly guaranteeing 50K minimum annual salaries.
-
As for SPOILER Warnings...
Since no one was "spoiled" this time 'round, can we please just drop the discussion? I think the point has been made.
Again.
And again.
It's like pouring salt on a wound that never existed.
Nice try, DR JOSE - but spoilers on HHW and Amelia Earhart's disappearance are the two most hotly discussed items on the whole of the inner web.
Along with DR JMK's lesbianism.
I don't think JMK posts here any longer, does he?
-
For you Stravinsky fans, there's an incredible new Blu-ray (and probably SD-DVD, too, though I haven't checked) streeting tomorrow. It's a Ballet Russes recreation of the original Diaghelev/Nijinsky versions of Firebird and Rite of Spring. It's astoundingly good and pretty wonderful to see. Unfortunately, they don't have anyone standing in the wings screaming out the count (a little joke for the cognoscenti).
-
The above is, of course, a rhetorical post.
-
Vibes for Ms Michelle Nicastro from Indiana.
-
DR VIXMOM - of course there was the day Frances had very low blood pressure and looked into the wrong camera and welcomed her audience to "Frances Farmer Prevents....."
-
DR JANE - loving the Sherlock in Carmel photos! What fun!
-
Many healthy vibes to Michelle Nicastro.
-
Wow.....for having such a fine cast..... Leslie Caron, Warren Beatty, Hermione Gingold, Gladys Cooper, and to a lesser extent Bob Cummings..... PROMISE HER ANYTHING has a nice title tune and not much else to recommend it.
CD vibes for MR BK.
Is the CD from the other company that we are waiting for soon to be released?
I still don't have BANANAS/SEX....mostly perplexing.....but I am sure it will show up.
-

I actually know the people who are putting that show together. The salary is guaranteed. However, a chunk of that salary would end up going toward rent since housing is not included in the package.
-
I want a thunder/lighting storm.
-
That, of course, was a rhetorical response to a rhetorical post. ;D
-
I want a thunder/lighting storm.
And I want ice cream.
-
I want colors changing at my house.
-
Rudolf Nureyev and Leslie Caron will be in VALENTINO a bit later on this evening on TCM. I have the video, but haven't really seen the movie since its release many years ago.
I may see if I can make it to the ending.
-
Dammit. NOW I want ice cream.
-
Without spoilers, I'd be clueless.
-
DR VIXMOM - of course there was the day Frances had very low blood pressure and looked into the wrong camera and welcomed her audience to "Frances Farmer Prevents....."
Low blood pressure....yeah, that's the ticket. ;)
-
Great pics everyone. Thank you.
;D
-
I am evidently SKYPE-ing with the L.A. producer on Wednesday. It sounds a bit unseemly, if you ask me.
-
How are the sick ones today, Cillaliz?
I've been IMing with SunDee. Adam is getting better, but coughing a lot, Gabe has a fever and she is starting to cough, but all are doing ok
My sister is much better. It seems to run its course in about 6 days
-
I don't get the pooping candy. They have one version or another for every holiday imaginable.
The zit candy was just gross.
-
LOTS OF HEALTHY AND HAPPY VIBES FOR EVERYONE.
-
I just read this story... And, yes, it made me cry... But in a good way...
For those DRs who have already seen Finian's Rainbow, well...
From No Home to Back Home on Broadway (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/27/nyregion/27bigcity.html)
"A year after being homeless, Terri White is back on Broadway with a showstopper in “Finian’s Rainbow.”"
-
Night all.
That's it.
I'm tired and boring.

Vibes for Ms. Michelle Nicastro from California.

Travel vibes to Ginny and Richard

Jrand, if it doesn't show up by Friday we'll send you another. Funnily, I've had three recent e-mails from people who haven't received their packages - I'm talking about weeks here, and I've asked them to wait another day or two before having me send the replacement and in each case the CD finally showed up the next day. I don't know what's going on, really.
-
BK- thanks for the email.

bk - I know we've mentioned this before, but... If you're still hand-writing out your labels, that increases the chances of a package getting delayed and mis-sent since the USPS uses automatic sorting machines which "read" the labels. If the scanner can't read the label, it gets "set aside" for hand-sorting.
I know you've been resistant to hooking into the USPS site and pre-printing the labels, but you could just use Word and use the "Labels" feature there - and have the barcodes print out too.

Question about the original soundtrack of "Arthur" I remember a while back around these parts, bk mentioned that the soundtrack was only available as a Japanese import. Now, I see it on iTunes. Does anyone know if this complete or just a few tracks.

Oh... I didn't realize it was this late already...
Goodnight.

Yes, but I wanted to know if those 8 tracks were the same ones on the original

DR Matthew - Here's the Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Arthur-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B001CY1YR6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1256622569&sr=8-1) listing for the "Arthur" soundtrack. From the "Product Description", it looks like it may be complete.

DR Jose- thanks it all matches up

Many thanks to one and all, all and one, for the lovely birthday wishes! Kicked off my time as a 30-year-old by attending the Sondheim appearance in Seattle this evening. Ran into DR George in the lobby beforehand. Had a grand time hearing tales of Merman, Gingold, Stritch, et al. Just wish they could have kept on for another hour or so!
