Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Sakamoto and his lovely music, and now it is time for you to post until the last cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TENACIOUS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Bruce, you interrupted my post ;D
-
Notes inhaled. Welcomed.

I have a lovely copy of the Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence soundtrack on vinyl. A Film I eventually saw on the big screen in Athens, Ga.
I also have several Lps by his band Yellow Magic Orchestra, who were always entertaining.
A big loss for music.

I can see his avatar. :-\ Is this a recent development, or have you never been able to see it?

Just the last couple of days.

Good morning, friends.

Some delightfully rambling posts overnight.

And now I am up.

Ready and rarin' to face the day.

Good morning, all!
-
Last night I called the building maintenance and begged them to turn off the heat in the building. I couldn't get to sleep and I was lying in a puddle of sweat. Several weeks sgo, when the temperatures were around zero, we had no heat at all, and now that it's in the 50s and low 60s, the heat's running at full blast.
-
The gist is, I slept rather poorly last night. The cats all stayed away, so that was a reason for concern as well.

The complete Chicago Light Opera Works production of The Golden Apple is currently on YouTube. It is so much better than the Encores! production, which had some wonderful moments, and the PS Classics recording which has cuts and strange musical direction from a fool.

I was just posting on FB about Ben Bagley, and I wrote this in three separate posts:
Ben suffered terribly, like John Mcglinn, from falling in love with unavailable men, and that unhappiness plagued him. He could be charming, hysterically funny, very perceptive about others, but he was so unhappy about his romantic life. I think Ben's earlier Revisted albums - Rodgers & Hart1, Gershwin, Coward, Berlin, and Kern - were his best cast. Later, when he produced them on his own, he had budget issues, and I heard, but cannot verify, that when he was issuing them on CD, the young singers he used to do extra material to pad the discs were paying him to be on the recordings.
I started buying them in college around 1970. By the time I moved to NYC in 1979. I had every Bagley LP at that time. When I worked at Drama Book Shop, I used to order records from him, and he or his assistant Bruce D. Bossard would deliver them. In 1981 or 82, I lost a film scoring job because I told the producer Sam Irvin that I had no sound studio experience. I decided I had better get some and the only record producer I knew was Ben, who had attended something that included arrangements of mine, probably the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, and he started using me as a copyist for Dennis Deal and Albert Evans. Dennis and Albert started throwing charts to me to orchestrate when they were on a tight deadline. Ben loved my "Joplin-esque" orchestration for "The Bull Frog Patrol" so much that he took one of the orchestra sections and added it to the beginning of the track. You can hear the song slow down just before Andy Anselmo enters with the lyrics. Thank you, dear Ben, for that encouragement!
By the time I finished writing these posts, I was in tears. He was such a good man.

Thank you for that link, DR Elmore!
And for the remembrances of Ben Bagley. They are fascinating, and moving.

I'm so glad I attended the final show of Into the Woods.
I sat in front row center, and was tempted to whip out my phone to snap a few shots. So tempted. But although someone had implied earlier in the week that non-flash snaps would be okay, I saw no one else doing it, and I was not going to be That Guy.
Mixed reactions of the music being piped in, because what you think you're all sounding like in the orchestra room is never what is actually heard out front. BUT... though as I said, their speaker system is not the greatest, you can absolutely hear the sound guy's genius in a lovely blending of all the elements, with not a speck of distortion or other "electronic" sound so often heard in professional and non-professional productions alike.
The production itself was fascinating and quite beautiful, even if I didn't love every little thing. I never felt comfortable with the witch being played as a puppet with the singer/actress standing nearby. Is this a "thing" elsewhere? First time I'd seen it. The disintegration of everything in Act 2 was very strikingly conceived, and the cast was excellent. I do wish I could have played the entire run, but I'm sure glad I was able to watch it, too.
-
Well, it's a Monday. And I must get on with some Monday stuff.
-
DR ChasSmith, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this production.

Wow! More insight into who Ben Bagley was than can be found on the whole steaming internet. His contributions to showtunes archaeology should have gotten him an honorary Tony. Thanks Elmore!
-
When I was starting to collect Bagley’s albums back in high school, I had no concept of time, I guess. I read in one set of his liner notes that his cat had died. I had just lost my first cat, too, and wrote him a short note.
He wrote back that he had had a new feline friend for a couple of years by then. But he shared the pain of losing a pet. And he included an album with it. In those days, that was worth big bucks. I treasure that gesture.

