Well, you've read the notes, the notes had independence, fireworks, and tidbits, and now it is time for you to post until the independent cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MAUNDER!
-
First post after BK!
-
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
-
Too Darn Hot
-
I'm back from seeing Olympia Film Society's showing of "The Shining" (Kubrick's version) at the Capitol Theater. We were in the balcony and man was it hot up there...and not in a good way.
-
I realized while watching the movie that I hadn't watched it all the way through, which isn't really surprising. ;) I'd seen a lot of it, but not all of it. It was a very different kind of movie than what is made today. The score is minimal with a lot of time without underscoring or dialogue. I can't imagine how it would be made today.
-
After seeing the movie, we went to a local bar and chatted and drank (I had a diet Coke).
-
Then, when the bar closed, I drove my friend and his girlfriend home, because I was sober and they don't have a car and it would've taken them an hour to walk home. By car, it only took ten minutes, and it really wasn't out of my way.
-
And now, it's time for me to goto sleep, but before I do...Happy

BK, with the Kritzerland show you're doing tomorrow, is there potential that if it feels right, there might be an actual show there in the way you're organizing it? For all the timing and organizational hiccups, it's at least sounding like a revue that could have popular success in theatrical venues.
-
Happy Independence Day!
-
Good morning, all.
And a Happy Independence Day!
-
Especially to vixmom, who probably needs to watch her step under the potential tyranny of British rule.
-
Good morning and Happy Independence Day to us all.

I just glanced over Andre Previn's composer credits and it's sad how little of his work I know. Or how few of his movies (as composer) I know. DEAD RINGER is automatically my number one choice, and I always wish he had written more such scores. I recently watched BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK and very much enjoyed the film...and most likely the score, but I'd have to go back and listen again. Always loved ONE, TWO, THREE where of course his main theme is Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance"...I need to see that now (it's been years) and hear what else he does with the music. Need to re-see and re-hear ELMER GANTRY, too.
-
good morning to all

Happy July 4th Holiday to all those that celebrate it

Songs, I don't know, but I know he's done a lot. When I watched the PAINT YOUR WAGON film a few months ago, I guess his added songs were fine but I don't remember them. I'm reminded he contributed to VALLEY OF THE DOLLS which I've greatly enjoyed, though it's been a long time since I've seen it. etc. etc.
-
It was supposed to be a nice day today but there is a lot of thunder and rain. The thunder is making my dog scared which is rare for him. So I took him out of hi cage and he slept with me.
-
Andre Previn.
I enjoy his most of his new songs for Paint Your Wagon and a few of his score for Coco.
I enjoy
Theme From The Valley of The Dolls
I'll Plant My Own Tree
You're Gonna Hear from Me
the song from Pepe (name I forget)
The boxing song from Always Fair Weather.
Film Score
Elmer Gantry

Can you please ask Mr. Gitt if Columbia will be releasing their new 4K Restoration of Lost Horizon that they did last year. I've looking for any information on it but have not been successful.

July 4th!!!
Thanks to all who have kept us free and safe and continue to do so.

DR JEANNE I specifically asked her about the gun. She hadn't even see it, which I do believe, because there would be no reason for her to be in the space where we were rehearsing.

Here is an 8-minute slide show about our cast in BAD SEED, if you care to watch.
It plays in the lobby before/after the show and during intermission.

