Title: A PARADE IN TOWN
Post by: bk on October 30, 2009, 12:49:50 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a parade, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're a parade, too.

Thanks for the Parade report, BK.  I've always liked the recording (especially the performers), and it's nice to know that a show can be changed for the better...not just changed for the sake of being changed. :)

In my DVD burner (for my dad):  the remastered F. W. Murnau's "Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horrors," recorded on TCM last week.  Also, "Directed by John Ford," a documentary by Peter Bogdanovich that was originally made in 1971, shown on TV a couple of times, then forgotten until 2006.  Peter redid some things, added some new interviews and re-released (or maybe just rebroadcast) it.  My dad loves John Ford movies.

Good morning!

It's moderately gray outside this morning which is something of a surprise since today was supposed to be sunny before a weekend of rain. I guess the clouds have rolled in earlier than expected.

I got up earlier than usual this morning, got my newspaper read, and then settled in with the rest of the bonus features from UP's first disc.

One of the great joys of Blu-ray (and of HD-DVD when it was around) is the more sophisticated ways that commentaries can be accomplished. I began this morning watching the Cine-Explore commentary which has the films's director and co-director doing commentary but with lots of picture-in-picture inserts of storyboards, sketches, recording studio behind-the-scenes shots, rough animation ideas for scenes that were discarded, etc. all illustrating what the two men are talking about. The DVD has the audio commentary alone, but these inserts really brings the commentary to life and makes it so much more enjoyable.

I watched the other features on the first disc, too, which included the cartoon short which preceded UP in theaters, another new short featuring the adorable character of Dug which seems like it could have been inserted into the movie (they do these with all of their animated features going back to MONSTERS INC.)

There's an interesting documentary on the expedition that members of the production team took to Venezuela scouting the locations for the film's fictional Paradise Falls area (the Angel Falls region is astounding).

And there was a featurette on the various ways they attempted to deal with the elimination of the villain in the movie, and we see lots of storyboard and rough animation ideas that they discarded.

Just a reminder:

UGLY BETTY is now on Friday nights. (Several friends of mine have missed the show's first two weeks of episodes because they don't link BETTY with Friday night.)

WHITE COLLAR has a new episode tonight following a new episode of MONK.

All of the usual Friday suspects (MEDIUM, GHOST WHISPERER, LAW & ORDER) are on tonight with new episodes.

I would be very interested in seeing that last featurette.  I was sort of shocked by how the villain was ultimately dealt with in UP, which I believe was a first for a Pixar film.

However, 2 nights ago I watched a very cute caper comedy, THE MAIDEN HEIST.  Stars Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, William H. Macy and Marcia Gay Harden.  It's well worth a look.

I have to remember to bring my camera today, because my niece is dressed up as Cinderella for daycare. Apparently a lot of the girls are disney princesses.

She can't wear that costume tomorrow because it will be too cold. although they are saying it will be 17C which is ridiculously hot for this time of year (it's around 65F). That would be amazing. Although it is supposed to rain tomorrow. Hopefully it will stop by 5pm.

It is quite interesting, and hearing the director talk about all the ideas and seeing some of them animated in rough form gives a fascinating insight into the multitude of decisions that have to be made before these films get released. No wonder they are years in development and production.

Good morning, all! I guess we are a hit, and hopefully our ticket sales will zoom. The mood at the party was that with our reviews there will definitely be a new recording very soon.