Okay, let's try this again.
In totally useless news, I recently unearthed the sketch of my uncompleted transcription of the main title music of a highly admired motion picture. I recall doing this in 1972, from the one recording that existed on LP then. I never completed it, and except for a couple of short snippets from musicals over the years, I've never done any other real transcribing. But I was stunned to see not only how absurdly neatly I wrote it then (it looks like I was using a ruler throughout!), but how accurate I believe it actually was for a 23-yr-old DR ChasSmith. Anyhoo, for your viewing pleasure, here are all three pages. Since I didn't even write a title on it, I'll leave it that way, and some bright musically inclined person here can say what it is. :)

So.....I got a text letting me know that my prescriptions were ready to be picked up at CVS. It said SECOND TEXT. I don't remember getting the first one - but maybe.
I drove to the other end of town.....one car was ahead of me in the drive thru. The lady got her stuff and drove away and I drove up.
And the person PULLED THE SHADE DOWN ON ME. "Gone to lunch - back at 2 p.m."
And of course NO pharmacy services would be available until then.
So - I will go tomorrow and get them....and then switch to Walgreen's.

I like that musical. I even like the film with Glynis Johns (am I remembering that correctly?) as Mrs Squeezum.
-
The gourmet recipe on the box for Dolly Parton’s brownies doesn’t make sense. It tells you to bake the brownies until a toothpick inserted comes clean. The you top it with something they call a filling and then bake for another half hour. I will just make the basic brownie recipe on the side of the box and frost the brownies with Dolly’s chocolate buttercream frosting. Then sprinkle pecans over the top.

I admire and envy people who can transcribe recordings.

That's pretty cool.

At 4:15 my rather good day did a 180 degree turn to hell. When I went into the bathroom to give the cats clean water, I noticed the toilet had only partially flushed earlier, so I flushed it. One minute later i was standing in a puddle as the toilet overflowed. It was completely gross mess running all over the bathroom floor. I started throwing towels onto the mess and then rolled them up in the bathroom rug. I poured a cup of Liquid Tide onto the rug and decided to launder them. The only problem was when i got onto the floor to pick the items up, they were too heavy to lift, I couldn't stand, and I couldn't get the wet rug and towels into the utility bag on my walker. Then I knocked the walker over and the garbage waiting to go to the basement spilled all over the kitchen floor.
-
At that point I completely wigged out, sitting between the kitchen and bathroom door and screaming fuckfuckfuck over and over at the top of my lungs. I lost it. My neighbor below me came running up to check on me, and after telling her, "I can't do this alone," I started weeping like a wild thing, wailing and crying, I don't want to go into assisted living." When I finally calmed down, she helped me load up my walker. We went to the basement, sorted the garbage, and put the rug and towels into the washer. I just brought the dried things up.
-
Tomorrow I have a lot of bathroom cleanup. I hate my life.

Back from cashing check, a great lunch with Home Theater Forum regular and Kritzerland supporter Allen Hollis at the Smokehouse - I had my cup of soup, shrimp cocktail, and wedge, he had their amazing fish and chips. We have lots of fun chatting it up.

