Well, you've read the notes, the notes frittered away, and now it is time for you to post until the frittering cows come home.

Well, last night (Saturday), "A Bucket of Blood" had another good show!  The audience wasn't as big as it was on opening night (there were only about 20 or so), but they still enjoyed it.  For our two performances so far, we're doing well. :D

Yesterday at work, I listened to "The Molly Maguires" and thoroughly enjoyed both versions.  I was working furiously to get my monthly bills report done, so I couldn't pay as much attention as I would've liked, but it was great.  I also love the idea of having the original discarded score being available.  I don't know if other record companies that re-release soundtracks do this, but I think it's wonderful that you do, BK. ;D

We will be spending the day on Staten Island with relatives of Anthony. We will most likely not make it home in time for Downton so we will watch it on line tomorrow.

The various PBS stations are now in fundraising mode and repeats of DA have been pushed back for 10 days.

Which part did you not understand?  If you have multiple kindles all registered to the same amazon account then you get all the books that account has.  But some people read on kindle apps (like kindle for pc...). You cannot read the borrowed books on those.

Good morning, all! I slept late, and enjoyed every second of it. My last dream was peculiar: a tryout of a new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, on whichfor some reason I was working with my adopted son Joshie, who was painting large Chinese letters everywhere, and Sierra Boggess, whom I kept approaching about singing on a recording. I think Sir Andrew showed up once.

So, after that I figured being awake was better. I, too, would love an apple fritter.

Sunday.

Last week on SOUTHLAND they had a scene on a rooftop in LA.  A block or so away was a building with EASTERN on all four sides of it....and a clock.  The building looked to be from the 1930's or so.....but there was something on the very top that I could not identify?

Is this an LA landmark?  And what is setting on top of it?  Is it an airplane or something?

The local natural foods emporium New Seasons has fritters that are to die for.  They also have a surprisingly tasty VEGAN pecan sticky roll that I get quite often.  It is non-VEGAN by the time I'm done with it (meaning I slather it in butter).  ;)

BK may lead the way in emptying the world's bakeries of fritters, but I lead the way in people not reading my posts, including BK.  :)  How else to explain his question in the notes as to whether the Christmas episode of DOWNTON ABBEY falls chronologically after the "end" of Season 2?  (Hint:  I've mentioned this several times.  The short answer is:  yes).

BK, prepare to laugh yourself silly on at least two occasions with Dame Maggie.

I have enjoyed SEASON TWO of Downton Abbey.....which I downloaded and watched some time ago, including the Christmas episode.

I have enjoyed it much more than I enjoyed UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS just because the former series was SO cheap in production values....even by its contemporary standards.

And my favorite moment in BOTH seasons remains Maggie Smith's comment on having electricity inside the house:

Shading her eyes with her fan:  "I feel as though I were onstage at the Gaiety."

From yesterday:

I saw Phantom of the Opera 23 years ag or so with the second Phatom & Christine and was not crazy about it. It maybe that I was more of a Sondheim snob back then.

But I did go see the Albert Hall production and thought that Phantom was a pretty good show.

But I wonder, if it really matters, will it ever have a life in amateur arena

In other, non joking news, there was the most hideous accident this morning on the way to church.  Evidently someone went the wrong way on one of the major freeways here.  It was closed, we all had to get off, then on again, at a certain exit, but the results of the crash were still spectacularly and troublingly in evidence.  The wrong way car was sheared in two, with no roof left.  It looked like it had also caught on fire.  On the back half of the car several pieces of clothing had been spread out, which I assume had been cut off the victims.  There were also at least three other cars that looked like they had been hit.

Jane, no, you will most likely NOT scratch your DVDs with a soft microfiber cloth, but the reason you should wipe from the inside out in a straight line is in case you DO scratch it (inadvertently).

I thought maybe John Addison, though the only film I can think of is not that much of a favorite and the most famous music from it is not even by Addison.

Nancy Walker had a great quote in an early Mary Tyler Moore episode.  She's Rhoda's mother and is visiting Mary, who is "antiquing" a chest by hitting it with a chain.  "It's nice you have a hobby that makes you happy."   ;D

This rings no bells with me.

Ah, I guess I should read ALL the posts before commenting.

Yes, Miss Smith may have gotten the best lines in the show.

Yes DR JANE - Wikipedia says that it's one of the very few examples of Art Deco architecture still standing in LA since the demolition of the Ritchfield Oil Building back in 1969.

I've been lazy.  Then I went out to eat - one simply cannot go out to eat on a Sunday at one-thirty - EVER.  It seems that every human being in the City of Studio is at one of its restaurants - lines everywhere - Jerry's, The Studio Cafe, Art's, CPK, and everywhere else.  It was a joke.  I went to the Subway.  Just finished episode three of Downton Abbey.  When a new character showed up I had a concern, but that concern was gone by the end of the episode.  One of the things I'm really enjoying is the look of the show.  None of this brown/yellow crap they so love today - this thing looks like old Technicolor.

The service was very nice. It was something new for ALL of us. The guest of honor was able to attend, and friends she has had for 50 plus years were able to attend and told sweet loving stories about her. One of her friends played "How Great Thou Art" on the grand piano, and one of the women sang "His Eye is On the Sparrow." I left before the end to get into the kitchen to help set out the foodstuffs. Then I stayed and helped with the dishes. I am tired. Her family is all from out of town, and they were all amazed at all the work we all did. I told her that her mother is very loved in our congregation.

