VIBES TO DR TCB FOR TODAY'S SURGERY
-
A few months ago I mentioned the arrival at Edinburgh zoo of the giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guan.
The exciting news is that they are due to meet, or rather to mate, tomorrow! Tian Tian only has two days in the year to conceive and when they meet for the first time tomorrow, they will either fight or with luck we may soon hear the patter of baby panda feet.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Many vibes and prayers for TCB today!
-
TOD: I believe it was something from the label that shall be nameless, most like the Sondheim album from the very beginning. I didn't get into Internet shopping until BK promised something I couldn't find in the store, namely bonus tracks.
-
And the word of the day is: INCUNABULUM!
And The Song Of The Day Is: A CHILD IS BORN
-
Good morning, all! I slept well, so let's get to the important issue for today:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Positive surgery vibes for our DR TCB! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since I never did accomplish everything I had planned on Saturday, I will be heading shortly downtown to Toyland to see what I can accomplish with sme 11x14 paper and linstruct myself in using our binder.
Last night I finished Album Produced By, which I enjoyed immensely, and I'm pondering BK's comment about an Amazon review. If I sound reticent, it's primarily because I am in the book and I don't know my approach. It was easy on Facebok to post the cover, say "I'm enjoyng this and I'm in it. Buy it and read it." It was easy to write Amazon reviews about the books with which I had no connection, but this one's more complex.
So, I'll work it out. It may take me a day. After the beautiful reviews by DRs Der Brucer, Matthew and JRand61, I'm feeling both intimidated and stymied! And neurotic.
-
;D
-
Congrats Arnold, beautiful baby.
-
Good Tuesday vibes for everyone.
:) ;) ;D ;D ;D
After 1999, bcause BK had really goosed my career with a lot of albums and nice reviews, I often turned him down when he called me about a project because there was too much else going on. As a result, there was a period of about three years between 2000 and 2003 where we never communicated. I was off to London with John McGlinn, working on a BBC Cole Porter project for the Cole Porter Trust, the Rodgers & Hammerstein Orgnization had a ballet, I did the first recording for the notorious Jerome Records, etc; he was recording an album I'd turned down because I'd just had a bad experience with its conductor/arranger, he did a Liz Callaway album that I now regret being unable to do it all, and he was fighting for his life, something I didn't know about until bits and pieces of inaccurate gossip and innuendo finally reached me in 2002 (I was completely focused on Toyland and its daily crises). In late 2003, I was helping Liz Callaway with her library and I learned about Bruce's new web site, HHW. That gave me a chance to send him an email and reconnect.
When I finished the book, my initial feeling was a great sadness that I had missed the entire mess and wasn't around to help a friend in trouble. So, once I figure out whwere all of this is going, i'll see what I can do about Amazon.
Tuesday morning greetings! Lunch with the grantwriters today, followed by some errands in Dayton. Hope the storms hold off until I get home...
DR Cillaliz, re: DWTS.
There are a lot of really good teams this season.
I think my favorite is Mark/Katherine. I did not know her before this season. But I can't recall ever seeing a more beautiful and lovely person. She just radiants goodness. And her dancing is freaking awesome. I can't believe how great she is.
I am also cheering for Sherri and Val. I know how much she has wanted to do this show and how much it means to her. And she's doing pretty good.
I am also very impressed by Chelsie/Roshon (sp?) and Cheryl/William (is that his name? he is doing great).
I also quite like Derek and Maria.
I think Kim and Erkel (sorry forget his real name) are quite good too. But for some reason his personality just doesn't do it for me.
More interesting Annie facts: in 1995, I met my first ever bf on AOL. It was a great match. His name was John and we had a love for theatre and music. Well, the "firsts" are always difficult, and at the time I wasn't sure where I was with that part of my life, and I freaked out, and we broke up. We sorta stayed in touch, some words were exchanged (not good ones), and we lost touch for many years. I tried to get in touch with him, but I had never heard back. In 2011, I bit the bullet again and contacted him about my production of Sunset Blvd as that was a mutual obsession between the two of us, and he happened to be in town and came to the show. He had nice things to say and we scheduled a time to meet and chat.
Anyway, he's back in my life as a great friend. We are both thankful we re-connected.... and he's playing Drake in my production of Annie. It's kinda surreal having him in the show, but it goes to show that sometimes time does heal everything.
