Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of twelve pages but were only three pages, and now it is time for you to post until the twelve cows come home.

I have one more to watch tonight....after work....

I have a similar history with SILENT RUNNING, which is to say, hardly any history at all.  Oddly enough, I bought that UK Blu-ray probably well over a year ago.  I think I'd read something that made it sound like a pretty good transfer of a pretty good film that would be well worth catching up with the rest of the world on.  But I still haven't sat down and watched it.  Or even stood up and watched it.  I shall look forward to reading what MR BK thinks after finishing it.

At 1 p.m. today I'll be sitting myself down in the local AMC to watch the Met's LES TROYENS "Live in HD".  I have (or did have at one time) a passing familiarity with the piece, having listened to my taped 1980s Levine broadcasts over and over.  It will be very interesting to see/hear Fabio Luisi conducting it, and to see the thing for my first time since the days of the Pioneer laserdisc.

Saturday evening greetings from Bloomsbury!  We've had 2 full days with  Frs. Klukas (liturgy & art history) and Peay (church history).  Yesterday we boarded our chartered bus and went to St. Paul's Cathedral.  Spent a couple of hours there, then had a nice 2- hour bus tour of London highlights conducted by Kathleen.  She dropped us at the British Museum for 2 hours of touring, followed by a lovely dinner in the rotunda restaurant.  Short walk back to the hotel.

This morning we boarded our bus at 8:30 and headed for Canterbury.  Walked around the St. Martin's churchyard, then headed for the Cathedral quarter.  A cousin of one of our parishioners met us for lunch, after which we rejoined our group for a guided tour of the Cathedral and choral evensong.  Got back to hotel about 6 and we have the evening free.  Richard and I are spending it at Starbucks catching up with our email and social networking.

Topic of the Day:

Everything that's been mentioned, but I'd like to add "Just Because It's Magic" from Geppetto.  It's a duet between (on the soundtrack) Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Drew Carey.  It's one of those two-songs-sung-at-the-same-time songs that I love.  And it's just a cute duet. :D

Well, I've watched the pbs special. Wish I could say that I liked it better. I don't know if an extra half-hour would have helped. I don't discount any of the material included, but I guess it was just another of those specials, as has been pointed out here, that is not for theater aficionados. Everything in it has been shown and said before. It was just repackaged.

I have spent a lovely afternoon with the McLaughlin-Morellis, and a god time was had by me; I cannot vouch for them. I love visiting them at Christmas, It's like visiting Santa's shop: the tree is gorgeous; the stuffed animals are at their best; little treats are everywhere, the Yule log is burning with carolers being melodious; and even the front door this year was a golden sparkling vision.  I do not remember its being so splendid last year.

Ben and Anthony are really fantastic hosts, and I very much enjoyed their company. Thank you, gentlemen!

So the Vixter and I went to see Twilight - the final  movie in the series

I'm not sure if you or the Vixter have read Breaking Dawn. But there is something that they do in the movie that is totally different from how they did it in the book. And I thought how they did it in the movie was incredible.

I'll put spoiler space in case anyone here is going to see the movie or read the book.

*
*
*
*
*
*
In the movie Breaking Dawn Part 2 - after Alice arrives and all the bad guys arrive (the big fight scene). Well that whole scene was amazing to watch on screen. I absolutely loved it how heads were flying ... the way they played out the whole fight. And then how they showed that that was what would have happened.  Well no fight scene in the book. So imagine all the Twilight fans freaking out during the movie thinking that the director had changed the book.  I thought what he did was great. Because the film is so visual it needed a scene like that. But to change the book. Well that would not have been good. So this was the best of both worlds.

We had a wonderful stumble-through - cast is amazing, Hal Linden is an utter delight, and the songs are pure heaven.  Only two teeny-tiny lyric flubs, both covered very well.  I only had to give two tiny notes, that's how good the singers are doing.

Then a few of us went to Hugo's.  I had the pasta papa (not nearly as much as usual and I shared some of it) and a small Caesar (much smaller than usual).  Nice dinner, nice conversation.  I'm home now and must really buckle down, Winsocki, as I've written less that two new pages today.  I did spend a bit of time finessing the previous day's writing, so there's that, but two pages will simply not do.  Once I'm through this chapter, then it's somewhat easier for the next few chapters.

We had a wonderful stumble-through - cast is amazing, Hal Linden is an utter delight, and the songs are pure heaven.  Only two teeny-tiny lyric flubs, both covered very well.  I only had to give two tiny notes, that's how good the singers are doing.

Is that 101 Daimajins?

Ran a few errands, came home, watched a few Twilight Zones, and now I must needs work on a few excerpts from BARNUM that I'll record for these people tomorrow for use as audition accompaniment.  Then, back to the TV room and the Blu-rays.

SPOILER!!!!! SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!

We did read the book and I suspect most of the audience had as well -  It was a very well behaved audience  - no  talking  or texting when that scene started there were shocked exclamations of "What?!" " No!"  " How could they?!"

when the Alice reveal came the Vixter actually said out loud, "Thank God!"  and there was applause and laughter because everyone felt the same way

[/sub]

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!SPOILER!

It sounds great, so far.  Continued good vibes.

If I could take the musical numbers away from the script, it would be a lot better.

Funny thing is, that's why I put the movie on. The taste of Sparkle, for the very same reason, was so bad that I thought this would be a relief.

started thinking of RR movies -- Butch Cassidy, The Sting , the Great Gatsby

What is the name of the one where he is a ski champion.
Was that "Downhill Racer'? or am I thinking of another ski movie?

Yes, that is the correct one.  A group of us used to gather and watch it on TV, just for the one scene where he comes out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel.

The script was just terrible, even though it was fairly close to the novel. But then again, what's good about the novel isn't the story. It's the sentences. Fitzgerald writes just beautiful sentences. And there's nothing dramatic in that.

OK, so the movie is over, but not before the little girl toppled Bing and then straddled him. 'Cause you know, pedophilia jokes are really funny!

Wow, we've had us a frenzy.  I had my own writing frenzy, too - I really didn't see how I was going to write more than five or six pages today and that's no crime at all, but after watching episode two of The Killing III, I decided to write another page or two and ended up doing six more pages - so, twelve again.  That's become the magic number with this book, I think.  Today's writing was basically feeling my way through a tricky section, but I got past that and am now into a sequence that's easy to write.  After that, then it will just be methodically going from one thing to another.
