Well, you've read the notes, the notes were post-Christmas and Post Sugar Pops (which are tops), and now it is time for you to post until the post-Christmas cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EMBONPOINT!

Which is how I feel right now, but happily not how I look

Laura, I just saw the Floop video - adorable, and I've just posted a comment.

Saturday morning greetings! Our household is just beginning to stir. Our only specific plans are to pick up a Honey Baked ham and, possibly, have a visit from niece Lauren. Hers is the only unopened present left under our tree.

TOD - For Christmas from DH Richard, I received 2 CDs that were released in 2009:
At Home with Friends - Joshua Bell
The Power of Two - Michael Feinstein and Cheyenne Jackson
And, when she was here for Thanksgiving, my sister brought me the new Barbra Streisand, as a thank-you for looking after our mom and aunt.

Morning all. It began raining last night on Long Island but it's not raining now. We will probably still stay out here another night and return to the city tomorrow. It's in the 40s right now and some snow has melted due to the rain.
Anthony is in the basement arranging packing for our train trip back to the city. I need to get some breakfast (even though I've been up since 7:45am).
The Floop video was fun but I don't think I can eat it as prepared because I detest beets. Lips that touch beets will never touch mine! Ugh, one of the worst tasting vegetables ever (in my humble opinion, of course). AND beets stain with ugly maroon juice. The sight of borchst (sp) makes me tremble and then when you make it pink by adding sour cream - never gonna happen for me!
-
We have to go to the store sometime today and purchase a memory card for Anthony's new digital camera. It's a great camera but it did not come with a memory card and the card in his current (very old from 2000) camera is too big (physically) for the camera so it can't be used. Oh, well.
Later, gaters.
-
Good morning!
Much milder this morning than I was expecting. I wore a light jacket on my walk, and I really didn't need it. Tomorrow should be much colder according to the forecasts.

I got the MIGHTY MOUSE write-up completed this morning and got it posted freeing me for the rest of the day. I am delighted to have the day off! Now I just have to decide how to fill it.
I know I'll be watching INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE on Blu-ray this evening (want to wait until it gets dark). This afternoon may be one of the Warner Archive discs or GONE WITH THE WIND on Blu-ray which was a Christmas gift.

Tonight on HBO-HD is the cable premiere of REVOLUTIONARY ROAD which I am very much looking forward to recording. It doesn't start until 9 p.m., so I won't see it until tomorrow, but this will cross another want-to-see 2008 film off my list. Still haven't gotten to THE READER, BENJAMIN BUTTON, or FROST/NIXON from 2008. I assume they'll all be coming up in the weeks ahead on one of my paycable services.
-
I have two more episodes of THE MENTALIST on the first season set, but I went ahead yesterday and watched the "making-of Season One" documentary. It's SO much fun to hear Simon Baker and Owain Yeoman talk in their natural voices rather than with the American accents they effect for the show. It's an especially enjoyable bonus feature.
-
I also went ahead and watched the gag reel from season one of THE MENTALIST. Some funny flubs, and very funny to see Simon Baker correct a young, inexperienced actress who puts an arm up into his camera shot while he's talking.
-
DR JohnG - thanks for the reminder about the new Hair recording - I bought that one in NYC right after we saw the show in July.

Good Morning Ben- What Camera Did Anthony Get?
He got a Canon PowerShot SD 1200. It's part of the ELPH line. We got a 16 megabyte (big by old standards but tiny by today's) memory card so we know the camera works and it takes great pictures but we need a bigger memory card. This one holds just 7 pictures taken in high quality.

Eating my traditional after-Christmas breakfast--a slice of babka spread with butter. This year we have a raspberry and cheese babka--delish!
I've home baked a babka only once in my life. I remember that while the outside was overdone and hard, the inside came out beautifully--perfectly textured and it tasted great. I should attempt another one some year...
-
Well they've adjusted the weather. I don't think we will be getting any snow. But a ton of freezing rain. Since a lot of people drive today (for Boxing Day) i hope it isn't too bad out there.
Do any others have Boxing Day plans?
I know the stores will be a zoo here today (it is the biggest shopping day of the year here).
In Quebec the stores are only allowed to open at 1pm. But the bad part will be that since it is Saturday the stores have to close at 5pm. So it will really be a zoo.
-
I need to get dressed at eat so i will be ready to go at 11:30am!
Even though the mall is only 5 minutes away. I want to go and pick up a ticket from Best Buy. They are having a draw for $500. So i'll get one of those and leave it with my dad (who wants to be in there for 1pm).
Then I think i will head in the mall to Old Navy and see their bracelet give-away. They are giving bracelets so people can get 4 free movie passes.
Sears is also in the mall and they have 50% off extra on their liquidation stuff. My mom's favorite place to shop on Boxing Day is Hallmark, since they have 50% extra on all their Christmas/Chanukah stuff.

I'm curious what everyone's favorite presents were this year for the holidays.
I got something which so far i really love and would never have bought for myself. It's from the guy who did hair on AMERICAN IDOL. It's a hair straightener/curling iron. But it's got a brush. It's called the InStyler. My hair is really straight. And this way it takes only minutes to curl it!
-
It's pouring here in South Jersey, DR Jennifer. It's been raining all night and when I woke up I found that almost all of the snow from last week's storm is gone. But we might get more on Monday with another snowstorm...
I'm feeling kind of run down and achy this morning, but I might still run out to pick up a few discounts here and there. Thank Gawd I don't have to return anything...

