Well, you've read the notes, the notes droned, and now it is time for you to post until the droning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MANSUETUDE!
-
good morning to all
-
JohnG - continued medical vibes from NYC!!!
-
Jeanne, sorry to hear what's going on with your card.
-
BK, hope your YouTube problems clear up.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Got started a little early, paying a couple of ugly bills.
-
Followed by some excellent videos to get the day going a little more properly!
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Up early to help Richard get our kitchen and dining room ready for his clergy study group to meet here at noon. I'll clear out before they arrive because I have a couple of stops to make on my way to the grantwriters' holiday luncheon.

TOD;
RUN OF THE ARROW
ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA
-
Good morning, all!
-
I woke up this morning thinking it was Sunday, so God knows what this misinformation will do to my day.
-
I have a lot of things to do here today: laundry, tidting, some Guys & Dolls work on this new piano-conductor score, and some work on The New Yorkers. There will be an orchestra reading in mid-January to see where and how things stand on The New Yorkers. Rob's goal is to have 12 charts ready by then. I've now finished four utilities, three numbers, and I'm on my fourth.
-
I'm glad BK posted about A Chorus Line on SACD because I ended up not having a chance to hear more than the first track yesterday evening. And how weird it is, with Zack's "Sing out, Louise!" entrance from the rear of the hall. Will listen to the rest today.
It's sad, but given this example, I suspect that MOST of the material re-released and newly recorded for multi-channel SACD will be found to be as gimmicky and "because we can" as the wacky "space age bachelor pad" stereo recordings from people like Dick Schory and Enoch Light in the late fifties and early sixties, and the quadraphonic recordings of the seventies in which the listener is positioned in the middle of a symphony orchestra arranged in a circle or some such.
-
DR Elmore, it sounds like Guys and Dolls has been quite the project. I would love to see something of it sometime. Is it a complete cleanup and Finale-izing of the materials? Is the P/C score getting reworked, or just typeset (or whatever the correct word would be these days)?

I should be ready to call your friend at MTI later this week with my Merrily questions.
-
The son of a friend from grade school through high school sings wth the Oakland East Bay Gay Men's Chorus. my friend sent me a copy of their dec. 2016 holiday concert, and they performed my arrangement of "The Dreidel Song," which I wrote earlier this year. I won't know how many performances it received until I see my royalty statement for 2016, but this may be the premiere performance. I hope it went well.

I should be ready to call your friend at MTI later this week with my Merrily questions.
Remind him who you are. It seems years ago since I told him you might call him.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Waiting for a Fred Pryor seminar to start.
Hoping for some time to watch the videos.

I hope it went well and that you receive a good royalty check.

Suddenly I am being asked if I want to RENT movies ONDemand from TCM.....it's always been a free service.
I called and talked to someone in India who has NO IDEA what's going on.....they are supposed to call me back....sometime....