So, to the rest of my day after I signed off on HHW around 4:15: I arrived at the theatre with my packages around 5:10, and I went looking for Rob Berman, the musical director, to give him his gift as well as a copy of the new GOLDEN APPLE score that had fortuitously arrived in the mail yesterday. Rob took me down to the stage manager's office where there was a pile of gifts waiting for me. I set director Warren's gift on his pile of CDs, found Joshie and gave him his, and sat in on Warren's last notes to the cast. They were funny, sentimental, and very sweet. He told us he was the fifth director Encores! approached, and I can only say thank you, God, Jesus, Buddah, whoever, because any of those earlier four could have kiled this production. David Richenthal, our major producer wth Jack Viertel of Encores!, also spoke; he's been trying to get FINIAN'S RAINBOW into the works for several years. Then, at 6:00 we had the gypsy robe ceremony, which takes place on the stage. Since I'm an idiot, I coldn't tell you all the detals or exactly when the thing began around 1950 - I know CALL ME MADAM was either the first or second show to begin the tradition - or some of the order of the ceremony. At its end, the winner whose name I forget ran three times around the circle of guests in conter clockwise motion to touch everyone for luck. It was, like all logdge initiations, both a little silly and very moving.

Then the show, which played to a filled house of audience, family and friends of the cast, and it was quite an event, with lots of applause and three numbers bringing the show to a halt with big cheers and yells: "If This Isn't Love," and the two comedy numbers "Necessity" and "The Begat," the two numbers, incidentally, that were my fovorites when I first heard the entire 1960 cast recording. Everyone was really in topnotch form last night and the show played really solidly. the orchestra sounded fantastic, and Chris Fitzgerald's "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love" was a great 11 o-clock number. nly last night it was a great 10 o'clock number.

I have to run to physiical therapy, so I will tell about the party when I return.

TOD:
DVD: three Netflix items arrived in the mail yesterday. I have no idea what they are!
CD: A lot of Gilbert & Sullivan, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway
VCR: last night's REAL HOUSEWIVES reunion, some smut

Elmore, you must be in Seventh Heaven, except that show was a flop.  ;)

DR TD, I hope you know my comment yesterday (as in much of my HHW "oeuvre") was tongue in cheek.  Our local Border's has some really brain dead people.  I am typically told things are not in stock, or they have never heard of them, and then after spending several minutes poking around the store, I find what I've been looking for.  They're especially lame brained about their DVD/Blu-ray selection, which was downsized considerably last year.  In fact, I'm not sure if I've been back since they downsized, but I do have a wad of Border's Bucks to spend in November.

I only managed to get my MOROCCO review up yesterday, so today must be spent both finishing, taking screencaptures (which is really quite the chore due to interlacing artifacts which crop up even on progressive tv's due to the DVI splitter), and then writing up NATURAL BORN KILLERS as well as the most-awaited new release of the year, HD MOODS:  FIRE.  (Not).  And I have to get SUM OF ALL FEARS, an older catalog title, done, too.  I received a gigantic box of Digital Environments releases yesterday, too, but those are lower priority.  Unfortunately, they're also the hardest to review, as they are what I have termed "ambient television," basically wallpaper for your tv screen.

As for Parade...

I've always liked the score, and listen to it regularly (which means more than twice a year) just to keep it in my ear/head since the songs are frequently brought into auditions.  I never saw the original production, but wish I had - especially since I seemed to have worked with almost everyone who was in that show over the years.

*And I'm sort of glad(?) to hear that "Big News" has been cut - it still floors me every time anyone brings that song in for an audition.  Regardless of how well the singer knows it and how well the pianist knows it, that's definitely not a song that should be put together on the spot.  Just too many variables. Too many.

I don't mind saying on our discussion board that I HATED Parade when I saw it in NY - everything about it including the score.  But time has been good to it - all it takes is a plethora of junk for a decade for time to be good to something.  It's why some films that I thought were not so good from the 80s suddenly look much better now.  And I think the stripped-down orchestration really helps and the whole show seems more focused than it was in NY.  There are still things that bug me about it and that includes the lengthy Old Red Hills Of Home number.  One thing I really liked about this production was that the director took away all the buttons of the songs so that the crowd could not do that whooping and hollering after the big choral stuff - it worked, too - they couldn't do it - the only applause was after the opening number where there is a BEAT of silence so they got some in, and the same thing in act two's opening.

