Well, you've read the notes, the notes clapped in rhythm, and now it is time for you to post until the clapping cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GALENICAL!
-
Good morning to all

TOD
Hootering and hollering and cat calls to show appreciation. I think this has come from all the music reality shows that encourage it. I prefer applause.
I also dislike standing ovations for shows or performers that do not deserve it. It seems that every show and performer get them no matter what.
Things I Miss:
The front curtain that will rise after the overture. Very few shows do it now and I know it's a cost thing, but work it into the budget! Some of magic is gone when you walk into the theater and you already see the set. Imagine if Wicked (A show I am not a fan of) had curtain that rose to reveal that great set!
-
and why am I up so early?
-
and where are all the other early risers.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I will shortly head to Toyland. I have some printing and binding to accomplish, since I took in the wrong material the other day.
This has been a week for really strange dreams. A couple of nights ago, I dreamed I was shopping in a place like Walmart with Patricia Routledge, and last night I had a strange dream about the characters in BONES, zombies, and Emily Deschanel floating out to sea on top of a grand piano.
I blame the drugs.
-
TOD:
I'm a little tired of the standing ovation, too.
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
DR ELMORE should not read the TV Guide just before going to bed.
-
TOD:
As written by DR MICHAEL. I do not like many things audiences think they must do nowadays.....the vocal reactions to high notes or held notes.....talking amongst themselves and even to the actors on the stage....talking on PHONES......and clapping in rhythm as mentioned in the notes.
I also miss the stage curtain. So many shows are so LOUD, too....I am glad I can hear everything.....but it's TOO LOUD.
-
Good morning.
-
and where are all the other early risers.
I am pleased to say I was sleeping.
-
Good morning, all.
And a late one it is. Well, I got just a little extra sleep, which I sorely needed.
-

All of the above.
And whatever anybody else says, too.
You name it, I'm agin' it! :)

Yes, "Mary Poppins" was too long. The show time was 7:30 pm and Mark and I were surprised when we got in the car afterwards and the clock read 9:52 pm. We were going to try to find a little taco stand on Thousand Oaks Blvd. called Bad Ass Tacos, so we headed down the boulevard towards home, but when it was obvious we were going in the wrong direction, I didn't bother to turn around, as I was sure it would be closed by then.
My other issue with the show was that I couldn't hear the spoken lines or the lyrics very well, as it was all drowned out by the orchestra. There was quite a bit of spoken dialog that would come in the middle of a song, and since it was in the middle of a song, the orchestra never stopped playing. Albeit they played softly, but I still missed all the funny lines (of which there weren't that many). Add to that the fact that half the dialog was spoken by children who don't really know how to project and the rest spoken in English accents made the whole thing hard to understand. The actor who played Bert was quite good (he was loud enough anyway) and Juliana Hansen did a lovely job, of course.
-
I could go for some Bad Ass Tacos right about now.
-
It sounds like this MARY POPPINS was a production of sufficient caliber to have avoided subjecting its paying audiences to these indignities.
(Oh, how I do amuse myself. It is to laugh! ha ha ha!) :)
-
Quite.
-
Just got my FANTASTICKS Blu-ray. I've never seen this, even though the old DVD has been in the house for years. Looking forward to it, and of course to the new commentary.
-
Good Morning! And a fine one it is!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
What happened to all the posts? Did the server eat them?
-
I have no news, so I can't help out much in that respect.
-
We've been having "June gloom" here in LA--cool, low 60s, overcast. Some people don't like it, especially when we have it in May or June. But I like it. Since it no longer rains, it's as close as we get to a rainy, stay-in-and-curl-up-with-a-book kind of day.
-
VIBES for BETTER HEALTH DRs MIKE, DAN M, ELMORE, and all in need.
-
TTFN.
-
I am home from Toyland and we are still on Page One?
-
DR Ben and Anthony came to visit. That was fun.
-
My opinion of MARY POPPINS is that it has one of the most putrid and unmusical orchestrations I have ever heard come from a Broadway pit. I can think of few shows where the pianists have worked so hard to so little effect.
-
!! 2 !!
-
it is nice when the NY DR'S get together.
-
I have learned two things today (so far):
1. The additional MARY POPPINS songs are a dud.
2. The orchestrations are a dud.
Haineshisway.com has thereby just saved me a ton of money! :)
-
we are having a clear day to enjoy the scenic drive back to Ashland. I am trying to remember not to call it home.
-
We visited our new home this morning before leaving. There were a couple of little rabbits on the lawn outside our window. The entire area seems to be filled with rabbits :)
-
Already we have found more restaurants we enjoy than in Ashland. We also found yummy ice cream
-
One restaurant has delicious Margaritas and the other terrific ones.
-
We just drove into rain. I checked email and when I looked back up it was no longer clear & blue.