No good deed goes unpunished. I decided to wash my kitchen rug, which is about 8x10. It's now stuck in an unbalanced spin cycle, I cannot unlock the door, and I cannot get it to finish its wash. So, I called the manufacturer and they told me to unplug the machine for 5 minutes. We'll see if that helps.
-
Oy!!
-
TOD:
The Red Balloon
King of Comedy
Pink Panther
-
Two!
-
I'm sure I'll remember more soundtracks as the day goes by.
-
Back to Chorus Line for a moment:
It's just weird. There are some sections I found it had "settled in" for me and I wasn't too distracted by anything, and others in which people's or instruments' locations had moved or gotten bigger/smaller for no discernible reason. But even when things seemed fairly normal, I could walk into the next room and still hear this new (?) reverb-y layer.
My system is 7.1 so the rear speakers are literally in the corners of the room, and Zack is all the way back there -- but not really sounding distant (as Mama Rose would), so, kind of a mismatch. On the original, he "crosses" left to right and back again, and that's completely gone. BK has already referred to some of this, but it's just headshakingly bizarre.
BK also reminds us of Follies. Something this SACD has the power to do is remind us that both great and silly things are possible with remixing. There are so many more recordings that could be hugely improved, whether in stereo or multi-, that it's just sad this can't be moved along.
-
DR elmore. Have you retrieved your rug from the machine?

~~~Ditto and Ditto!!~~~
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of glorious sleep. Groggy, but I'll jog at some point and get the guck out.
-
Well I think TCM is fixed - except now the sound is out of synch on some of the movies ONDEMAND.
The Comcast man wanted to sell me all kinds of things, but I didn't buy it.....we shall see what happens.
-
I really don't like talking to people in India about my service.
-
Gosh, I thought most people enjoy the experience ;)
-
LOL DR JANE - I will let one of those people call for me next time!
-
DR elmore. Have you retrieved your rug from the machine?
Yes. The 5-minutes power-off worked.
-
I really don't like talking to people in India about my service.
I'm with you.
-
Larry, I know you don't about this, but too bad!
Congrats to DR ELMORE on his rug and his millstone!
;)
Thank you, DR George! This is something you and DR FJL can celebrate for me.
-
Charlotte and this damned movie "The Best Worst Thing . . ." are going to be the death of me. She takes her time getting back to me about possbile times, and now, when I go to buy tickets for tomorrow, there's no goddam 12:30 showing.
-
Oy again. :)
But, thank goodness, their website has it still continuing next week...
-
I was listening to the original cast just a while ago, which is strange after getting used to the revival cast. But I was seeing these people in my mind's eye throughout, and now I look forward to seeing that again.
-
My next week is insane, though. Perhaps a li'l weekend matinee.
I'm sitting here dancing as fast as I can! :)
-
But congrats to us on having enjoyed your 40,000 posts!!! :)
That forty grand needs a dollar sign in front of it, DR Elmore.
-
Shipoopi!
Another county heard from!
I got me a couple of nice Samuel Barber CDs today, thanks again to BK, and have just renewed my acquaintance with the beautiful Knoxville: Summer of 1915 as sung by Leontyne Price.
I first got to know this in school through Eleanor Steber who was in residence and is the one who had it commissioned. I think I still have her recording, and I'm trying to remember if we performed this with her. Maybe not, but I'll have to dig into that. It seems like I'd done more than just listen to it back then.
-
Congratulations, Elmore.
-
It's a post. And it gets us closer to page three
-
How are you feeling, Ron?
-
Let's move on.
-
Three!
-
Oy again. :)
But, thank goodness, their website has it still continuing next week...
That's all fine and good for YOU, but it's not playing anywhere around here! When is it coming out on DVD?? That's what I wanna know!
-
LOL DR JANE - I will let one of those people call for me next time!
;D
DR elmore. Have you retrieved your rug from the machine?
DR George do you have some kind of special radar that lets you know when to snap these photos ;)
Nope. I'm just logged in to HHW anytime I'm on a computer. ;D
No,. she has too many goddam commitment. I felt like telling her to go when she can and I would see it without her. She dicked around all weekend and left me hanging.
-
DR Jeanne, tonight I am beginning "A Place to Call Home."
-
Hello, everyone.
-
YouTube wasn't working any better for me than it was for BK, but I enjoyed what I did hear and see.
-
DR Jeanne, tonight I am beginning "A Place to Call Home."
I hope you like it. I had to take a break for a few nights. Lady Macbeth in season 3 was getting to be a bit much for me. No fault of the show; my patience wears thin with certain personalities.
-
John G, you're right about all the strong women. Some interesting things happen with Elizabeth Bligh in season 3. Noni Hazlehurst, who plays her, does a wonderful job, I think. Lots of dimensions to her character.
-
Thanks for all the Discover vibes and comments.
My new card came today, less than 24 hours after reporting it. To my surprise, the embossed account number was missing from the front of the card. I phoned and was told that it's no longer needed and this is the new standard. I asked about the email notification that DR Jennifer mentioned last night. I have that on my Amazon credit card, but didn't know if Discover offered it. They do, and I now have it on this card.
I must now update my account number on numerous websites.
As for the thief, I hope he/she finds himself/herself stranded someplace unpleasant!
-
I hope so, too, DR Jeanne, but I think we can be pretty sure that he/she has a ton of stolen cards as backup.
-
I had a nice surprise last night. BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES season 3 is now available on Acorn. they usually let us know in advance, but this wasn't mentioned ahead of time. It was just what I needed. NOT a good choice for our DR Vixmom, but worked fine for me.
-
That forty grand needs a dollar sign in front of it, DR Elmore.