HDR TCB I hope you sleep better tonight and it isn't too hot or too loud there.
-
Happy 4th!
-
I need to get to work.
-
Independence Day greetings! We had a lovely time at DN Lauren and Jimmy's last night and enjoyed the Smith Park fireworks show from their backyard. I was up past midnight and managed to sleep until almost 9 this morning - very late for me.
Today we must, must, must go to the grocery and to visit Mom. My plan is to be home for dinner and to watch the Washington and NYC celebrations on TV.
-
Thank you, all, for the nice comments on my California photos and for the expressions of relief that I don't have a blood clot. I think I have something called postphlebetic (or postthrombotic) syndrome.
-
Jrand - interesting and informative slide show.
-
Good morning, all! I slept until 9:30, with lots of bizarre dreams about working at The Drama Book Shop, several employers and colleagues no longer living, and Michael Frayn's translation of Chekhov's plays. At one point the Shop morphed into my bedroom in the house I lived in between 1950 and 1979.
-
Good news for DR Ginny!
Good news for leaving work early for DR vixmom!
-
I need to get to work.
Hey! That's my line!
-
At the IHOP with vixdad
-
I have ordered a meal which apparently has enough calories to keep a family of 6 going for a week
-
I am looking forward to it
-
Chas ( since I think you will appreciate this)
2 buttermilk pancakes, fresh blackberries, fresh peaches, granola clusters and a scoop of vanilla ice cream
-
Of course accompanied with eggs bacon sausage and homefries
-
I have a bird family nesting under the eaves on my front porch right near where the flag would be flying. So I will just have to appear unpatriotic today and not fly the flag.
I did fly it last Friday when the Supreme Court announced their decision because I was very proud to be an American at that particular moment.
-
It's here!
-
Chas ( since I think you will appreciate this)
2 buttermilk pancakes, fresh blackberries, fresh peaches, granola clusters and a scoop of vanilla ice cream
Wow! My goodness. Yum.
-
Of course accompanied with eggs bacon sausage and homefries
Now you're talkin'! :)
-
Thanks DR FJL.
-
I've been listening to Dearest Enemy, although the main historical events in it took place on September 15, 1776, not July 4.
-
Someday DR vixmom and I will take a meal together at a good diner or an IHOP or some such, and the local papers will send photographers to cover the event. And the spread.
-
Dearest Enemy goes into the player in a couple of hours.
-
Later in the day, 1776. Don't know if THE MUSIC MAN will make it onto the screen today. And I don't have YANKEE DOODLE DANDY.
-
It's gone....but the endless pot o' coffee goes on and on and on and on
-
It's gone....but the endless pot o' coffee goes on and on and on and on
Endless? Remember, DR vixmom, all good things must end in time. But until then, eat, drink and be merry!
-
You'll meet up with that coffee again later.
-
Happy 4th of July, all.
-
Chas ( since I think you will appreciate this)
2 buttermilk pancakes, fresh blackberries, fresh peaches, granola clusters and a scoop of vanilla ice cream
I'll settle for leftovers.

TOD:
Love the entire score for the Good Companions
Always Mademoiselle, Let's Go Home and Coco from Coco
-
It's a day for being lazy and watching movies. Watched the new Blu and Ray of "The Lady from Shanghai" and have started "Ballet 422," which is kind of a documentary version of Robert Altman's kinda documentary-like "The Company."
-
Anybody doing anything fun for the 4th?
-
Happy 4th of July!

Perhaps one weekend when Ben and Anthony are on Long Island Maybe taken a show up at northport

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!
-
Ginny so glad you got good news yesterday
-
Yesterday I went to the lake to see my family. Everyone has been telling my mom she has too much stuff in her screened in porch but no one has helped her with it. So she and I pulled everything out, I scrubbed the floor and helped her rearrange. We only had to take one chair out of the room and haul a couple area rugs to the garage. Ta Da.
-
Then I had a boat ride with DR Samantha and her soon to be DH Don.
-
Then Mom and I shopped for DGN Gabe
-
Then we had a get together at Sam and Don's house. It was really good to see everyone I left way before the fireworks and came home
-
I overdid it a bit yesterday, but mom really needed the help and it was a good way to get them to quit bugging her about the mess in that room
-
I was a bit dizzy before I left, but I am really glad I came home. It was good to sleep in my own bed.
-
I checked my insurance online today. The bad news is it cost $10, 745.69 for my rabies shots. The good news is it looks like insurance just might pay all of it
-
I should damn well hope so.
-
Well, I have a high deductible, so I wasn't sure if that would apply. I'll have to pay it on the surgery so I'll pay one way or another, but it makes me feel better knowing they covered that much already
-
And now I'm on to Show Boat. i am so proud to be a part of this fantastic recording.
-
And now I'm on to Show Boat. i am so proud to be a part of this fantastic recording.
Love that recording. I'm listening to a Blue Pear release of "A Joyful Noise." Sound isn't great, but Karen Morrow is, as always.
-
Talked to Dad this morning. It seems as if Mom wants to go back to Germany once more. The trip would be too stressful for him, so he, in a roundabout way, asked if I would go with her.
Glad to. If I can build up enough vacation time.