"Big News" and "Real Big News" are different songs, but they both are/were sung by Britt Craig (the wonderful Evan Pappas in the original production). "Big News" was a solo, while "Real Big News" has "back-up".

Everyone at physical therapy is in costume today, only last year Gurjeet and Jennifer were dressed as McCain and Palin, and this year they're victims of a serial killer with knives and huge implements thrust through their heads, with lots of fake blood.

So, last night's partay was at the Bryant Park Cafe hich is a narrow and long space; I didn't realize we had the entire building so I spent over half the partay wondering where the cast was. I saw musicians and their spouses, the book adapter and his family, Brian the copyist and his writing partner, and other friends including producers Kevin Spirtas and his mother and partner, Jamie deRoy and David Zippel, and I also met Rob Berman's wonderful family: mother, father, and brother John who used to work for Warner-Elektra.

Around 11:30, as I was heading out, I learned the OTHER SIDE of the building was where the cast was strutting their stuff, so I wandered over to visit with them and to meet Warren Carlysle's family who had flown in from the UK. I spent some time with Jack Viertel, who told me the reviews were looking good, Rob Berman's partner choreographer Chase Brock and Chase's talented designer, Joshie and a lot of his friends. I would not recommendthis space again for a huge party but I like the place and the food - especially the salmon - was really delicious.

I have a bag of gifts to open so my last post on the event will be what I was given. First, I have to tidy the apartment.

I guess my question is does Real Big News have different music - it seemed the same to me, but then I haven't heard the CD in ten years.

Hmmm... Well, I guess "Real Big News" could sort of be called a "reprise" of "Big News" without being a true reprise of the musical material.  -If that makes sense. Both songs are definitely in and of the character of Britt Craig.

True. and I shouldn't have put it that way.  One of Tommy Tune's strengths as a choreographer is taking something you might have see hundreds of times before and making it seem new and exciting (and in this case, just plain fun, too!)

When TWRF was done by a community theater group here, during that dance one of the dancers managed to thrust her stiletto heel clear through the foot of her neighbor.  Unbelievably, they finished the segment and the injured girl was then carted away by ambulance.

I really like the review from NEW YORK Magazine:

Charmed
by Stephanie Zacharek

Finian's Rainbow-the 1947 musical in which a horny leprechaun chases after anything in a skirt, a mute ballerina communicates via interpretive dance, and a racist white senator is turned black by a magic pot of gold-is one hot plate of crazy. And yet in a world where the Birthers are being taken semi-seriously, who couldn't use a pot of magic gold or two? It turns out that, for all its charming loopiness, Yip Harbug, Fred Saidy and Burton Lane's show-essentially a dream vision of an America without racism-is still a provocative work. This marvelous, slightly unhinged revival, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, succeeds because it refuses to wink at the material or treat it as quaint.

Two Irish emigres, the mischievous, tippling Finian (Jim Norton, in a springy, adamantly untwinkly performance) and his plucky daughter, Sharon (Kate Baldwin), show up in Rainbow Valley, Missitucky, to execute a get-rich-eventually scheme. They're welcomed by the locals, black and white alike, among them labor organizer and town hottie Woody (Cheyenne Jackson) and the sharecroppers who make their living in the valley's tobacco fields (their de-facto mother figure is the hip-rolling, straight-talking Dottie, played by ball-of-fire Terri White). Finian and Sharon end up on the very bad side of the bigoted Senator Rawkins (David Schramm), the fatcat who will soon become a hepcat (played by Chuck Cooper)-but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Carlyle and his cast run wild with the book's fanciful, sweetly Utopian spirit, but they also hit the play's satirical notes dead-on. (When one of the blustery white authority figures claims the now-black senator has been "demoted," the line pierces like a lancet.) In a change from the original staging, the new, improved version of Rawkins is played by a black actor instead of a white actor in blackface. It's a bold, necessary adjustment, just one way in which this show's pleasures are doled out in go-for-broke splashes instead of tasteful dabs. The musical numbers are colorful though never garish-the dancers, in their whirling circle skirts and drapey trousers, make for a cheerful, retro spectacle. Admittedly, some of the magic dust wears off in the second act: There isn't much of a plot, just a series of situations on which to hang songs. But what songs! Beyond the love-as-witchcraft sultriness of "Old Devil Moon," there's the wistful beauty of "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?", a ballad that speaks of homesickness not for a specific geographical location but for an elusive state of being-a place we'd happily put on a map, if only we could.

