And now - Dino at the piano.
Some cast members have been picking up scripts. One I particularly like is Eddie Korbich. Also, we're not supping at The Steak Joint - there seems to be a slight problem in that they've gone out of business. So, it's the Eclectic Cafe - many things I like there, including a good risotto with chicken. And much friendlier, calorie-wise, than a huge hunk of meat.
I haven't seen Eddie since he was in REDHEAD at Goodspeed in 1998 or thereabouts.
And the word of the day is: PULLULATE!
Voodoo Doughnut Offers Bacon Donuts, Legal Matrimony
If you happen to be looking for doughnut shop that performs legal weddings and offers a confectionery treat endorsed by the Ol' Dirty Bastard's mom, you're probably going to have to take a trip to Oregon.
Voodoo Doughnut and its offshoot, Voodoo Doughnut Too, are famous in the Portland area and beyond for their unusual fried dough interpretations and off-beat promotions.
They may have also invented the bacon doughnut: "Our bacon maple bar has got us a ton of press and has been copied all over," Voodoo Doughnut co-founder Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson told Asylum. "Actually, I'm not sure who did it first," he then conceded. "But I was the first one to be on TV with it."
Other Voodoo Doughnut favorites include the Old Dirty Bastard, a chocolate doughnut topped with crushed Oreos and peanut butter, which was in fact given the thumbs up by the late rapper's mom. Also their Portland Crème -- a Boston crème doughnut with a pair of eyes to give it "vision" -- was decreed the official doughnut of Portland by the city's mayor.
Read on the find out how many folks have been married in a doughnut shop, and how many doughnuts a man can balance on his (think John Barrowman).

Oh, I guess you missed his stint as the tap-dancing seagull in Disney's The Little Mermaid on Broadway. ;)
But he was also in Face the Music at Encores!. He and Mylinda Hull cute quite the rug in that production.

JR, please to tell this half-Jew: where exactly does one procure a St. Joseph statue?
I think EVERY movie should have a character who dies in the electric chair.
It certainly would have livened up FUNNY GIRL considerably - and in that cast, I vote for Kay Medford.
And the word of the day is: PULLULATE!

I am back from a great rehearsal with dramatic soprano Margaret Jane Wray, one of the funniest ladies I know. She's here for AIDA at the Met and she's one of the best. Here's a photo of her in AIDA in Wales.
I think I mentioned that I watched THE EDDIE CANTOR STORY last week.
The best part of it was the songs that Cantor recorded himself.
After watching the picture, I did a little research, and learned that the "Rocky Kramer" character in the movie (Gerald Mohr), Eddie's childhood friend who grows up to be a mobster and, subsequently, dies in the electric chair, was inspired by Louis Lepke, founder of Murder, Inc.
Now, about PROMISES, PROMISES. Is this only going to be a modified Encores staging at the Broadway or are they doing the full-out show? If they are doing the complete, full out production, the Broadway (which is admittedly a huge theater) would be an acceptable venue given the lack of prime musical houses being tied up by long running hits.
I mean, I saw the original at the Shubert which, though not as large as the Broadway, is still a full size musical house.
I noticed yesterday that my crocus, tulips and daffodils are starting to come up. I also saw my first Robin yesterday, she was looking for a place to nest

Yes, Promises was a big, splashy show in the Shubert. If they were doing it correctly, the Broadway should be fine.
That was very funny, DR JOSE.
Although my favorite greeting cards will always be:
Hats off to your new hairpiece!
Congratulations on the giant sea tortoise.

I'll be damned - you were excommunicated!

Oh, and "dance music arrangements by David Chase." Funny, I thought this show had dance music arrangements, and great ones at that.
I believe BLOWING MY YARD is one of Elmore's favorite videos.
Thanks, DR td! What an interesting article.....I would like to see the alternate/original version of THE APPLE, of course.
And of course I am downloading the LP right now!
I think a double feature of
THE APPLE & Mae West's SEXTETTE would be enough to drive anyone to drink.

I LOVE THE APPLE!
How has "A House is Not A Home" been in the public eye lately?
This is the actual Tv commercial for PROMISES PROMISES
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ooKDP-MdRQ
And this is the one Jose mentioned, which features the interpolated song "I Say A Little Prayer."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr1grInaXJk&feature=channel
They've been doing both as wrap-arounds (I think that's what it's called) quite often - first one of them, then a different unrelated product, then the other commercial.
I have one download of the soundtrack from the INNER WEB - it's probably yours, DR td, I forget where I downloaded it, although it may have been from something posted here on HHW.
I tell you when it comes to culture, we're the first hogs to the trough.
Just when you think SUNSET BOULEVARD can't get any creepier - Max announces that he was Madame's First Husband.
Where exactly are the interpolated songs interpolated in the new P,P (not a euphemism, unless of course it is), if anyone knows?

At a Catholic Book Store. It comes with directions on where and how to bury it.