Absolutely - I feel that with a lot of our shows and, in fact, did the Lost and Unsung revue after we did those two shows at Kritzerland, same with Pure Imagination, which was born out of our Kritzerland show. Our shows, with my patter, run about eighty minutes so it's not like we'd have to do a lot. Where the fun would be is getting to actually stage stuff.
-
The actual underscore in Valley of the Dolls is John Williams - but Previn and then-wife Dory are indeed credited with the songs.
-
I'm up - eight hours - could have slept more but the little noisy parade they do down my street every year happened a little earlier this year. So, I stayed in bed, hoping to fall back asleep, but my idiot neighbors came out with their chums and were loud. That kept up for over an hour and now that I finally got up - they're gone.
-
Not feeling too well today. It's Saturday In the Park a free concert. Aretha Franklin is the headliner. I'm just not up for the crowds today. So, guess I'll miss it this year
-
Feel better, Cilla!
-
Feel better vibes, Cillaliz.
-
Nice day today
-
Up from a nap. This has been a wonderfully lazy day so far.
-
Party is tonight. I made a watermelon-cherry-pistachio salad.
-
Thanks guys.
-
I went to the grocery store this morning. They had $1 cantaloupe and 2.49 seedless watermelons. So I got one of each.
Yum

As I was going to the store, the parking lot was jammed. So, I was waiting for someone who was about to back out. This guy suddenly started backing right into me. I started honking at him and he didn't stop, luckily the car in front of me moved and I was able to get out of his way. I was REALLY mad. I got out and yelled at him to watch where he was driving. He said "Why didn't you wait for me" He wasn't even in the car when I started waiting for the other car. Seriously this guy was very close to hitting me. I decided right then and there I was going home for the day

Thanks. I'm going to try to rally and go to the baseball game. Not sure I'll stay for fireworks, but the games always cheer me up
-
I am very glad that I spent yesterday with the family. I wouldn't have wanted to today

Page 4 on the 4th!

You should've handed him a business card and said next time you would wait, and that you'd see him in court!
He doesn't need to know that you're not that kind of lawyer, but it certainly would make him think about how he drives.
;)

It's one of my all-time favorites!

I was hoping to be able to stay home all day, but my parents were given a free air conditioner. I said that I would go over to help put it in my dad's library (my old bedroom). I don't think that they were given instructions though, so I hope that I can find some on-line. I also hope that it's easy to install. I've never done this before. Wish me luck!
-
Well, I must be off. Hope everyone is having a happy and safe and sane 4th of July!
Until later!

Both the LP and CD sets grace their respective shelves here.

Did a two and a half mile jog and will now relax until party time. Noisy, stupid neighbors have apparently, after insuring that no one could ever go back to sleep, have left the premises. These people.
-
Just finishing up Nunsensations! The Nunsense Vegas Revue. A little better than some of the other sequels, but nowhere near the fun of the original. And they're all in the same format, same type of song in each slot. Meh. I could work during it and not miss a thing.
-
Be careful, Folks!
-
Richard and I spent about an hour with Mom, then did a major grocery shopping. We've had our holiday dinner of fried chicken and potato salad (both store-bought) and now we're looking forward to the patriotic concerts on TV. Party animals, that's us!
-
Vixdad and I went to see the new Terminator movie. I had "re admission " tickets I had been given on a previous visit but they didn't cover the IMAX 3D so we had to pay an additional $13
-
It was a special effects tour de force
-
I am watching Japanese monster movies on El Rey....it is a special effects nightmare.....
-
Ghidrah is on now, I am waiting for the Peanuts to appear. Some fireworks are already happening....later I may sit on the front porch and watch the town fireworks over the treetops....they are about a mile away....and we can always see the ones the fly HIGH.
-
About midway through the movie there was this pound pounding noise which we thought kind of odd and distracting as it continued through the non action scenes. And then throughout the credits And then the movie ended completely and the pounding continued.
-
So we decided to report it to the manager as something was obviously wrong with the sound system
-
She thanked us for reporting it and gave us 2 passes good for a 3D IMAX movie in the future. We told her it wasn,t necessary we just wanted to alert them but she said it gave them an opportunity to fix it and save them from giving out s whole theatre full of passes in the future
-
Then we came home and had hot dogs and beans and coleslaw and potato salad
-
Vixdad insists on putting catsup on his hotdogs when everyone knows that they must be eaten with Gulden's brown mustard and sauerkraut
-
I eat my hot dogs with French's mustard and a slice of Kraft American cheese.
-
The first few performers on PBS' Capital Fourth almost drove us away, but we stuck with it and it eventually settled into our demographic.
-