I got several opening night cards from the director, Rob Berman, the stage manager Tripp, and Joshie, whose card included a refrigerator magnet that said "What Happens Over the Rainbow Stays Over the Rainbow," another Yip Harburg rainbow reference but very apt. I was given a framed window card for the original FINIAN'S RAINBOW of 1947 and a copy of the original published libretto, a very very generous gift certificate for The Drama Book Shop, and a note pad with the logo and opeing night date. I also received beautiful flowers from my dear friend and DR TCB.

I'm ready for a nap.

True. and I shouldn't have put it that way.  One of Tommy Tune's strengths as a choreographer is taking something you might have see hundreds of times before and making it seem new and exciting (and in this case, just plain fun, too!)

DR Dan (The Man) - You were fine.  However... ;)

I suppose this was directed at me?  I'm sure you saw MY smiley face.  And yes, the Will Rogers Follies was designed to pay homage to classic follies numbers - in the case of this one, it's a little more than homage, but first off, I understand this was Jeff Calhoun's number (correct me if I'm wrong), and second off he topped it with the hats and tambourines.

Then again, I used to give Tommy Tune huge credit for that choreography in Grand Hotel with the two ballroom dancers, which I thought was just brilliant.  It was - but it wasn't Tune at all - it was those two dancers, and they were, in fact, given credit, albeit in the staff listings in the back of the program.

PROJECT RUNWAY SPOILER:

I got my greatest satisfaction in the announcement of last night's winner.  And most especially gratifying was that hateful look in the pea-green-with-envy eyes of Irina.  Yes, she tried to throw Althea under the bus with the presumption that she, Irina, had been copied by Althea.  How upsetting, then, for Irina that Althea's "look" had been deemed BETTER than her own!

Have him check out a film that our friend, editor Sam Pollard directed:
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/database/ford_wayne.html

It airs on PBS from time to time...don't know if it's available on DVD but it's very good!

At home I had all kinds of weird INNER WEB goings on....hopefully it will be fixed when I get home.  Who knows?

I am still intrigued and excited about the costumes for curtain call....is this how everyone is dressed for the finale.....or is this a whole new look?  It is so BROADWAY and it flatters everyone!

Those costumes are for the wedding/final scene of the show. And the curtain call.  And, yes, it is very BROADWAY and flattering.

That's funny! We wrapped the Johnny Mercer editing room last night and my assistant asked me if I wanted copies of anything. Not to abuse the privlege , the only thing I asked for was a copy of The King of Jazz.

Side note: King of Jazz featured The Rhythm Boys, with a very young Bing Crosby and Harry Barris, uncle of Chuck Barris.

I want the suit that Cheyenne Jackson is wearing, although it would look different on me, being a different body type and all.

And of course Mr Jackson wore a Tuxedo to the Party.  Very classy.....

Which reminds me of a report given by Miss Louella Parsons at a Hollywood premiere:

"Many men came in tuxedoes....and others in taxi cabs."

I really should see PARADE one day, since the story is so close to home. Beside Mary Phagan being buried across the street from our house in Marietta, I met my ex-husband when he was playing in a club on the site where the lynching took place. (Didn't know it at the time.) And the families of the lynch mob are some of Marietta's most prominent citizens!

That should have told me something right there!