Four zeroes preceded by a four preceded by a dollar sign
It's For oh-oh-oh-oh wonderful Mr. Moore
-
I hope so, too, DR Jeanne, but I think we can be pretty sure that he/she has a ton of stolen cards as backup.
Right. But does he/she have them with him/her?
-
TTFN.
-
I put on an Amahl and the Night Visitors I'd picked up for a buck last year and hadn't listened to yet. It was produced by John Yap, and I was sorry to find it lacking in both a satisfying recording quality and in performance (it's conducted by David Syrus), even though recorded "in the presence of Gian Carlo Menotti". But has any effort yet approached the level of the two RCA/NBC recordings? I think it ain't gonna happen.
-
I hope so, too, DR Jeanne, but I think we can be pretty sure that he/she has a ton of stolen cards as backup.
Right. But does he/she have them with him/her?
Yes. :) But it's lovely to think it could be otherwise.
-
YouTube behaved itself long enough for me to watch the videos. they were great! THIS CHRISTMAS well over very well with the audience.
-
TTFN 2.
If it happens again just get a ticket for yourself. I do hope it works out.
What am I, fish ;)
I decided not to comment on this-lol Yes, she does a wonderful job, as does the actress playing Olivia whom I agree was the big surprise in this.
-
Congrats to DR elmore on his milestone!
We have a card without the embossed numbers and it is much easier to read than the one with them. I hope you don't need the email notification but it is nice you have it.
Winter is coming! The high is expected to be 30 at the end of next week.
Nice Kritzerland videos, BK!
Sadly, true. :-\
Can some kind Angeleno, past or present, remind me of where the Old World restaurants were located?
Everyone remembers the one at Sunset Strip and Holloway, but there was at least one other, in Westwood or Beverly Hills or --? I can "almost" see one of these locations, but ... not quite ... and I can't find diddley on any of them.
There was one in Westwood, but I can't "see" it. Westwood Blvd, I think, in the Village, of course. I can "see" the one on Sunset and recall who I went there with.
what made you think of the Old World restaurants? I wish they were still around.
-
Thanks, DR Jeanne. As soon as I asked that I found an address: 216 N. Beverly Drive in the Hills of Beverly!
But I'm still thinking Westwood, too..
-
As to what made me think of it, nothing in particular. Just caught it in a chain of thought.
I decided to see if the Beverly Hills location was mentioned, and it was :)
And now, it's time for me to leave work.
Be back later.
I think what I had there as much, if not more than, anything else was the Swinger Patty.
Oy again. :)
Me, too!
I can't watch a movie with subtitles and write Christmas cards at the same time.
-
So, after half hour of the superb Le Silence de la Mer (excellent score to bring back the TOD), I put on It Happened in Brooklyn. Meh.
-
Guess it's a night for meh musicals. I now have A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court on. I won't finish it tonight, either.
-
Good night, all.
-
The rehearsal was fun but I could have used another ten minutes to work on Sami's solo, but she'll be calling in a bit to chat about the song and how to approach it and its many levels.
-
Thankfully, what should have been a nightmare ride home at six with rush hour traffic, surprisingly wasn't - it was slow but always moving and I was home in twenty-five minutes.
-
After the rehearsal, Sami's mom and I dined at Maria's kitchen - I had a tiny side Caesar salad and delicious penne with sausage and peppers - really filling but really good and my only meal o' the day.
-
I'd gotten a screener prior to leaving, for Jackie. But when I got home there were three more waiting for me and I opted to watch something called Nocturnal Animals, a very strange film but one I kind of enjoyed.
-
Page four? Really?
-
REALLY?
-
Also got another Villa-Lobos CD today, so listened to that - excellent music.
-
Now listening to some William Alwyn film music selections and waiting for Sami's call.
You got lucky.
Good evening!
We did not watch A PLACE TO CALL HOME tonight. Instead we watched part of a Michael Kitchen film, FALLING, based on the Elizabeth
Howard novel. The novel was based on her real life experience with a con man. Kitchen was giving a fine performance. I read he gets even better as the film becomes darker. I was not in the mood to watch it unravel. Does anyone know how this ends?
-
Good evening Tom.
-
I am going to read for a bit.
-
Good evening Tom.
Sorry, Jane, I was on the phone.
-
The weather people are calling for a snow "episode" on Thursday afternoon and evening.
-
It is expected to come up from the south, first hitting Olympia about noon and moving up the I-5 corridor to Tacoma and then Seattle.
-
They are saying possibly 1" to 6" by Thursday evening.
-
The only problem with that is that Thursday night is our Actor's Benefit performance of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
-
No one seems to know what will happen if we do get the snow.
-
First of all, let me say that Pacific Northwest citizens have no idea of how to drive in even 2 inches of snow.
-
So the first problem is getting the cast to the theater-safely.
-
Secondly, will an audience show up for the show in the snow?
-
It should be an interesting day and night.
-
I wonder if Jane will be getting any snow on Thursday morning.
-
Time to change computers.
-
Greetings, 6 Guests!
-
Thank you guests for keeping me from being lonely.
-
The weather people are calling for a snow "episode" on Thursday afternoon and evening.
Yikes! We start the second weekend of "The Physician In Spite of Himself" on Thursday. :-\
-
Wow! All 6 Guests took off!
-
I don't know my own power.
-
First of all, let me say that Pacific Northwest citizens have no idea of how to drive in even 2 inches of snow.
I know what you mean!
-
Thursday is our Pay-What-You-Can performance.
-
Thursday is our Pay-What-You-Can performance.
Our Pay-What-You-Can, also.
-
Thursday is our Pay-What-You-Can performance.
Our's too
Our's isn't an actor's benefit...just PWYC.
-
Well, I doubt it will be much benefit for anybody.
-
There's always hope. ;)
-
Well...
-
...since...
-
...we're so darned close, why stop now??
