Well, you've read the notes, the notes had sour grapes of wrath, and now it is time for you to post until the wrathful cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INCANDESCENT!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
The first post after Dino.
-
This you and David and two hour conversations are becoming a thing. Is there something you want to tell us, George?
-
This you and David and two hour conversations are becoming a thing. Is there something you want to tell us, George?
No...David is very straight. ::)
-
Anyway, if anyone is interested (and even if you're not), here's a picture of Margo's new dog. ;D
-
Awww. I was going to adk.
-
George I am very surprised you have never seen the musical STATE FAIR or ONE, TWO, THREE with James Cagney.
-
Pamela Tiffin is GREAT in One, Two, Three.
-
I am falling asleep
-
'night
-
George I am very surprised you have never seen the musical STATE FAIR or ONE, TWO, THREE with James Cagney.
I didn't know that James Cagney was in STATE FAIR!
;)
-
I've actually seen bits of both movies, but not enough to have made the connection that that was the actress in those movies.
-
Obviously, I also wasn't paying too much attention when I looked her up. ::)
-
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Another bad night of sleep: too many arthritic join pains.
-
DR George, Margo's dog is a cutie. Do you know its age?
-
DR Jeanne, I have no patience with these people who are getting stir-crazy about Covid-19 restrictions. Tell them to watch The Diry of Anne Frank; if two families and a single man tried could for two years in an attic without knoweing when their situation would even end, these Covid restrictions should be a piece of cake.
-
I dreamt last night that I was attending a pot luck.
Someone had brought a loaf of sliced white bread with a single slice of bacon laid across the top.
It was displayed on a lovely silver serving tray.
So there was that.
-
Speaking of Covid quarantines, New York's Ship of Fools aka Young Republicans wanted to throw a party. They could not lease a space in Manhattan so they rented a space in New Jersey, threw their shindig, and now all hell has broken loose. The DUI nincompoop Matt Gaetz was one of the attendees/ I hope they all catch it.

And on to other amusing news. Malaria Trump is supposedly writing a memoir. Twitter users suggested plenty of titles for her. My favorite suggestion was White Pride & Prejudice.
My suggestion would be Cat House to White House.
-
I just noticed that our favorite local pizza joint is offering Tater Tot pizza. Only in Minnesota, folks.
-
Anxiously awaiting a photo or two of DR ChasSmith's tree.
-
And now: a really cool bass.
-
It's so au courant and with it, man.
-
And in today's "Rudy Giuliani is still a complete fool" news:

Whew! I feel like I've accomplished a week's worth of chores just since getting up this morning.
-
Moving on...
-
...to PAGE TWO!
-
What's this? DR George shouldn't be up at this hour.
-
Considering how he's treating Santa Claus (Sydney Greenstret), it's a bit bizarre to be introducing the audio edition of my one-person play, PETER LORRE, during the Christmas season.
Blame ACX, not me. 🙂
Nevertheless, Bill Schafer does a marvelous job as Peter Lorre in the play, which can be downloaded via Amazon, iTunes and audible.com. The play is also available in paperback and Kindle editions. Performance rights are available.

LOL I've never seen that photo DR DRUXY.
-
Sunshine & temps in the thirties today.....so it is December.
-
Good morning, all.
-
LOL I've never seen that photo DR DRUXY.
I haven’t either. Very festive.
-
I’m tired. I may stay in bed.
-
I'm kind of like DR TCB re: Pamela Tiffin.
She was great in ONE, TWO, THREE......but I liked everyone in that movie......
"Put your pants on, Spartacus!"
"Both of em! Different colors!"
Despite her "acting" I did like her in STATE FAIR......
-
And on to other amusing news. Malaria Trump is supposedly writing a memoir. Twitter users suggested plenty of titles for her. My favorite suggestion was White Pride & Prejudice.
My suggestion would be Cat House to White House.
I was thinking: Ho, Ho, Ho! This Ho Still Hates F$!king Christmas.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET. About 50 minutes. I give it a 5.5-6 out of 10.....technically it's fair.
Best parts are the Ghost of Marley and the scary ghost at the end.... Scrooge does a nice job.....
It is what it is.....
-
Since it’s set st the Alamo and because of Fred’s connection, Viva Max must not be overlooked in Pamela Tiffin’s resume. Very funny.

'Tis the Saturday that feels like a Sunday.
The story of my life.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.
-
Re Mr. Giuliani and his passing of gaseous elements - it's nothing at all compared to the hired "witness" who was, apparently, drunk, and batty and who has a criminal record. Why were they not held in contempt - not that they were in court, but it was some kind of official thing.
-
Thinking about ordering pasta papa, which I could eat in the car. Eggs benedict, not so much.
-
DR Singdaw that really is a cool bass.
-
Awww. I was going to adk.
I was falling asleep when I typed that ;D I meant to say "ask" for a photo.

