Title: PITCHING WOO
Post by: bk on August 14, 2013, 12:37:00 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes pitched woo, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently pitching MOO.

Good morning, all! In about 15 minutes we rehearse with Annalene and Eamonn on their duet "The Touch Of Your Hand." I just came from breakfast with Jason,Glenn, Annalene,  and Patrick.  The butter and eggs are so much better than those in the States.

It's good to know that Sandy's show went well.

I will return after the rehearsals.

Well, now I'm happy I didn't get to BODY DOUBLE last night.  This time it makes sense to read what BK has to say in the notes, watch for these things with a critical, demanding eye, and be done with it.

I'm especially happy to read those words about DRESSED TO KILL, which, when it came out on Blu-ray a couple of years ago, I started to watch ..... and couldn't get through it!  As with BODY DOUBLE, I hadn't returned to it since it opened.  I do remember the great audience expectation and excitement at all of these.  At least in Hollywood and Westwood.  The only "Hitchcock" ones I went back to a few times were SISTERS and OBSESSION.  Might Bernard Herrmann's contributions have had something to do with that?  Why yes, I believe so.  These other ones got the one-time "dutiful" attendance.

Was not a fan of Body Double back in the day. Craig Wasson always seemed to self-conscious and "actor-y" in ways that I found distracting. That said, I think he's a fine reader of audio books. I know I've listened to him read a couple of Stephen King books and enjoyed those.

An "Ask Bk" item:

Bruce knows all too well how students of film music (i.e. musicians AND fans) are attuned to the styles of various film music composers.   We could do a "Name That Tune" contest and identify composers by two or three notes...and the scores by an additional several notes, probably.

This is not about that, but it's close to that.

Last night, I had a dream.  I'm not one to relay dreams here at HainesHisWay, but this one was rather odd and I thought I'd share it with (and "ask") BK.

In my dream, I am reunited with some college friends and we're having a great deal of fun talking about old times.   During this dream, one of my friends -- who has spent his life in liturgical music -- proposes we play a game sort of like "Name That Tune".  The twist is that we dont' name that tune but we sing that tune.

My turn comes, my friend draws a slip of paper out of a bag, and tells me to sing "The Yarmulke Song".

!!

??

In the dream, I'm confident I know what "The Yarmulke Song" is and I begin to think of the pitch on which it starts.*

And then I woke up.

And I don't know a "Yarmulke" song.

I've never heard of one.

So, BK:  I'm wondering if there is such a song.

*My best guess is that I was going to sing the Hanukkah song and substitute "Yarmulke" for "Hanukkah".

Lovely photos from DR LAURA.

DR RLP the Dream-O-Matic says that your dream indicates your wish to reconnect with those from your past especially those with whom you may have had conflicts or disagreements.  Being chosen to sing the YARMULKE song and being sure that you know it says that you are confident in your ability to accomplish a new task or duty recently handed you with very little guidance or instruction.

Rehearsals are  over for today.  This morning we rehearsed Eamonn, Annalene, and Jason. Kim Criswell arrived about 1:45, so she went to lunch with Jason, Rob, and me.  At 3:00 we had John Molloy, Eamonn, Annalene, Patrick, Jason, and Kim, and we read through most of the dialogue.

Tomorrow Aine, Chrissy, and Mary join us, and we  will read and play through the entire show. Working all of the music and dialogue together.  Jason and Kim are a lethal combination, and the laughs and insults are coming fast and furious. At break, a lot of the cast went off for a pint, and I need a lie down.

Tonight, I'm going to a concert of Irish music at the National Concert Hall, the place where we recorded EILEEN in 2011. Our concert mistress Fionnuala Hunt, her sister Una, and her niece Rachel Kelly are performing.

And now, time for a lie down.

Are you thinking of moving to Indiana, MBarnum?

Speaking of moving, I have news to share with you all. The DH and I will, like Mary Richards, be moving to the Twin Cities. The DH has been wanting to be closer to his family for some time, and has in the past few weeks received a call to become an organist/Music Director at an Episcopal church in St. Paul, Minnesota. It is all very sudden, and he will be moving permanently next week to begin to gear up for the start of the program year. He will also continue to work his NYC job remotely.

My timeline is more uncertain, as we obviously still have obligations here, and I have no job in Minnesota. But sometime between now and next spring, I will be packing up our apartment and completing our move. It is stressful and hectic, but also an exciting opportunity. I am not looking forward to returning to "job search" mode, but we will deal with one thing at a time.

This is very surprising news.  I wish you both the very best.  Moving long distance isn't easy and more difficult when you can't always be together.  I know having done it too many times.

I wish you all the best.

