Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lazy and loafing, and now it is time for you to post until the lazy and loafing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BADINAGE!
-
If there's badinage, does that mean there's goodinage?
-
Just asking.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Today is going to be a day. My sister wants me to come over and help put up Christmas lights on her front porch (she already put lights on her tree), then I'm ushering for a local production of a play called Until the Flood. I don't know what it's about, but I'll find out soon enough.
-
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a very restless night of sleep. My legs were bothering me all day yesterday, and this morning they're even worse. I'm lucky the cats are all well.
-
I have no idea what my plans are for today. I must deal with Access-a-Ride for tomorrow's and Tuesday's doctor appointments. After that, I don't know.
-
DR JohnG, Foxy Sondheim died in March 1992, I think. Mary Rodgers supposedly sent Steve a note opr telegram with two words: I'm jealous.
Dorothy Rodgers died in August 1992.
-
This morning I'm listening to Mozart's Great Mass in C. I didn't think. I should be listening to a requiem for Steve.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Good morning, DR slingshot! I've been contemplating Sunday morning's stillness. I guess a lot of New Yorkers are still away from the long weekend.
-
BK, thanks for the nice comments about the two Sondheim songs.
-
Loved those posts, too.
-
New York City stillness. Hmmmm.....
-
Good morning, all.
-
Weird work dreams.
-
I need to let it go.
-
As Adela Dazeem would sing.
-
Waiting for Church to start.
-
Such great news from DR JANE!
-
I loved all of the photos from yesterday.
-
Continued vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
DR freddie that is a photo of me at age 22 holding my baby sister, Molly.
-
Not sure if anything is happening today.
And that's okay.
-
Happy Sunday after Thanksgiving to one and all. There's a new Broadway Radio Show posted...this week, author Mark Robinson joins me to chat about Fabulous Flops of the 1970s -- his picks for the 12 most interesting musical misfires of that crazy decade. Check it out!

Good morning, all.
-
Exhausted last night, which was a very weird performance with weird things happening with lights and sound, but I had the most solid sleep I've had in the last few weeks. The housemates were away doing something in Mystic, CT, and Mikey let me sleep in generously. What a mensch. I didn't even wake till 8 am, and I laid there basking in restfulness for almost an hour.
-
And thanks to some angry gods or a retro Uranus or something, we got a small amount of snow early this morning. Thankfully, it's mostly visible on areas of grass and trees, and nary a sidewalk or driveway. Thankfully.
-
Best vibes for DR Elmore's ride scheduling proceeding as intended.
-
I remember no dreams from last night*, and I believe yesterday's didn't even come through.
(* yet -- because you never know what will pop up while you're doing the dishes or something)
-
BK posted two beautiful Sondheim songs, beautifully orchestrated by DR Elmore. Wonderful stuff.
I need to put a few of these CDs into the car, along with some Trotter ones, for my 30-minute commutes to and from the show.
-
I'm also planning a little Sondheim Fest for the coming couple of weeks, consisting of watching the filmed productions of Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park, Into the Woods (with an apologetic tip o' the hat to DR Elmore), and Passion -- which, shamefully, I have never even watched. I only have the latter on laserdisc, in fact; has it been issued on DVD? [EDIT: Yes, it was released by Image Entertainment.] These will be followed by a couple of the televised concerts, and then perhaps a couple of the revivals. We shall see.
-
DR freddie that is a photo of me at age 22 holding my baby sister, Molly.
You can really see the caring in that photo.
(If the caring is not real, never lose that photographer's phone number. My grandma Fannie had said when she found a great hairdresser, if her hairdresser ever moved away, she'd have to move with her.)
-
LOL......I don't think it's the photographer.....
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! I am back from my college football marathon in which the Ohio team I was rooting FOR won (Cincinnati) and the one I was rooting AGAINST (Ohio State) lost to Michigan, 42-27. It was the sweetest Michigan victory over OSU since 1969, my sophomore year.
-
Sweet victory!
-
I missed a few things here at HHW:
DR Jane’s good medical report,
DR Vixmom’s horrifying Thanksgiving story,
DR RonPulliam’s return, and
so many moving tributes to Stephen Sondheim.
Thank you for letting me lurk.

I gave the new-ish Anyone Can Whistle recording another try this morning, but I just found it inert and listless - especially the dialogue and narration.
They just drag the energy down.
-
It's quite cool here today, but sunny. I'll take it!
-
A friend of mine posted this observation:
Today, Jews and Christians begin their rituals of light - Hanukkah and Advent - with Kwanzaa joining in on December 6th. All share the practice of lighting growing numbers of candles to symbolize light overcoming darkness, no matter what its form. May we joyously embrace and reflect this light throughout this season and beyond.
Wishing the peace and joy of the season to all who celebrate, in whatever form.