TOD:
I have really enjoyed the two GLEE releases this month. The cuts are mixtures of original soundtrack recordings and re-recorded studio renditions different from the aired performances.
I'd also have to say that ANYA really delighted me to get finally on CD.
I don't think I bought a single cast recording from this year's Broadway season, but I do look forward to purchasing FINIAN'S RAINBOW when it comes out early in 2010, and I may end up buying the new version of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, too.

That's a very good suggestion for topic of the day. Of course, we have a topic already for today, so maybe I'll just keep my answer to myself and let bk slot this topic for one day next week.

Now I'm going to head downstairs and watch another episode of THE MENTALIST. When it's over, it should be time to start fixing some lunch.

I think my favorite Christmas gift is a Shiatsu massage pillow from my mom. I can't wait to feel how it will work on my neck!
I am also looking forward to playing the new Zelda Nintendo DS game, watching the MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE 3000 DVD set, reliving THIRTYSOMETHING, and reading the further adventures of Popeye in his comic strips from the 30s.
Oh, and I can't wait till I play with my Bucky Balls, too!

Good morning, all! I was awake around 6:30 and thought, another hour. When I decided another hour had passed, it was 9:45! Oy. So Happy Day After Christmas to everyone!
Given the amount of champagne, wine, and vodka I had yesterday, I am amazingly not hung over and extremely happy about it. I have a bit of work on my LADY OF THE SLIPPER bibliography and some Jerome Moross things to begin.

Naturally my favourite new CD releases this year have been Kritzerland releases. And I'd say of those, I'm quite crazy for the soundtrack of the Twisted Nerve and its addictive little whistling theme. Aside from Kritzerland titles, I can't think of any new releases I've acquired this year. I've been buying mostly old and used at Half-Price Books. Got a couple of nice CDs of Ozzie Nelson's big band with Harriet Hilliard (later Mrs. Nelson) as vocalist.

Well. I took Miss Dixie Bell for a long winter's walk in a NEW place (our local drainage authority's immense lot) and I really should have stretched first. . .

Bruce Springsteen's Working on a Dream
Ann Hampton Callaway's At Last

SHOW GIRL - and the story of Cecelia Siddons

Sorry, Matt, Vera Ellen's figure, especially her legs, just looks weird to me. It's actually the tops of her legs more than her calves. They do in fact look like Barbie legs to me--anorexic sticks with no meat on the bones.

Of course I meant Cecelia SiSSon.
-
In some costumes, Miss Vera-Ellen wore shapers in her stockings to give her upper legs a more pleasing line.

Today we are spending several hours looking at potential new houses. A *lot* of foreclosures and short sales. It's actually quite sad and frightening to see how many people have lost their elegant homes.
-
Good morning, kidz.
Last night I went to a Christmas party down the hallway from the apartment I've been staying at in the marina. Lots of very nice people, way too much very nice food, one extremely nice dawg... not another actor or dancer or singer or composer or writer in the bunch, however - all civilians.... I felt somewhat 'fish-outa-water'. I was cordial and pleasant, but after sampling ALL the desserts I gabbed for awhile longer and then skedaddled outa there. So odd to be lost among people with whom I have so little in common, after all the years.
With my own family - none of whom are artists - at least we have blood and memories in common. We have at least SOME ground on which to base a conversation. But these folks were all strangers to me - most have kids - not me. All know each other from some activity or family connection, blood or memories or skiing in common - lotsa talk of skiing, and I've NEVER skeeeed - not once. Only once did the, ummmm, 'healthcare' bill come up - okay, I'm a bit political - but this gal only was speaking of her medication, and had no idea that They have in that, ummmm, 'bill' a door-slam against her continuing to get it cheaper outa Canada... and has no clew that Universal means A Whole Lot More Expensive... no conversation possible there, and it was neither time nor place to bring up 4th Amendment stuff...
When it came to the question, "And what do YOU do, Penny?" the answer actor, singer, writer, and erstwhile art therapist for addicts brought blank stares and an end to the conversation. And isn't this carrot/parsnip souffle wonderful!!! Mmmmm... I love brussels sprouts! No, I hadn't realized the wild rice stuffing had water chestnuts in it, and I've never actually had a christmas goose!
PS - the hostess insisted I take all four goose carcasses. I did.
It was sort of wearying--- and I realize I'm just plain peopled-out. Have I turned into that reclusive old gal?? I think so...
-
I did spend an inordinate amount of my time at the party talking to the aforementioned extremely nice dog, who had deliciously soft fur and ice blue eyes. She's a porky little thing with a fat little pink belly and the sweetest disposition. Blue is a miniature Australian shepherd - looks so much like my mother's last, best dog, Casper, who was a full-size blue merle Aussie.
-
And on that note, let's get some coffffeeeeeee!!!

Laters, skaters.

DR PennyO - I blame the hosts and the other guests for your discomfort. They should have acted more like the dog.