Oh, and "dance music arrangements by David Chase." Funny, I thought this show had dance music arrangements, and great ones at that.
Isn't it a given by now that (almost) ALL revivals will have "new arrangements", "new songs" and "new dance arrangements"? Heck, even Encores! usually has David Ives streamline the books of the shows they present. In any case...
I know, I know... Doesn't make it right. -But what is "right" in this respect? Discuss.
I noticed yesterday that my crocus, tulips and daffodils are starting to come up. I also saw my first Robin yesterday, she was looking for a place to nest
MattH, arrangements have nothing to do with the size of the orchestra - those are orchestrations, and yes they were reduced by the show's original orchestrator Jonathan Tunick. Arrangements are something other.

What size is the orchestra compared to the original show. Maybe they needed new arrangements to compensate if it's greatly reduced.

Blooming my yard: Daffodils, camelias, native pachysandra, epimedium (adorable pale yellow blossoms that look like tiny daffodils) lungwort, bloodroot, trillium, summer snowflake, and the japanese magnolias are just starting to bloom. I got a lot of spring gardening cleaning done yesterday, just before the rain. I love spring!

I've always felt there was almost a deliberate stylistic through-line in Tunick's work from Promises, Promises to Company.
Well, I have had a busy morning.
I placed flowers on the altar at church this morning in Dad's memory - it's five years to the day since he died.
Dixie Bell and I walked around the Drainage Authority, where she decided that mud is a good thing. . .NOT to me.
Had a half hour rehearsal for the solo I'm singing on Easter Sunday as well as the song I'm performing with the choir. . .
This will be my solo number next week:

On my wish list: a gospel choir to back me up and Michael Ball's wardrobe. . . .

Living room couch and Ensoniq keyboard are both sold. Still need a buyer for the teak futon couch. Oh, and the house. :)
At first, I was kind of glad about the inclusion of "I Say A Little Prayer" into the new PROMISES--I had always thought it sounded like it belonged to the score (in fact, years ago I had asked on this here very board if the song had possibly been written for the show and a number of folk answered that it had been written years earlier.)
But now that I study the lyrics, I'm not sure who would sing such a song. Surely not Fran about Sheldrake--she's too cynical about their relationship to sing a song like that. One possibility would be to give it to Miss Olsen--I forget what she's like in the musical and whether the song would fit. But this is moot is they are just using it as curtain/exit music--that makes no sense at all but that's the new Broadway for ya...

It's sung by Fran, from what I understand, but is some sort of dance thing with some secretaries (all this second-hand from reports I've read).

I won't argue with you on that, TCB.

Wow, all of the crocus, tulips, daffodils, and flowering cherry have been in bloom for the last three weeks or so. Last weekend, I even saw a beautiful camellia bush...tree...shrub inf full bloom.
Thanks, DRs TCB and Jane. I am feeling much better.

OK, this post is for those of you who have been accused of/reacting to/need to learn the proper way of VENTING department:
A guy sends me about 10 emails in the space of 30 seconds BEGGING to buy my Ensoniq (once a very high end keyboard, the company went out of business years ago, so these are highly prized). I call him and chat. He agrees to come at 3 to pick it up. Of course at 3 he calls to say he doesn't have a car available. OK, here's the venting part:

Bedtime for Bozo.
G'night!
The college boys down the street are playing baseball in the street with the dogs.
Maybe they could take some of those gosh-awful songs from LOST HORIZON and put them in the show. Chuck and Fran could sing Question Me an Answer and they could throw out Turkey Lurkey Time and replace it with The World is a Circle.that's just cruel. Besides, Liv Ullman is going to recycle it as part of the Stephen King/John Mellancamp musical she's said to be directing.
I have been posting photos of Arizona flowers. I think it's time other folks post photos of their flowers, too, now that spring is here (for some, anyway). Will try to get some this week. This has been an exceptional year in South Texas for wildflowers. Didn't have time to stop on the way back from the beach, but we saw fields and fields blanketed with bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, primroses and all kinds of yellow, purple and magenta flowers that I don't know the names of. It was all something spectacular.
June Havoc has died. I met her around 1984, and she was very kind.
I know that a lot of people will argue with me, but I still think that Sean Hayes is wrong for the show.
We've just survived the most hellacious hail storm! My front porch was completely covered in hail, and I feared for my greenhouse window being broken with all of the rock-sized hail that was falling so hard.We had hail the other day, too. Did it do any damage to roof/car/plants?
And we got word today that this year's hurricane season here promises to be worse than those of the last several years.

Those look like female ruddy ducks.Could be. I know I spotted a grebe out there. Just thought it was in that mix.
My wife and I watched AT THE CIRCUS w/The Marx Brothers tonight.Good to hear. I picked up the DVD the other day. It was a two-fer with "Room Service" on it. Haven't seen "Circus" yet.
I know that most people think it's one of their lesser pictures, but it's still very funny.
Well I think they should throw out Turkey Lurkey Time and do On the List of Things I Will Not Miss...with the original Hermes Pan choreography. They are interpolating "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" instead of "Turkey Lurkey." It's a song for Fran to sing as she decides to leave town.

Whatever the little shakeup of two days ago did - it was a good thing, I think, because we've just had two days of wonderful, interesting posts from my favorite people on all the Internet.
Words of advice: don't go out shopping for shoes on the weekend before Easter.
I can't understand why Kristin Chenoweth thinks she needs another song? She has some of the best songs in the show!