DR Freddie my calendar says the plan was to eat at Matts' Rotisserie & Oyster Lounge in the Redmond Town Center.
-
Fred, I am sorry the video happened but glad you have it to see your father.
-
John I have not read Hell of a Book. I am not sure I want to, still I put a hold on it at the library.

Thank you DR TCB.

I’m about a third in, and it’s funny. Really funny. And I always welcome that.

Nice. It is also a reminder of why people say a general Happy Holidays. I don't understand why people think the expression is an effort to take Christmas from them.

I didn't expect funny. I will leave the hold in place. It will be awhile before it is available.

Speaking of funny.

I have been reading books to help me vote in the Goodreads Best Books of 2021. Hell of a Book was not nominated.

Waiting to usher for Elf. Much smaller theater. Should be a little easier than the zoo that was the River Parade.

Three!

It’s relatively recent. Don’t know how many people have read it yet. Winning the National Book Award will change that.

Which is why I put a hold on it before knowing if I want to read it. I am 26 out of 5 copies.

I think this is a totally local production. The elves are being played by children.

Well, I just got the Pfizer booster.
-
Everywhere I looked, the Moderna was by appointment, and here at the local Safeway, the Pfizer was available as a walk-in, so I decided to get it over with.
-
I'd heard that the efficacy between the two are comparable, so I went with what was available. :)
-

It makes sense to get what is available.
Now get that second Shingrix :)

I know, right?? When I got the first shot, I was told that there was a shortage of doses and that Kaiser would let me know when I could get the second dose, but I haven't heard anything from them!
-
I'm up, I'm up - eleven hours of straight-through needed sleep. Groggy, but happy to have gotten that much sleep, but of course most of the day is now gone. Must go pick up yesterday's packages.
-
I'm due for a checkup, so I'll ask then.
-
And now, it's been 10 minutes since I got the shot and I feel fine, so I'm off to my sister's, then I'll usher downtown.

It might take 24-48 hours for a reaction, DR George - if you have one at all.

I think it is about time to call them and let them go. You really have gone too long between shots.

Do you have an appointment for the check-up?

Chances are a reaction won't hit until tonight, hopefully after you are done ushering. Vibes you only have a mild reaction.

I did have Moderna vs Pfizer.

DR George, I had the two Moderna shots and the Pfizer booster. I had mno bad reaction at all.

Since the time between the Shingrix vaccinations is 2 to 6 months I suggest you not wait until your appointment but call and ask about it. Also let them know they said they would get back to you and didn't.
-
Gratuitous post No. 100!
-
Elf was an interesting musical. The first act is overwritten and too long by about 20 minutes. Could have been trimmed and maybe even a song lost. The second act was a paragon of libretto writing. The words rarely got in the way of the songs.
-
It was almost like two different shows.
-
But the cast was game. The choreographer seemed to have fun stealing from the best with obvious nods to Bob Fosse and Michael Bennett.
-
It was just 2.5 hours long, and 2 hours was more than enough with a kids show.
-
I followed with dinner at a Turkish restaurant where I had a stewed lamb shank wrapped in eggplant and bell pepper. It was delicious. I couldn't stop eating.
-
I'm now watching Elisabeth Moss as Shirley Jackson. It's a pretty unnerving portrayal, even if the movie is a little erratic.

When I think of Shirley Jackson I think of her wonderful, delightful memoir Life Among the Savages. Years later when I read The Lottery I was shocked to learn it was the same author.

I hope the movie is showing Jackson's wonderful sense of humor.

I had quite an uneventful day.

Did get in a good walk, but no nap.

Good night, friends.

This is another of "those" days, I'm afraid.
Up early, had some coffee and learned that my cousin Debra, daughter of my recently deceased aunt, had to call an ambulance for her husband Saturday evening. The hospital has admitted him. Poor Rob has many problems, not the least of which has been a bout of bladder cancer. Today, however, they are assessing his liver functions.
He has been, to my mind, an "energizer bunny". I learn of all his ailments and hospital visits and radiation, etc., but every time I see him, he is on his feet and pleasant and non-complaining.
There was absolutely nothing for me to do except pray a little and offer to help when they need me.
And, of course, I fretted over it all day.
Getting older is a very mixed blessing. And the older I get, the harder it is to see the blessings for what they are because of the people you lose.
Sigh.
Morbidity finished.
-
Have spent some time seeing Sondheim tributes and remembrances.
I started to watch "tick...tick...boom" on Netflix but just could not stick with it beyond the first number (not a word of which I understood).
Will give it another go sometime.
-
DR George, I had the two Moderna shots and the Pfizer booster. I had mno bad reaction at all.
I had both Pfizer shots in April and March. And then the Pfizer booster plus flu shot on the same day in September.
One week after, I had one heck of a bout of something or other. Felt like flu. Lasted three days.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! I am back from my college football marathon in which the Ohio team I was rooting FOR won (Cincinnati) and the one I was rooting AGAINST (Ohio State) lost to Michigan, 42-27. It was the sweetest Michigan victory over OSU since 1969, my sophomore year.
And to that I say "Hoo" and "Ray".