And for any DR who may be flying this weekend - and most likely, over the next couple of weeks...
I've heard from a couple from a couple of friends and acquaintances this morning via phone calls, texts and Twitter, that the TSA has ramped up the screening requirements after last night's terror attempt:
-NO liquids in any amount in your carry-on.
-NO electronics allowed "on" during the flight at all.
And it seems they've also re-instated the "No getting out of your seat during the first and last hour of the flight" rule (which took effect right after 9/11) as well.

And, when she was here for Thanksgiving, my sister brought me the new Barbra Streisand, as a thank-you for looking after our mom and aunt.

I also abhor beets. My father on the other hand was a huge fan of Borscht, and in fact was eating a bowl of it at a restaurant when I had the temerity to inquire about our Jewish heritage. As some of you know, it was verboten to mention this background around my father, who absolutely did not want to discuss it. So Borscht is forever linked in my mind to being Jewish, which is probably as it should be. :)

Hello Hello.
I love reading everyone's reports of their day yesterday, and seeing all the great photos.

As DR elmore reported, dinner at Fred and Skip's was absolutely delicious! I took a few photos of the yummy offereings, which I will try to post now.

OK - Rob and ML are off to see Avatar, Richard and I are off to pick up the ham. We will all rendezvous back here in time to prepare dinner for tonight's guests - DN (dear niece) and goddaughter Lauren and her mom.
Bye for now!

As for the Topic of the Day...
Well...
I purposely did not buy that many CDs - or DVDs for that matter - this year as part of my "I Have Way Too Much Stuff Campaign". I either finally listened to some CDs that I bought but never listened to; sold some (well, a LOT) of CDs to Academy; or gave away some CDs to people I knew would appreciate them and listen to them more than once every six to seven years. However... Of the top of my head...

Oh...
I like beets.
*DR Jane - Fresh beets are truly a different "taste sensation" than pickled beets. Thinly sliced fresh beets are a nice addition to salads, great color and crunch. Have you ever had roasted beets? -I've found some people who do not like beets, actually do not like "pickled beets" - it's the vinegar that can overpower everything else.

i've not had roasted beets. i would be willing to try them. i'm not usually a fan of picked anything. i will eat the picked corn in floop if i have to, at least it doesn't change the taste of everything it comes in contact with.
-
penny how strange the hostess insisted I take all four goose carcasses. what did she suggest you do with them?
That is strange, considering you were nowhere near that party. ;)
-
We had a delicious Berkshire Pork roast and a vegetables au gratin dish.
-
I love beets. Plain, pickled or otherwise.
If we were Down Under, we would be having beets on our sandwiches.
-
I'm up, have left a message for the composer who's signing the booklets and hope to hear from him soon, although he's been pretty slow about getting back to me - he always does, but never in what I'd call a timely manner. If it doesn't happen today then it has to happen on Monday.
-
We also had a yummy potato gratin type dish. And stuffing.
-
And the dessert - um, wow!! Look how beautifull!!

Heard from the composer and we're meeting at some restaurant in Westlake Village at two. I shan't be eating, however.

DtM I like the display under your pretty tree. Any chance of a close up?
-
Jose, “the baby whisperer”, I like that. The Jefferson hotel is beautiful.

I love beets. I prefer pickled beets on salad, but will eat fresh in a pinch.

Tried to go see AVATAR at IMAX But it is completely sold out for the next three days!
-
We are think of getting out to a movie. i'm sure AVATAR is too long for me, even if we go locally & see it in 2D. we can drive half an hour to see it in 3D. i don't think watching anything in 3d, short or long, is a good idea for me. 3d makes me jump at times and i do not want to make my shoulder hurt more than it already does.
-
Had to go buy some Sharpies - the car battery wasn't as bad as yesterday morning, but it wasn't as strong as I'd hoped it would be. I just let it run for another twenty minutes, but unless I buy a car on Monday or Tuesday, I'm afraid I'll have to go buy a new battery.
-
Arnold M. Brockman, as I posted last night, I got the following apps: I got Dragon Dictation, where you speak into the phone and it turns what you say into text, which you can then text or e-mail to someone - very cool. I got Yelp, I got imdb, I got google, also voice recognition where you just speak into the phone what you want to google and it finds it - not nearly as accurate as Dragon but still fun. I got a restaurant tip calculator, too.
-
Hello, everyone.
It is cool, cloudy, and damp in these parts today, which is fine with me. I enjoy cool weather and appreciate some variation from day to day.
-
DR JMK, I was saddened to learn that La Manse will not be yours. I cannot think of better buyers. I also think the bankers need to seriously rethink their approach. That said, I hope you find something you like even better. I also hope you keep us posted on your progress. I found the La Manse story quite interesting. I have several friends here, slaves to what they read and hear, who insist that there are lots of bargains among foreclosures. I'm sure there are SOME, but the properties I saw were all cheap for rather obvious reasons, and, as your posts indicate, financing can be quite tricky.
Best of luck house-hunting!
-
And, when she was here for Thanksgiving, my sister brought me the new Barbra Streisand, as a thank-you for looking after our mom and aunt.
do you like it?
You know, in all the hustle and bustle around here since Thanksgiving, I've only listened to it once and that was in the car. Maybe I'll give it another listen right now - I'll get back to you.
-
DF&H#2 saw one of the properties that looked quite promising in my house search--in fact, he checked it out for me just before it went into foreclosure. It proved to be a real dog; there was no way I'd undertake a total redo of it. But now, at least, we have some common ground, as our opinions of it are the same. And, it was indeed the most promising of the bunch.
-
I find when I do that, my guests seem to react badly to me sniffing them and licking their hands.
Might that be because of where you are sniffing?