Good afternoon!

-
Good afternoon.

At the church zoom gathering last week, we were all asked to make snowflakes for tomorrow's gathering.
-
TOD: I like to make stuffed shells. Mostly because I can make them different for each of the picky eaters.

I have a dumb question.
Do choreographers have a way of writing down dances?
-
I have a dumb question.
Do choreographers have a way of writing down dances?
DR Laura - yes, there is traditional way with signs and shapes, etc... but most good choreographers will write down what they are doing in a way they can understand or simplify for others to understand as well. Then, there are choreographers that don't write anything down, and that can be very troublesome at times!!!!
-
Good Morning! Here before noon PST! Putting things away in the apartment, still looking for that pair of pliers so I can put the table together.... not happening. I am listening to Sandy Bainum's Christmas Album, which I put up there with the greats, as I put things away. My goal is to get this place in some sort of order by tomorrow. It's coming together slowly.
-
Back from pasta papa in the car, which was fine, picking up yesterday's packages today (two, not one), and now relaxing until it's time to leave for the theater.

Yes, DR Laura, and its called Labanotation.

I make a good bolognese sauce which I use with spaghetti, macaroni, and other forms of pasta.

Bravo, DR Matthew!

I knew that I was getting a large Amazon Pantry delivery today, so when I saw online that it had been delivered, I got my walker and headed for the elevator. At the elevator, I noticed a large Amazon Pantry carton sitting outside my neighbor's door, apartment 3D. I went over to check it, and it was my carton! I have no idea who brought it up to three or why it was left at the wrong door.
-
DR John G. - have saved those links for later.
-
Good news, DR Jrand70 - looking forward to partaking at some point soon.
DR vixmom will be watching it in stereophonic sound, apparently. ;D
-
I have seen a lot of interesting systems for dance notation. The one DR elmore3003 mentioned was the original standard, I believe.
-
TOD: Cheese Lasagna
You got any on you? I could use some.
-
I love Jane Brody's vegetarian lasagna recipe.
-
Actually, I'm eating an asparagus cream soup with smoked salmon from my new soup cookbook. Quite delicious.
-
The first time I ever made it, though, a bit of an error. She reference a separate recipe for a spice mixture, which I made and dumped in.
I learned that you are only supposed to use a portion of the spice mixture. The result was so spicy as to be inedible. But it IS a good recipe.

Four!

Hey, lookie - PAGE 4!
-
Is there an echo in here?
-
Our church zoom Christmas party is less than an hour away. My "No Room in the Gingerbread Inn" setup is ready. I think I'm going to have another bowl of soup.
-
Elmore, I'm told your package was delivered today, not tomorrow.
-
Thank you, Matthew and Elmore. I'm watching 42nd Street and wondering what that would look like.
-
That opening number must be a book.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings!
The good news: 2020’s first batch of caramel corn is about to come out of the oven and it smells delicious :D
The bad news: our microwave died >:(
-
Here’s what I’m NOT doing today: watching Michigan football. Their game was cancelled due to COVID-19.
-
I'm sorry, Ginny.
-
Gratuitous post No. 101!
-
My phone calendar just dinged a reminder. I was supposed to see Oklahoma! today.
-
Those reminders of events we are missing are sad.
-
DR Ginny double sad. I hope replacing the microwave isn't difficult.
-
We should be taking our 4th trip to Chicago this month.
-
We have to attend an online charity event tonight. Because an in-law is a co-sponsor. Frankly, I am not enthused about having to shave, shower, and dress up. But duty calls. It could be worse: I avoid in-person events like this like the plague.
-
This does not sound like fun. I hope it doesn't last too long, and you enjoy it more than you expected.
-
We should be taking our 4th trip to Chicago this month.
So sorry, DR Jane. Earlier this week our 99.9% surety of not going for Christmas became 100%.
-
Elmore, I'm told your package was delivered today, not tomorrow.
Something arrived from Amazon that I could not remember ordering although I wanted it, so I suspect you are culprit. Mephisto?
-
DR Laura, not all choreography is notated. One of the reasons Jerome Robbins assembled as many dancers from his shows on Jerome Robbins Broadway was to see if they could help him restage things. I don't think Agnes deMille's dances for Oklahoma! or Carousel were originally notated. The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization later filmed them, and I think she relied on several dancers she trusted like Gemze de Lappe to recreate them. I think Randy Skinner is the recreator of 42nd Street.
-
We should be taking our 4th trip to Chicago this month.
So sorry, DR Jane. Earlier this week our 99.9% surety of not going for Christmas became 100%.
I am very glad you made this decision. We want to be around later to watch our babies grow up.
-
I had takeout Chinese last night, so tonight's dinner is the leftover shrimp with garlic sauce.

