HAIL ON THE CHIEF, my non-political political comedy, was recently recorded by The Colonial Radio Theatre on the air, and is now available for audio download on Amazon, audible.com and, shortly, iTunes.

This is the straight play version of the musical comedy that my son, David, and I (with the help of BK) tried to mount five years ago.

Jerry Robbins and the rest of the cast do a terrific job in this recording, so please take a listen.

Having stayed up till All Hours last night -- well, just to Some Hours, but it felt like All this morning -- I tried the going back to bed thing again.  And it didn't take.  So, I stayed in bed late but didn't sleep late.  Oh well.

I tried to watch Plan 9, but I kept falling asleep. What I saw of it was pretty bad.

DVD:
Cat People (1982) is what I watched last night and, perhaps surprisingly, I loved it.  (Had only ever seen it in '82.)  Might get the BLU for a bit of an upgrade, even though the reviews from those I trust come with an Oy factor.  (Digitally scrubbed till hell wouldn't have it again.)

Hmm.  Music-wise and other-movie-wise, don't know yet.  But I'm ripe for a good binge.

Anyone who is a fan of Jason Robert Brown and wants a sneak preview of the new "Bridges of Madison County" cast recording can find it here:

It seems like the entire album here. I'm listening now, on about the 6th track of 20, and it sounds pretty gorgeous. Enjoy!   :D

"It wasn’t that there was that much actual meat in the sandwich, because there wasn’t – but with the lettuce, tomato and the HUGE bun, you couldn’t actually eat it as a sandwich.  I had to cut it up and eat it in little bits."

O.M.G.

Lettuce?  Tomato?  HUGE bun?  These words don't even belong in the same zip code with a Sloppy Joe.

I don't know from Fred 62, but it sounds like the perfect example of a place that has chosen chef-izing basic, delicious comfort foods, over just presenting them competently and well.  Get out while you can, BK!

Well, I gave it a listen, the Bridges, that is, which is free today, in case anyone wants to listen. Did everyone know that? Free. Today. Listen.

Well, IMHO, when it's good, which is more than half of the time, it's really enjoyable. Soaring melodies, plenty of ripe and welcome passion. When it's not, as when Kelli drops the accent midway through a phrase (and she pronounces her "th"s far better than anyone from a foreign country I've ever heard), or when a song just doesn't build or land, then it barely reaches OK.

It's been a strange week and not helped by my erratic sleeping patterns--if you can call it a pattern at all. At times I am desperate for sleep. I go to bed early, but don't fall asleep until 1:30 am. Other nights I fall asleep right away, but wake up at 5 am, knowing full well I won't be able to go back to sleep. If it wasn't for my favorite little Rescue Sleep product I question whether I'd sleep at all. The problem is partly noise and partly me. Sigh.

Speaking of pie, I had a piece of their strawberry pie a couple weeks ago. It was the first strawberry pie I'd eaten in maybe twenty years. I'm sorry to say it was a disappointment. The strawberries were HUGE--maybe that was part of the problem--but tasteless. All I could taste was the sweet syrup that covered them.

DR George, I agree with you that you didn't actually have to change your Rx for a quarter diopter. I did so once, against my optician's advice, but I was reading lots of very fine print at the time and it did help. Much easier than using a magnifying glass and much better than straining my eyes. For me, at that time, it was the right decision. As you said, you'll now have a good spare, too.

Dan M, how are you doing?

Thank you for asking DR Jeanne.  I'm feeling pretty good and energetic today.  While I've not yet gotten any official news from my oncologist, I did log in to the website that has my blood work results from this past Wednesday.  From my layman's understanding, it seems as though my blood work is making some kind of comeback, very slowly.  Still can't be around a lot of kids due to their propensity to be petrie dishes in Keds.

Going to a local production of "Catch Me If You Can" tonight. Stated listening to the cast recording the other day. Kinda heartless and kinda soulless pastiche score of 1960s variety shows. Lots of pizazz, not a whole lot going on .Certainly nothing on par with the score from Hairspray, which is the same writers. I do like Tom Wopat, one of MBarnum's favorites, on the recording. He seems right at home with the style of music. He wears it well.

And I also mentioned that I don't love my current frames.  Even though I had to pay for new ones, they'll be a little bit smaller, so that when (not if) I need to look over or under them to read something up close (like this: 8) because I only need them for distance)...it'll be easier.

Sigh.

Does your white noise maker sooth you to sleep at all? I find if I want to nap and turn that on it helps a lot.

What a busy little day this relaxing day turned into.  I had a meatless Cobb salad and a bagel for my meal o' the day, picked up some packages, stopped at CVS to get a few things, then came home.  Then I had to spend ninety minutes matching cue titles to the tracks - very hard, but got it done so just waiting on cue titles for the third title in our release, then I can get the packaging done.  Then Kay Cole came over and we went through my Abner questions and made a few adjustments.  Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish, just to close my eyes for a few minutes.

So I bought them a 5 handset phone system (well cordless phones) and put one by each of their chairs, one by each of their beds and then the main stations.  We left their other phones where they were.  Now they have about 10 different phones they can answer.  Perhaps I will get fewer of the "did you just call me" calls

Then we moved a desk into the den where dad hangs out a lot.  I moved his desktop computer down from his bedroom and got him set up in his den. So he has his recliner, his tv and his computer all in one spot where he can look outside.  His computer was in the far corner of his bedroom and wasn't a real pleasant place to sit all the time.  I did set up his old computer in the bedroom so if he can't sleep and wants to get on the computer he doesn't have to go downstairs

We had a very fun lunch at Don Jose's.   I told them in Spanish that it was mom's birthday, so she was surprised when they came with a sparkler in her flan and put a sombrero on her while everyone sang happy birthday.  There was a big table next to us that joined in.  She pretends she doesn't like people to make a big deal, but she loves it.

The funniest part was she had just said "I'm glad they don't know it's my birthday because I don't want that hat on my head that's been worn by who knows who" when they came and put the sombrero on her head.  LOL, she loved it

Thanks for the support!  My white blood cells did double since the last test 2 weeks ago, so that (hopefully) means the bone marrow is working again.  I've gone through very aggressive treatments that sent all my blood markers practically to zero.  So you are absolutely right.  It's good for me to hear from you.  I guess I do get impatient and want to forget that I am still recuperating.

Here I am last week with one of my many great oncology doctors, Dr. Archaya, who often would visit me (besides daily rounds) while I was in the deepest part of chemo treatments.  He insisted that I call him by his nickname, "Udi".  We would talk and talk about movies, which took my mind off of feeling lousy.  In this photo, I look like I'm pregnant, but that's the ventral hernia making its presence known to all.