And of course
SHOW GIRL - and the story of Cecelia Siddons
I did forget about SHOW GIRL. Another prized CD attained this year. I'm very grateful to have gotten it and ANYA this year.
-
DR Jose's message reminded me that I did indeed buy one NEW cast album from a show from last season this year: THE STORY OF MY LIFE.
I'm pretty sure that was the only one, however.
-
I watched the penultimate MENTALIST episode from season one, the one about the murder of a boy at a camp for troubled youths. I barely remembered this episode, and things about it kept surprising me throughout including the identity of the murderer.
-
While I fixed and ate lunch, I went back to disc one in the MENTALIST set and watched three of the four episodes again on that disc. (I skipped the pilot episode). Such fun.
-
Then I finished watching IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME in HD off the DVR. Looked splendid (Garland was particularly fetching in her red dress doing those two numbers at the engagement party).
-
And it seems they've also re-instated the "No getting out of your seat during the first and last hour of the flight" rule (which took effect right after 9/11) as well.

...
Chaos erupted as alleged terrorist Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, 23, tried to set off a sophisticated explosive device strapped to his body.
"Suddenly, we hear a bang. It sounded like a firecracker went off," said Jasper Schuringa, a film director who was traveling to the US to visit friends.
"When [it] went off, everybody panicked ... Then someone screamed, ‘Fire! Fire!’"
Schuringa, sitting in seat 20J, in the right-most section of the Airbus 330, looked to his left. "I saw smoke rising from a seat ... I didn’t hesitate. I just jumped," he said.
Schuringa dove over four passengers to reach Abdul Mutallab’s seat. The suspect had a blanket on his lap. "It was smoking and there were flames coming from beneath his legs."
"I searched on his body parts and he had his pants open. He had something strapped to his legs."
The unassuming hero ripped the flaming, molten object — which resembled a small, white shampoo bottle — off Abdul Mutallab’s left leg, near his crotch. He said he put out the fire with his bare hands.
Schuringa yelled for water, and members of the flight crew soon appeared with fire extinguishers. Then, he said, he hauled the suspect out of the seat.
...
So under the new rules, Jasper should have just stayed in his seat and left the bomber finish his deed!

Well, not sure about the new car yet - while it's been an incredible year for Kritzerland, one dealer is so far behind in payment (he's just about to pay half the bill for Clouseau this week - so he still owes the other half of that, then Pressure Point, Stranger/Tamiko, and The Children's Hour, and this week he'll get Empire and Rhapsody - it's a HUGE amount of money and it will be at least three months before it's all paid off. If I had that money now there would be absolutely no problem getting the car on Monday. I've tried to get him current, and he actually promised to pay his huge Taras Bulba invoice in two payments, but then he forgot that and it ended up being four payments, which pushed everything back three weeks later than it already was. However, I cannot push him because he's the Kritzerland life blood.

Good Afternoon!
Christmas Morning, Part Deux, was a rousing success! Gifts were distributed. Wrapping paper was torn off with vigour! And there were lots of "Oohs", "Aahs", "Thank You's", and "I Love You's". :)
*My favorite "reaction" courtesy of my nephew, John Michael:
My brother, Mike, to his son/my nephew: Hey, isn't that a nice gift? You should give your uncle a hug and a kiss for that.
My nephew: How about just a handshake?
Why I oughtta! ::)
-
bk - I know you've mentioned this before, but...
How old is your car?
How old is your battery?
If you're still using you're original battery, well... A new battery is much, much cheaper than a new car. But I'm sure you already know that. ;)
-
DR DER BRUCER - I also believe there was a report that the "suspected" terrorist first went to the bathroom in order to "prepare" shortly after the plane took off. However, I'm pretty sure that getting out of one's seat in order to extinguish a fire - no matter the source or cause - would still be permitted.
*I'm just wondering if the TSA is going to start having special procedures for incoming International flights and flights in and out of DCA like they did right after the planes started flying after 9/11.
**I just hope that whoever cleared this "suspected" terrorist to fly is reprimanded, well.. Fired!

I'm finishing up some computer stuff and then I'll be heading down for an evening of movie watching. I really do love these days off!

Jose, “the baby whisperer”, I like that. The Jefferson hotel is beautiful.
:) I had never figured "Uncle Steve" as the "baby type", although, I guess he is. Heck, I still remember when I finally got to "meet' my nephew, John Michael. -He was born in Hawaii, and I didn't get to see him in person until my brother got transferred back to the mainland. Steve and I met him together. John screamed when I tried to hold him, but he had no problem when Steve took him in his arms.
And, yes, The Jefferson Hotel is quite beautiful. I'm glad I stopped by last night to look at all the Christmas decorations. By the time I got there, the only other people walking through the lobby were the desk staff and cleaning crew. It was very peaceful, and perfect for taking pictures. *As well as "letting" Monkey climb the big tree in the lobby. ;)

And the dessert - um, wow!! Look how beautifull!!
oh my god what is that! i want some NOW!!!
ME THREE!!!
Thanks for the food porn, DR Julie!

