Title: THE NOTES ACCORDING TO HOYLE
Post by: bk on July 05, 2011, 12:08:52 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were according to Hoyle and BK, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - according to Hoyle, who passed away in the 1700s whilst waiting for the cows to come home, it will be soon.

As promised, here are seven variations on cover options for Nudie Musical.  My dictum was I wanted it colorful, I wanted it to pop, I wanted it to have a sense of style and elegance and most of all fun and I wanted to use the Jimmy Pearsall chorus girl.  So, here they are - you'll notice some contain the cast over the title, some under - some contain two critic quotes, some don't - there are three variations on what we call "sparkly" the sparkly curtain - one with a yellow outfit, one with a gold outfit, and one with the standard black.  So, post comments about which grabs your eye, which gives you the most positive feeling, knowing what we were going for - whether you like the quotes or you like the bottom third with the empty look - whether you'd move the cast names below rather than above the title (on the steps, usually, for the ones with stairs).  I've already pretty much discounted two of these designs, but wanted to include them.  I've kind of narrowed it down to two designs, one of which I'm definitely favoring - but I need to narrow the details down - quotes or no quotes (I do think it helps give it perspective to include them), quotes in colored lettering or white (they're all in white, save for one in blue on one design, which I kind of like), and where the cast names should go.  These are absolutely in no particular order:

I wish I could have made these bigger so you could see the quotes, but you get the idea.  Keep in mind, we can change colors, we can move quotes, add them, delete them, etc.

My first instinct is that I like this one...maybe with the lettering in black.  But I do like the title only being in the outfit, not additionally on another line, like post #s 5 and 6.

On this one and post #6, I don't like the steps being empty.  I think that they need something...maybe the cast could be on the steps.  Not in one line, but something like this:

starring:
Bruce Kimmel
Cindy Williams
Stephen Nathan

...so that there is a bit of depth.

I prefer this one  but I would remove the title of the show from below the chorus girl

In my opinion the small bright "spotlight" on top of the larger less bright spotlight in 1-3  gives a "snow man" look which i find  distracting and makes it difficult to see the chorus girl properly

I don't know yet if we will go back to the city today or tomorrow. It depends on Mr. Morelli. We have a couple of things to do so we may stay another day and leave tomorrow. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow in the late afternoon so we don't have to leave at the crack of dawn if we leave tomorrow.

Good morning, all! I am feeling a bit lazy today and wondering what fresh hell will arrive today; July 5th hasn't been a good day for me in several years. In 2006, it was the year the Macbeths revealed their true colors, let me know how much they disliked me, and let my dad know they couldn't wait for him to die for whatever value they could inherit from the occason. This year, I expect today more fallout from yesterday's Ohio Light Opera can of worms. I hope not, but there are still possible repercussions from the executive director and chief financial exponent.

Ah, well. Life goes on. I have work to do, and at 2:45 I'm seeing a new dermatologist, Robin Buccholtz. The last one vanished and left me in the lurch. Thank you, HIP!

More coffee!

I always liked the movie, "Yours Mine and Ours." It's one of the few movies my parents actually took us to see in the theater. I saw it again on television a few years and realized I remembered none of it since I was probably about six years old when I saw it the first time. Anyway, the adults in that film were good, but the children were terrible!

Cool!!!  We can't see them from here.  Apparently, until the year we moved here, the fireworks used to be at the lake & we would have been able to see them.  Now they are in town at one of the parks so we have only gone a couple of times.

Actually, I like  this one the best, but you need soemthing on the steps, possibly the reviews.  If you use those, then you need something (a change of font or color) so that the cast stands out more on the top.

I got an eye exam (hadn't been in 11 years, I thought it was time to go again). I will pick up my new glasses next Friday. I really like the frames and the price was great. 11 years ago I spent over $600 for glasses and I swore I would not do that again this time.

After wating an hour and fifteen minutes past my appointment time, I asked them to reschedule me and left. There's been no sign of a postal carrier today - our regular postman is on vacation for 3 (!!!) weeks -  and so I went searching; she's shooting the shit down at the corner building on the other side of the street, meaning the carrier still has the rest of the other side of 82nd Street to finish before she gets to my side of the street. I doubt she'll finish the route until long after she's gone into overtime. And the PO bitches about costs while they employ fools wasting their time and money. Goddam.

