After 1999, bcause BK had really goosed my career with a lot of albums and nice reviews, I often turned him down when he called me about a project because there was too much else going on. As a result, there was a period of about three years between 2000 and 2003 where we never communicated. I was off to London with John McGlinn, working on a BBC Cole Porter project for the Cole Porter Trust, the Rodgers & Hammerstein Orgnization had a ballet, I did the first recording for the notorious Jerome Records, etc; he was recording an album I'd turned down because I'd just had a bad experience with its conductor/arranger, he did a Liz Callaway album that I now regret being unable to do it all, and he was fighting for his life, something I didn't know about until bits and pieces of inaccurate gossip and innuendo finally reached me in 2002 (I was completely focused on Toyland and its daily crises). In late 2003, I was helping Liz Callaway with her library and I learned about Bruce's new web site, HHW. That gave me a chance to send him an email and reconnect.
When I finished the book, my initial feeling was a great sadness that I had missed the entire mess and wasn't around to help a friend in trouble. So, once I figure out whwere all of this is going, i'll see what I can do about Amazon.