DR JRand59, everyone in the curtain call is wearing their costumes from the wedding scene before Sharon is sentenced to be burned at the stake for witchcraft, a Harburg dig at the ultra-conservative mindset I really love; the show ends at the "Crack of Dawn" wherein, like good Shakespeare, all plots are resolved. At last night's curtain call all of the swings -  Brian Sears, Lauren Lim Jackson, Grasan Kingsberry, and Elisa van Duyne - took a bow as well. I think that's really wonderful.

Well, maybe I blocked it out too.  However, I actually do remember the curtain call since the finale at the time featured a whole slew of characters from "future" Anne Rice, "Lestat" books.  Due to the lavishness and size of those costumes, the characters had to stay on stage.  -Which, of course, ended up confusing the audience - myself included - even more since "we" were applauding characters/actors that had not appeared earlier in the show.  -But those costumes did make for a nice lobby display in the Time-Warner Center once the show came into NYC. ::)

UGLY BETTY is now on Friday nights. (Several friends of mine have missed the show's first two weeks of episodes because they don't link BETTY with Friday night.)

WHITE COLLAR has a new episode tonight following a new episode of MONK.

Does that mean that NUM3ERS is not new tonight?

Carlos.  -Which, I believe is from my mother's side of the family in some way or another.

When I was in grade school, my mom preferred that I sign my name as "J. Carlos" since there were "too many Jose's", and that "Jose" made me seem "Spanish".  -And "Carlos" is less Spanish?  I still remember never really knowing how to fill out those standardized test forms - the ones with all the circle.  -Was my first name "J." or was it "J. Carlos"?  I finally rebelled sometime in 4th or 5th grade, and started signing my name as "Jose".  Although, "Jojo" has always been my "home name" since my Dad is also "Jose" - but we have a different middle name, so I'm not a "Jr.".

When I went through my Confirmation in the third grade, I took on the adopted name of Patrick.  I sort of misunderstood the purpose of the name and began to insert it into my full name, calling myself Daniel John Patrick.  That seemed to be a lot for my schoolmates to wrap their mouths around, so I shortened it to Daniel J. P.  I signed all my school work and any other documents that way up until I was in my late 20s.  I stopped doing it when someone advised that it probably turned off potential employers.

But as pretentious as it was, it was generally a good conversation starter. And I liked it when friends began calling me "JP" in high school and college.

True. and I shouldn't have put it that way.  One of Tommy Tune's strengths as a choreographer is taking something you might have see hundreds of times before and making it seem new and exciting (and in this case, just plain fun, too!)

Thanks for the report, Larry!  Sounds like it was a grand evening!! ;D

My "A" stands for Allan - my mother's father's first name.  Like Jose, different from my father's middle name, so I'm not a Jr.

Although I am the seventh generation in my family to have the same first and last name.  And, sadly, the last.

That is a bit sad, name wise anyway.  So far Keith's family does not have any boys born a generation after us to carry on the last name.

He may know.  He seems to like the camera.  More often than not I pull the camera out when I see him posed, and then he rushes up to me.  I usually have to place him & put him on a wait command.  If I'm lucky he stays where I put him.  For the last photo, he was posing on his own. :)

You know it occurrs to me we have a lot of three-initialed people here.  I'm curious what everyone's middle letter stands for.  Mine is Michael, after my father, though he had Americanized his name from the original Hebrew Meyer.

My "A" stands for Allan - my mother's father's first name.  Like Jose, different from my father's middle name, so I'm not a Jr.

My middle name is Patrick.  My dad and I have the same first name, but he doesn't have a middle name, so I'm not a Jr., either.

Have him check out a film that our friend, editor Sam Pollard directed:
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/database/ford_wayne.html

It airs on PBS from time to time...don't know if it's available on DVD but it's very good!

Thanks for info, Edi!  I'll watch for it.

I'm wondering if the dress looks off in the picture because the lighting color looks off due to all the cameras and lighting?  She's quite ravishing in green. However, I did hear that she LOVED the Jimmy Choo's she had on last night.