Ditto and Ditto and Ditto...although here in Olympia, there is only one theater that even has a grand drape, so an actual rising curtain isn't an option for most groups.
-
If I remember correctly, when I saw the tour of Wicked in Seattle, they did have their curtain down before the show started.
-
The other REALLY irritating thing in musical theater, at least in Olympia, is that when a couple of theaters have musicals, they have their speaker volume turned up so damped high! It's like the sound guys can't hear so they have to have the volume up too loud for everyone else.
>:(

Wel, I need to go now. I'm going to go to work and make up a few hours, and then pick up my friend from the airport. I'll drive her car (it's got a CD player!) so I'll pick that up after work.
Have a good day, all!

Saturday afternoon greetings! I slept until after 8:30 this morning then had to rush around to get to my hair appointment by 10. From there I went to do errands and to visit Mom, all in torrential rain showers. So, my hair-do needs some repair before Richard and I go downtown for the Middletown Historical Society annual dinner tonight.
But Mom was pretty chipper, which is something...
-
I almost said something about the orchestration of Mary Poppins - they really are dreadful, and the opening short "overture" was so ill played I didn't know what I was listening to.
-
TOD - unnecessary amplification. The FORBIDDEN BROADWAY I saw last weekend was done in a very small room in which good singers should be able to project sufficiently. The sound system just distorted the lyrics and made my ear buzz.
-
I'm finally up. Didn't get to sleep until almost three and really not understanding what show dear readers Amy and Mark saw that was only two-and-a-half hours long. I woke up at eight, fell back asleep until nine, saw that my request to move the Sami session to one was okay, went back to bed, call at ten-thirty asking if we could move the Sami session even later to three, I said yes, fell back asleep and woke up at noon. I'm sure I somehow got eight hours of sleep during all that time.
-
Yes, we had a lovely visit with Larry this morning/afternoon. We talked and talked (and we didn't talk about any of you, oddly enough).
He gave us lovely parting gifts (due to the closing of the office).
It's a beautiful Manhattan spring day and we have taken advantage of it.
That's all for now.

Went to Jerry's at one-thirty. Now, most of you know I go to Jerry's almost daily. I know the deal. No one can say I don't know the deal. And the deal on Saturday is that you can basically go any damn time you like and you'll get right in, ESPECIALLY on Saturday at one damn thirty. But noooo - this must be National Lunch at One-Thirty Day because there was a damn line out the damn door. NEVER in my years of Jerry's has that happened on Saturday at one-thirty. So, I picked up no damn packages and drove to Hugo's - line out the damn door. So, I drove directly to the Studio Cafe, because one-forty five on a Saturday is ghost town time over there - nooooo, two people ahead of me and jammed. I said quite simply, "No, I don't need to wait so that I can then give you money." I gave up after that, which is going to be really unpleasant because I cannot now eat until five at the earliest.
-
Still on Page 2?
I had some lunch and a brief nap.
-
Lunch, what a concept. Not in LA - not at one-thirty.
-
And page two? Really?
-
Late lunch/early dinner vibes for MR BK.
-
Didn't P.L. Travers have it written in her contract that ANY additional songs written for a stage musical version of MARY POPPINS have to be written by British songwriters and that the Sherman Bros. were expressly forbidden to add to the score for the stage?
-
I was up at 7 and by 9:30 I had:
1. Had my car's mandatory yearly state inspection completed
2. Been to the dentist and had 2 fillings replaced
3. Met with one of the office closers and retrieved a file
4. Been to the church and set communion for chapel and main sanctuary
-
felt really good about the great start on the day and all the time ahead of me to Get Things Accomplished
-
then I took an unexpected nap and discovered it was already 1 PM
-
so I went grocery shopping
-
got home around 3:30
-
put away the groceries and sat down
-
and took another unexpected nap
-
Things Were Not Accomplished
-
and rather than feeling rested I feel groggy

Page 3 at 6:30 Eastern time?

TOD: The same as BK's! When everyone else is clapping in rhythm I hold my ground and clap quickly (not that the performers can hear).

Speaking of theatre, today I went to see Dame Edna's Glorious Goodbye: the Farewell Tour.
-
Since I've had luck with the lottery at the National Theatre for Pippin and Blithe Spirit, I decided to try for Dame Edna too. As it turns out, everyone won as there were 20 seats available for the lottery and only about 10 were needed.
-
For $25, I got a box seat. Great view of the show, except for the film clips at the beginning. But for that price, the seat was great. And what was really good was that I could see all the people from the audience (in about the first 6 rows) that the Dame made part of the show.
-
The show was just hilarious. And at the end Barry Humphries comes out as himself and gives a little history of his alter ego.
-
My Niece is planning on visiting NY next year with her husband and I am trying to assist her with locating a good place to stay would any DRs be willing to share suggestions for nice a hotel?
-
and took another unexpected nap
I do understand about Impromptu Napping. I am quite familiar with it.