Greetings, BK & DR's All,

Well, I'm all in a DITHER after seeing that you watched BODY DOUBLE last night, BK. I am actually in the film for about 3 seconds, if I recall. I was a day player/glorified extra in the elevator at the Beverly Connection, when the  door opens and we all see the Indian growling at the Wasson and Co. I thought the film was so bad, I only ever watched it once, even though I appeared in it.

Fun song too. I'm grateful never had to do bus and trucks. Touring was exhausting enough. Oy. ; p

I'm thrilled you'll be doing a second anniversary show, but I won't be able to make a matinee. *Pitches Boo*   :D

It's nearly 11:00pm and time for bed. Tonight, Rob, Judy Sherman, and I went to the National Concert Hall for an evening of 19th and 20th century Irish composers, performed by Una Hunt, pianist, her sister Fionnuala, our concert mistress, and her daughter Rachel Kelly, who's now with the Royal Opera and featured on both EILEEN and DEAREST ENEMY. It was very warm in the space, and I couldn't wait to get out. The weather is cool but ridiculously humid and my clothing is sticking to me. I hate it.

There were several piano-violin pieces, and  Rachel sang several Irish songs and unknown opera arias by Wallace and Balfe, closing with the glorious "I Dreamed I Dwelt In Marble Halls." We visited  briefly and headed back to the Club. Tomorrow will be an intense rehearsal day. On Friday, the cast has a day off, and Judy, Rob and I are in orchestra rehearsals.

Here is one of the recordings of the Hunt sisters.

Jane - Do you mean don't be sensitive, don't be insensitive or both?

Don't get upset by what the other person says to you if they aren't as nice as they might be.  We all get a bit stressed during a move like that.

Of course opposite to that the separation does make the heart grow fonder. ;)

Yes and true.

I could easily have gotten upset the time Keith dropped my 40th anniversary ring in front of me and stepped on it super fast.  When I bent down to be helpful and pick up what he dropped he yelled "I can get it myself".  Instead of a funny memory associated with the ring I would have had hurt feeling and an argument had I not shrugged off his odd behavior.

Sometimes during long stressful moves there can be a few of those "odd behavior" moments.  On one end you have someone coping with a new job, and in Keith's situation no friends, while on my end I had the house and children to deal with.  We just rolled with the punches and all was fine.

VIBES ALL GOES VERY SMOOTHLY FOR DR SINGDAW!!!!

Some bacon probably wouldn't hurt none, either.

I was just perusing Playbill.com and saw this article (it was on the main page...not too difficult to find ;)):  Tom Skerritt Will Make Broadway Debut in A Time to Kill; Casting Complete (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/181129-Tom-Skerritt-Will-Make-Broadway-Debut-in-A-Time-to-Kill-Casting-Complete).  The article also has pictures of the cast in the Washington, D.C. production right now.

I remember one time I was at SeaTac airport and he walked by me!  He was just walking the opposite direction that I was and it was pretty crowded.  I even turned around to make sure that that was him. :) He lives in the Puget Sound area.

Well, I must be off.  Our rehearsal tonight doesn't start until 8:00, so I didn't have to leave as early as previous days.  But now, I have to leave.  We're going to work most of the second act, which I am somewhat secure on, but I have one line, a sort of tirade, that I do not yet have completely memorized.  I'm sure I won't be the only one who has unmemorized lines like that. ::)

;)

Richard Kiley has a supporting role. Really good performance. And a very old Adolphe Menjou.

George, the DC production was in 2011.  A couple of our DRs saw it.  I am planning to go to NYC to see it this fall, just don't know when yet

That gentleman with the mustache in the front row is quite a hottie.  At least he is with make-up on.

DR Elmore, if you think about it (like you have nothing else to think about), you might mention to Jason that your friend TCB will be lunching tomorrow with his friend Sharry O'hare.

Perhaps your next book can be on hearty delicacies of the Midwest.     :)

Like lefse (which I like) and lutefisk (which I would have to be starving to eat, believe me once is enough).

I like lutefisk if you eat them with enough potatoes and butter.....especially butter

And a clothespin on your nose.

I am not looking forward to returning to "job search" mode, but we will deal with one thing at a time.

congratulations -  I hope we can have at least one more HHW meet before you leave

Back from the Marilyn and Alan Bergman evening - it was ill attended (about half full) but fun.  But it will be the last time I ever go to any venue run by AMPAS (the motion picture Academy), for reasons I'll explain in the notes.

Tonight's rehearsal was a little short, only about an hour and a half.  My big police scene was not rehearsed because my acting partner, Guy, was not there and a lot of what I do is in reaction to what he does and says.  I could've said the lines, but that's about it.  Guy will be at rehearsal tomorrow, so that'll be good.  We're starting at our regular time of 7:00, so we'll actually be able to run the entire show at least a couple of times.  I'd better finish memorizing all of my lines! :o

:D