They are different. I have only had a couple so far as I am surrounded by food I shouldn't be eating. Unfortunately I am eating too much sugar.
-
Monday evening greetings! Today was the last regular meeting of a ladies’ group for which I’ve been program chair this year. All I have to do now is coordinate next month’s catered luncheon and then I can turn this responsibility over to Rhonda. It’s been very satisfying, but I am ready to be DONE!
I can just imagine.
-
DR elmore3003 - I'm sorry about the end of your day. Can the toilet be fixed quickly, at least?
I forgot that part! I had a plunger, and I think I've unclogged it. I also called the building's maintenance team and told them I needed a plumber.
-
The weirdest part of my breakdown was Annabelle's reaction. She kept yelling at me and got very upset over my behavior. When I came up with the laundry, I set everything aside (Nothing cleans is going into that bathroom until I clean it out tomorrow), got undressed, and crawled into bed, she climbed onto my chest and made biscuits, kneading my skin, expressing her affection for me.
-
DR Elmore, I’m sorry to hear about this afternoon’s troubles. Wish I could give you - and your neighbor - a hug.
-
Cats know.
-
Back to Women Talking. Schmacting all over the place.
-
Well, this cheered me up!
-
Finally had a chance to listen to Randy R's new video. What great fun.
-
The car is telling me that my key fob battery is low.
-
I don't know if I can start the car once the battery runs out - there doesn't seem to be a place to insert an actual key in the ignition.
-
In any case, I ordered a spare set of 4 of the proper batteries for just a few bucks, which arrived today.
-
So tomorrow, I'll watch the little YouTube video about how to replace the fob battery, and then all should be good to go.
-
Just in time for the next snow storm.
-
DR ChasSmith, my early retirement severance pay is already included in the $5.64.
-
So, you could say I'm already on Easy Street.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Can we achieve page nine before I fall asleep?
-
It's a dicey proposition.
-
On is a dicey preposition.
-
Dicey or spicy.
-
One or the other.
-
I'm flailin' here.
-
And failin'.
-
Failin' to stay awake.
-
Or sensical.
-
But on we must press.
-
Not impress, though.
-
NINE.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Hugs for DR Elmore. I’m glad the day ended in loving biscuits being made.
-
Got a phone call that interrupted Women Talking. But it's almost over. Thankfully.
-
Chita Rivera's memoir appears to be out. It's call Chita: A Memoir, by Chita Rivera.
-
Gratuitous post 245!
-
Good night, all.
-
DR singdaw that is a lovely growing up home. Which window was your bedroom?
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE such is the day......it happens to us all.
-
MR BK must be busy.
-
UCONN has prevailed in the NCAA tournament....but that was to be expected.
-
Tomorrow is supposed to be a good day weather wise here....but Wednesday is an entirely different kettle of fish.
-
So tomorrow has become a shopping/banking day for me.
-
I have fifteen emails.....I suppose I should read them....my guess is that at least 13 of them are SPAM.
-
I am excited that the NEW BOOK will soon be up for purchase. And I am curious as to the new bonus that will be included.
-
Well, this cheered me up!

If something like that happens to my key fob, the instructions say to hold the fob right next to the push-button starter, and the car will be able to "sense" (I guess) the fob and allow the car to start.
-
I found a video on YouTube about Subarus (my car) that explained it. I would assume that something like that is available for your car, too.
-
In any case, I ordered a spare set of 4 of the proper batteries for just a few bucks, which arrived today.

That works, too. :)

The movie or the phone call?
;)

Ditto and Ditto!
-
Well, look what arrived today from eBay:
-
And here's the back side with the track list:
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
With my viewing I'm finished.
-
Guess I should write some notes.
-
I'm afraid I was a bad boy on the telephone earlier - I can be asked to be patient for just so long and then I go berserk when there's no end to the asking. I do not have and have never had the patience of a saint. In fact, I'm one of the most IMpatient people ever, so when I've made the repeated effort to BE patient and then I'm asked to KEEP being patient over and over again, I just cannot hold back my frustration, I'm afraid.
-
Other than that, I enjoyed the play very much, Mrs. Lincoln.
-
How on earth can we still be on page nine?
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
Less than fifty posts to a big ol' major league posting total.
-
Ah, page ten.
-
Ah, but underneath.
-
Ah, Wilderness.
-
Ah Fong's.
-
Ah, the apple trees.
-
And don't forget that ah spelled backwards is ha.
-
Tomorrow, we have the first table read-through for Sunday in the Park with George!
-
And I just realized that we'll also have rehearsals on Friday.
-
:-\
-
I play Phase 10 on Fridays.
-
I all previous shows that I've been in, it was only during the actual performance weekends were Fridays needed.
-
And for this show, there are two FULL months of rehearsals.
-
...including Saturdays!
-
I didn't know what I was getting my self into.
-
But, I wanted to be in the show, so I'll be at the rehearsals, unless I'm not scheduled.
-
Hopefully, there'll be some where I won't be needed. ::)
-
Just to have some nights off.
-
That's a lotta rehearsals.
-
Too many rehearsals.
-
I hate long rehearsal periods.
-
I hate long rehearsal commas.
-
I hate long rehearsal semi-colons.
-
I hate long rehearsal colons.
-
I hate colons in general.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Is gaslighting going on?
-
See?