I am green with envy. I'd love to see Dame Edna. I love her!
Yes, you don't want to sit too close or you're fair game.
-

But who is this Barry Humphries fellow? ;)
-
Vixmom, I think you got quite a lot done--besides the naps, I mean.
-
Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN had a report this weekend saying how good a nap during the day is for you.
-
Where IS everyone today?
-

Really? Did he say how long? If I sleep too much during the day it disturbs my sleep at night.

I was happy to see Dame Edna maybe 10 years ago in NYC, but was not one of the lucky ones to be given a "glad" or picked to be onstage, even though the Dame walked right past my row several times.
-
I saw Dame Edna a few years ago, and she is most entertaining.
She stopped the show about 8:15 when some latecomers arrived.....she carried on a conversation with them as they found their seats and then asked them where they came from....they named a local town.
"That's remarkable," she said...."I came all the way from Australia, and I got here on time."

That seems to be a staple in her act. A man whose seat was in the front row arrived late. She asked him where he was from and he said Herndon, Virginia, which is about an hour from DC. Dame Edna gave the same response about being from Australia.
-
I saw Dame Edna about 15 years ago or so and she was wonderful! Her alter-ego BH did not come out after that show. It was strictly the Dame and her accompanist.

I'm done with work and am about to head to Seattle to pick up my friend and her daughter from the airport. Since I didn't get to go to Silver Platters when I dropped them off, I found directions to another SP location (it's actually farther south so it's closer) and will go there before picking them up. It's open until 10:00 pm and the flight doesn't come in until 11:00, so I have lots of time! Hope I actually find something that I want to get. :D
Until later!

My Niece is planning on visiting NY next year with her husband and I am trying to assist her with locating a good place to stay would any DRs be willing to share suggestions for nice a hotel?
DR Vixmom, when we don't rent an apartment Richard and I like to stay at the Broadway @ Times Square hotel on 46th St., between 6th and 7th. It used to be a Comfort Inn. Not big and flashy, but it's a great location and quite comfortable.
-

That reminds me. Keith's cousin asked for play suggestion and I was distracted by Vancouver.
What plays should I suggest she see?
-
We like our realtor in Vancouver very much. He is also a realtor and a contractor and has been very helpful to us. He looks like Martin Freeman only a bit older.
-
Have you closed on the condo yet?
-
This doesn't look good!
-
I hope I can get some help tonight.

Well, three it toast.

I feel terribly tired despite the two naps today I hope I am not coming down with something just as the weather is finally turning nice
-
Thank you for the recommendation, Ginny. I booked a room for my for my niece through booking.com the nice thing is that it is fully refundable right up until 24 hours before the day of checkin
-
got home around 3:30
Did you go to Jersey for groceries?

No but I tried a new market about a 1/2 hour drive away and spent some time browsing. I went there because I was told they had some particular British imports I wanted for Vixdad but they did not have the items I wanted. Although I did buy him three crunchy bars which he was quite happy to receive

I don't think I have ever heard of booking.com.

Has anyone ever stayed in the hotels down around the Empire State Building?
-
I always tend to stay form 42nd Street north. I don't know why, I just always do.
-
The Row, formerly the Milford Plaza, looks like they have done a nice job remodeling.
-
I am sure that they still have some of those little phone booth rooms that they dump you in if you show up late for your reservation.
-
That is the trouble of flying in from the West Coast.
-
I really have an itch to come to New York.
-
It is totally impractical.
-
But it would be great!
-
Ah well.
-
The banker at my new credit union called me and asked me to drop off some piece of paper today. If I didn't know better, I would say he was flirting with me.
-
I am old enough to
have slept with be his grandfather.
-
George asked the other day why I had been using a credit union in Olympia when I live in Tacoma.
-
When I first signed up with the credit union, it was called the Social and Health Services Credit Union, and I worked for Social and Health Services.
-
When they changed the name I just stayed with them.
-
Most credit unions in the Northwest have shared banking with other credit unions, so it wasn't like I had to drive to Olympia just to make a deposit.
-
But Alaska USA CU is trying hard to get new members.
-
They offered to refinance my car loan at 2.5% interest.
-
Had an interesting Sami work session - back to old habits because she's been sick so hadn't once looked or thought about the show - can't do that and she finally has realized that this has to be the most important thing right now. Gave her lots of notes and things to think about and we'll see how tomorrow goes. I do think she'll automatically be not so hyper when there are people there. She rushed everything so fast today that it literally shaved five minutes off the running time - unbelievable.
-
That would save me over $1000.00 in interest.
-
One more to go.
-
After, I refused to give money to Jerry's so went to Hugo's because them having people at one-thirty is at least predictable. And, in fact, it was very crowded at five-thirty because for the entitled of Studio City, Hugo's in McDonald's. Had a Caesar salad and pasta papa.