Yes, I'm still alive. Long story short, I had a relapse of my bug and was laid up for another week. Then they released my mom from the hospital to the rehab center. The next day the rehab doctor called me to tell me he was worried about Mom's oxygen intake level and that he wanted to send her to another hospital instead of the one that released her (probably too early!). So Mom has been now dealing with higher co2 levels along with fluid in her lungs.
I can't say enough good things about this new hospital. Everyone--doctors included--are incredibly helpful and attentive. They are very aggressive in treating their patients where at the other hospital I sometimes felt they were writing Mom off. So glad that the rehab doctor suggested we switch and have another set of eyes look at her.
It's funny but slightly ridiculous. Especially considering my niece is not really shy. If any kid is bugginer her in class she tells the teacher. So i was shocked that she said this. But i guess if her throat had really been hurting ... well then she would have said something.
I explained to her that the teacher does not want her talking to her friends. But that can talk to the teacher if she is feeling sick.
Anyhow she went to school today. Her sister stayed home.
I know what my very first eBay purchase was but it wasn't a CD...and I don't even smoke! ::)
I don't remember what my very first Internet (in general) purchase was. If it was something from Amazon, my order history goes all the way back to 1998, so that could be it. The earliest order on Amazon that they show is from Tuesday, February 10, 1998. I bought the hardback edition of Stephen Sondheim: A Casebook (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/081532054X/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details) for $47 new...it's now available USED for as little as $85! (The paperback edition is available for less.) I also got Earth 2: A Novel (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1572971703/ref=ox_ya_os_product) and Puzzle (Earth 2, Book 2) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0441001483/ref=ox_ya_os_product), which were for my sister.
I like this. I've been looking for a good salt shaker. Every time I see one I like the holes are too big.
Don't do there! Get a nice salt cellar like this one:
and fill with Kocher salt - you will use less salt this way.
PS - Don't use the spoon - just take a pich with your fingers.
True, but salt dispensing from the Empire State Building could be hazardous to your health - look what associating with that building did to poor Kong!
Back from a nice lunch with the grantwriters and an interesting presentation about Ronald McDonald House Charities. I stopped at 3 stores trying to find a spring-print skirt to go with a jacket I bought for our trip to Europe (and never wore). The stores have lots of pretty sweaters and blouses and I don't know what they expect women to wear with them, because there are very few skirts out there. Came home and shopped in my own closet and put together an Easter outfit from pieces I already had (but not THE jacket...). I can wear that with black pants, but I don't think that's very Easter-y.
DR John G, I heard about the Texas tornadoes on NPR and was glad to see you logged in here when I got home. Stay safe!
I'm not BK (and I don't remember the order) but the three are Sondheim, ALW and Bacharach.
I've decided to reread BK's memoir as I think I skipped a chapter or two. Things are refered to, but I know I haven't read them. But I really enjoyed what I've read and discovered things I didn't know. I will write a review after the reread.
Also caught a couple of errors, one I know BK has acknowledge. The other one is the reference to the original cast returning for the reunion concert. It was the original cast minus one. Charles Braswell (Larry) had passed away and was replaced by Stanley Grover.
FJL really ought to have words with his mail people - this seems to happen all too frequently.
I had a nice meeting, had lunch, picked up some packages, finished the movie I was watching, spoke to David Galligan about the Sondheim mix - he's very happy with what we did, but less than thrilled with a couple of performances, so it looks like we're removing a few tracks, which is fine by me. Doing so made the first half of the show way too short, so I suggested moving three songs from act two into act one, and I think he'll be fine with that.
Which do you go through most quickly...the salt or the iodine?
Then I finished watching a motion picture of a score we're doing - it does seem there'll be enough music to make it a stand alone.
Now I'm beginning another movie of a score we're doing, then I'll be caught up on that. I think we'll be able to put the Sondheim packaging to bed by this evening, and then hopefully tomorrow we can put the Bacharach packaging to bed.
BK, here are some questions (even though it's not yet Wednesday...and if you choose to answer) about the people whose songs have been cut (I'm just curious): did they sing other songs or were these the only songs that they sang at the concert and now won't be on the CDs at all? Also, do you know if will they be told that their songs were cut or will they find out when it's put up on the Kritzerland site? And my last question (if you know) is when were these concerts actually performed?