Hmmm, I think you are right about the jigsaw puzzle.  I took a few more photos today & the last one is my favorite.  I got excited when I snapped it.  Since I'm trying to share them in order it will be the last photo.

Since the story about Teri White is a feature, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to access it later via the News section on CBS.com.

Thanks for letting me know about this.  But, I've seen news segments on-line that were edited because of music content. :-\

Well, here's the print version of the story from CBS.com:

From a Park Bench to the Broadway Stage (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/30/eveningnews/main5466082.shtml)

And it's actually the lead story on the CBS Evening News (http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/eveningnews/main3420.shtml?tag=hdr;cnav) page.

-Alas, no video.  Yet. ???

Thanks for the links.

Thanks for the sausages?!

Not a concern here, in fact we don't even have Halloween out here.  This year I didn't put out decorations or even purchase a few gords.  I complained to Keith he didn't even thank me for not decorating.

Thanks DR RonP for including the spoiler warning re: project runway. i think we are 2 or 3 weeks behind (not sure why they do this but they always do). I really appreciate it.

It's pretty funny but my niece who just turned 4 loves this show. She doesn't really watch anything but cartoons. But about a month ago my sis let her watch the runway part (since she likes to walk runway down the hall).

The next week she was staying over on a saturday (it plays here on saturdays) and i asked my sis if she could watch. She said okay. And my niece could actually remember most of their names.

And she likes to find out who is in and who is out (she even says it like heidi). The next 2 weeks she watched again and remembered many of the names. She even has a favorite designer (who is terrible IMO but she likes him).

If we had a cat I would go in search of the bowl.

While I was hiking today I was thinking how much I miss having a cat to snuggle with, and how nice that Sherlock is such a snuggly boy to help ease that feeling.  On the whole cats are simply more cuddly & will do it for hours, & as a bonus they serenade you with their sweet purrs.  I don't miss the itchy swollen eyes all that snuggling gave me.

This was the longest it's ever taken to address packages, but mostly due to two releases at once, which required extra work while addressing, and there were a lot of overseas and the stupid new post office rule that packages under an ounce now have to have a customs form is really irritating and takes at least an hour to deal with.

I got the source material for what was a potential release that MGM had no tapes on - well, the sound is terrific mono and we have the complete score thanks to the composer (now deceased) having the foresight to have his own tape made.  I will say this is another BK holy grail release from a film I really like from my favorite year in film history.  This will be the third or fourth soundtrack we've done from that year and if I could do them all, I would.

Or Arlene Dahl either! Don't they know who the real STARS are?

To quote the incredibly hilarious Cloris Leachman in the otherwise lamentable roast of Bob Saget, "Would someone please punch me in the face so that I could see some STARS?"  :)

Not a concern here, in fact we don't even have Halloween out here.

Well, if instead of tofu brownies you offered Levain cookies, you'd have lines of goblins down the drive.

Getting rid of the "Beware of Bear" sign might help

Since the story about Teri White is a feature, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to access it later via the News section on CBS.com.

Thanks for letting me know about this.  But, I've seen news segments on-line that were edited because of music content. :-\

So, I got home at about 6:25 pm, but didn't realize that the CBS evening news is at 5:30 pm on the left coast. :( So I missed it.  I guess I'll check to see if it's on CBS.com.

I'm thinking about going to Amelia this weekend.  I've always been a bit fascinated with Amelia Earhart. I know it hasn't gotten the best reviews, but I think I'll go anyway.

Good Evening!

I'm back from Brooklyn... Back from dinner...

I'm not sure how you say "Yum!" in Polish, but the food I had earlier tonight at Krolewskie Jadlo (http://www.krolewskiejadlo.com/) - King's Feast (http://www.krolewskiejadlo.com/eng/) - was indeed quite yummy. And very, very filling. *And the bread was served with pickles and lard(!).