Satan from Santa. You got it.

I took a class or two in Labanotation.....but then I kind of invented my own version.
Now I use what I call Easy Sheets......I teach the dance in sections.....teach Section One......teach Section Two.....then go back to Section One to start.... By they time we reach the end of the dance, we have done Section One Five or Six times.....
Then I put the Easy Sheet up on the Private Facebook page I make for the production, along with a video. It is a nice way to get it done.
-
It also has a constantly updated playlist with record labels and catalog numbers.
-
That sounds like a great method, DR Jrand70.
-
And LABANOTATION has taken us to FIVE.
-
Congrats DR JOHN G - Newspapers.com has a six month subscription special for $54 or so......
-
I spelled it incorrectly.......I think.....oh well.
-
Hello, everyone.

Tell them to watch The Diry of Anne Frank; if two families and a single man tried could for two years in an attic without knoweing when their situation would even end, these Covid restrictions should be a piece of cake.
Good point. I understand the frustration of not being able to get out more, but most of these people do not have a situation like DRs Jane or Ginny. In most cases they just don't want to deviate from what they're used to. I see little sense of sacrifice for the common good.

Well, someone is writing her memoir. Of course it'll get published--there's a market for it. And the Trumps need the money.

Watching the opening of Alvin Ailey's new season, which is entirely online. Revelations is such an engaging piece. Seeing it reimagined for the covid era is different. Still effective, but not as powerful as watching it live.

I know a lot of people who still go on vacation. Most of my friends see their grandchildren if they are local but won't fly to see them. At this point even if Bryan was local we would likely stay away from him.

Yes, DR Laura, and its called Labanotation.
https://www.britannica.com/art/labanotation
I see that several of you have answered DR Laura's question.
Now, my question: I took a Movement for the Stage class at UCLA in the late 1960s from a female Dr Laban, who I thought was the creator of Labanotation. Rudolf Laban's wife, perhaps? The class was all about movement, not notation.
In my experience, most choreographers do not use any system of notation. It's all based on memory.

Bruce did you see that David L. Lander died yesterday? :(

I used to be a big pasta fan. Several years ago I felt I had to give it up due to my allergies (wheat, tomato). Then Covid hit and I needed more dishes that were quick and easy to prepare at home. I got into gluten-free pasta in a big way and was pleasantly surprised. All of the GF pasta I've tried has been good. A couple of them are a little heavy, but still not bad. I use a minimum of tomato sauce. I'd like to find one or two alternate sauces. I've tried a couple things, but they weren't keepers. I'll keep looking.
-
I like to make chicken and noodles.......and some days spaghetti.
My favorite pasta dishes are the ones I order at restaurants and would never attempt at home.....
-
I've been watching THE MARVELOUS MRS MAISEL. I was lukewarm to it at first and I have to say that the numerous historical inaccuracies take me right out of the story, but parts of it are quite good. I'll continue with it this evening.
-
My favorite pasta dishes are the ones I order at restaurants and would never attempt at home.....
Yes, some things just aren't worth making at home.

For Christmas Eve this year, I plan on making Ina Garten's shrimp scampi recipe tossed with linguine. It's a relatively easy-looking recipe and yet, it just looks so good. I can't have a lot of pasta because of my diabetes, but I do love it. Maybe if I keep it to a minimum ...
-
I enjoyed your show, JRand.
-
That's great, John G.!
-
Thank you DR LAURA....it is a great story.....even told via ZOOM.
We had from 82-95 folks watching which was nice.

I like the Gingerbread Inn......

We make an eggplant rollatini recipe. The filling inside the rolled eggplant is angel hair pasta with pesto sauce.
-
I really don't cook pasta very often and we rarely eat it anymore unless we are traveling.
-
I made my own spaghetti sauce. In Pennsylvania I used tomatoes from the garden.
-
I occasionally made Fettucine Alfredo.