From last night:
DR Laura: "I bought a plane ticket a few days ago, and I don't remember ever being required to give my date of birth before. Seems like there are already an awful lot of security things to go through now."
Frankly, I'm surprised the airlines hadn't been asking for this additional bit of "Proof of Identification" before now. That's part of the TSA's new "Secure Flight" measures which ask for your: Full Name, Date of Birth, and Gender. To me, that sounds like that would have been a lot easier - and cheaper(!!!) - to implement immediately after 9/11 than the heavy-duty screening machines and the personnel required to run those machines. Yes, some "Privacy Advocates" are bitching about having to submit even more information to the airlines and the government, but that's a truly small price to pay for knowing who is actually on your flight in the seat next to you.

I just saw some pics of my friends' baby boy - He arrived Christmas Eve morning!

Beets are delicious if you cut them into wedges, toss them with some olive oil, wrap them in foil, and roast. Then you just need a little salt and pepper.

Very nice pictures, Jose!

**I just hope that whoever cleared this "suspected" terrorist to fly is reprimanded, well.. Fired!
He was on a none-TSA intelligence database that includes people with known or suspected terrorist ties, and officials knew about that possible connection for "some time..."
"Suspected contacts" is insufficient data to put a person on the NoFly list.

They might be juicier if you leave the skins on during roasting. (After roasting the beets can be easily skinned by rubbing them with a paper towel.)

penny how strange the hostess insisted I take all four goose carcasses. what did she suggest you do with them?
When I objected to her throwing them out with so much meat on them, and suggested 'stock' - she insisted I take them and make stock... I was glad to get 'em!!

Terror attempt??? where was I?? I have heard nothing about this... can you spell 'under a rock?'
-
Okay - now i have read through some of the posts about the terrorist... I bet it really burned his ass to be thwarted so completely... any word on his burns???

gonna go google this 'attack' by said nincompoop. laters.

I have a question for the church music directors:
What happens if you miss the deadline to have the music information to the church secretary so she (or he) can type up the bulletin?

We have to go to the store sometime today and purchase a memory card for Anthony's new digital camera. It's a great camera but it did not come with a memory card and the card in his current (very old from 2000) camera is too big (physically) for the camera so it can't be used. Oh, well.
Later, gaters.
My, how times and technology have changed. The 8 GB memory card in my camera (at its highest quality setting...7 megapixels) can take over 2000 pictures and at its lowest setting can take over 10000 pictures!!
I don't actually know exactly how many pictures it can take on its lowest setting. The display on the camera only goes to four digits, so I can take a whole bunch of pictures and it will still show 9999 pictures available.

Good day from Sioux City!!!
It's still recommended no travel, but after I dug out the 2 feet of snow around my car and realized there was no wind at either end of my journey to blow the snow around, I decided to go for it. It took over 3 hours to make what is usually a 2 hour trip. The roads were snow and ice bpacked, but I went slow and made it. I was very pleased to find that my neighbor had cleaned out my driveway!
My cat sitter didn't get here last night or today. there was an extra - oh I don' tknow maybe 8-10 inches of snow last night and she just couldn't get here. the girls seem fine Callie missed 3 doses of her meds, so I'm going to keep an eye on her, but I think it will be fine.
-
The snow going up my path to my door is mid thigh depth and there is a lot of snow that I need to move tomorrow. My shoulder is sore from shoveling out my car. The snow was over the tires and there was about a foot of snow on the top of the car. this after I cleaned it off yesterday! It's a very wet heavy snow.
-
What happens if you miss the deadline to have the music information to the church secretary so she (or he) can type up the bulletin?
EASY - you handcuff the sceretary to her desk until such time as the information is provided. Should the secretary still be in cuffs when the minister arrives, and the Bulletin is not prepared, the minister should blame the secretary for her poor planning.

Sioux city seems to just be buried. To get an idea of how long this has been going on, the churches that had to cancel Christmas eve services are now posting announcements that they will be cancelling services tomorrow.

Pretty close.

i can't tell you how many times in the hospital i had to give my name and birthdaye. of course it was for my protection so i didn't get the wrong meds or treatment. before surgery the doctor had my shoulder marked. i liked that.

I wonder if that new-fangled controversial see-through airport security scanner was used or not. And if it would've been able to "see" the item strapped to the guy's leg.

We saw one faboo, knockout house today. It's a short sale, incredibly gorgeous, big, with a to die for view of the valley west toward the coast range. I'm a bit concerned as it's on a steep hill and there were blueprints left on the kitchen island detailing erosion mitigation and a geotechnical assessment. But it sure was a beautiful house, fairly new (2004 I think) and with a really big "wow" factor.
-
The pastor isn't the problem; it's a guest speaker (one of our members).