Then I had a refreshing apple, then I made an extremely snippy post on the film score messageboard.  This was the first week in a year when I was the only release happening.  People finally had a breather and too many choices, and funnily, yesterday's orders reflected that.  So, what happens this morning?  Another label decides to announce a new title - out of the blue - four weeks ago they printed their upcoming release schedule, said it would not change, and said they were on vacation this week and there would be no release.  But these gluttons couldn't let it be, they just had to do it and as expected our orders simply stopped.  I'm sorry, that's just bad form, one-upsmanship, and sickening and that label has done it to me and others before.  They are entitled young people, the people who are running it - nothing matters but their own greed and gluttony and they have single-handedly been harming this whole limited edition thing.  Thanks to their never-ending gluttony, things that would have sold out a year ago are not selling out at all - and that includes their own stuff.  You'd think these people would learn, but they just get worse and worse and I am nauseated by it.  If you announce to the world that you'll be on vacation and no releases will be announced during that time, then live up to your word - otherwise you're a scummy liar.

My opinions.

I don't think you need to have the title twice.  (So I don't care for post #5 & 6) I like the yellow on the show girl (I like post #2 & 4)
I feel that post #7 although interest at the size it is it online looks too busy.

I also like the stairs on #8 and perhaps put the stairs on #2 or 4

BUT my favorite is post #4. It just more visually appealing to me

And the latest from here is that I smashed a finger on my left hand in my sliding closet door.  It's swollen and bruised and I can't bend or straighten it.  Doesn't really interfere with my typing, but some other motions - like drying my hands with a towel - really hurt.  If it's the same or worse in the morning, I think I'll have to have it looked at.

I can tell you that my favorite was the sparkly curtains, but I can certainly see the problems - for me, the sparkly curtains make the whole thing pop but they don't stop my eye from going exactly where it should - the girl.  I may have him try one of those without the snowman spotlights - just one spotlight like the one on the curtains image - I like that one, too.

I got the new Marple BD set to review, so I will go watch.  I have issues with how many liberties have been taken with the Christie source elements, but the production design and performances are top notch.

I am home from the  doctor, with a wheelchair (which I now own).  Also a couple of possible broken toes from the last fall on Saturday in the  bedroom.

oh Tommy!! How are you going to manage it when you are driving?

And the latest from here is that I smashed a finger on my left hand in my sliding closet door.  It's swollen and bruised and I can't bend or straighten it.  Doesn't really interfere with my typing, but some other motions - like drying my hands with a towel - really hurt.  If it's the same or worse in the morning, I think I'll have to have it looked at.

I don't think the French magazine has an online component and I don't want to break the spine of the mag to scan it (plus I don't think you'd be able to read it anyway, the font is rather small).  But it's a very sweet remembrance of my Dad and a recounting of his campaign to free Cherbourg after D-Day.  I am very proud to be my father's son.  :)

how lovely!

Rehearsal went really well - this show is so much fun!  Great cast, great songs, only three tiny lyric flubs and the show order works great.

good to hear!

We're actually making great progress so far. There have been a few very minor tweaks here and there, but, all in all, we've basically just been running the show in costumes, with lights and sound for the first time.

DR Jose - are you using the original orchestrations?   The BandStration?  Or the Brohn over-orchestrated fiasco?

Our "band" is 12 pieces: Violin, Cello, Bass, Flute/Piccolo, Oboe/English Horn, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Guitar/Banjo, Percussion, Keyboard (mainly Harp and "inner" strings).

It's all based on Robert Russell Bennett's originals, with tweaks as needed for our reduced forces.

As for the Casey Anthony trial...

DR Cillaliz touched on this yesterday... -How did "everyone" get so personally invested in this case? The reaction on Twitter really caught me off guard. People were truly angry and confused about the verdict. It's not like this was the only murder case in the country right now, nor was it the only verdict handed down today. Yes, it's a tragic case, but... She didn't kill your child, and from what little I've read, it's not like this case would have set any precedents or changed any laws.

DR Jose, this past weekend got me hooked on watching the trial.  I started watching the closings because of my friend Cheney Mason and then as I saw that there didn't appear to be a very strong case for the state, I wanted to keep watching.