Pasta Siciliano, a recipe from an Italian restaurant in Michigan which also made the eggplant rollatini. Short version....It is sautéed onions, raisons, pine nuts, tossed into bow tied pasta and cooked in a creamy tomato spaghetti sauce.
-

Hi DR Jan. It is very nice to see you.
-
Jan your avatar is beautiful.
-
thanks for your kind words.
-
I remembered you the second I saw you.
-
JRand, I really enjoyed the production, right up to the Carol of the Bells at the end. You know, having some excellent singers is certainly a help, but there were no barnyard animals joining in. And that is a drawback.
-
In addition to your joyous Fezziwig, I liked the bubbly Ghost of Christmas Present and I found the Belle to be very touching in the way she stands up to Scrooge.
The script could have been better. And I'll refer you to the 1939 radio version I listened to last night as an example of an under-one-hour version that wasn't just a tour of highlights from the story. Lionel Barrymore was Scrooge and Orson Welles the narrator. Of course, your Scrooge wasn't a Barrymore. But I lay more blame on the shorthand of the storyteller.
-

Great photo, and he does look like Peter Lorre.
It IS Peter Lorre!

Listening to two Eduard Kunneke operettas - I love this guy's orchestral music, which is fantastic. The first, Lady Hamilton, is impossible to judge because the quality of the radio broadcast is so poor and irritating - this is obviously some gray area label in the UK. As an extra, they include a short operetta which, despite the even worse quality, is better presented - it's called Traumland and is completely delightful and happily that one's available on a professionally recorded CD coupled with another operetta by someone else, so will be looking forward to that. My favorite piece by this guy is called Tänzerische Suite - find it on YouTube - it's highly addictive. He also wrote popular songs of Germany back in the day, of which one of my faves is called Sex Appeal.
-
That's on this horrid two-CD operetta set with a few other PD (in EU) things.
-
DR Jane was right - the benefit was tolerable online, and it was a stream, not a Zoom, so we needn't have dressed up.
-
It was to raise money for JFCS - Jewish Family and Children's Services. A worthy cause.
-
Darn I forgot to watch...is it still available on streaming?

Angel hair pasta with Alfredo sauce, some peas, mushrooms and some small pieces of ham or bacon

In a word: yes. Thankfully.

the link still works Jack!

Congratulations on your well deserved win, John

Just watched the first two videos on Alvin Ailey. All I want to do is dance. And they had some socially distanced pieces that you don't need a partner for. Plus, they have classes online, including zumba for people like me who need to start moving again.
-
I need to go do some dishes.
-
And stop a bird from screaming in my ear, even though he's half a house away.

But first ...

Seven!

Finished with my viewing.

With my viewing I'm finished.

Great photo, and he does look like Peter Lorre.
It IS Peter Lorre!
I thought is was an actor who was a perfect double for Lorre ;D

I am laughing about having dressed up for nothing but glad it was tolerable. Maybe beind dressed up put you more in the mood ;)

Yes, that is a very worthy cause.

How is your dance partner's husband doing?

What's this? DR George shouldn't be up at this hour.
I don't know what you were talking about. ::)
;)

Hi, Jane.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET. About 50 minutes. I give it a 5.5-6 out of 10.....technically it's fair.
Best parts are the Ghost of Marley and the scary ghost at the end.... Scrooge does a nice job.....
It is what it is.....
Thanks for the link, Jrand!

I tried putting a dinosaur in my gingerbread house, but this happened...

That's great, Singdaw! :))

And now: a really cool bass.

I almost forgot this one! This is really "cool"! ;D

These are great...sort of. ;)

But about the first one, why is it so difficult to remember that only FEMALE cows have udders?? :o
-
I've been watching Scrooge this morning, because, well, I never miss an Alec Guinness musical.
That's as good a reason as any!
-
Topic of the Day: I haven't made it in a while, but I make a pretty good lasagna. I take any recipe from either the box of noodles or the container of ricotta cheese and double everything except the noodles. :) Delish!
-
Today, I went to my sister's, and my mom, my sister and her daughter all played Scrabble. Actually, we played Super Scrabble that has the extra large board.
-
My mom who only had a grade school education in Germany (and went to nursing school) won...again! She usually beats EVERYBODY...but not always...but mostly.
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!

Hi, Jane.
Hi George. I was "napping".
-
Saturday afternoon greetings!
The good news: 2020’s first batch of caramel corn is about to come out of the oven and it smells delicious :D
The bad news: our microwave died >:(
Rest in Pieces Peace, Ginny's microwave oven.
;)

Hi, Jane.
Hi George. I was "napping".
You do what'cha gotta do!
-
We have to attend an online charity event tonight. Because an in-law is a co-sponsor. Frankly, I am not enthused about having to shave, shower, and dress up. But duty calls. It could be worse: I avoid in-person events like this like the plague.
No pun intended?? :D
-
We had our church zoom party. I didn't realize there was a prize for the gingerbread houses. I won a $50 Visa gift card. Nice.
Congrats, John!