It is in a planned community which has a bunch of bylaws. I just went online to see if we're allowed to fence the yard for the dogs (we could get an invisible fence if not, but I didn't find anything about fences). However, my favorite bylaw was "Resolution Concerning Resolutions."
-
Topic of the Day...essentially everything that I've purchased this year ;):
Allegro - the complete recording
Anya
The Chick Corea Songbook - The Manhattan Transfer!
Cry For Us All
Gypsy - Patti's version (as if there were any other version released this year :D)
Illya, Darling
Next to Normal
Road Show
Show Girl
Shrek - OBC
Splendor In the Grass - Pink Martini
That Old Mercer Magic - JaLaLa
the new solo albums by Liz Callaway, Rebecca Luker and especially Brent Barrett and Kate Baldwin
And every movie soundtrack released by Kritzerland...no, really! I've never been much of a fan of instrumental music, but by listening to these (and reading BK's liner notes about them all), I think I've developed an appreciation for them and have really enjoyed what BK has chosen (and been able) to release. :)

Odd day.
My mom and I drove to North Augusta SC this morning around 9:30. A little more than four hours later, I was driving her 1998 Ford Windstar home while she followed in her spanking new (2010) Nissan Rogue.
Spent the afternoon watching Sherlock Holmes movies on TCM...and nodding off...and waking and watching Sherlock Holmes movies on TCM...and nodding off...and etc., etc.

At my parents' house, a truck and a blade wasn't enough to move all the snow. The guy they hire brought in a huge tractor with a scoop on the front and a commercial sized snow blower on the back. Once he got done, then the blade came in. After that, I still had to dig out my car because they couldn't get that close to it.

DR Laura - Next time, simply just print the following in the church bulletin:
Processional: "Walk This Way" (Aerosmith-Run DMC version)
Offertory: "Money, Money, Money" (ABBA)
Communion Meditation: "Rehab" (Amy Winehouse)
Recessional Hymn: "Baby Got Back"
That should to the trick.

The last thing I'll say about the roads, the snow in the ditches is even with the road, so you can't tell where the road ends and the ditches begin. It wasn't so bad during the day, but at night!

*Is it my imagination, or was there no real "end of the year Oscar-worthy" push of films this year? I mean, "It's Complicated" is the "must-see" holiday movie this year? Really?!?!?! Or did "Avatar" scare off some of the possible competition? Or is another "victim" of the economy?

Richmond is 90-120 minutes away from DC. It's about 95 miles from the D.C. Beltway. So, depending on traffic... There's actually some pretty decent vegetarian dining available in Richmond. It's all those "art majors" at VCU. ;)
*And now that the smoking ban is in place, you can now eat meat-free and smoke-free at the same time in Richmond.

bk - I know you've mentioned this before, but...
How old is your car?
How old is your battery?
If you're still using you're original battery, well... A new battery is much, much cheaper than a new car. But I'm sure you already know that. ;)
The car is over eleven years old now - it's been a good and even great soldier, but it's time to retire her. I replaced the battery about four years ago. Two years ago I put close to seven grand in the car, and, in retrospect, I shouldn't have - but it's time to move on now, I think.
-
Wow. Four years would be great on a battery out here.

The problem with the online dealer is that he's on a net sixty with a lot of the overseas dealers that HE sells our stuff to, so he's playing catch up, too. MY problem is that I'm NOT on a net sixty with any of my vendors - I'm on a net thirty and not even a net thirty with either designer or mastering guy. So, I am constantly putting out money and the money is not coming in quite quickly enough.

You should! It's actually a "Low Occupancy" rate time of year for them, and you can usually get a nicely discounted rate on one of their truly wonderful rooms. OH! And the chef at their main restaurant specializes in vegetarian cuisine!
The Jefferson Hotel (http://www.jeffersonhotel.com/)
i already visited the site ;) i had not noticed the vegetarian cuisine. how far from craig is the hotel?
Richmond is 90-120 minutes away from DC. It's about 95 miles from the D.C. Beltway. So, depending on traffic... There's actually some pretty decent vegetarian dining available in Richmond. It's all those "art majors" at VCU. ;)
*And now that the smoking ban is in place, you can now eat meat-free and smoke-free at the same time in Richmond.
smoke free, animal free :) i didn't notice they are dog friendly which would make it perfect, except for the long drive to craig.
-
No, I haven't iced my shoulder.
i have and am about to do it again. i brought home 4 soft reusable ice packs from the hospital & they are getting plenty of use.

I think it best we keep you away from steep stairs!
der Brucer
lol, i already thought of that and normally i prefer them. even the runner rug looks a bit slippery. is it called a runner with only a little bit of the sides showing?
-
ron whay will your mother do with her windstar?
Sell it, more than likely. She's hinted she might keep it if she can't get a good price on it. I've spent the past half-hour looking up dealer listings for her make/model and the price ranges are all over the place....so she'll have to pick a price and see who bites.
the dealer must have offered a very low trade in amount.