The Sondheim was 2007. It's really up to David Galligan to let folks know, but there's simply no way of using certain tracks. We managed to save a couple of the iffy ones, so that was good - but others could not be saved. I think only one singer had two songs - Len Cariou - and both his are on the CD. MIA will be Joan Ryan (hers is a different problem - she was quite ill at the performance and her vocal is not good - she already knows and, in fact, asked us to leave it off), the performers who did Night Waltz (it's more of a choral number), a trio on Sorry/Grateful featuring Jamie Anderson, Wilson Cruz, and Kevin Spirtas - that it's for right now - there's one other danger track that features Sean McDermott - I'm still working on that one - it's 50/50 right now.
They put it up very quickly. I was prepared for a 24-hour turnaround.
And, dammit, with all my proofreading, I still spelled "during" wrong!
-
Great review, DR elmore!
-
Has DR Jane or anyone heard about DR TCB? I will check back before I go to sleep to see.
-
Aw, shucks!
The personal touch makes it extra special.
I believe the writer of the review can edit and fix typos.
I have started reading the "Mel, me, etc" book and am quite enjoying it.
-
I hate waiting when someone has surgery. I know it takes time but I just want to know everything went ok.
-
I think any doctor who performs surgery on a hainesie/kimlet should be required to immediately post here that all is well.
I agree 1000%!!!!
From my experience with friends who have had back surgery, it is a long one. I'm sure he is out by now. I expect his friends needed to eat before returning home & sending emails to DR TCB's friends. I keep watching for news.
I went to DR TCB's Facebook page to see if anyone commented there and found the following:
"Tom, as I write you are in the recovery room. Marsha called me and it sounds like good news. Rest me friend!!"
-
I have no idea who Marsha is. She isn't the friend I'm waiting to hear from.
You were correct, and I just corrected the spelling. I had no idea!
-
I keep checking too. It was good to read he is in recovery. At least we know the surgery is over.
-
I wish I had thought to go to his FB page earlier today, would have save a lot of worrying & staying close to my computer for news. :)
Now I'll say it. A good friend of ours had a heart attack & died while having back surgery. It was an extremely long surgery. The first half went well & when they rolled him over to work from the opposite side he had the heart attack. Not that it helps much but his wife won a malpractice suit. He kept telling the doctors & nurses he felt like he was having a heart attack & they ignored him & did the surgery anyway. They also didn't do a proper work up on his heart ahead of time. I was glad DR TCB saw a cardiologist first.
-
Yikes. I'm so sorry to hear about that DR Jane.
-
I have an email!!!
The Dr. performed a laminectomy on discs T10 and T11. Tom also had a large cystic mass NOT detectable on any of the scans that was pushing on his spinal cord causing the numbness he experienced in his leg. The Dr. was able to decompress this mass, but says that only time will tell if the nerve damage is permanent. However, when I visited him after he was brought to his room, he had feeling in his toes and part of his leg which made him very happy. He will be getting up at least twice today and then transferred to Rehab tomorrow
-
Thanks Danise. It was horrible. He was only 54 at the time.
-
Well today was my 12th anniversary of working for the county. That means come October 3rd I will be half way to retirement. 12 and a half down. 12 and a half to go!
-
Congratulations DR Danise.
Wonderful news! I'm very happy to hear that! Those HHW vibes come though yet again!!!!!
More about DR TCB:
St. Joe's Rehab is one of the finest facilities in the area and he will begin PT right away. I'm not certain how long he will be there. I suppose that will depend more on how quickly he is able to get on his feet and feel comfortable again. But he will be in good hands and it is a very comfortable place to stay with a private room and all the amenities. Tom was beginning to feel the affects of pain a couple of hours after the procedure. They gave him morphine and percocet which will help while the anesthesia wears off. I was quite surprised that his surgical site is no more than 4"
VIBES DR TCB WILL SOON BE WALKING & OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR!!!
Pain free vibes to DR TCB!!!!!!
Congrats! But is that all? This June, I'll have 24 years of seniority...but it'll probably be another 22 years before I can retire! :o
Glad to hear TCB is doing well.
I know how important a good rehab hospital is. I'm very happy to learn Tom will be going to a good one. I've seen the difference it can make & the sooner he starts the better chance he has of success.
-
Good report on DR TCB! He has some work and some pain ahead of him, but it sounds very promising. Thank you to DR Jane for being our reporter.
My internet connection has been wonky tonight.
My son's are late starters because they decided to change careers. At least Bryan should make a decent salary once he is employed. Craig is facing, once again, the possibility of not enough jobs once he receives his second masters degree.