Speaking of funny.
I do love funny cat videos. I am especially amused by the ones with cats being spooked by cucumbers.
I wonder if Dr. Larry Moore's cats have issues with cucumbers.

Congratulations to Jane on the all clear diagnosis
-
Today I went with my friend Allison to see a film screening of the upcoming release Cyrano starring Peter Dinklage.
-
JohnG - Does Santa play another role as well in what you saw?
-
She is a member of this year’s SAG nomination committee and she had a plus 1 available for her invitation
-
More hugs and vibes for DR Ron Pulliam.
-
She knew I loved the off Broadway musical version and kindly offered her guest invitation to me
-
Today I went with my friend Allison to see a film screening of the upcoming release Cyrano starring Peter Dinklage.
That was considered pretty weak off-Broadway, and yet the movie seems to be riding on Oscar buzz for Peter Dinklage. What did you think?
-
It's been a slog trying to get this library video of Shirley to play all the way through. But I have made it past the halfway mark. It seems to be working oK now.
-
I really enjoyed it, where the play was stripped down and basically monochromatic, this is lush and lovely.
-
I'm going to give Mom's Springerle recipe a try next month. I'm not a great cookie baker, and these take time. They have to rest overnight before baking. But they are beautiful, and I hope to send her some.
-
The songs are all very much the same , although the singing was well done.
-
Peter Dinklage’s performance had me in tears several times
-
More vibes of strength to Ron P!
-
I'm shaving my Christmas card list down this year. Or at least I plan on shaving it down.
-
After the film Peter Dinklage (Cyrano) , Haley Bennett(Roxanne) and Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Christian) came out and did a Q&A with a moderator whose name I did not catch
-
It was a lovely afternoon
-
Then we went across the street and had barbecue for dinner
-
And then I took the train home
-
Sounds nice, Vixmom.
-
JohnG - Does Santa play another role as well in what you saw?
The actor who played Santa also played the mean boss.
-
I'm headed to bed.
-
But first ...
-
Six!

-
Six!
Just one more post John, and you'll hit 66666! ;D
-
Today is going to be a day. My sister wants me to come over and help put up Christmas lights on her front porch (she already put lights on her tree), then I'm ushering for a local production of a play called Until the Flood. I don't know what it's about, but I'll find out soon enough.
I'm home from ushering Until the Flood.
-
Wow is all I can say. It's a play of monologs about what fictional(?) people went through and how they felt about the Shooting of Michael Brown (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Michael_Brown) in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014.
-
It was presented as if they were being interviewed and their monologs were their answers that were being video recorded.
-
Very powerful.
-
Here's the overview from Harlequin's website (https://harlequinproductions.org/show/until-the-flood/):
Pulitzer Prize finalist, celebrated performer and playwright Dael Orlandersmith explores the social uprising in Ferguson, Missouri following the shooting of teenager Michael Brown. Pulling from her extensive interviews with Missouri residents, Orlandersmith crafts a stunning theatrical experience that must be seen.
-
Finished with my viewing. Actually dozed off for thirty minutes, surprising given eleven hours of sleep.
-
The Moderna booster - I had no reaction to the first two shots other than a sore arm. The booster made me lethargic for a day, but that was about it.
-
Thank you all for the last two days of posts.
-
It is nice not to show up on page 3 or page 4, with less than 30 minutes to the witching hour.
-
Buddy is such a funny cat. The other day, no, not the other day but last Monday because that was November 22.
-
So, I was watching a Kennedy assassination video, whe Buddy jumped upon my lap. Just then the clip of Walter Cronkite was announcing the Presidentt had died.
-
Buddy turned around in time to see Walter. He absolutely flipped out. First, he jumped straight up in the air, at least a foot. Next he started flapping and thrashing while trying to climb up over my shirt. And from there, he ran out of the room.
-

Oh, my! Hopefully, Buddy is okay!
-
I just watched the interview that Patti LuPone did with Stephen Sondheim last year, but wasn't shown until today on Sunday Morning on CBS.
-
It was touching but too short! It could've lasted a few minutes more, at least.
-

Well, then on Thanksgiving, I had the TV on for football. When I came back in from the kitchen the national anthem was being played on a trumpet. I found Buddy sitting on his butt staring up at the screen watching the guy play the trumpet.
-
He watched the whole thing, and never looked away until it was finished.
-

I would rather see the interview with Patti when ALW dies.
-
Good night, George.