I'm going to settle back and watch THE BISHOP'S WIFE. It's a strange little movie that goes in too many directions but it's heart is in the right place.
strange, i never thought of it as strange. it is also the reason i purchased my first nice hat whrn i really shouldn't have spent the money on myself.
-

So when is it best to use ice and when is it best to use heat. I never remember that
-
I really liked the George C. Scott version of Dickens and I'd forgotten what a wonderful cast he had with him: David Warner, Susannah York, Roger Rees, Michael Gough, Edward Woodward, Frank Finlay, and more. It was quite a delight.
-
I don't like the taste of beets either. I've always thought as I grew older, I'd learn to love them as I have other vegetables I didn't like as a kid, but it hasn't happened with beets.
-
I've accomplished a bit of work, played on Facebook, and I think I shall watch the George C Scott "Christmas Carol" for a bit. It's my memory that I liked this version so we'll see.
I like it very much. Not as much as Sim or Finney, but next in line.
-
I began my evening by watching INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE on Blu-ray. Warners didn't do a lossless soundtrack with this (it is a high bitrate lossy track, but I'll bet that wonderful audio track would have wafted over the room effortlessly if it had been done in Dolby TrueHD).
The visuals are definitely HD, but it's a film that was done with quite a bit of diffusion and thus the Blu-ray isn't as sharp as a tack. Reminded me of the Blu-ray of A CHRISTMAS STORY in visual quality.
-
Next I was going to watch THE SHOW OF SHOWS, that 1930 Warners revue, but I had read on my worksite that some of the discs were shortchanged and the company burned only 64 minute versions of the movie instead of the full-length original. Naturally, I got one of the defective ones, so I've contacted Warners about a replacement.
-
So, I pulled out another Archive disc - Gable and Crawford in CHAINED. Pretty silly sacrificial woman story, but the stars are ultra glamorous, and it was only 75 minutes, so painless and they always play so well together. Otto Kruger was the other man.
-
USA-HD is having an NCIS marathon, so I latched onto one of the episodes to fill out the rest of the evening. This was a third season episode, an ambulance blows up carrying the body of a dead Marine, and the team investigates. Obviously, there is much more to it than it first seems.

initially ice to reduce swelling & then alternate with heat. i tend to move quickly on to heat cuz it feels so good.
of course the surgery situation is very different. while the swelling down my arm was more than double the size it is now i have a long way to go before the swelling is gone.

SingingNymph is here! Happiness & cheer! Oh that we could always see this DR through the year!
I have missed you all. But good things abound. I finished my medical coding courses & am sitting for the big test that will give me cool initials after my name in 3 days! Yikes! Need happy test vibes!
I had a great time at The Do, thank you, Mr. Bruce! And DR Penny, it was fabulous meeting you! The unboyfriend had a swell time too.
All the food was yummy & all the company was grand.
And I had the dubious honor of explaining to Mr. Bruce & the rest of the room just what furries are.

Here's a pic of the Christmas Tree in the lobby of The Jefferson Hotel:

*I believe DR Jane may have already seen this pic elsewhere. ;)
just: WOW...
-
i watched in the good old summertime while i iced my shoulder & arm. cilla, i forgot. only ice it about 10 minutes at a time in one spot.
-
And here's a pic of my nephew and nieces - along with a glimpse of my parents' - well, my mom's Christmas tree:

beautiful, shiny faces - nothing like children in front of a Christmas tree...
-
hi penny, we should have stayed at the jefferson instead of the hotel in bethesda.
-
'night
-
I'm thinking I may watch the Blu-ray of 8 1/2 tomorrow afternoon (the only review disc left on the stack). I likely won't try to do the entire disc tomorrow (there are lots of bonus features), but I'll work on it partly on SUnday and partly on Monday.
-

I have seen this film several times, and still tune in once in awhile - I just love hangin' with these folks. Love the magic.
-

I decided to ice it and it did feel better. I have a lot of shoveling to do tomorrow and will be packing and moving the office at the end of the week, so I can't afford to be hurting roght now
-
Now I'm going to head down to go to bed. I'm really enjoying THE MUSIC MAN story, and I got a big laugh over Ernie Martin trying to talk Meredith into postponing work on THE MUSIC MAN so he could compose music and lyrics for their sure-fire hit (which turned out to be the infamous flop WHOOP-UP).
-
Page Nine Dance!!!
-
right now either
-
Heading downstairs now.
Good night!

Yes, the Furries - interesting... it was so nice to finally meet you, too. And the unboyfriend. I have one or two of those...

I agree!!
-
My friend who was at her parents' across the street from my parents posted this on facebook. It's where I spent the blizzard this was before it got bad. lol
-
Boy oh boy - between jane and Cill, talk about getting cold shoulder...
-
I sure don't miss Winter - I don't mind a little snow flurry... a few ice crystals on the evergreens... but to be stuck in in day after day... oy.
-
Last night, the unboyfriend & I got Rally's for dinner & went to the cinema to see Sherlock Holmes, only to find it sold out. So we drove to the local Famima, got some Krispy Kreme donuts & headed back to his place & popped in the Director's cut of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which he had given me as a Solstice gift. It was most silly. I'm disappointed about Sherlock Holmes, but as far as dates are concerned, I have much more fun snuggling at home watching a movie than in separate theater seating, staring straight ahead.
-
I am happy to say that as my medical coding education comes to an end, so too will my extended stay with my darling aunt & uncle. Well, I probably won't be moving out til February-ish, but that will be here before we know it! I've applied for the Section 8 waiting list for LA County. Figured I might as well do it while my paycheck is teensy & then let them ween me off of the assistance as I make more money from coding.
-
830 posts! And with that, it is supper time.
-
Finished a motion picture, and thankfully remembered I have to put Kritzerland labels on hundreds of boxes before noon tomorrow.