I shall shortly be on my way to mix the Bacharach show - I truly hope it's not as bad-sounding as I've been led to believe :)
Well, three more people just invited themselves to Easter dinner. That makes 12.
-
So, Laura, all the children and babies "squealed with delight" did they?
-
were you as delighted with the pitching and rolling plane?
-
No. But the kids loved it.
I can just see you now - waving your hat around your head and shouting Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee HAH!!!
Larry,
Did you fix "advicee" in the antepenultimate sentence?
Well, three more people just invited themselves to Easter dinner. That makes 12.
We're having 11 and we'll be away Thursday-Sunday! I'll make the green (Jello) eggs and get the table all ready before we leave and everyone else is bringing all the other food. Rob and Mary Linda will pick up the ham and turkey that I ordered. We should be home by 2pm on Sunday and our guests are due at 4.
Here's the link so you can all read elmore's rather wonderful and touching review on amazon - perfectly done!
THat was really a nice review Larry.
It's not a done deal, but it's possible that I might have a letter printed in this week's Entertainment Weekly. I received an e-mail earlier today asking me to confirm the spelling of my name and to give them permission to print and edit the letter I sent (it was an e-mail actually)
I think DR Jrand also had a letter printed a while back. Maybe he can give me some tips on how to handle the fame that will be coming my way...
Is it possible to put the cut songs as bonus tracks with a notation that sound quality is less than optimal?
That's the way we'uns talk here in Texas. You don't know what we're sayin', but it sounds good. Unless it comes from the governor's mouth. Then it's just the painkillers.
DR Ginny good luck with your dinner!
It's kind of out of my hands, DR Jane!
Oh--and thank you all for the vibes for Mom and me! They are all very much appreciated! You people are wonderful!
It's now up to 13. That means no formal table, no formal silverware, no setting out five wine glasses per person, no squeezing people in. People can sit where they want, drink out of what they want and just enjoy.
I had a letter printed in BBC Music Magazine many years ago. I "congratulated" them on unearthing a rare recording of Mahler's Concerto for Coughers and Throat Clearers in their free bonus CD that accompanied each issue. (It was supposed to be the Adagio from the 10th IIRC). They printed that part but edited out the part where I stated that a corporation with the BBC's resources really should be able to find less noisy live performances.
Just watched an episode of PERRY MASON. The episode title was Case of the Cowardly Lion.
It took place at a zoo and revolved around the kidnapping of a baby ape named Toto.
A direction sign behind one of the characters during a particular scene taking place at the zoo read, in this order:
Lions
Tigers
Bears
Hello, everyone.
So glad to hear the news about TCB. Thank you, Jane. I hope we'll have more reports.
Vibes now for comfort and healing.
Vibes to DR Dan the Man and his mum.
Well, I came home with the best intentions to finish it, but I watched last night's episode of "Castle" and am now watching tonight's episode of "Body of Proof."
-
I'm going to watch the last episode of "Fringe" that I have, then I'll be all caught up with everything that was on my hi-def DVR.
-
And THEN I'll finish "Album Produced By." :D
Is it possible to put the cut songs as bonus tracks with a notation that sound quality is less than optimal?
Not sure why you're not understanding - when a mic shorts out or is OFF there is no salvaging the track, so no is the answer to your question.
-
Back from a somewhat frustrating mix - first we had to make the adjustments to last night's work. Then the Bacharach show is so peculiar - I got the overture to Promises sounding halfway decent, but decided to come back to it at the end. But the entire first act of this show is a complete but cut-down Promises, Promises. So, not only do we have to mix each song (and there are, I don't know, eighteen of them), we then have to cut out all the narration and dialogue and that takes forever. In fact, we're only up to Whoever You Are - and we're having to do a lot of fixing of pitch (can't do it all - no time for that) and it's just very slow going and more than a little irritating for the engineer. So, we resume tomorrow night, but the plan of being finished with all three by then is done - we now have to work on Thursday night and them maybe even one other night, although WHAT that night is going to be is anyone's guess. The Sondheim however is done and is going to the mastering guy tonight.
-
Hope that it all goes more smoothly, BK. :)
-
"Fringe" has been watched.
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!
-
Now that the latest episode of "Fringe" has been watched, I'm going to finish "Album Produced By."
And I'm not going to sleep until it is!
Good night.
And then don't forget to pay a visit to amazon while it's all fresh in your mind :)
