Has DR Jane or anyone heard about DR TCB? I will check back before I go to sleep to see.

Aw, shucks!

They put it up very quickly. I was prepared for a 24-hour turnaround.

And, dammit, with all my proofreading, I still spelled "during" wrong!

I hate waiting when someone has surgery.  I know it takes time but I just want to know everything went ok.

I think any doctor who performs surgery on a hainesie/kimlet should be required to immediately post here that all is well.

From my experience with friends who have had back surgery, it is a long one.  I'm sure he is out by now.  I expect his friends needed to eat before returning home & sending emails to DR TCB's friends.  I keep watching for news.

I went to DR TCB's Facebook page to see if anyone commented there and found the following:

"Tom, as I write you are in the recovery room. Marsha called me and it sounds like good news. Rest me friend!!"

I have no idea who Marsha is.  She isn't the friend I'm waiting to hear from.

You were correct, and I just corrected the spelling. I had no idea!

I keep checking too.  It was good to read he is in recovery.  At least we know the surgery is over.

I wish I had thought to go to his FB page earlier today, would have save a lot of worrying & staying close to my computer for news. :)

Now I'll say it.  A good friend of ours had a heart attack & died while having back surgery.  It was an extremely long surgery.  The first half went well & when they rolled him over to work from the opposite side he had the heart attack.  Not that it helps much but his wife won a malpractice suit.  He kept telling the doctors & nurses he felt like he was having a heart attack & they ignored him & did the surgery anyway.  They also didn't do a proper work up on his heart ahead of time.  I was glad DR TCB saw a cardiologist first.

I have an email!!!

The Dr. performed a laminectomy on discs T10 and T11.  Tom also had a large cystic mass NOT detectable on any of the scans that was pushing on his spinal cord causing the numbness he experienced in his leg.  The Dr. was able to decompress this mass, but says that only time will tell if the nerve damage is permanent.  However, when I visited him after he was brought to his room, he had feeling in his toes and part of his leg which made him very happy.  He will be getting up at least twice today and then transferred to Rehab tomorrow

More about DR TCB:

St. Joe's Rehab is one of the finest facilities in the area and he will begin PT right away. I'm not certain how long he will be there.  I suppose that will depend more on how quickly he is able to get on his feet and feel comfortable again.  But he will be in good hands and it is a very comfortable place to stay with a private room and all the amenities.  Tom was beginning to feel the affects of pain a couple of hours after the procedure.  They gave him morphine and percocet which will help while the anesthesia wears off.  I was quite surprised that his surgical site is no more than 4"

Congrats!  But is that all?  This June, I'll have 24 years of seniority...but it'll probably be another 22 years before I can retire! :o

I know how important a good rehab hospital is.  I'm very happy to learn Tom will be going to a good one.  I've seen the difference it can make & the sooner he starts the better chance he has of success.

Good report on DR TCB!  He has some work and some pain ahead of him, but it sounds very promising.  Thank you to DR Jane for being our reporter.