Fired!
I was very surprised at the security when I was in Europe. I, of course, set off all the alarms with my artificial body parts. Usually in the U.S. they use the metal detector and a short pat down on me. But on both flights leaving London and the one flight leaving Barcelona; these guys went farther than I have had guys go on our first or second date.
-
It is in a planned community which has a bunch of bylaws. I just went online to see if we're allowed to fence the yard for the dogs (we could get an invisible fence if not, but I didn't find anything about fences). However, my favorite bylaw was "Resolution Concerning Resolutions."
As Groucho said, be leary of any group that would allow you to be a member.
-
LOL, we have a winter weather advisory again tonight. I am SOO glad to be home
Cilla, I am glad you didn't tell us you were going to try and drive home, until you got there.!

Any other Warner titles affected?
-
TCB, are you talking to yourself?

I went up to Seattle today to see WHITE CHRISTMAS (the stage musical) at the 5th Avenue Theater. I really enjoyed the production. The sets were lovely, the choreography was clever, the cast was enjoyable, and well, the music is Berlin.
I didn't care for one of the leads and I was hoping Jose would be here so I could ask if he knew him.
-
Who were the leads?
-
Who were the leads?
Well, Matt Ashford's wife Christina played the role of Betty (the Rosemary Clooney role). I thought she was wonderful.
-
Love Christina!
-
The male lead was played by an actor named Michael Gruber. He was in the revival, as well as the original production of A CHORUS LINE.

Well, the original production, not the original cast. He appeared in the show in 1989.

Michael Gruber was hotter than hot in a show called SWING in the 1990's.

I can't quite put my finger on the problem. He sang well and he danced well, but there was just nothing there for me, emotion-wise. A very good, but very controlled performance.

So was Christina Ashford.

The other two leads were Northwest products.
-
And it's page 10
-
The dogs have gone to bed and so must I.
Going to Jersey tomorrow to see some cousins.
-
The other two leads were Northwest products.
Cool! I didn't know that.

G'night!

Cool! I didn't know that.
The guy playing Phil is Greg Allen (now, Greg McCormick Allen) from Tacoma / Lakewood.
-
Looks like I have a couple options for New Year's, which is a couple more than I usually have right about now. Must think about this one & choose wisely! Also, good night all!
-
Good Evening!
Yep, Michael Gruber was in the original production of A Chorus Line as "Mike", as well as the was as the revival. He was the first replacement "Greg", and then later went on to cover "Zach" before Mr. Lopez stepped into the production. Needless to say, since he was a member of the original production, he was a bit more suited for "Zach" than he was for "Greg", if you get my drift. But he made it work. ;)
He was also the "Zach" on the tour of the ACL revival, switching off with Sebastian LaCause.
-
And, yes, DR TCB, I do believe I know what you mean. There's always been something a bit "forced" about him to me, at least lately.
-
However, when he rehearses shirtless in the Roundabout rehearsal studios, well...
Just sayin'. Or not. ::)
-
A couple of hours ago, I decided to head out and see a movie. As it turned out, the only movie that started at a good time for me was "Up in the Air". So, I saw "Up in the Air"...
What a great movie! Smart. Funny. Sobering. Thought-Provoking. I'd even say Haunting. I had no real idea what to expect, and I just found myself totally wrapped up in the movie within the first five minutes. George Clooney is wonderful - and, boy, is he just getting better and better as the years go by - in many respects. And the rest of the cast just works so well too.
I will say that being a former(?) road-warrior myself, it hit a bit too close to home at times. But I guess that's what good movies - good Art - are supposed to do from time to time. By the end of the movie I found myself crying a little bit. It wasn't really a sad ending. It wasn't really a happy ending. It was just a Real one. -And the core subject matter of the movie is truly relevant to everyone during this current economic climate.
*And if you do see it, be sure to stay through the credits.
-

I noticed the same thing when I flew in and out of the Philippines earlier this year. However, I think the more "physical" screening was due to the fact that their electronic and computer screening capabilities were not yet up to US standards.

bk - I know you've mentioned this before, but...
Well... You could always buy a used battery - they do sell such things - just to tide you over for two to three months. This way you can take advantage of some of the more than likely 2009 sell-offs in January and February.
-
smoke free, animal free :) i didn't notice they are dog friendly which would make it perfect, except for the long drive to craig.
Well... I'm pretty sure that they're an animal-friendly hotel. Heck, they used to keep live alligators in their fountains!
-
Oh...
I saw "Up in the Air" at the recently opened Movieland at Boulevard Square which is part of the Bow-Tie Cinemas (http://www.bowtiecinemas.com/index.php) chain. They converted a former factory and warehouse space into a 17-screen multiplex, and, from what I could tell, they did a really nice job. Lots of parking, all stadium seating, lots of arm-rest space, and they even sell beer on tap and wine. -I may even try to see one more movie there tomorrow.
-
I'm told that this week is particularly good for buying cars. It's not just the battery - if it was just that, I'd go get a new one. It's the breaks, which are now squealing like stuck pigs.
-

I just checked over at DogFriendly.com, and they say that The Jefferson does allow pets of any size for a nightly fee of $40. They also offer pet-sitting and walking for a nominal hourly rate.

Ah, so you're afraid that your "brakes" may "break". ;)

And as much as I would like to stay for the changing of the day/notes/posts, my parents are hosting a brunch here in a couple of hours, so...
Goodnight.