Today I left work early to go to the movie and because I was just tired of the whole week. So tomorrow I need to go in and do some serious writing, do the books and just be there by myself when I can be productive.  I think if I spend a 1/2 day it will be great.

Tomorrow night I'm going to a Halloween party at Garage Mahal....my friends' new garage that is reportedly as big or bigger than their house, lol

In other news...

This announcement truly floored me...

‘Brighton Beach Memoirs’ to Close Sunday (http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/30/brighton-beach-memoirs-to-close-sunday/?src=twt&twt=artsbeat)

They just officially opened earlier this week!  Granted the reviews weren't "glowing", but still... WOW!  I know some people involved with the production, and it's been a bit sad reading some of their Facebook status updates this evening.  However, apparently, it's a "provisional closing notice", so the fate of the productions won't ultimately be decided until Monday.  -I'm wondering if Santino Fontana can step back in Billy Elliot? :-\

Why are there photos of Hasselhoff at the Finian's opening?

I don't get Hasselhoff.

Perhaps he wants Cheyenne's role when he leaves the show? There were a lot of photos of that Pill lady, too, but I didn't see any of Brian Dennehy, Susan Stroman and Trevor Nunn who were also there.

Alison Pill is getting a lot of coverage due to her casting in the upcoming production of The Miracle Worker - which in itself is attracting a lot of attention due to the casting of Abigail Breslin as Helen Keller (http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/29/advocacy-group-opposes-miracle-worker-casting-choice/).

UGLY BETTY is a great looking show, and the cast is ALL doing the SAME show!  I think it is even better this year.

I guess that's what happens when your show is on the verge of being cancelled.  In any case...

I'm watching tonight's episode now (via DVR), and it's nice seeing how they have combined various NYC locales.  It was also nice seeing the whole "Taj Mah Hot Dog" set-up which I happened to come across during one of my walks a few months ago.

DR MBarnum - Do you watch "Ugly Betty"? If not, you might want to check out tonight's episode online.  At least for the whole Taj Mah Hot Dog sequence. ;)

If you haven't seen this trailer you may enjoy it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyrkcz7msfY It's from the Michael Jackson movie.  I have to say it really blew me away.  I may go see it again tomorrow

I'd see it tomorrow, but, apparently, every showing in NYC is sold out for the duration of the run.

That's too bad.  I guess I didn't think about it selling out.  There were plenty of seats at the matinee I went to.

Although...  I have one friend who is - well, how should I put this? - a disciple of Michael Jackson.  -And, no, DR Ginny, I'm not talking about him.  Ever since Michael Jackson died, almost every tweet on Twitter and status update on Facebook has been about Michael Jackson.  And once the movie was announced, the countdown started.  She has seen it four times already - and even took a day off without pay(!) in order to catch the first 11:00pm showing here in NYC - and the first show the following morning. Frankly, it's a bit scary, and sort of off-putting - at least to me.  Today, she even started de-friending people on Facebook who were making jokes and/or questioning her "devotion".  Like I said, sort of scary.

So, can someone tell me if it is considered gauche to eat in a noodle shop in the Italian style - i.e., twirling the noodles on your fork?   Just curious.

What kind of noodles will you be eating? Italian spaghetti? Japanese udon? Chinese hand-pulled la mian? Thai pad thai? Korean jap chae?

Just curious.  ;)

In any case... Just remember to slurp.

DR DAW - you of course use a spoon.  You spoon the noodles onto a piece of bread, add ketchup, and eat it as noodle sandwich.

Was that in "I Love Lucy" or "That Girl"?

Greetings.... from the dark dingy room known as my computer room...

yes i got a new toy and I have been busy setting it up...

I am feeling better but I still have a pesky cough that is very annoying.

I am liking WIN7 but I ahve noted that my genealogy program does not work properly so I am hoping they will come out with a patch for it. I am not a fan of the later versions of the genealogy software.