Yesterday's Topic of the Day (favorite ALW songs) ;D:

As If We Never Said Goodbye

Buenos Aires

Don't Cry for Me Argentina

Everything's Alright

Freight

Growltiger's Last Stand

Half a Moment

Married Man from Tell Me On a Sunday/Song & Dance

Memory (I always wonder what Judi Dench would've done with the song if she'd not broken her foot and Elaine Paige taken over the roll two days before the show opened, and would Cats and "Memory" have been as big hits with her singing it)

Our Kind of Love (from The Beautiful Game, in between it being used in the original, unfinished sequel to The Phantom of the Opera and becoming the title song to the finished sequel called Love Never Dies)

Prima Donna

Tell Me on a Sunday

Unexpected Song

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

With One Look

And most of Joseph..., and many mote.

Such sad news to hear about Judi Dench.

Though I must say if it's one of those fine gentlemen, I'm a bit confused.

It is neither of those gentlemen.

How about Nino Rota.

I saw a very enjoyable concert with Rachel York and Brent Barrett, AKA WSMA.  They sang a lot of show tunes as well as some pop songs, including a Bachrach medley.  Rachel did a terrific job on "He Touched Me."  I think my favorite of Brent's was a medley of "Love Makes the World Go Round" and "Some Enchanted Evening."    Rachel told a hilarious story about the time Liza Minnelli filled in for Julie Andrews in "Victor/Victoria," complete with impersonations of both ladies.  She sounded just like Julie.

Better than yesterday, I hope.

Sorry Kevin, that was a rather rude answer to your question.

I just feel like everytime I post here, I am complaining about one thing or another.

For the first time I went to my library site & put a hold on a DVD, MONEYBALL.  I am the 71th person in the queue for this.  Once a DVD becomes available it will be held for ten days.  The DVD may then be checked out for a week.  Late fees are only 20 cents a day.  The library has 4 available disks.  I highly suspect we will have picked this movie up at the Redbox long before my library offers it to me.  ;D

That is crazy. 71 people? We have at most 5 people for each movie. How many people does your library serve?  My library is only for my suburb. My sister's suburb which is 10 minutes away as its own library.

Lots of libraries for one system.  At least they have stayed open.  They were closed for close to a year due to lack of money.  Now we have reduced hours.  My brother in West Los Angeles usually has to wait longer than I do for a new book.

I don't recall exactly what fritters are--they're like turnovers, yes?

I recommend the apple fritters at Stan's in the Village located across from the Bruin Theater.

Thanks, Jane. My new dentist is in Westwood Village and I've been spending a lot of time in that area.

Don't eat all of a fritter in one sitting, it is too much ;)  If you like peanut butter Stan has these incredible peanut butter filled donuts.

The Netflix subscribers here may want to check out LILYHAMMER. I quite enjoyed season 1 and am hoping for season 2. It's available on both disc and streaming.

We just reduced out NetFlix account to only one DVD at a time.  The Redbox was very easy so we will give it a try for awhile.

I am told that the late fees at Redbox are quite high. I've never used a Redbox, but a friend's teenagers use one. The $1.20 is quite attractive, though.

Hmmm.  I wonder how long the teenager had the DVD.   I found the following:

Each item you can rent has a daily rental charge, which may vary from kiosk to kiosk.

for each additional day you do not return an item by 9:00 p.m. local time, your rental continues and you will be charged an additional daily rental charge, plus tax (Oregon doesn't have a sales tax)

For some items, the daily rental charge for the minimum rental period (one day) may be different than it is for each additional day the item is not returned. For example, the daily rental charge could be $3 for the minimum rental period and $1 each additional day.

If you keep an item through the maximum rental period, that item is yours to keep and Redbox will charge you the maximum charge for that item less any amounts you have already paid for that item

As it happens, there's a donut shop practically next door to the restaurant where I was having lunch. I stopped in there and asked about apple fritters. What was I told?? SOLD OUT!!

I didn't realize that so many people read HHW!

The fritters are very popular.  Stan loves his work & customers so much he even works on Christmas.

A woman I used to know had macular degeneration. It's quite common. Said friend knew she had it--her mother had it, too--and got around remarkably. When she could no longer drive she bought a limo and one of her employees doubled as her driver. The last I heard she had a little scooter. (I think she still had the limo.) MD can be a slow progression; it isn't instant blindness.

I know that it isn't instant blindness, but Ms. Dench said she was no longer able to make out the face across the dinner table from her.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  We are back from Lima, where my coffee cake was a big hit.  We have lots left over, because there were only 10 people there today, one of whom didn't stay for refreshments and another who's on a strict diet.  I froze a couple of batches and left out only a few pieces for Richard and me to eat in the next couple of days.

Why were there only 10 people?  Is your weather terrible in Lima?

No, DR TCB, the weather was beautiful today - a bit cold, but clear and dry.  The congregation is small to begin with and several of our folks are dealing with some major health issues.

When I put something on reserve that is popular, I'm in the pool with the entire city. So, there are sometimes 250 ahead of me for a movie like "Bridesmaids" or "Captain America." Or, if I'm early, I was in the first round to get "Moneyball."

Was that my arrangement?

No. She sang a capella.

And what did she have to say about Ms. Minnelli? I know that Tony Roberts refused to work with her after she kept screwing up