I prefer ketchup, relish, and chopped onions on my hotdogs. :)
-
I'm back from installing a portable, roll-away air conditioner in my dad's library. It took a little bit of figuring out, but I was actually able to find the manual on-line. Anyway, it all works and hopefully will work for a long time.
-
My mom made tacos and I brought home all the leftovers. Good stuff!
-
After the PBS show ended, we switched to NBC for the fireworks from NYC. Spectacular!
-
I'm up in my bedroom, posting on my tablet.
-
I moved my downstairs DVR upstairs so that I can watch, and more impotantly delete, what's on that DVR.
-
That DVR is 93% filled! I need to get rid of some of the programs on it.
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
The problem is that the two DVRs that I have use the same frequency for both remotes, so I need to cover the front of the DVR that I don't want to watch.
-
Ginny, was it Barry Manilow or Bradley Whitford that almost drove you away? ;)
-
Just had an explosion that sounded like the entire city of Tacoma had blown up.
-
I didn't look, so maybe it did.
-
Vixmom, it sounds like you had a great day.
-
I took a three hour nap today, because I can! When I woke up, I thought it was six a.m.
-
Just had an explosion that sounded like the entire city of Tacoma had blown up.
I've only heard a couple of smallish explosions...so far.
-
I wish I had made some potato salad for myself. I ended up buying some from the Metropolitan Market. It was pricey and edible, but not very good.
-
Cilla, are you back from the ball game?
-
Yes, we won!! The 30th win of the season. I didn't stay for the fireworks because Boo gets very upset by them and I wanted to be home before it started sounding like a war zone. They are illegal here but legal across the border in South Dakota, so they don't enforce the law here and they go off for days and days
-
I drank 4 bottles of water at the game. I'm beginning to wonder if I wasn't a little dehydrated today and that was part of the reason I wasn't feeling well
-

Boo hasn't sat on my lap for weeks....it's the only place she wants t sit tonight

Are they going to the Red Wind?
-
Back from the partay - I was only going to stay an hour but stayed three - it was fun. But I had food that virtually had no calories at all - some corn (no butter or anything), some green beans, and some fruit. So, I really must eat something - I have some stuff here, but I may just go to Jerry's and see if they're open and, if so, have a turkey sandwich.
-
I have decided not to go watch the fireworks tonight. That would mean traveling all the way thru the living room and out onto the balcony.
-
Ginny, was it Barry Manilow or Bradley Whitford that almost drove you away? ;)
Yes.
-
I was just watching the fireworks from Saturday in the Park out my front window. Aretha must have either started late or stayed on longer than expected or both. It should get quieter now, I think all the official displays are over. I loved fireworks until I moved here. There are just far too man of them. Every event seems to have fireworks.
-
This year there was a lot of press about how fireworks effect veterans with PTSD. Don't think that will make much difference.
-
Fireworks have been illegal here since my dad was a boy. But you couldn't tell from this neighborhood...it looks like the skies over Disney after the parade
-
I have been enjoying The Music Man
-
How is it possible that the Vixte and Vixdad have never seen this?
-
How is it possible that the Vixte and Vixdad have never seen this?
I played Tommy in that show.............. but not recently.
-
The stupidest thing the Arizona legislature ever did was make fireworks legal here. The desert. In July. Stupid.
Then when the cities all made them illegal to set off, the Arizona legislature passed a law that the cities couldn't make it illegal to set them off. Stupid. It is the cities that have to pay the fire departments when those things set things on fire.
-
I agree stupid. There was a bill to make them legal in Iowa. Glad it didn't pass
-
Be careful, Folks!
At my friends' house, the fireworks were thick and heavy and lasted two hours. At one point we saw the cat fly into the backyard as if a firework had been lit under her.
-
I'll admit the show was way too loud, but then it was being set off 10 feet in front of us. I did get some ash in my hair, which I didn't care for, either.
It sort of felt like being in an IMAX theater with fireworks going off to the left, several spots in front, my friends' fireworks in center, and more to the right.
-

Yup, that's the one. They only live about 10 minutes away.

Us, too! Now it's time to sleep - 'night!
-
Going to try to get some sleep. Fireworks are still non stop. Getting farther away though, so that's good
-
Uh oh...there's an emergency vehicle driving away from the fire station (which is right across the street from the entrance to my condo complex).

Fortunately, no...but it certainly can feel like it.