I thought you had gotten tired of pasta papa, or was it something different?

Page 5? Really?
I thought I would save you a post.

Six guests tonight?

Come on in, the water is fine!

Then I watched an interesting and necessary documentary about food called Fed Up - really well done and really makes you think and frankly I'm willing to attempt what they say should be attempted - as much as possible remove as much sugar from my food intake as I can, cook at home (chicken breasts, halibut - know how to do those), eat fruit and vegetables and completely stay away from processed foods. I'll do eggs, try to not eat so damn much ketchup (sugar), and there are definitely things I like that are good to eat - like almonds and sweet potatoes. I will do this for a month and see where it gets me. This documentary posits that obesity has little to do with exercise, which I found interesting and intriguing. It's on the Flix of Net and I recommend it. I think this week the only time I really need to eat out will be the Smoke House on Thursday, and I can have prime rib and an artichoke and be just fine there.
-
We would love to welcome some new members.
-
No knowledge of any subject is needed; and in my case required.
-
But we do offer some of the finest vibes available on the internet.

That sounds like exactly the diet my doctor wants me to follow.

I meant to have a salad for dinner, but I forgot to eat it.
-
Oh well, salad for breakfast is good.
-
Oh wait, I am taking my friend out for brunch tomorrow for her birthday.
-
Too bad. I will have to have eggs and bacon hash browns and.........................
Oysters!!
-
Fried oysters on the buffet are the only reason I would drive 35 miles to Shelton to eat.
-
One thing that will be hard for me - salad dressing - lots of sugar apparently. So, if I'm at Jerry's occasionally I'll just do the chopped salad, maybe with turkey or ham and the oil and vinegar.
-
Being a celiac I have had to read labels very carefully and as a result have eliminated many bad foods. Many gluten-free foods are "whole" foods and are non GMO. Yet there are still the sugary foods that are difficult to lose, but I have cut back significantly, though not entirely.
-
Have you closed on the condo yet?
Yes. It was very easy. Now we need them to remove the furniture. We kindly gave them extra time since we hesitated after the inspection and they didn't want to remove it if we backed out.

Probably 12 to 14%. Another reason I am changing credit unions.

Jane, why are you up at 10 pm?

Oh Boy! VICTOR/VICTORIA is starting on PBS. Sure I would be up till midnight.
-
I didn't know car loans were so high.
-
Dan, how are you feeling today, or rather, tonight?
Still a bit sore in the mouth and tongue. And stiff in the upper body. I've stopped taking the oxycodone because it has created a constipation situation. I only took three tabs since Thursday afternoon, but it has a strong effect on me, so I stopped it and will deal with whatever residual pain and discomfort I'm having. My tongue and its taste buds aren't really working fully so food doesn't quite taste right.
-
Jane, why are you up at 10 pm?
I'm not. I am using my Nook. We watched Love is Strange and I am about to attempt to go to sleep.
-
May you geel much better tomorrow DR Dan!
-
PAGE 6
MeTV is showing "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" and AntennaTV is showing "Mr. Belvedere". I've always liked A & C and also Christopher Hewett. I guess I will flip back and forth.
Earlier today AntennaTV was showing "Small Wonder" a terrible 1980s sitcom about a little girl robot and her misadventures. Don't know how that one got made, watching it is a misadventure.
-
May you geel much better tomorrow DR Dan!
Thank you! I've taken 2 Dulcolax so that may help. I am not a pill taker and my body seems to be sensitive to any changes.
-
I've always been a fan of the Qatsi movies by Godfrey Reggio with scored music by Philip Glass. So, a friend recently gave me a copy of their latest, Visitors, which is different from the trilogy, but has some relation to them. I do know that I have the same reaction as I did when I first saw Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi and Naqoyasqatsi: liked them but wasn't sure what they meant until I saw them several times. That's what I think will happen with the newest.

Good evening. I spent Friday and Saturday in the Pomona area. I just flew back home.

Well, I got to Silver Platters without any trouble at all! AND I got some things that I actually want, BUT I think I also got some things that I might already have. :-\
-
I'm now at the SeaTac airport cell phone parking lot (whoever came up with this idea is a genius!) and they have free Wi-Fi! I went to my account on http://castalbums.org to check what's on my list and a few things are already "Add[ed] to my Collection" already.
-
I know that at least one is because I got a library copy and burned it, but this is a REAL copy. I hope that the others are marked as owned because I <ahem> downloaded mp3 files. If not, they were cheap enough that it's not a big deal to have an extra copy or two.
;)

I drove my friend's car (she has a CD player) and I listened to the Kritzerland release of "And the Wold Goes Round." I still love this recording!

Well, I must go now. I haven't gotten "the call" yet, I need to be ready when I do get the call...and I want to read my book on my Kindle for a bit.
Good night, all.
